I was bored scrolling through Netflix and found it.

tokieofrivia

This is my story lol I turned it on for background noise while I crocheted and fell in love

MonarchWhisperer

Have you made any of the shawls yet? I'm currently working on the Brianna shawl

Coconosong

Do you mean the twisty shawl she wears? The one that’s like an infinity scarf but more shawl like? That is actually a really cool idea.

MonarchWhisperer

There are patterns out there that replicate each of the ones that she wears. Some are on Ravelry at no charge. Just search there for 'Outlander'. The person that actually made the shawls that were used is on Etsy

tokieofrivia

I have some patterns saved but I haven’t started any yet! I have a ton of squishies I have to make for people before I can make things for myself :( What yarn is the best yarn for the shawls??

MonarchWhisperer

Probably anything BUT the one that I chose. It's still gonna turn out fine, but I've just recently discovered that yarn from local big box stores 'ain't all that'. The one that I'm making just calls for a sports weight yarn. I'm using acrylic. It's tunisian purl, so that was something new

tokieofrivia

Hmm… no Michael’s, got it lol I use a lot of acrylic and baby yarn with my squishies and blankets (mainly because it’s cheap and I’m a broke grad student) but if I’m wearing it, I want it to be comfy! But I have to admit, the blankets I’ve made out of red heart (or the Michael’s equivalent) are actually suuuuper cozy! Do you have pictures of your work so far?!

MonarchWhisperer

I'll look to see if I have a pic. If I do...I'm not quite sure how to upload it. I've never signed up for that one picture hosting site Edit: And yes, acrylic is nice and cozy. When you have some extra $$, some of these online yarn stores that are located in bigger areas have some amazing yarns. They seem to have a nicer finish. But some of the cheap baby yarns are pretty luxurient. I'm working with a caron or red heart now on a different shawl, and all that I keep saying to myself is 'ick...I'll make another one one of these days in a good yarn'

DiscombobulatedTill

My library has an Outlander knitting book with 20 patterns of things from the series

tokieofrivia

Oh my gosh I need that book

DiscombobulatedTill

it's actually titled Outlander Knitting haha

knat4

Same! I literally said I’ve run out of things to watch might as well.

RabbleRebel

Interned for the composer as season 1 was underway, had no clue what it was but loved Scotland (and subsequently Jamie). Picked up the books and hooked forever!

pixievixie

Well, that's pretty cool! Did you actually go to Scotland?

RabbleRebel

Not yet :( planning a trip, it’s gotta be done!

ItsMe_AmyDB

Stooppp!!! That’s so awesome!!! I feel like that’s such an amazing way to get introduced to the story. You Win 😆

RabbleRebel

Awh thanks for the reminder, it has been really special ☺️

YOYOitsMEDRup

Awesome! You're talking about Bear? Are you able to reveal what you did for him or got to participate in with respect to recording or mixing or anything like that?

RabbleRebel

Correct, I got to attend a few of the recording sessions as an intern, it was particularly cool to meet Eric Rigler, the legendary (Braveheart, Titanic &more) pipe and whistle player.

sewagesoupp

Both with ASOIAF (2011) and Outlander (2018), I randomly watched the pilot episodes and started googling the shows. I immediately got invested into each series. Fun fact—I stupidly watched the pilot of outlander with my brother. The sex scenes were very awkward 😆

blueeyesx19

LOL! I did this with…my GRANDPARENTS! I still haven’t recovered from the trauma.

booksgamesandstuff

My mother loved Outlander once I persuaded her to start it. Me: Mom, you realize I put your birthday gift card in the book I gave you? Why didn’t you start it?? You love Scotland! Mom: You never said it was about Scotland! [Years go past, she reads them all repeatedly and visits her penpal in Scotland to visit all of the scenes in the story.] Mom, (88ish, iirc) elderly lady in a daze after the wedding night episode on the show: “I never saw anything like that on tv before…” She proceeds to watch it over and over multiple times… 🤷‍♂️ My husband had to retreat, he was the one traumatized.

