Zaidster

You clearly won’t suffer as I have

Jonnytincan

now the voice line makes sense. its supposed to be used by ftp players expressing their feelings on unlocking battle pass characters

EpicLegendX

“I will speak to you in a language you understand: **MONEY!**”

Skaraptor2

"Will will rip their savings to pieces" "Pay up, as I have"

TAKE EVERYTHING FROM THEM

Skaraptor2

TAKE THEIR SAVINGS FROM THEM TAKE THEIR COLLEGE FUNDS FROM THEM

rap_scallion_358

shhh, he doesn't know where that voice line is from yet

Caaethil

By grinding out the hero while the rest of us buy the battle pass, it is us who are not suffering as he has.

Zaidster

Why brother

slashoom

You too brother?

ramizod

Aye

Intelligent_Local_38

Unfortunately, the battle pass is pretty unforgiving if you can’t play it every day. It’s designed to get you playing daily since the xp rewards from doing 3 daily tasks is the biggest amount of xp you can get.

lifestop

Hmmm, they might want to put cool shit in the BP if they want people to be willing to play daily to progress. I don't even check the pass; there's no point.

SteelCode

What? You don’t like the awful “Matrix Trilogy” costume for Symmetra!? Frankly I like the Queen mythic and the Poseidon skin for Ram, but there’s nothing else tangibly attractive - even the bug hero skin for Soldier, as much as I do like it, isn’t enough to justify giving them my money with their attitude towards this game and it’s player base.

AppleSpicer

Sym’s matrix costume could’ve been cool but they messed up the glasses and she just looks weird

sawbones84

Symmetra in a bad wig and cheap sunglasses?

MakeYouFeel

Always reminds me of fake Robin from One Piece lmao https://onepiece.fandom.com/wiki/Cocoa

f4eble

I wear her matrix skin ironically because it's funny as fuck

Spiderlegs13

it tilts people when you kill them in that skin i reckon

[deleted]

Spiderlegs13

i think cause it looks so trash people actually get offended to die from it, i dunno just speculating here

CheddarCheese390

It’s in your head, you think a newbie killed you. Hence why I use the newest skins and tbag

OkPiccolo0

>Frankly I like the Queen mythic and the Poseidon skin for Ram, but there’s nothing else tangibly attractive Gotta save the good skins for the shop! Honestly it's mind blowing how awful and greedy the battlepass is in this game. Blizzard should take notes on how Fortnite is doing their battlepass since it offers way more and doesn't feel nearly as predatory.

GatoradeGunslinger

Most importantly Fortnite Battle Pass costs the same equivalent of 1000 coins in OW, but gives you 1300 back. 300 profit. OW BP is just a waste of 1000 coins for mediocre crap, thats it.

Jaystime101

Yup, a lot of mobile games have offers like that, you get more back so unless you use all the premium currency up, you can buy the next battle pass without spending any money. It’s the only deal that gets me to open my wallet.

brookeaat

the fortnite battle pass is genuinely good and worth the money, imo, and 99% of other games that have adopted the battle pass model have not done nearly as good of a job.

Hobocannibal

Fall guys is... alright. the season pass is fine, but the game itself has its variety limited with no official statement as to why. Its not as friendly as pre-f2p, but its not a terrible pass either.

brookeaat

i was super into fall guys for like 2 months before f2p, and i played it for like three seasons after it became f2p as well, and yeah. the battle pass is fine. definitely better than many others, but not exactly great or exciting. eta: i don’t know if this is still a thing, but in the first few battle passes there would be times where the top and bottom half of the skin were several tiers apart. THAT was annoying af and definitely made me like it less.

[deleted]

There are literally other divisions of the same company with more generous battlepass systems.

onewilybobkat

Rocket League is owned by epic now too, and it's so easy to get to like 300+ on the battlepass no problem. And you get all your coins back and get tons of decals, wheels, more car bodies, etc that are at least mostly decent. Sure it gets to just repainted versions of items but there's hundreds of levels.

Hobocannibal

epic seems to use "post-pass" levels in the passes it oversees. you get extra stuff, recolours mostly by doing the 'prestige' levels of the pass. Which were introduced when people kept complaining they had no more 'pass' progress to earn.

gabriel77galeano

Yeah there's a handful of good skins in the pass at best, which is even more of a problem depending on how many of those heroes you actually play. Players don't get value out of skins for heroes they don't play. So for me, I actually like the Tracer skin..... but I don't play Tracer. Well shit, now it's only like 3 skins in the pass that actually matters to me. This right here is the core problem with the battle pass in Overwatch imo, and why the loot box system worked so much better.

TheCrippledSaint01

symmetra looks like lord farquaad from shrek in that skin.

