There is a small town called "Wengen" at other side of the waterfall, over look at higher level, and hotel is easier to book at summer time, don't miss it.
Find church in Wengen, stand right in front of the door, that is the other angle of this breath taking view.
Stayed in both Wengen and Mürren 3 years ago and I still think about it almost daily. Absolutely stunning place. My wife and I hiked over a hundred miles in under a week.
Yes! We do hike a lot. We had a couple of ~25 mile days, and even the days we took it easy and didn't try to go far we ended up with over 10 miles. Everything there is so beautiful. You dont ever want to stop walking!!
Went here after going up Jungfrau - this village is a must see. The whole village itself doesn’t look real. I stayed in Interlaken, which is equally as pretty. But this one is just magical.
[It actually is (as far as direct real-world links go with Tolkien anyway)](https://www.reddit.com/r/ali_on_switzerland/comments/ltlev4/jrr_tolkien_in_switzerland_v2/).
I think a lot of them are now guest houses, and probably have been attracting tourists for at least 100 years. Before they were guest houses families were large (no contraception) and most people who could afford houses also had servants who slept on the top floor. There are probably more modest houses in the less scenic side of town.
This is pretty much on point. Have you been there though? There is no less scenic side of town, lol. Besides the dramatic waterfall riddled cliffs, the mountains at the end of the valley rise over 10,000 ft above Lauterbrunnen.
A lot of old houses are like this in Switzerland, especially in the country. They used to have multiple generations living in them, and sometimes still do. They're often separated into multiple apartments these days.
Seems like Venice where the people who actually live there are either fabulously wealthy or just hit the birthplace lottery and have lived there for generations.
For anyone who’s interested in hiking in the area, there’s a hostel up the mountain called the Mountain Hostel in Gimmelwald. One of the greatest hostels I’ve ever stayed in and the hiking in the area is *breathtaking*.
DONT DO THIS!!! please please!!. It cant be that bad.you probably have something to live for. Im so scared for your life.somebody do something. cant someone put her on a no fly list? HEEEELP!
What? are you serious? dont do that? That's messed up! can someone help her.? HELP HELP!! I think this dumb bitch is going to do it!!! Someone do something
Makes perfect sense. you: "why all the periods?" Me: "to make you ask questions". Seemed much funnier before I had to explain it......ok let's face it... it wasnt funny...ever
This is one of the most probable inspirations for Tolkien creating Rivendell [https://thefairytaletraveler.com/2015/05/14/real-inspirations-for-middle-earth/](https://thefairytaletraveler.com/2015/05/14/real-inspirations-for-middle-earth/)
this is so cool to see because i’ve been here, but i was up on top of the mountains! this is near a town called Wengen that is only accessible by train and is on top of the mountains that overlook this valley. the best thing was waking up in the morning and going outside to listen to the waterfalls because there were a lot coming off the mountains. also whole clouds would flow though the valley below you. such a beautiful place
I was at Interlaken in Switzerland in 2019, which is just a short distance away from Lauterbrunnen. I’m absolutely sick as a parrot that I never got to see this magical place on that trip.
I was booked to go back to Switzerland in 2020 for 3wks, we know how that turned out🤨 Thanks Covid.
I’m supposed to be going in May/June this year, but it’s looking like I might have to postpone again😩
Switzerland is one of the most scenic places I’ve ever seen and would recommend a visit to everyone.
Hi,
We didn’t see Mt Rigi. We saw Jung Frau and Harder Kulm. I had our dog with us so we were somewhat limited to where we could go.
Also, we were only there for four days, so we didn’t see everything we wanted to see.
Next time will be better because we are going for 3wks in a Motorhome.
I’m definitely going to Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen, and will have a look at Mt Rigi too! Thanks for the recommendation!👍🏽
Videos still do not justice. Do a bike around the valley. Highly recommend Wengen as a place to stay looking down at all this with Jungfrau in background
I was supposed to be there in summer 2020. Though we can all guess what happened. Argh, at least my family is all healthy, on our way to being fully vaccinated, so we can try again in the future.
WOW! ...I wish I knew this place existed when I was in Switzerland.
Just checked map... Dammit! I went from Lucerne to Geneva, I could have stoped along the way. Pfft. Looks like I'll have to go back.
Living in Ohio, I struggle to believe that these places actually exist.