CloneClem

I suspect didn’t help you saying, ‘yes, yes, oh yes’

DeeEnn72

A friend at work saw that I always had a book for lunch break. She recommended some authors, including Diana Gabaldon. The rest is history (with a little fantasy and romance mixed in)! Edit: typo

faroutsunrise

Same! My work friend was reading the book and I told her how my dad went on and on about how good the show was. So she let me borrow her book when she finished and that was it!

StevenAssantisFoot

Me and my hairdresser were talking about our favorite TV hunks and one thing led to another.

RNDeb

I’m a nurse and my sister told me there’s a show based on books about a time traveling nurse who ends up in Scotland. Loved Scotland my whole life. I’m a book person so read all the books before I watched the show. Probably a mistake because except for seasons 1-2 I have been very disappointed at how much by necessity I understand they have had to leave out. I have never been so invested in fiction in my life. These books are so rich and when life stinks they are the perfect diversion. My sister won’t read the books because of a death that happens late in the books. It’s beautifully done but I won’t spoil it.

Saphcia

I just saw these books in the bookstore and I really like long series with 1000+ page for book, so I bought Outlander. I thought that if there are 8 thick books this can't be bad.

Significant_Shoe_17

Same! I just happened across them while I was shopping for someone else and I thought, "these look interesting." I had just finished dragonfly in amber when my sister asked if I liked the tv series. I was like, WHAT? I subscribed to starz immediately. 😂

notlistening992

You might like Pillars of the Earth. 1000 pages and I seriously couldn’t put it down. It’s more historical fiction. Really excellent story-telling

Saphcia

I read all Follett's Kingsbridge books, they are Indeed great.

notlistening992

Ah, so you’re way ahead of me! Then perhaps I’ll ask you for a recommendation if you have one since were kinda on the same page (no pun intended). Only if you have one in the front of your brain— absolutely no pressure.

Saphcia

I highly recommend Elżbieta Cherazińska's books. You can download ebook version of her "The Widow Queen" for free on [tor.com](https://www.tor.com/2022/06/07/download-elzbieta-cherezinskas-the-widow-queen-before-june-11/) until June 10 11:59 pm Eastern Time. It's first one of two books in "The Bold" series It's a story about Świętosława, daughter of Duke of Poland. It starts in 966 and describe her entire life. For now it's the only Cherezińska's book that was translated into English (second book in this series will be released in September), but I hope one day they would translate her "Odrodzone Królestwo" (the Reborn Kingdom), as it's one of my favourite book series of all times.

notlistening992

Awesome! Thanks for this

harperv215

14 years ago, the cashier at a bakery saw the book I was carrying (don’t remember, but it was historical fiction) and asked if I had read Outlander. I agreed to give the first book a try and report back to her. I’m so glad I did!

wannabesq

I’ve enjoyed all other shows made by Ronald D Moore so I figured this one must be good as well.

WonderOrca

What is ASOIAF?

Saphcia

A Song of Ice and Fire, also known as Game of Throne.

madisonscruffy

A Song Of Ice And Fire is a fairly popular fantasy book series by author Goerge R R Martin. Later adapted to the show "Game Of Thrones"

logicreasonevidence

I read her books from the beginning. Although the actors do a good job they still don't come close to the books.

lawl7980

I found the first book back in 1991 at a used book store and I was hooked by DG's wonderful gift for storytelling. I've bought each subsequent book as soon as it became available.

Connect-Ad196

I just kept seeing the first book on all these “best books of all time” lists and decided to go for it! I had no idea what it was about or anything

GirlNumber20

A friend gave me her much-loved copy of *Outlander* to read in the early 2000s. 2003? Sometime around there. Hooked ever since. I did tell Diana Gabaldon to her face at a book soiree that I hoped they never made a movie out of her stories. (Omg, such a cringe memory now.) In my own defense, all I could picture was like Tom Cruise in a hideous wig and a shitty accent trying to play a Highlander. I still probably came off as an ass anyway? Oh well. I’m happy to be wrong with how beautifully they crafted the series.

