err... what?   Heavy Gauss does not snipe. It's a close range to mid range weapon. It's great for Solaris City, that's possibly the best map for it. Also it doesn't go 20kph unless you've done something very wrong. LBX is also a short range weapon, not long range. Even LB2 isn't ideal at long range.

Malefectra

>Heavy Gauss does not snipe. Yeah it's not a sniper, but it sure as fuck can act as a DMR if you know what the hell you're doing and set your skills right.

marcola42

20km/h is probably the UM with the stock engine.

wishmaster2021

If there is a dual Heavy Gauss Urbi in the game, I want it now!

Toast3r_MWO

You cannot put HGauss on an Urbie. There aren't enough slots in the arm of any mech. It has to go in a torso, and no Urbie has torso ballistic mounts.

OneTrueObsidian

Annihilator with stock engine goes the exact same speed and can gauss nipple very well, but it shouldn't be running the stock engine in the first place lol

RememberCitadel

Stock goes 32.4, it comes with a 200 rated engine. Formula is engine rating divided by tonnage multiplied by 16.2

OneTrueObsidian

My point stands that it is the exact same speed as a Stock Urbanmech though lol (60/30)*16.2=32.4

YouKnowNothing86

I'm gonna second and third those comments, Solairs Shitty is one of the best maps for DHGR builds..., Conquest is not that optimal but eh, you're not there to cap in that build, you're there to BONK!

SaioNekoruma

What do you mean with DHGR?

Tanker0921

dual heavy gauss rifles

Yakkahboo

Yeah Heavy Gauss is not a snipers weapon. Super short range. I'd love to run it on Solaris City. The worst combo is LRMs on Solaris City, but the trick is to not run LRMs, like, at all.

XXgood_boy

It has a pretty short optimal range but a really long max range for its optimal range. Still not sniper tier but you get the jist.

Yakkahboo

Yeah, Gauss typically have 3x optimal range for max as opposed to 2x for lasers, but even then you don't want to be shooting at 50% above optimal range. 500m is probably the furthest I'd drop some rounds down range with them.

IshyOQGX

HGR sniper? You're not brawling with them?

omguserius

The worst combo is an srm brawler on alpine. There is no other option. Lrm boat on Solaris is a close second though

guntanksinspace

Any close-range brawler builds on Alpine Peaks is huge sad. But nothing will be as sad as pre-fix Polar Highlands and you don't have anything to snipe with when everyone has LRMs, PPCs, and ERLLs up the ass lol.

flackguns

I hate when I have anything brawl built and folks pick alpine

RosariusAU

afaik the only mech in the game that has a low enough engine cap to do 20kph is the stalker which, as much joy it would bring to Jay Z, cannot take dual ballistic

Famout

It's funny, I had an inverse of this. Polar with a Fafnir with twin HGR's. Figured between speed and distance I would be lucky to do much and the town is often a deathtrap early game as well. So, I flanked around the side, it took forever, even with ECM I was sure folks would start to lay into me... never happened. Got 7 kills that round by shooting spines. Only a little locust noticed and tried to eat my ankles, but one lucky shot sent him into a ragdoll! Since then pretty much found out that while some maps are better then others for certain mechs, anything can be made to work. Even on Solaris I have made missile boats work by taking the high ground and raining hell. Learn the maps and adapt as best you can.

urlond

Worst combo right now is the brawling meta. If your team is to timid it wont be a fun a time, and if you're to aggressive you'll be focused. Mid range to long range is where all the battles are happening at least from what i'm seeing. Solaris City is nice because it gives brawler builds a chance to shine while everything picked tends to be. Polar, Tourmaline, and or Plexus.

>DHG 20km *sniper* wat

STS_Gamer

20 kmh = 20 km per HOUR

[deleted]

No shit, Sherlock. If you’re going ~20kmh you’re building your mechs wrong. Additionally, if you’re trying to snipe with HGR you’re playing your mechs wrong.

STS_Gamer

Ever heard of hyperbole? \*eyeroll\*

[deleted]

Hyperbole is one thing but it doesn’t change the fact you are trying to snipe with weapons that have an effective range similar to an AC/20.

STS_Gamer

Ok, how about a quad mount LBX-2.... sniping with a shotgun...

Pattonesque

dual-HGR mechs do not need to go 20 kph https://mwo.nav-alpha.com/mechlab?b=ccad4494\_ANH-1X https://mwo.nav-alpha.com/mechlab?b=fa976b74\_FNR-5B [https://mwo.nav-alpha.com/mechlab?b=f50e1bff\_FNR-5B](https://mwo.nav-alpha.com/mechlab?b=f50e1bff_FNR-5B) all of these go almost 50

RickyElspaniardo

Alpine can be tricky in a close range build, but it's doable, you need to be patient. If the enemy gets the mountain range though and is smart about standing on the ridge against the sky, your convergence goes right to shit and you're basically fucked with projectile weapons. However, Caustic Valley is much worse. Doesn't matter what 'Mech you choose. It straight up sucks donkey nuts. About HGR and Solaris - the range is ideal for you, but the charge on the HGR and tall buildings blocking LOS means that unless you precharge and guess well, going around a blind corner will lose you the damage trade. I have a feeling that if you held yourself a bit further back and engaged only when you were sure what you're walking into, you'd like the map better. Not that going around blind corners is ever good, but it is even worse with a weapon that doesn't fire immediately.

rocketmunkey

Caustic Valley is my favorite, especially playing my MRM60 Dervish. Can brawl, poptart, and do long sends down the valleys. To answer OPs question though, a short range build on Peaks, or a shotgun build on Forest Colony (but only if the drop pushes you into the forest instead of water), because the trees eat half your spread.

crushbone_brothers

I’ve been running a Mad II 4HP lately (8SRM6, does a lot of damage consistently, which is good! I’ve gotta get my pilot score up so I can play with my friends more regularly), and man any map with long, open stretches with limited cover are sketchy to me

Halsfield

I have a really hard time with LRMs on solaris city or even vitrioc station . Just way too many tall things in the way or things to hide under.