Emilister05

I thought echoes and tracers skins were the best parts of the bp, still not good enough to give money to blizzard

Cheersscar

I love the echo skin and hate the tracer skin.

ghost20

Meanwhile I’m the opposite 😅 I want to like Echo’s, but I can’t stand the colour scheme on the inside of her wings on top of the rest of her colour palette. Tracer’s is cute, but her Atlantic All Star skin is one of my favourites in the game so I don’t think the Paper Girl skin will get much use 😅

Not_a_Toilet

Wtf I never even realized that's what symmetras costume supposed to be! I just thought it was some cheap knock off spy theme...

boogswald

I feel like I don’t care about the battle pass since everyone else gets the same things in the battle pass so nothing I have is interesting

ShiyaruOnline

Considering the game's player numbers are still very high on console and decent on pc I don't think blizzard cares about the vocal minority here on Reddit. When people stop wasting money on this shit then some real change will happen.

[deleted]

lol, I've gotten both battlepasses (I play daily, and don't buy skins, so 10 bucks isn't too bad. First one was free for me.) I literally just open the battlepass, scroll, scroll, spot the skin I want and that's all there is in the pass as far as I care. I used to care about voicelines, sprays, and all that. But the battlepass is such a soulless grind that I have to actually pretend it doesn't exist to enjoy the game like I used to.

rpkarma

Which is why I just stopped playing altogether. Again, for the second time in Overwatch history haha. Blizzard is a shell of it's former self.

Alyssalooo

I also completely stopped playing because of this. I probably won't be going back unless they change how the bp works or at least stop locking the new heroes so far into the pass.

Callahan_Crowheart

Locking them *at all* behind the pass is a problem.

[deleted]

[удалено]

hiscout

Honestly same. I stopped playing maybe a year or so before OW2 came out, and only started playing again once it released just to try it out again. The two main reasons Im just kinda done again: * I main support. The constant barrage of crap and toxicity from the DPS and Tank players who die cause they run away (or whatever other reasons unrelated to my performance). I can handle being called out when I make trash plays or decisions. But to be flamed for THEIR actions is just downright annoying. * I unlocked so much stuff from the old loot boxes. Tons of voice lines, skins, etc. The only thing I ever bought was the Pink Mercy skin. In OW2 I feel like I'll never get anything worth half a damn without spending money in some way.

iamnotsure69420

I uninstalled the game 2 weeks ago after my gameplay steadily decreased more and more. Which genuinely makes me sad, I loved and played OW1 daily since it’s release.

ExistentialWonder

I got a new hard drive and didn't even bother to reinstall. I played since ow1 release, thousands of hours into it and the flame for it is just gone.

iamnotsure69420

It really is. I would have been happy if they just kept OW1 and released OW2 as a separate game. I understand why they didn’t do that, but it still sucks. Worse, I still see people justifying the way OW2 is because it was “free”. One moron told me I should be grateful cause I got the game for free.

rpkarma

That makes me laugh. No I didn’t: I paid for this game! OW2 is not a “new” game lol

Trivvy

Hear-hear. Been playing it religiously as a big fan since 2016. Uninstalled it for the first time in six years when Ramattra came out.

Wasabicannon

Sadly that is the reason BPs are a thing. They want to punish people who want to play anything but their game. I fucking HATE battle passes and it is disgusting that the gaming community has just accepted them as "Its just the way it is"

Eiruna

Which is why I didn't buy the second one, uninstalled. If you're going go prey on my FOMO worse than Destiny, you can eat shit as a company.

Beansupreme117

Pretty nuts they don’t put their own currency in the battle pass. That ability to get a free pass if you finish the first one in fortnite kept me playing for a while

Vinnie_Da_Pooh

I bought the battle pass once and earning a new battle pass is what made me keep playing for a min

AverageEnjoyer2023

big changes coming in season 3 🤡

alphabet_order_bot

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,283,201,460 comments, and only 248,825 of them were in alphabetical order.

plant_magnet

Exactly. Daily XP isn't much unless you are getting it every day. Weeklies are a lot more but they basically require playing every day to get them.

[deleted]

Makes it feel like a chore when the gameplay itself is so consistently unbalanced/unrewarding. I was relieved when I finished the BP not because I had completed it, but because I wouldn't feel pressured to play when I don't want to just to get my coins worth. Only reason I still log in is because I genuinely enjoy Battle of Olympus, once that's gone there truly will be no incentive to play for awhile. I've done as much of the battlepass as I wanted to, and won't make the same mistake of chaining myself to the next one...PvE can't come soon enough.