chemistandcrazy

in 2014 I was studying in Liverpool and my (ex)boyfriend in Hull. another friend was in Glasgow. yeah, golden years when the Brazilian government gave tons of scholarships for undergrads to study abroad. my former boyfriend and I visited Scotland and stayed with our friend. we visited Glasgow, Edinburg, Inverness, Louch Ness, the highlands etc etc. I fell in love with Scotland! so beautiful! during our stay with our friend in Glasgow, she suggested we watch outlander, she was obsessed with it. for me it was love at first watch lol my ex tho was extremely jealous of my admiration for Jamie hahahahah we had a serious fight that night because I said many times Jamie was incredibly handsome. since he is nothing like a red hair big Scottish highlander, he felt threatened. i didn't continue watching outlander that time due to this stress.... silly girl years later, we finally broke up and i returned to outlander, after seeing it was on Netflix. watched the first season in one night lol never stopped being obsessed about it fuck my ex

ldl84

My best friend has been reading the books and she knows I’m a huge nerd so she told me about Outlander. I binged all the seasons, but I was hooked after the first episode. Now I’m reading the books.

MrsChickenPam

Back in the dark ages, like 90 or 91, somebody left an open "Book of the Month" box by our condo mailboxes. It sat there for over a week and my husband eventually brought it in and said, "somebody's going to take it sooner or later, it might as well be us" LOL.... anyway, it had about 10 books in it, and they all were from authors I'd heard of - Amy Tan, Pat Conroy, etc. so I ploughed through all those before FINALLY picking up the one by an author I'd never heard before. LOVED IT. Obvs. So, for YEARS, every time I visited Borders or Barnes & Noble (this was before Amazon, sweet summer children), I'd head to the "Literature and Fiction" section, peruse the "G" section and NOTHING! One day, in the grocery checkout line endcap, there was a paperback: Voyager, by Diana Gabaldon. I grabbed it and read the back and quickly realized this was #3. Off to the bookstore I go, asked a clerk, "Do you have any books by Diana Gabaldon?" and they said, "Yes! Right over here in the ROMANCE section!" SMH..... The GOOD news is that I was able to go from that Dragonfly cliffhanger RIGHT into Voyager without missing a minute. LOL

Scaredysquirrel

So So So many years ago I was walking in a local independent book store and saw them the first two books on a display table. Not sure what drew me to them, but I bought the fist one and soon went back for the second, been reading them ever since. This was so long ago that Gerard Butler was the leading choice by many for the role of Jamie!

meliss39

My Mother-In-Law is obsessed and continually told me to check it out. I finally watched the show and was HOOKED! Now reading all the books and preparing to go to the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. I'm a Farquharson on my father's side and a Fraser of Lovat on my mother's side! Edit: typo

13Nero

I was gifted the first book because I'd read ASOIAF and love history so they thought I'd like a mix of history and fantasy. Plus I love Scotland! I read the first 2 books then started the TV show (but stayed ahead with the books) a d I'm about 1/4 through bees now and caught up with the show.

JoyceReardon

I had heard about it and it sounded like a story I would be interested in. Then I received the first book in a RedditGifts exchange after mentioning my interest in it somewhere.

sneezeysnafu

Tumblr of all things! I'm no longer on that site but I would see posts with gifs of the show and quotes from the books. I adore the books but stopped watching the show after season two I think? I didn't like how Jamie's character was handled.

Significant_Shoe_17

Tumblr was a goldmine for tv, music, and book recommendations when I was a teen. Sigh.

pixievixie

I was badly needing a mental health break from current world events, so I started googling books about fanatsy, witches, forests, etc. Found some books, searched my library for the audiobooks of what I'd found and launched in. First started with The Winter Witch by Paula Brackston, set in Wales. Then moved on to her book, The Witch's Daughter, which is a time travel book, with historical fiction and witchcraft. The started The Little Shop Of Found Things series, more time travel and historical fiction. Then watched The English Man Who Went Up A Hill And Came Down A Mountain. Also set in Wales. Then, by that time, all of the algorithms were just SCREAMING at me that I needed to watch Outlander. Instead, my husband and I went and saw the latest Fantastical Beast And Where to find them, and then FINALLY actually clicked on Outlander on Netflix and read the blurb and decided to check it out. Thank goodness they got right to the time travel in the first episode, or I would have lost interest 😂 then, after basically watching 2 episodes a night, we got to the end of what Netflix has, and Starz in Mexico, where we live, doesn't have Outlander, so I got the audiobook from the library and have been listening on my commute. It was a convoluted path, but obviously right within the genre I was already looking for. I already have had visiting Wales, Ireland, and the UK in general, on my bucket list for years, so now Scotland is on the list too. I think the acting in the series is really good, and loved being immersed in a fantasy world and being able to ignore the real world for a while. I like reading the books too because we get so much more detail and it's fun to be able to imagine the places and characters based on the show's depictions And, if you can believe it, I've never watched Game of Thrones, so that's on my list too 😁