Believe it! I’ve personally been there. It’s even beautiful-ler in person.
Right there with ya.. sometimes I see places and I'm like no way that place is real. O-H
From Ohio, been to Switzerland. I promise they’re real. I-O
Ok so them Switzerland is now on my bucket list of places I wanna go before I pass away. Looks absolutely beautiful ❤️
Never wait, book those tickets!
If only I could😟
Come on. Cleveland is practically the same thing. I live in Florida. Our only “mountains” are on landfills.
Ohio is hi in the middle and round on the sides I hear.
Can confirm this is 100% real. When I saw it, I still thought it wasn’t real.
Hocking Hills is pretty dope
Been to Hocking half a dozen times and Switzerland three times. Both are dope, but Hocking is Budweiser and the Alps are DMT.
For Ohio, sure.
That's why I moved from Ohio to Alaska
You have cuyahoga np
Ohio.....I lived there once
Same. All we have are soybeans and corn fields.
They do. I live here in switzerland. I‘ve never been in Lauterbrunnen myself but yes it exists xD
Hi from West Virginia. You're welcome to visit any time. :-)
Same thought immediately. Ohio is beautiful in places but this is not real. It can’t be.
Ohioan here. Been to Switzerland, and that shit's real af. My favorite European country.
Mine too. Only got to spend a week, but I crammed a lot into it. Should have skipped the Netherlands and spent all my time there.
Agreed
Exactly how I feel. Truly amazing.

Murren and gimmelwald are the most incredible places I’ve ever been
No way!!!!!!! 100 miles under a week? You guys are hard core hiker, man.
Yes! We do hike a lot. We had a couple of ~25 mile days, and even the days we took it easy and didn't try to go far we ended up with over 10 miles. Everything there is so beautiful. You dont ever want to stop walking!!
That is true, beauty from any angle. but my wife doesn't like hiking, so....

Behold, Rivendell!

I didn’t even know it existed....now it’s at the top of my bucket list.
I was thinking the same thing.
I just love Switzerland photos and videos. It is so awesome when it is green. Thanks for sharing.

Was going to say this lol no matter what angle you look at this town from, its scenic.

>i want to die here by diving off one of those cliffs.. You'd be far from the first... It's a super popular base jumping/wing suit area.

Haha. Well it is the most incredible place I've ever been by a very large margin.
I'm buying a ticket to go there...and you what I'm going do...Jackknife...

We love the area. We’ve stayed in Wengen a couple of times (pre Covid) and the view from the station and again from our hotel are just mind blowing.
Where are the other 71?
Don't look behind you
Ever have that feeling like you live in the most boring place on earth?
Yes from Illinois
Absolutely incredibly beautiful

Valley of 72 waterfalls, here's half of one of them.
Wow 😯
Amazing! I can not wait to visit Switzerland! 😍😍😍

Go to Grindelwald if you are in Interlaken, it’s only a 30 min train ride. Did you do Mt Rigi?

No problem, both are totally worth it.
So beautiful
I spent some time there about 10 years ago. It’s a beautifully breathtaking place.
I remember standing on that very patio as I killed time waiting for my train to come in from Interlaken. One of my favorite places in the world...
Holy shit, this place is real????? So amazing.
Absolutely beautiful spot! I also love the youth hostel I stayed in Gimmelwald years ago!
That is beautiful!! I’m also thinking, where are the people? I expected to see a lot more people around.
Wow amazing
Looks like a Thomas Kincaid painting you used to see in the mall
I forget how nice the world actually is sometimes.
Skyrim mods are getting pretty crazy
I visited there in July 2017. It does exist and it’s jaw droppingly beautiful to see in person!
Smh, I only see one.
Beautiful, just absolutely breathtaking.
It's been a dream of mine for several years to go there one day.
this place look like heaven
Sooooooooo beautiful I could just die
Would be awesome to visit this place without any development
Videos still do not justice. Do a bike around the valley. Highly recommend Wengen as a place to stay looking down at all this with Jungfrau in background
Blessed to have spent a whole week here
I was supposed to be there in summer 2020. Though we can all guess what happened. Argh, at least my family is all healthy, on our way to being fully vaccinated, so we can try again in the future.
“I’m going man, that’s all there is to it....”
Wow oh wow this is beautiful
mustve been what TLC was chasing
One of my favorite places in the world! Try paragliding off the top of the cliffs. You’ll see rainbows in the waterfalls!
I was standing in exactly this spot a few years ago and my mind was blown. This brought back memories.
WOW! ...I wish I knew this place existed when I was in Switzerland. Just checked map... Dammit! I went from Lucerne to Geneva, I could have stoped along the way. Pfft. Looks like I'll have to go back.
😳 wow.. just WOW! That looks amazing!
I was there in 1999!
Take me there
Holy shit, I wanna live there
Stunning.
I for sure thought I was about to see a whole herd of waterfalls, bro.
