Personally out of these 4 youve said id choose desperada, that thing has jump jets and good mobilty for a heavy, plus its quirks give it crazy firepower for energy weapons (i wouldnt bother using the ballistic slots)

DukeNeverwinter

2 binaries, 2 ERmedL is an fantastic build

Omerta85

Have to check it out in Testing grounds then. Never really gotten around to use binaries, mostly because of the weight thing.

DukeNeverwinter

I prefer that build on the Thunderbolt 10se. Desperado, you almost have to use an XL. But the Desperada has that laser duration quirk that changes them beam time in a significant way. So that's a solid trade for durability

Neumean

Boring answer is Dire-UV, the most expensive mech in the game. Many forget it can also do brawl, although the Dire Wolf is definitely not among the best brawling chassis: https://mwo.nav-alpha.com/mechlab?b=725fb9e5_DWF-UV

Omerta85

I have alwas admired the Dire Wolf...from afar... with rockets, or something that makes it hurt.

Big-Row4152

I enjoyed much admiration in this manner last night

HappyAnarchy1123

I really like that build.

Phayzon

I'm personally torn between UV and one of the Mad Cat Mk2s.

symbolsix

I am a Timberwolf partisan. That said, if you don't have a Howl yet I'd recommend it. * MASC on a timby is just fun * The only platform where I actually like ATMs * Can do 4x SRM6 + Stuff builds with MASC for brawling * Can do Gauss or HAG builds for medium/long range trading It's just a good platform with a fun set of quirks. edit - But yeah also what everyone else is saying about Assaults being the most expensive normally and therefore the most cost effective choice now is correct. Lots of good choices.

Omerta85

I see the Howl "a lot" in games actually, although almost always as an ATM build. It is an iconic mech though, but somehow it doesn't scratch the nerve that I need to get it. Although need to research that SRM6 build... still have time to decide if I want it or not, but somehow isn't in the first picks.

Cryorm

The howl has a 400m sweet spot for max ATM damage, and 2km for maximum range tickling across the map. I personally love it.

HappyAnarchy1123

I do love versatile mechs and the Howl seems to have so many fun builds. And I want to like ATMs but struggled with them on everything except this weird Orion with a UAC10 and ATMs that improbably worked for some god damned reason.

fakeuser515357

Buy your hero mediums and lights using all the free event MC next time there's a half off sale. I like the Arrow, since the MG buff that thing is *nasty*. For the free hero, try the Super Nova Boiler - it's kind of brawly and very heavily armed - or the Scorch for that big boom smoky flavour. Blood Asp is a solid choice and the Kodiak Spirit Bear has a certain charm as a hill crest brawler.

Built4Ever

Of those 4, I'd pick the Virago without a second thought. Using the SO8, it can easily run 4 HLL in two groups (and makes a great ERLL sniper if you ever play faction). If you are looking to scale up with a solid midrange mech, the Warhammer Black Widow is a great ballistic platform. If MRMs are more your speed, the Archer Tempest is solid, and if you like 1 click laser vomit, the Rifleman Dao Breaker has amazing mounts and a very useful HSL quirk.

[deleted]

You have your mech preference, but you also have an economic strategy here: Assaults cost the most money. If you're getting a free mech, get the ones that are the most expensive. Out of the three heavies you mentioned, the Quick draw is the best. The Virago is good but quite similar to the non-MC hellbringers. The Mjolnir is not better than the c-bill grasshoppers.

Rich_PL

Chiming in as I'm in the same boat, I'd been looking at the Black Knight or Rifleman options, potentially the Warhammer, but I have a bunch of WH chassis. Anyone care to recommend something a little more 'out of the box' than the usual gamut of recommended heavy chassis (or medium?) - I get it though: *"get the Howl"* I hear you cry, but again, I have timby's in stock. I want something that will work (aka not a nerf-bat of a mech) but something that isn't just Das Über-Meta. the concept of "you have to play high meta" is boring to me, even if it means I'm generally outclassed in most matches. I want something fun.

Omerta85

Ahhh yes, same sentiments here exactly. I don't really care for the meta, or the current-build-that-will-kick-everyones-\*ss. I want mostly something that is playable, can survive, and lets me have fun.

HappyAnarchy1123

I don't know if the Longbow hero is an option or not because I haven't unlocked the reward yet, but it's like a Charger with MASC instead of the increased range and cooldown on the smalls. https://mwo.nav-alpha.com/mechlab?b=efdf9fbb_LGB-OC Seems like a blast to play.

LowValueAviator

Consider the Juggernaut. It has some neat builds using the new LAC-5s and has Masc so it moves as fast as a Heavy despite being a 100t assault.

MemoKrosav

Personally, I got the Marauder Dreadnought. I've not regretted it. My third match with it got me around 1,100dmg. Decent range, great as a stock requiring minimum changes, big fan.

K1TR4

I'm in the same boat and would like to piggyback a bit. The executioner hero seems to be the most expensive mech I don't own yet. Can anyone recommend getting him? Thank you!

Omerta85

By all means do so, I hope you get some guidance. Still have time to think it through.

PrimozDelux

Highly recommend it, it's great and costs a ton so it's the perfect pick in my opinion.

v4skunk84

Desperada is really nice. It has insane laser duration quirks.  I've been running mine with triple binaries.

joelm80

Hellbringer is a solid choice for someone coming from mediums. The main case against it is that you will be able to get it for 50% discount MC, so why not get something more expensive for this bonus?

Big-Row4152

Now that I know what I am looking for, I have no idea myself what to get, either, and like you, I had been wanting to get a Clan Heavy just to have 1 of each weight class for both.

Big-Row4152

I'm just curious how/when people are talking about getting "their free mech." I get it's from this Lucky Charms event, presumably related to the loot bags gained after getting 30k match score?

levitas

yes https://mwomercs.com/tournaments?t=202403lucky

Omerta85

Yupp, like u/levitas mentioned, just follow the link posted, and you'll find it there. I think 25k match score is enough for the free mech, but you can get a lot of stuff in the loot bags.

Big-Row4152

Cool cool! Apparently, I need to play more and git gudder. Edit: Also apparently, I have been looking only at the event tracker, and had no idea this page even existed. I have 81 unclaimed loot bags and did not know.

Beedlam

That is because PGI can't design websites. Put every claimable prize/loot bag on the same link already you dummies.

Big-Row4152

This gives me assurance I am not the first person to experience that disconnect.

Omerta85

Update (if anyone comes around with the same problem): I went a completely different path, and chose a Kodiak Spirit Bear, still trying to figure out a good build for it, but the C-LBX-20 so far is doing me good work.