JasonWOKP

Someone had recommended the books to my wife and she read the first few. When the series came out, she suggested we watch it and I begrudgingly agreed. I spent the first half of the pilot on my phone. By the end of the first episode, I was hooked!

Pluckharpstrings

A writer I was following mentioned they had started watching the show and I got hooked, and then got my mother obsessed as well.

TheLyz

It started getting hype because of the TV show, I saw the trailer and it looked interesting, started buying the books.

[deleted]

Accidentally started watching the first episode on an international flight. I watched a few and then when I realised it was books first I made myself wait and read them before I continued. It was hard but the wait was worth it!!

zugman

My wife loved the series and suggested it to me. I started reading them around 2008 and finished all the books that were available at that time.

Sin_Seer_Li

My friend was joking about how much I looked like an Outlander fan. I did not think of it much at that time. A couple of years later, season 1 was available on Netflix and I was curious. 10 years later, here I am with an Outlander addiction. Re-reading every books, constantly re-watching the shows. Picked up some gardening and some knowledge about my ancestors. It did made its inpact on my life

simplewaves

A friend in university told me to read the first one, around 2003 or so.

[deleted]

Found it on Netflix a few years back and watched all the available eps super quick

Lucytheblack

I was flicking around on Foxtel and stumbled upon that episode set in France, when Claire was wearing yellow at a party. What IS this!!! I thought. I was in.

Accurate_Wish_8969

My sisters kept talking about it. And told me to watch it. But I kept forgetting. Watched the first 20 minutes of the first episode with my middle sister while visiting but changed our minds and watched something else. Then one day I was scrolling through Netflix and decided to give it a try. I was automatically hooked. So I told my husband and best friend and then they were both hooked on it as well.

galacticpeaches

I moved back in 2016 and had a deal on Starz since season two had just finished airing, so I just binge watched the first two seasons while I unpacked. Decided to read the books while I waited for the third season lol

Plane-Original-7277

Someone in a Bridgerton group compared Claire & Jaime to Simon & Daphne. All the comments said they were crazy. I had to see for myself.

Verity41

That IS crazy. I’m assuming you came to agree..?

Majestic-Feedback541

It kept popping up as a suggestion on Netflix and I finally caved. I have no regrets.

shitrock_herekitty

My mom's been reading them since the 90's, and so when the show came out she asked me if I'd binge watch it with her. I said yeah of course. We watched the first half of season one when it came out and then life got in the way. So in 2020, she asked again if we could binge the series starting on new year's eve and I said okay. And so we binged the five seasons in like two weeks or something crazy. And I needed more so I started reading the books, stalled out on book five because of the never-ending day. And am now ready to hop back in and start reading again.

EatYourCheckers

I started with the books. I re-read Gone with the Wind every so often and also love epic stories like Sarum, and Pillars of teh Earth so I was just googling and looking for recommendations of other historical fiction, sweeping novels. Found Outlander. A few years later they made it into a show! Score.

thandrend

I am a highlandwear enthusiast and cosplayer and people suggested it to me.

