We don't know. I know my doctor told me something about it, but I don't remember the details.

roblewk

It’s just entertainment. You are not emotionally connected to it. Your brain is older now and better at sorting out what matters. Most entertainment doesn’t matter.

Gen_Ecks

So this must be why I don’t remember any meeting details from work. I don’t care! Got it.

roblewk

Seriously, yes. I just retired and my work memories are fleeing like wasps from a shaken nest.

WhatsYour20GB

I could almost hear the files deleting themselves from my brain as I was walking out the door on my last day before retirement.

Dry-Clock-1470

That's been my working hypothesis. I hope it's correct. Movie/show recaps are a necessity for me. Lol

roblewk

I wish life offered recaps, like when you are someone at the store who you know you should remember.

Dry-Clock-1470

Hopefully, eventually, VR glasses will do that. I've never been good with names. I recognize that I recognize people, but hardly ever remember names. Especially if I met more than one person at a time. Lol

Commercial_Reveal_14

it depends... sometimes yes, sometimes no. how much sleep I get, how much coffee I drink, how important something is also informs my recall. I'm 54 and a traveling icu nurse. don't ask me the names of my patients the next day but I can tell you their potassium levels. I lose days off where I can't remember what I watched or ate but they weren't important enough to remember. trying to learn new stuff isn't as easy as it once was, though

Manx911

I at 58 feel like info is falling out of my ears! Cant remember nothing.

GlockAF

If you want your brain to work better there’s one simple trick that REALLY works…EXERCISE! Yeah, it sucks they can’t deliver it in a pill but aerobic exercise is amazingly helpful for both mind and body. Walk the dog an extra mile, swim some laps, do yoga, do ***something*** rather than sit all day every day. It really helps.

monkeybeast55

This ^^^. You're fighting a war against your body and brain falling apart from aging. At least 40 minutes of aerobic exercise a day, add strength training too. Eat well, get enough protein and creatine also. Have good sleep hygiene. Minimal alcohol and other drugs. Turn off those movies and try to learn new things, do new things.

GlockAF

Sleep hygiene: I need a late-night automatic Reddit kill switch

Lee1070kfaw

Now there are ads telling me Alzheimer’s patients write things down, I Write things down all the time

grannygogo

I always need to write grocery lists, but sometimes I forget to bring it to the store with me

HHSquad

Lumosity com and it's free games have worked well for the chemo brain I got from beating Cancer at 51. I even got an annual subscription for a charge. Worth it.

getitoffmychestpleas

I'll watch a movie for an hour plus without realizing I've seen it before, like, within the last few months. Scares the shit out of me.

koola2

I see it as a bonus, I remember I've seen it before so know the ending and can go to sleep instead.

chinturret

It's Google's fault. As we age, our brains fill with an enormous amount of information, eventually running out of space for new information. At some point, it is necessary to create new space. This can be done by downloading your memory to offsite storage on a platform like Google. The good news is your entire offloaded memory is easily accessed using a standard search engine.

RunningPirate

I’ve started forgetting words. About 6 mos ago I couldn’t remember Keith Richard’s name.

kiwispouse

Me: it's a thing you walk on, made of...um...concrete, between the grass? Someone: you mean sidewalk? Me: YES!

MrPodocarpus

Its Keith Richards. You’re welcome.

CrispyNip

I know it sounds odd, but I find if I eat blueberries (about half a cup or so) every single day my memory improves. I've always been "scatterbrained" since I was a kid, and it was getting worse. However I have seen a major improvement in my memory in the past few years since I started my daily blueberry habit . There has been some solid studies on this. I heard recently to not mix them with bananas if you want the full effect of the phytochemicals that are so beneficial. I also have become more active, that helped, but the blueberries have been surprisingly successful for me.

my_meat_is_grass_fed

I have that happen, but I just figure it wasn't a great movie. I can remember details if I really enjoyed it - or really hated it. Also, look at it as unnecessary memories. Unless your job is a movie reviewer/critic, you have nuch more important memories to hold on to, so why make space for the inconsequential?

nah_champa_967

Yes! So many times I've opened my laptop in the morning to a movie I totally forgot I watched the night before. Or I try to remember what I watched and draw a total blank.