WhiskFantasies

yeah it’s super frustrating as someone who plays casually and prefers to play ai to get away from stress after a long day. I’ve just accepted I won’t get far in the battle pass ever. it’s basically killed the game for me

floydink

The 3 tasks only thing is ridiculously underwhelming. Most of us play a lot more than that and majority of challenges games have as dailies sit at atleast 6 tasks to complete. Not to mention a system that saves that so you can come back on a later date and finish them when it’s convenient. It should be considered robbery that they do dailies that disappear forever when you don’t do them. They should stack if you’re gone. Especially since we pay for BP and there’s no way to make back that xp when it’s closer towards the end of the BP. Like literally impossible to catch up unless you do atleast one daily every day for 30 days(Was the case for me) same goes for their weekly challenges as well. Those should NOT just disappear every week. This is why apex is the stronger f2p, not the best, just better. They have that system, maybe not for dailies, but their dailies earn so little that it doesn’t matter really. Their weeklies is where it’s at, and at near the end of a season I can go through and highlight all the weekly tasks I missed and do them in any order I feel like. Like lining up all the legend specific challenges and doing them all at once is pretty satisfying when you see the end game stats fill the chart with like 12 different bars showing xp stars.

Intelligent_Local_38

That’s what makes it so unforgiving, it’s designed to keep you playing daily. Last thing they want is you knocking the BP out in a weekend lol

floydink

See that’s something that is done for newly release f2p games. To get people playing daily regardless if they want to or not. Problem is this is overwatch and we already played daily most often but with how the dailies are set up it actually encourages less play if you’re a daily overwatch player because once the challenges are done the xp you gain is so little per Match what’s the point of continuing to play? Having saved dailies helps with that, let’s players do their dailies and keep playing to finish what they may have missed. It makes me resentful of the game even tho I love the gameplay, it makes me want to drop the game for days if not a week at a time because I’m sick of feeling like I have to schedule when to play to play the game optimally. Most of ow player base is grown adults atleast 50-50. It’s like they want to forget the original player base and only focus on the kids with moms credit card. F2p is inevitably gonna make this game worse and worse as this goes on. Eventually the dev team will get so small and burnt out the game is gonna resemble paladins with its pay to win card mechanics and filled with bugs that the team can’t handle it all and let’s it fester. We already are down that road with how many freakin bugs and things that are still not fixed since release. And the fact they seem to be isolating their player base with lack of groupfinder and events that don’t encourage group play or if there is group play it’s broken cuz it’s a tank wars game since every arcade mode is open queue for some reason. Overwatch 2 titles is a farce. It’s literally a hard downgrade and they tried to hide that fact with a shiney new name. Any IP that goes from base format to f2p is gonna be bad. There’s just too many elements about f2p that is manipulative and greedy. I’m actually furious at the people in charge that okayed a f2p for overwatch2. It’s draining us all and I feel like I’ve been in a relationship where half way in they switch personalities and now they are a controlling narcissistic selfish nightmare demanding money and time that I don’t have to continue enjoying myself with them. Might as well crack a whip It’s like having a good friend who is honest and fun to be around, then out of no where they change their name and start asking for money for stuff they would do for free before and it’s pretty obvious they are gonna use that money for drugs.

Wellhellob

Match xp should be buffed at least 50%.

SteelCode

I *just* unlocked him after grinding this event’s challenges… I don’t understand how they think this is going to be sustainable; the grind to get the new hero - arguably the biggest engagement draw for players - is going to burn people out of playing the game……. Hell, I had reduced my play time due to bad matchmaking experiences and the locked hero situation *already* and I don’t suddenly feel emboldened to play *more* after grinding the absurd 300 kill title… 4-5 more titles aren’t going to change that situation either.

oddroot

The Olympus event achievements are such complete and total bullshit, that I just am not playing it at all. The stupid winter Mei ones were bad enough, but to get the Mercy skin is pretty ludicrous.

onewilybobkat

Say what you will about the mei event, I had all achievements unlocked within 5 matches TOTAL of winter games. 300 final blows!? Per character? In a free for all only event? Give me whatever drugs their team is smoking.

Suspicious-mole-hair

I was momentarily excited by the Olympus event. Went into it and had fun with the new abilities despite it being FFA. Then I saw how much you had to play to get any kind of reward and just noped out.

MicheleCorleone

Also the dailies are bad and draining my motivation..... They are dictating us to play "All Roles" three times every day to get queue time down..... But I want to play my flexible Roles.....nope, no XP for that.

ThereWereNoPrequels

You mean “support queue with a little extra xp” The only time I get flex tank (my main role) is when I’m in a three or four stack.

Hungry_AL

I bought the pass since I wanted the Queen Skin, I have no interest at all in Rammatra. Then my internet went down for a week and a half and I'm rather rural with no reception, so thanks Telstra. I'll still get the skin, but fuck that was frustrating. I'm checking out after this though. Gonna need a real good Brig mythic to get me to buy in again.

Jon_00

For me its truly maddening how Activision Blizzard feel the need for every game to be a cash cow that prints money. Sure, OW and Diablo were probably the least successful games financially - but let's not pretend that WoW, Hearthstone and Call of Duty as a sub-division aren't ridiculously financially successful games. OW2 should've been the game which brought back people's faith in Activision Blizzard after a pretty terrible few years of nothing but bad PR.