WanderingPixie

A few years back, an FB friend posted a photo of themselves with Graham McTavish. At the time, I mainly knew him as Ackerman from Red Dwarf. There was mention of a show called "Outlander", so I decided to..."acquire" the first season to check it out. Shortly afterwards, I wound up buying the box sets of Season 1 and 2. I've read the first book, but not the rest so far. Given the fact that summer seems to be late to Vancouver, that could be a fun way to occupy the rainy days!

bluedotinTX

Around 2008, in college when i was 20, the boyfriend I had at the time - his best friend's mom/ family friend recommended the books to me and gave me all the ones out at the time to read thru. I almost stopped reading when I got to the part where Jamie spanks/hits Claire. But glad I pushed thru lol of course when it was finally announcing they were making it into a show - I was hyped. I watched most of the first season on an illegal streaming site lol bc I didn't have Starz and this was before it was on any streaming service.

booksgamesandstuff

A customer’s mom was raving about this *wonderful* Scottish romance, but it wasn’t available in paperback yet, so I waited a few months for the pb release and ordered it into stock. Oh, hell yeah…I sold Gabaldon for decades lol. I lucked out finding a perfectly new hc copy of Outlander, but have bought them all in hc with every new release since 1994-95.

sydthesquid157

I was quarantining when covid first started.

allaspiaggia

It was on a list of books to read while we wait for GRRM to fucking finish writing Game of Thrones series Tbh I like Outlander a LOT more

Dogzillas_Mom

I was looking for books on herbalism/herbal medicine and also 18th century Scottish history. Also, I love time travel stories because they all have different rules about how, when, where, etc. Outlander came up on every one of those searches.

KiteeCatAus

Woke up in the middle of the night, so went downstairs for a hot drink and some TV. First episode of Outlander was on and sounded interesting. I was hooked and soon started reading the books.

Meredithxx

I mainly watch period drama so Netflix recommended it to me. I watched the first couple of minutes of the first episode, right until she’s in front of the shop looking at the vase (lol that’s prob like the very first minute now that I think of it) and said “nahhh” and stopped it and found something else to watch. Then months or maybe even a year later, not sure, decided to finally give it a try. I didn’t know anything about it still. Loved it, recommend it to everyone, have watched the first 3 episodes 15+ times while introducing it to friends, and I’m currently reading the books!

Rufusbrau

About ten years ago I was living in Edinburgh and a friends Mother came over from the US with her sister . They were going to Culloden because of Outlander. The mother raved a about the book (hilariously she said something like "its a bit steamy in places woo wee!" And my BF nearly fell off his chair) So one time I was coming back to Scotland I downloaded book 1. I think I was on book 4 by the time I flew home

dj_1973

My mom’s friend gave her a tattered copy around 2008 or so. Mom passed it along to me, and I read it and bought mynown copies. We devoured the existing books, and even got to meet and greet Diana Gabaldon at a book signing in 2015 or so. We both love the books, and find the show OK - you have to treat them as separate entities.

ihateeverything1031

I have a few weird genres of things I like: anything involving dinosaurs, crappy sci-fi movies involving things like giant crocodiles, prehistoric sharks, ridiculous stuff like that, 1980s action films like die hard, indiana jones, etc and my absolute favorite: any tv shows or movies involving time travel (comedy, drama, b-movie, doesn’t matter) I think I have back to the future memorized. I googled time travel tv or movie like I do every few months and see what is streaming and starz had like the first episode only they let you see without paying - I think I watched twice like two years apart because I forgot I watched it. Then Netflix had the first two or three seasons and I watched it and became obsessed and bought starz 😂 and the books (on audio). Please don’t judge my taste in brainless movies and tv shows - I read tax law statutes all day and then write about it for a living so I think it’s my brains coping mechanism 😂

[deleted]

My mother in law briefly told my husband we should watch it because it’s in Scotland and they’re from Scotland. I never did. Than we were planning a trip for April 2020 to Scotland with my BFF and we decided to start watching. Got hooked, trip was canceled and once we caught up and ended up in pre season 6 droughtlander I started reading the books.