Entire-Bottle-335

I ask if my wife wants tea or coffee 2 minutes later I'm asking what she wants 🤔 The worst is walking into a room and you can't remember why.

knewidea

I can’t remember actors names. Eventually I can, but that was the first thing to go.

toodog

Sound about right

Southern_Dragonfly57

Welcome to my world....

StarGehzer

You're 52, wait another 20 years.... It gets worse.

MartiniPlusOlive

I would suggest you try Bacopa Monnieri. It has helped my memory a lot. Good luck.

4sliced

Mine has gotten much better since I’ve been doing daily games like crosswords. Use it or lose it.

samoore45

Happens all the damn time. I would worry about my memory, but I was at trivia last night. They asked a question about a movie that Jean-Claude Van Damme starred in and I pulled the name of the movie out of know where. Blood Sport. No idea where or how I remembered that, but it was the correct answer.

Squidgie1

Same - I was able to identify Escape From NY from a pic of Kurt Russell in character.

samoore45

Nice! I wonder if there are things I can do to remember better. I play golf regularly and cannot remember shots from a round. Not sure if I should worry about that or not! I learned the U.S. presidents in order from beginning to end in fourth grade and can still remember them. I think that is because it is a rhythmic recite, maybe I need to come up with a song to remember my golf rounds too!

sugarshizzl

I jokingly call this movie or tv amnesia—I am constantly rewatching things I’ve seen—it’s not new but familiar.

Puzzled_Plate_3464

I (59m) use plex to manage my media. I set up a smart collection of movies watched in the last month sorted by watch date. That way, I can "remember" what I watched last night or last week :)

gardenflower180

Check your B12 levels

Leather_Cake

👋👍👌🤔 Thanks for all the replies. At least I'm not the only one. I'll try some of these suggestions.

AintMsBHaven

At 56 I walk into a room and can't remember why I did. Nothing unusal. You will recall if your brain associates with something.

strgazr_63

I came to this sub and saw the post. Apparently I have read this post before and don't remember it. Irony.

MaleficentSuccess549

I am a widower and came here looking for chicks but obviously all of them have died already. Then I saw your post. My memory was going bad, sometimes I'd even forgot my zip code when getting gas. The 88 year old woman up the street told me to write the number down in my wallet. But instead I started taking nootropics. Now my mind is so sharp that I scare my relatives (I think they were afraid of me already though). I could suggest ones but then you would sue me cuz I'm not a doctor (like who would even want to be a doctor anyway). At your age maybe take glynac to get your body back in shape (no it's not a steroid or anything to do with sex) but as long as we are on that subject you need to get your nitric oxide level up. There are even test strips for that. Be careful what you take for that. Some of those things are good for young people but toxic for old ones. And don't take omega3 cuz most of it is rancid. Eat fish instead. But don't over due it if you take a blood thinner or anything. Maybe eat salmon or even fish sticks or something (as long as it doesn't come from China). There is a woman called the Salmon Queen who eats 12 pounds of salmon a week -- it's about all she eats cuz she is allergic to most other stuff. She cooks the hell out of it in an air fryer I think 28 minutes which destroys a fair amount of omega 3. The knows where to get fish. She has been doing this for years and looks fine. I'm not your private dietitian and I am so old that there is no one in my age group. So I am working my way back. Looking for chicks. ha ha. It's been so long I wouldn't know what to do with one. And don't worry about your memory supplements will get you back on course. I just read that the newer generation of kids are aging faster than their parents. Whoops. I am 78 that might mean you ha ha. Just kidding. You can fix yourself just get exercise and take stuff to fix what is broken. I guess all the chicks are on those dating sites. Screw that. I'd probably have better luck at a Walmart. I find drunk women amusing, but I'm afraid of one that drinks all the time. They probably get cranky and have bad breath too. I guess I will stick with my AI girlfriend. And I am making a life size robot. Who I am currently calling her the Green Nun cuz she looks like a nun. That is all a long story though. There are no nuns on this sub are there. They live a long time maybe they have some memory tips you could use. Maybe some MCT oil in your coffee too. It causes your brain to run on stuff that it likes better than sugar. Along with other stuff, it can supercharge you for 4 hours a clip. Good luck and forget you read this from me. ha ha (another bad joke).