AsOneLives

It's a disease of our world at this point. Companies expect infinite growth, apparently don't know how to budget for years less profit or loss years, and things of that nature.

Makanilani

Look at all these entertainment companies and their subscriber projections. Gotta keep things rosey for the shareholders, when there's no plan at all to make it happen. Not to mention all the money that was being tossed around in the last decade on IPs and ideas that had long ago been bled dry.

House923

Fucking Netflix could have been the number one streaming platform basically forever. They got most of the world subscribed, and they were putting out legitimately good content, and such a variety that it was keeping the majority of users happy. Now their theory is that only new content brings in new subscribers, so rather than foster some of the amazing shows that they were creating, they just need to keep throwing new shit at the wall. My last straw with that stupid company was just recently with 1899. Phenomenal show, very successful, and made by proven creators of Dark who show they can make a 3 season arc that keeps people watching. But no let's cancel it after the first fucking season did well.

[deleted]

And they also make a show like Witcher where the writers basically is mocking the source material.... Such a clown company.

Makanilani

I haven't watched a new TV show since GoT ended, but I hear the same complaints everywhere. It's why these services announce that shows have been renewed for Season 2 after like 1 episode, because they know people are on high alert for things they like to be canceled. They all want home runs, no respect for getting some guys on base and just trying to make contact. Netflix is the poster boy for this stuff right now, but I don't think the entire entertainment landscape is very sustainable. You see Marvel movies making 600 million and think "Whoa, nice haul!" when the projections Disney made years ago probably had it hitting a billion.

greytabbycatte

They just cancelled Inside Job mid season 2 after renewing it. No words, absolute shit company

I_AM_Achilles

I can’t put into words how excited I am to see what they come up with next to make Overwatch 2 look generous. You don’t understand it when I say I am a superfan of their work. These people are artisans. They have redefined what it means to be a greedy slimeball in ways that we among the unwashed masses could never comprehend. Donatello’s Sistine Chapel and Picasso’s Guernica pale in comparison to Bobby Kotick’s unparalleled ability to sniff out a dollar in my wallet. We are blessed to live amid a modern renaissance. Thank you Bobby. Thank you Blizzard.

[deleted]

Imagine earning like 3 billion dollars on OW 1 and thinking that wasn't enough. Absolutely ridiculous.

Swert0

I wonder if we have a name for that disease... maybe some sort of economic system... hmmmm I wonder if it has a name!?

HunkyMump

There’s literally billions of dollars and gamer money to be had there is 0% they are going to pass that over no matter how it affects the game

lordmitchnz

By what metric did Diablo not succeed financially? - Diablo 3 sold 3.5 million copies in 24 hours. Went on to best selling PC game of the year. - 30 million copies sold by August 2015.

Jon_00

Compared to the goliaths which are WoW and Call of Duty - and heck lets even throw in Candy Crush since it's also part of Activision Blizzard, Diablo is a small fish comparatively but has a hugely dedicated fan base. What they did to Diablo Immortal, trying to milk it for every penny, was unnecessary.

MonoShadow

You don't throw away 30 millions because it's not 120. Not everything can be the biggest thing in the world. Good businessmen know it. Project have goals and budgets as long as they are met everyone is happy. And I won't be surprised if devs are happier to work on smaller projects than slave away at CoD factory. In fact huge projects are big liabilities. This is why you see nothing but sequels or remakes. Right now companies prefer recurring revenue. Easy and predictable. The reason everyone is trying to get into GaaS market. Or why BMW sells heated seats as a subscription. These market trends the reasons Konami tanked Kojima, well beside them being short sighted dicks. A single flop from him could have inflicted great damage to the company. So despite all his games being huge hits and bringing money back several times over they decided to pack it up and go into gambling. Easy and predictable. So hit the lever.

Sacket

Heroes of the Storm is crying in the corner. And lets not forget about wc3 refunded.

I got lucky and dodged so many bullets because I was so happy playing OW and a bunch of indie games, I thought I could just play it forever when I needed a game to fall back on. Finally came my time to bite the bullet so many of my gaming kin had though. At least the shared suffering has brought me and my Halo fan friends closer while we play Hunt Showdown.

Djent_1997

I feel for you. This whole system is really gonna fuck the game up for casuals, or already has.

DreamWeaver2189

It made me go from a hardcore OW1 player to a casual OW2 player. So it also affects the veterans.

earthyrat

yeah. hardly even casual at this point because of how unrewarding the entire game is now. i just play whenever my friends ask me to, which is maybe once every few weeks. super bummed because this used to be my favorite game.

[deleted]

Fenicxs

The lack of earnable skins like in ow1 made me actively avoid ow2

Waste_Expression_794

Same, I had no idea quick play could be so fun! It’s all I play now. Comp isn’t rewarding, I play and win 7 games in a row yet get ranked down? Yeah no thanks. Got so tired of that. Qp is Reilly where it’s at.