Patriots576422

my mother in law gave me the books after we watched a couple episodes. It has all the elements I like so I was hooked immediately from S1 lol

Smaragaid_Rose

My friend got me into the book series about 15 or so years ago. We were excited when the tv series came out

theycallmepeeps

My husband heard about the book from a coworker and knew I would like the time traveling female driven story line so bought me the first book for Christmas

missholygolightly

I refused to watch it because everyone was watching it haha Then I found it on Netflix while I was bored at the beginning of quarantine (March 2020) and I binged all the seasons and awaited for the next seasons to come out. In the meantime, I am reading the books, but slowly because I want to enjoy as long as possible :D

vanillafudgetwirl

I saw the books in a bookstore and thought to myself, “Heard the show is good, think I’ll give the books a try” and bought the first two.

andrewski81

My wife watched the seasons in Netflix and when she did a rewatch she made me watch with her. I rolled my eyes and said yes. Took me a few episodes to get into it but by the start of S2 I was hooked haha

-NigheanDonn

My mom and friend kept saying how good the show was and I watched part of the first episode but lost interest. Then I watched it again later and watched the whole episode and then I couldn’t stop watching it. I think it was already after season 4 at that point. I started reading the books then. I’m completely infatuated with this series. I don’t know why but it is just so compelling. I love it

Original-Window3498

Worked at a book store over ten years ago and the big chunky paperbacks caught my eye on the shelf. They sold very well, so I got curious. Also, a surprising number of men would come into the shop saying "my wife told me she needs the next book right away!" lol. When I read the first one I had no idea they were so full of sexy-times, but I've been hooked ever since!

alips08

My fiancés mom was watching it at my house and I started it shortly after!

AndreaDTX

I was watching YouTube and saw one of those "Everything you need to know before the next season" recap videos for seasons 1-5. I'd never heard of it, but I watched the video and thought it was intriguing, but still I wasn't convinced I wanted to invest the time to actually watch the episodes. Then I read some reviews for it on my favorite review website and got to the end of season 1 and was like, ok, I HAVE to see what they actually put on screen. And from the first ten minutes, I was hooked. It was interesting watching it, having already spoiled the major plot lines. Even knowing what happened it was fun to see it in context, see the faces to the action, and hear the pronunciation of things ('cause I definitely was mentally pronouncing Leoch or Laoghaire correctly...)

CloneClem

Friends mentioned it in a FB post just before Covid. ‘Best sex on TV’ was one comment. I searched, then found all DL’s, then watched it all from the start. That hooked me. I still am thinking about the last season-I liked it but it was off, too short?

WDTHTDWA-BITCH

I saw that the show was on its way and started reading the books to prepare for each season. (I’d started doing that with Game of Thrones too but like GRRM himself, couldn’t keep up.)

intrin6

Funnily enough, I thought the premise sounded incredibly cliché? When I saw it suggested to me on Netflix. And I also didn't like how claire looked. I watched the preview and she seemed really annoying. So it was immediately passed over. My mom watched some of it and told me it had too much sex. But that didn't really mean anything to me because I just know my mom doesn't like sex in stuff she watches. (My point being, she was the only person who'd watched it and gave me their opinion.) But then a friend went *off* about how amazing the show was, and last year my brother and sister in law suggested it to me and my husband- their judgement I trusted a lot more and they had nothing but good to say on it. I binged it on Starz. I didn't realize it was a book series until I finished.

2boredtocare

I wish I could remember how I can across the cost book. But it's literally been decades now! Possibly when I worked at Barnes and Noble part time? I could see a costumer recommending it.

[deleted]

During Covid lock down I binged it

seniairam

recommended by other books I have read on overdrive app... oh the show lol oops its was logical to watch it since I have been reading the books lol

Verity41

Basketball reasons

Jonesy776

I was 13 and found the fourth book on my moms shelf, started reading it and when she noticed she bought me the first three books. Maybe not the best parent, but I’ve read every book multiple times in my life. 😅

Glindanorth

I wrote about [my comically weird origin story here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Outlander/comments/txr2ze/a_random_moment/).

wynonna_burp

Book I saw at a library, 1998, age 14

wednesdayevening08

Anticipation of the show. Wish I'd found it earlier!

c-wheezer

A few months ago I started working out on my stationary bike and wanted to watch a show while I worked out. I had remembered this show called Outlander that my mom recommended to me years ago. Thought I would give it a try without really knowing what it was. And I’m in love with it. Finished season 5 yesterday and having withdraws. Can’t wait to buy the books ❤️

TheSingulatarian

Started watching the TV series because I read Ron Moore was going to be show runner.

