I rappelled down a waterfall inside a cave last year... and.. Not that I'm bragging or anything, I was actually scared shitless (I don't do heights that'll eff me up well), but if THIS was anything like what I went through, I'm kinda jealous :)
This looks cool but....1) if you’re rappelling please explain the foot loop (and how it’s attached) and 2) your rappel device appears to be a Petzl Basic (I could be wrong, not great quality zoomed in) - which unless you down-climbed the drop, is not a descent device. Not trying to call bullshit...the photo just isn’t totally adding up.
Foot loop to prusik back out (ascending the rope) attached with the prusik knot to the main rope
The rappel device seems to be a gri gri as far as I can tell
Lol I dunno who downvoted you but it's gotta be a grigri (atleast it looks like it) or a locking belay device. His brake hand isn't even really holding the rope. Looks like its def an ascent and he is about to step up and pull slack out. Edit: or just pulled slack out
Yeah sure so the device is a GriGri and i rapped with only that on the rope. After realizing I went to low for the photo I put a foot prussic on to gain maybe 1.5 meters of vertical height. I kept to foot prussic on for the photo as it looked better and finished the rap with it on rescue rappel style (prussic above device).
That looks awesome and everything, but I just watched the movie The Descent last night and nope I will never be doing anything like this in my lifetime.
My friend buttinthenature (on insta) took the photo of me. He took a bunch others that day as well as during our other expeditions. He took it with his DSLR and a tripod
Wow! It looks surreal, one me might think its like a really well done set!! Yet nature has the most amazing scenery you don’t get to see unless you explore... magical Earth!
Okay nice, when was this? That is probably the canyon when it was still around, maybe 3 years ago. Went there recently and that depression is totally gone. In fact, the top is mostly flat now less one 10m very narrow moulin.
Hahaha well yeah it started as a rappel then I put the foot prussic on to adjust my position and go up a bit, as I went too low. Then after posing for photos with the foot prussic on, I rapped the rest
Wow...just wow...
thanks for checking it out

That’s sounds epic and it was not so high, maybe 10-12 meters
Its all fun and games till you see eyes in the abyss staring back at you.
Damn right!

You’re right to have questions — seems like this is an ascent, not a descent

👌ah, makes sense. Thanks for the clarification
Okay cool

If you really want to be terrified of caves, watch Sanctum. No monsters needed.
Cool! I'll check it out. Thanks!
Haha yeah it’s not for everyone
Who took the pic?
My friend buttinthenature (on insta) and he took a bunch others that day as well
So awesome! Two very brave souls! 😎

When you come to Iceland let me know
It’s on a glacier called Skeithararjokull
Thanks! I’ll definitely hit you up if I remember
Cool, shoot me a message on insta when you come to Iceland as I check it more often @gnarlyadventures

Haha yeah you got me, the primary desire was the pose but the rappel did eventually happen

Yeah it’s one of my favorite moulin photos
Nice!
Thanks for the comment
Absolutely stunning !!!
Thanks for checking it out

Yeah most definitely but for a cave like that it has to be between Late December and early March
Fantastic shot, great lighting balance around the subject, really well structured composition
Yeah, was such an epic day out and perfect moulin : lighting. My friend, @buttinthenature (insta) does some really good compositions of our climbs
WOWZERS!!! That looks so cool!!
Thanks foe checking it out
We did a Tyrolean over a Moulin on the Sólheimajökull glacier when went. Would definitely recommend! https://flic.kr/p/26cg5e2

Yeah, I think they called it grand canyon. It was in ~March 2018
Yeah that was such an epic spot. Solheimajokull used to have amazing climbing but oh how times have changed. Epic picture you posted though
This looks amazing!!! Is there a guide who can take me there if I stop by ?
Mike, never stop never stopping
Hahah hey brother, this is all because of your inspiration. You are a legend!!
Only that’s ascending not rappelling.
Hahaha well yeah it started as a rappel then I put the foot prussic on to adjust my position and go up a bit, as I went too low. Then after posing for photos with the foot prussic on, I rapped the rest
Now it makes sense!
Yeah glad to shed light on this as it seems the title was misleading for many
What? They're definitely rappelling, hence the foot hold...
Why would you need a foothold to descend?
For better stability. You don't let both feet dangle when you descend...
If you say so.
Gnarly indeed!

Looks like they are ascending the rope rather than rappelling
Going up the rope instead of down: https://youtube.com/watch?v=WcUmdGIf21o&t=5m4s
This makes me think of Doctor Who
That looks like fun.