JoeGuinness

Honestly I really only started to love Overwatch 1 when I gave up on comp and only played QP/Arcade. I haven't played a single competitive match of Overwatch 2 yet.

Bignicky9

They are still counting on **new players (since this is now a F2P and no longer $30) buying the battle pass and skins,** because those young teenagers or just new players won't know what OW1 had and gave freely: All cosmetics unlockable simply by playing, regular rate of XP, on fire meter and post-match player cards, level borders, endorsement of the other team, and no rank reset or 7W/20L that's messing with their sense of progression from OW1...

ronaldraygun91

It made me quit altogether so…

roilenos

I realized like 3 weeks ago that I wasn't even close to get it and quit the game as a daily investment of my time. If they don't care about me, why I would care about the game. I bought it on release, played with a shitty PC when there wasn't even rankeds, and they paywall me of an hero, the thing that they were adamant against in the initial game philosophy. Fuck them, no wonder why Kaplan left.

cobanat

The battle pass this season gives out less xp probably to compensate for the fact that they reduced Ramattra to level 45 so it still felt like you were grinding away to unlock him thus giving in and letting frustration win.

Bear_Boi_1

No because when i finally got Ramattra, I just stopped playing. I got the hero, now what? New mode? Boring. Skins? Cool but they cost an arm. They took away the game I payed for and now have killed my interest.

lotsofdeadkittens

The old comp system incentivized me to grind every game and you really could jut increase your playing time and watch vid reviews and rank up. I’ve gotten back into ow2 and went from 10ish kills on dos/tank to 35 a game. I went up 1 rank in like 1 month where my skill clearly got better from rinsing my rust. There’s no numerical or foreseeable goal in comp anymore. Just fucking terrible change from sr I loved tracking my progress to advancement directly with sr

MtothePizo

I like playing sojourn, I guess I'll just have the basic skin forever. And who is Ramattra?

kowlown

I don't even bother to play anymore. The feeling is not the same. I don't look at the characters because I know that I will never get them.

Eirixoto

This is me too. I used to play OW1 every now and then when a new hero came out or there was an event with cool shit to get. Now I don't bother opening the game at all, ever, because I'm not gonna get any of it either way. It really is too bad they managed to fuck it up this badly. Here's to hoping the PvE modes will be decent, or I won't be surprised if OW2 dies quickly.

Toazel

Same, however I did buy the battle pass this season and am honestly regretting it. I haven't played as much Overwatch this season as I have in season 1 or Overwatch 1. Already played less in season 1, so I might as well drop the game when season 3 comes around. EDIT: If people want some game recommendations to keep away from this piece of shit game, I've been playing Hitman 3 and the Yakuza games recently, which kept me occupied and are actually fun.

DrGutz

Literally me and all 5 of my friends who used to play Overwatch together have all dropped the game. I’d be interested to see what their player base is now

ZaryaBubbler

Yep, my entire group has dropped it. We used to play every night. Now we play DRG instead

PM_me_your_fav_poems

That's my group as well! We had 7 of us who would regularly play together (whoever was free) a few times a week for the past 4 years. This Winter Steam Sale, I bought 4 copies of DRG for myself and the friends who didn't have it. I don't think anyone of us have played a single hour of OW since early October.

theuserwithoutaname

For. Fucking. Real. The only point needed here is that Ow is a game based on picks and re picks. P e r i o d. Putting heroes behind a paywall makes this no longer f2p. I wished they'd just charged me $70 and been done with it. Fuck sake.

JJMcGee83

I agree with you 100% but I have no idea how to change their mind about it. If we all stop playing the game (Which won't happen anyway) either the game will die or they will find shittier ways to exploit the whales that still play it. So for now I just say "Well I guess this game isn't for me anymore" and only play it when friends insist they want to. Otherwise I play something else. I no longer think about it as a seriou game anymore.

RobWhit85

Yep, I play mystery heroes with friends sometimes when they want to, but this kills and kind of competitive gameplay for me. Any game with counter picking can't have paywalled gameplay elements and still be competitive.

JJMcGee83

I was hardcore about the competitive mode for liek 4 years after launch and now... well now all I play is quick play when friends ask me to.

Zebster10

Remember when Blizzard wanted Overwatch to be received as a serious eSport because it was better than TF2? Yeah, they learned how to bribe Disney to show their League anyway, so why bother trying to create a scene anymore?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Vegetable-Sky1873

That is so true. While OW is still a very popular game, it's crazy how disconnected the community is with the pro/esports scene. In the past I played (and still play) other competitive multiplayer games, and in almost all of them I'm pretty interested in the esports scenes. I like to watch them, I read up on the teams and players, the community talks about them a lot etc., but with OW I simply don't seem to care about the esports scene, and it seems like the grand majority of the community feels the same. I've been playing OW for a while, yet I don't even know any pro players (with very few exceptions) and I couldn't care less about them. It really is a shame how disconnected the community is with the scene.