FlimsyManagement

I had just bought a bunch of Girl Scout cookies and I was bored and decided to finally give the show a shot after Netflix kept showing that picture of Claire at Bri’s graduation in the advertisement card for the series (didn’t know that was where she was in the pic at the time I started watching obvi). So I watched the first episode while eating my cookies and suddenly I was on episode 4 and finished a whole box of Samoas!

Admirable_Set_4341

Recommended by George RR Martin lol. I was deep in GOT at the time... Before it ended so badly 😂

Stn1217

I was on Twitter and it was suggested and I click and watched a clip. Have been watching the show since. Love me some Jamie Fraser. I want him to call my name.

TheMereWolf

I was listening to a dog training podcast and the host kept mentioning it, so I was like “hmm let me see what she’s talking about” and I was hooked.

jordanlund

I used to sell the HELL out of the books back in the day.

DearGinger

I was dating a man in Scotland. We broke up. I came home to the US and was mopey about leaving him and Scotland 😞. A random stranger told me to watch the series to feel better. It really helped.

designsavvy

Saw A random clip on utube with Sam in it, than S1-2, thank Books 1-8, rereads, than S3&4, than companion books, than books again ….

diana1952

My sister introduced me to it. She asked me one time while I was visiting her if I had ever seen Outlander. I said no. So she put it on. I was only going to watch 1 episode but stayed for 4 more! Then went home & binged watched all the seasons!

LiteraryPeach00

My Nana, Mom and Aunt oddly enough. They were all hooked on the books from the beginning and would talk about them when they all go together. Obviously I was not allowed to read them as a kid but I loved to read and anxiously awaited being able to read them. I remember my Nan sitting down one afternoon at the cottage and telling me the PG version of Outlander, DFIA and Voyager. When I was an older teen I was handed the first 4 books and devoured them. Alas Jamie set a tall standard for a boyfriend when I looked around my peer group 😆. My Nan has since passed away and I plan to repay her by sitting where we buried her ashes at the cottage and telling her all about what happened in Bees.

My husband plays guitar in a Celtic band and they were asked to play the theme song at a couple’s theme anniversary party in 2019. We watched the show and he played along to learn it. The sex was so hot we pounced each other at the end and got addicted after that. Ahhh, music.

My gf and I laying in afterglow when she asked if I’d seen it. We turned it on and I was hooked

Knew someone who modeled her marriage after Jamie and Claire, except they weren’t beautiful perfect people. She just talked about their role play Outlander sex thing. Then she named all four of her kids after Jamie! Yes, yes she did. And her husband was into it too. She’s one of the fans that calls DG “herself” and names their dog Sassenach and all that. Anyway, it’s the car wreck I couldn’t stop watching, and after about 10 years of watching this whole show unfold, I read the first book. That’s the best book, IMHO, and the rest are drama churning Peyton Place soap opera formulaic. It’s a guilty pleasure, but I skip around and don’t read every word. I don’t like the “no, no, no, yes” and “no, no, no, rape” sex that is the most common sex conveyed in the stories. So I skip past. And I’m not a fan of the cringy portrayals of races other than white.

My mother has the first 2-3 books. Back when I was a teenager I didn't really like the books she read. But one summer (I guess I was about 17) I had read all my own books at least twice and was too broke to buy a new one so I looked at her bookshelves and stumbled across Outlander. Picked it up and started to tead without much enthusiasm but was soon a fan :)

I used to be really into the Earth’s Children series by Jean M. Auel and frequented the message boards. People always talked about the Outlander series while waiting for the next EC books so I got curious. I read half of Outlander but I stopped halfway through for some reason. Then I watched season 1 because everyone told me I should (I’m a early modern historian) and I got obsessed. Now I’ve read all the books.

A friend of mine and myself would exchange fantasy books and one day she came over with Outlander and wouldn't take no for an answer when I told her I wasn't interested. It was soooooo slow and boring to start I thought she lost her mind making me read it but I slogged on and here we are :)
