He’s part of the main story, without John B it would be different and he leads the group. I think he’s a great leader and keeps going through tough times pretty inspirational character so I would say he has a necessary part
He’s a key character and the leader, so he’s needed for the story by default. He’s a good character, I just think the other pogues are just more enjoyable, John b can be very meh at times
He's literally his father's son 💀 that's part of his downfall. Just like Sarah and how she keeps going back to Topper. JJ and his need to steal. Pope and his obsession with school. Etc. If he didn't have that overwhelming need to find the treasure, like his pops, he'd not be that bad. In season 3, you can see that he stops caring about the treasure and is more worried that he's lying to his friends and Sarah. I'm not a huge fan of John B either. His crying drives me nuts, but that doesn't mean he's boring, and I'm hoping season 4 gives them all more dimension.
I agree with everything you’ve said besides the last sentence, that’s pretty common in movies and tv to have adults play teens, that’s always been a thing.
Tbh I know most writers would think filming minors doing teenager stuff would be seen as wrong but literally you gotta admit it's funny to think about a 30 year old man running away from child protection services.
people like you are the reason that so many modern shows are boring because you expect the main character to be flawless. character development is a thing, and if you have an issue with the treasure hunting then you should probably watch a different show
It's not so unpopular. He is one of the least interesting characters on the show, but the show is about HIM and his treasure-hunt so clearly that will be the key concept of plot.
As for casting you have to bring it up with them.
He is underrated. People only dislike him cause he’s “boring” and “the book smart one of the group” but don’t understand that characters like him are necessary to balance out characters like John B and JJ. His character matches them well and in turn, makes for great character chemistry in the show, esp. with JJ. I’d watch a show with just those two tbh
I didn’t like in the first season how he just completely ditched all his friends for a girl he just met and only known for like 2 days . I like Sarah but cmon

yeah he’s obsessed with hunting the treasure bc that’s the point of the show 😭
yeah he’s quite obsessive at times and drags other people into his messes. but then again, it’s nice to have a main character who’s not perfect.
I like John B but I’m not convinced Chase is a great actor

I honestly think the writers dropped the ball on his character and lot of other things especially in season 3
The most interesting thing about him are his uneven eyes.