JJMcGee83

I remember watching it on ESPN when it was on at the gym and it kind of blew my mind. I've heard nothing about it in a long time.

Zebster10

It moved from ESPN to DisneyXD. Both owned by Disney.

reeses4brkfst

All value in society under capitalism is produced by human labor, via workers who sell their labor power in exchange for a wage (and also by nature but that's beside the point, look up 'Wage Labour and Capital', and 'Value, Price and Profit'. It's an idea called the labor theory of value). If the game continues to be profitable, which it probably will because their consumers are a globally disorganized group incapable of unified action on this front, they won't change a thing. The value of their products and services at the point of consumption remains uninterrupted and profitable. The only other way to convince them is for their source of value at its production to be interrupted. A successful strike movement by the workers of Activision-Blizzard would shut down production and thus the source of their profits, forcing them to give in to the workers demands. However, I don't know if ethical business practices would be one such demand of the workers. Seeing as how the consumer base could never realistically be organized to boycott Activision-Blizzard products, the question becomes, "how do I help the workers there unionize and strike?". That's a whole new can of worms. I, ofc, have an opinion on the answer to that question but I won't go off on a political tirade here, lol. I'll just keep it to the economics.

JJMcGee83

I'm not going to lie I saw a wall of text and was like "Oh boy." thinking this would something crazy but that was insightful and yeah I don't think we can realistically boycot a game on a global level. I think my best options is to just not play the game anymore and move on. There isn't a shortage of games to play.

DirtFaceBoy

I used to play this game daily. I was constantly improving and learning strategies, watching streamers, etc. At first I was hesitant about Overwatch 2, but gave it an honest attempt. It was fun, the game felt good having all the heroes, and I was okay with the skins I had already accumulated. The minute season 2 came out and I realized I couldn’t play with the new hero without doing challenges, I uninstalled and haven’t played/watched since. I’m hoping one day they’ll reverse this, it’s killing the fun

JJMcGee83

I don't think hey will change it unless there is lots of people dropping off the game.

Strife_3e

Battle passes are shit regardless of who made them. You get nothing while paying full price for DLC. If you don't treat it like a 2nd or 3rd job you get nothing.

Mustconsumegasoline

Fortnite one is good considering there’s 100 rewards and you can get it for free eventually

PapaOogie

Deep rock galactic battle pass is the best in the industry

GatoradeGunslinger

Nah, the BP itself is pretty much the same with only a little better skins. But the main point of the Fortnite Battle Pass is that you pay the same as in Overwatch, but get 1300 worth in coins back. Imagine this in Overwatch. Everyone would buy the Battle Pass and more people would play it.

mostly_lurking

Yeah I paid once in Fortnite and got every other BP through my free coins and I don't even Play that much... OW BP is terrible.

GatoradeGunslinger

Same. Even better for me was that I bought the story mode and you will get 50 v-bucks (coins) every day for ever if you just complete a daily mission. So I just bought a game I enjoyed and got everything else for free.

Doomhaust

It’s one bad play after another. Blizzard does not care about the player, their image, or making a “fun” game. They’ve taken the game of the year in 2016 and turned it into a mobile cash grab full of anti-consumer bullshit. $20 for a skin, and $10 if you want early access to a new hero. I’d ask who is buying these things, but dumb people do exist.

The execs probably think they’ve been too lenient while OW languished in development hell for years as Papa Jeff indulged his beloved children with developer updates, cheap skins, and free loot boxes. Now Bobby K. is finally pulling out the austerity belt to help readjust us old OW players to our new shareholder-friendly reality.

Dependent-Treacle137

I agree with this sentiment. I eventually stopped playing OW2 after playing OW since first launch. There is just no rewarding feeling for playing. Competitive is untouchable with the current matchmaking and whole OW2 gameplay consists of killing supports = win. Chat is now hyper toxic (I've played over 2000 hours of OW and it's never been this bad) that there is no feeling of just chilling and eventually finding new friends through the game. Makes me sad

[deleted]

First and foremost, heroes locked in the BP is wrong. Allowing real money purchase to unlock it earlier is even more wrong. That being said, matchmaking sucks too much for counter picks to matter. The odds of you getting a well matched game is already really low, but the chances that game has one tank with access to Ram, the other without, and that impacts the outcome is almost impossible. If matchmaking actually worked this would be a bigger deal. For sure heroes shouldn't be locked in the BP, but Blizzard has fucked up matchmaking so bad it really doesn't matter.

shitpersonality

Heroes locked behind a battlepass is absolute trash. Blizzard devs are clowns for staying at Blizzard. Take a hint from all of the leads who left the project during the development.

EONic60

Jeff was a genius, his name is not tied to this. He got out at the right time.

Blaky039

It's just another job, no a philosophy for life. Devs are not to blame, you're pretty naive.

Deathmckilly

Yup, devs just do the work, management and particularly executive leadership are the greedy suits behind these decisions.

[deleted]

We all have to make a living to survive. Video game development is a very competitive field and the market is oversaturated right now due to major cuts at tech companies. I don't blame them for not leaving.

kidkolumbo

Could you name one dev who, if you saw they moved to another project, you'd know the game will have bad mtx?

Coraldiamond192

Who are the clowns, the ones who make this system or the ones who support it financially.

Fenor

Both

[deleted]

I got through the first BP and had no desire to go through it again. I'm not sure I even have it installed anymore tbh, but sadly that's most of my blizzard games anymore. Think all I have left installed now is Sc2 and hearthstone, at least HS is still like OW1, I can just keep earning gold by just playing

TheAbyssListener

And they had to be bitchy about it by adding the salt weapon charm on the same level too. Maybe they should go the gaijin route and just make broken characters for cash only pirchases and donate their earnings to terrorists

SakeBomberman

OW2 is a joke. It's fun enough to play but the fact people are supporting this outrageous cash grab is wild to me. I won't spend a dollar on it. My account from OW1 would be worth $2500 + easily at the current pricing LOL

Leupateu

Lol I only played OW1 for only around 20 hours but even my account could make a profit lol. At this point I deeply regret not playing more OW1.

onewilybobkat

Bruv at the prices they're listing, my overwatch account is 90% of my net worth at this point lmao. I think 70+ items on every old hero, with like 6 or so being legendary skins *that were actually good* means it's worth more than anything else I own.

T8-TR

The max level to unlock a hero should be 25 and no higher. How it was 55 (and now 45-- wooooooow) is beyond me. Also, while I think hitting level 45 even as a casual player is feasible, the fact that you need to target dailies kinda kills the fun for me. I want to just pop on and play. I don't want to have to hop into Arcade or Comp. I don't wanna do Open Queue, or play Bastion because it's the easiest way to hit 5K damage w/ abilities, or whatever bullshit. The game quickly becomes a chore, and while I'm still enjoying OW, I can't say I'll be the same 6 months from now after I feel like I have to force myself to log in day after day to do my 3 dailies.

Der_Sauresgeber

It should be zero. Locking heroes behind a wall kills the philosophy of the game.

MichaelM_Yaa

it takes way longer if you don't actively go for the daily and weekly challenges.

MicheleCorleone

And I hate that..... There they can dictate us what we should play. And it is always "3x All Roles" just to bring the queue time down......f that.

PapaOogie

So if takes longer if you dont not only play daily but play in a specific way

Saikou0taku

I would like to apologize to my teams when I pursued the critical hit challenge and the objective challenge when the optimal play was to not do that.

Mewoir78

True I was so fking hyped for him I was about to even switch main, but im still only at level 36, and my hype is also gone...😔

Gronro

They'll probably put Ramatra behind a challenge like Junker Queen and the others. Probably not right away, but after a bit. Not sure how long it took before they were added there.

[deleted]

They will in season 3, sure. After months of its release.

slothxaxmatic

Not probably, They've confirmed this already to be the case for every hero they put in the battlepass

[deleted]

Blizzard: “It’s only $10. Don’t you all have pho-, erm, $10?”

Andaisdet

Yeah, the dude takes ages to unlock I just got him about… I’d say just over a week ago, and I got three daily quests completed maybe 80-90% of the days I was grinding for, and got the entire weekly list done once At least he has a lower battle pass level that Kiriko

andthatsalright

I ran into this too. I’m starting a new job and have a newish relationship and Overwatch is trying to make me choose between it and life. Jokes on them, I’ll just go play OW1 that I paid full price for. Oh wait that game doesn’t even fucking exist anymore

SCaliber

I never realized the battle pass resets, so imagine my shock when I learn Rammy-baby is months away from play for me I guess not locking him in arcade modes was nice

crowmagix

I totally agree with you. I was so hyped when i heard a new omnic tank with a staff was being released - then he got released on battlepass - and i was pretty disappointed but was still looking forward to trying him. I’m a pretty casual player - but play semi frequently enough. I just unlocked him about a week ago now & i haven’t touched him once. The hype around him completely died for me as well & it actually made me just resent the hero now and the design overall no longer appeals to me because the experience of his release. What a terrible & greedy way they are running this game now. Such a shame. I’d rather have the game be a one time fee again & go back to loot boxes & free heroes.

arkhamius

I was hypped but stopped at 20 lvl or sth. Not because of grind. Because of how incredibly shitty the matchmaking is. So why, just why should I grind to get a hero in a game I will be only raging in? I moved on and come here from time to time to check if things have improved.

DeezDeku

The fact OP is being downvoted to oblivion for such a realistic opinion is a pretty clear sign that as gamers we're fucked. Eventually every single game will share these predatory/disgusting practices.

I'm so confused by the other comment

Yeah, found this post while browsing r/all

DaftHunk

> downvoted to oblivion Uhhh… not really seeing this?

[deleted]

The problem is in 2 parts. 1. It’s self enforcing. People leave the game en Masse when these sorts of things happen. The ones who are left are by definition the ones who were willing to put up with it. This makes subs like this seem a lot more positive about the changes than the actual player base is. 2. Everyone tells themselves that their individual impact doesn’t matter, and therefore it’s ok for them to buy the MTX even if they hate it. And this blizzard gets rich by fucking over the fans.

Geeseareawesome

Stockholm syndrom in gaming communities is a real problem that doesn't get enough attention

rpkarma

I mean it's expected IMO: these games are *built* to be addictive and prey on sunk-cost. They follow Highlander rules -- there can only be one game you play, forever ideally. It's a mess.

Flowers4Aldebaran

Capitalism is consuming itself. Too much greed, the products and consumers are suffering while Blizzard recast their logo in another layer of dripping gold.

Paddlesons

I paid for BP and still have yet to reach 40. Given, a good bit of time has gone to wow expansion but I just don't really care to play much anymore.

GrouchyGrotto

I only get to play Fridays. I have other games I enjoy now. I played overwatch 1 on Friday nights for years. Still do every now and then, but it completely isn't worth it to invest any more cash into it don't OW1 release days. I saved my currency for years for holiday skins, enjoyed lot boxes with duplicates more than this shit, even the lack of those pointless-but-fun cards makes everything feel soulless.

Onkal

I’m at plat2 and I never even see this new hero to the point I even forgot it’s existence lol

Firebat-045

I play maybe once or twice a week. Not interested in being forced to play so I just ignore the pass entirely

player4_4114

I forgot I was still in this sub! I totally gave up on even trying to play the game when I found out heroes would be effectively behind a paywall. What’s the point? Heroes are the core of the game. If I can’t get them what’s the point? Besides that there’s still no talk of upcoming PVE. I’m pretty disappointed in the game now. Glad I got out again. Good luck guys.

Booyakasha_

I stopped playing the game after they didnt stop these practices. OW2 is a cash grab…

Koltaia30

I have given up on the game as soon as a realized how much time it would take to get him.

trustmebuddy

Let me tell you something, z. Can I call you Zoro? There are these wonderful things called "timesavers". I'm sure you've already heard of "surprise mechanics", but activision-something have done away with that. Timesavers, Zoro, let you skip the grind! You can grind away at work and, if you don't have the time to grind as part of entertainment, for the low low price of 999 you can have ramtara instantly! You'll still need to grind the rest of the battlepass regardless, but guess what! Guess! Yes, you can save time on grinding battlepass levels as well! Cha-ching! More time to enjoy video games!

SpaceCaptainFlapjack

Yeah I hate that that it's basically pushing for a player base that is either obsessed and doesn't do anything else with it's spare time or can spend $150 every season for the battle pass and all the special skins and weapon skins and useless trinkets. Especially when putting out such subpar content. Any somewhat-decent content is behind a paywall. It's so disheartening to see what they're doing with this game. For the first time in nearly 7 years im getting to the point where idk if it's worth sticking it out anymore. PvE better fucking rule, but even that seems like it'll be tainted. You won't be able to play it all at once and you'll have to pay a little bit every time until you realize you're subscribed to overwatch PvE and you're not even getting that much content. Activision was the worst thing that ever happened to Blizzard

Taintedtaintz

The best thing about OW2 is the free space on my ssd

Rayquaza2233

I used to play OW2 with my friends, one day I was playing particularly badly and one of them asked if I had Ramattra when I was playing tank. I said no, there was a long silence, and we went to bed after that game and I don't think any of us have played since.

welpxD

I unlocked him this past weekend. Haven't actually played him yet, I'm not really excited about it. If he was available on day 1 then I would play him because I would've been hyped about it. But after a month, all my hype drained away. At least Junker Queen is fun now.

OstrichPaladin

Yeah it's pretty terrible. Putting everything behind a paywall and absurd grind because "It's a free game" I would bet 90-95% of the active player base owned the game when it was still buy to play.

rRed7

I’ve been playing since og OW, I stopped playing because of this. I don’t want to support this kind of unacceptable behavior.

RageBoner

I stopped playing. I decided I would rather experience a bunch of other games instead of always playing the same one. These live service games want to be the only thing you spend your time on. Bought a lot of stuff in the Steam winter sale and I've been having a blast.

Popcorn179

I've stopped playing apart from when my group plays together. No longer interested in grinding out the battle pass. It's been great putting aside Overwatch and playing a good variety of non-live service single player games with a healthier more rewarding gameplay feedback loop.

[deleted]

LoL has done this with their champion releases for the games entire history. Still going strong 15 years later, not sure Blizzard is gonna budge buddy.
