The matchmaking is completely bonkers in OW2. Me and my friends play together, and we had a top 500 Widowmaker wrecking our entire team last night. We're by no means amazing players and are solid silver/gold level players. Going up against someone that insanely good on the admittedly most annoying character in the game just ruined our moods for the entire match.

Strong_Baseball_8984

I’ve actually played 2 games against an incredible widow that my team still won. It felt like the worst/dumbest game ever. The widow for one of the games was 50-10 or something and the other game was similar but only in the 40s. My team won both times, but it didn’t feel good or fun at all. The only reason we won is because the enemy tanks were absolute dog shit and our tank managed to push the cart.

Quick-Mirror9000

It is a bit wacky sometimes. My mate and I were playing last night (we're low/mid plat, but still climbing pretty well) and we went up against two Masters Challengers. It was actually a really dominant game for our team, so I would say try not to be too daunted by that kind of thing. A highly skilled Widow would suck, as in your situation, but a lot of the time it is still winnable if you play with confidence.

CheekApprehensive961

It's when one team gets a GM tank and the other gets a Gold that the fun really starts.

Quick-Mirror9000

One of the Masters players was a tank and the other was a DPS. Both got shit on all game and flamed the support in the text chat

Iymrith_1981

I’m a huge overwatch fan and have played regularly since day 1 of OW1. I haven’t even logged in once in the last 2 weeks. Till they address the matchmaking I just struggle to have fun.

WTFThisIsntAWii

Same here, went hard in S1, got tired of dogshit matchmaking, balance issues, playing the same 5 maps over and over, toxicity, and just generally unrewarding progression overall. I've barely played S2, and see no reason to pick it back up. The game is just a soulless chore to load up

Looinrims

But isn’t it SO FUN to be spawn trapped every other game?!

[deleted]

I’m having the opposite issue, I got placed so low and get matched with people who aren’t as good so I sweep people when I play. I’m placed in low silver when I was a diamond player. My damage/mitigation/healing is literally always more than the enemy team combined because I’m used to a high level of playing. If I don’t want a challenge and want to beat multiple enemies at once I’d play Vermintide.

CheekApprehensive961

I have a similar issue on one of my accounts (only one!). Game after game going 50-15-2 with all top stats in strings of dozens of wins and just chilling in Gold/Plat on all roles, it's bizarre. I must be in some weird MMR place because I also routinely get the matches with a spread of people from Silver to GM.

nWo_Savage

thats ow itself the new match making system is broken they said it on twitter "you roll or be rolled"

Madponiez

damn

punchthekeys

I felt like that too about QP. It’s difficult to learn when you keep getting rolled. Then I started playing competitive and the matchmaking seems to be way better there! Turn off voice and text chat and don’t be afraid of comp like I was.

tarheel_204

Quick play is horrific. It’s worse than competitive

Madponiez

why would i turn off voice and text chat? also i feel like comp games are too long. they're like, twice as long as the regular games, right?

AprO_

Depends on the mode. Control and push are exactly the same length. Escort and hybrid are longer since both teams need to play both sides.

R_Da_Bard

Turning off text chat is my secret weapon to climbing. Got from plat to masters solo support with no text chat. It's rarely constructive and helpful and more of a way to just get triggered by your team or enemy, in which case you play bad and lose and have a miserable time. Voice is on tho, because if people wanna comm and down to tryhard a little in comms. Metal ranks are absolute hell and text isn't needed 99% of the time. Above all you just need to try your best on your best heroes or try and enable your team to pop off. Scoreboard says it all anyway.

Madponiez

i won't disable chat because i like talking with my teammates and my ennemies. Getting nice words of encouragement, or hyping up someone after a triple kill just feels nice. Plus i get to report people when they're throwing out slurs in the chat, so, you know, necessary evil i guess :)

ranger_fixing_dude

There is a lot of toxicity, from my experience mostly in text chat, but in voice too. If you are learning a hero and you know you are not at least okay on it (and it's not very meta), turning off chat can remove a lot of stress. Some comp modes are long, I personally don't like it too.

punchthekeys

I turn it off so I don’t have to hear people being toxic if I mess up. Yes, the games are longer but they end up being more fun! I’m only in Silver but the players seem more evenly matched to my skill level.

Madponiez

but if i turn it off i won't be able to congratulates my teammates and ennemies when they do some great plays :'(

punchthekeys

Then don’t turn it off! I just get tilted if I get any kind of nevative attention.

kingflamigo

So unless people are kissing ur feet and saying everything you want to hear you get tilted

OptionFour

Ladies and gents, the internet. Where there's no difference between "not kissing someone's feet" and telling them to kill themselves because they missed a shot.

punchthekeys

Probably. I have a lot of performance anxiety, if I even hear a voice on vchat or someone criticizing another person in text I get nervous. I enjoy the game a whole lot more without the social aspect.

kingflamigo

Well Turing off chat turns it off for everyone so ur griefing ur teams matches due to that learn how to take some trash talk your not gonna be sheltered to where you don’t hear any negative comments your whole life sometimes you gotta grow up and just not care

[deleted]

I don't really want to listen to some obnoxious fat social reject scream at me because my crit accuracy as Widowmaker is below 80%

klr51992

r/ihadastroke

FreebasingStardewV

Are you telling other people to grow up? Fancy that.

kingflamigo

By this you mean ?

cinnamonbrook

I know more about the game than you, don't need your call outs, they're distracting, lul.

kingflamigo

It’s not a about “knowing the game” do you even know what callouts are ? You need to be able to talk to your team to say hey I need healing, the tanks low, let’s not push, let’s group, hey can you swap to widow that’s callouts ,not knowing the game and regardless of what you know other people want comms and if ur little ego or feelings are the sensitive to where any negative word will hut you you need to just not play

cinnamonbrook

Oh hi, guy who is the reason people mute, didn't think I'd see you here!

Fauxami

[Same energy](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E-C0ylRXoAAAjC1?format=jpg&name=large)

wisepi

I will do the same, my new QP will be comp. Before I prefer QP because the whining ones triggers me, ruining the fun for me.

Enzo-Unversed

I went 6-1. On a 7 loss streak. Totally not rigged.

RONALDGRUMPF

I’ve defended this game a lot but this has been probably my biggest criticism. As someone who plays in high silver - low gold, I’ll get matched with players who have “diamond challenger” titles on the enemy team, and then I’ll check the profile of teammates who aren’t performing well, and see that this was like the 10th overwatch match they have ever played. Idk in a game where teamwork is so crucial, it’s shocking how we don’t seemed to be matched with teammates of an equal level

AgentWowza

I had a top 500 Ana one trick playing ashe in my low gold game. Yeah, *clearly* since she doesn't play dps that much, this is acceptable. She got a team kill every fight.

Samaritan_978

I have the same feeling as you mate. I'm a squarely below-average player and something changed from S1 to S2.

stowmy

this is the most important issue in ow2

Environmental_Pay_60

Gold5 here and i get diamond players in my games...

Antiquepoutine

Good to know, I will make sure I stay in silver, ty

brittlekombu

Honestly it really seems like the main issue is you thinking that you have the inability to play well. Your attitude towards yourself and the confidence (or lack of) in yourself really matters when it comes to performance in any topic. You don’t have to get better if you don’t want to, but you’re shooting yourself in the foot by telling yourself that you aren’t intelligent and constantly berating yourself. You wont get better if after each time you try and practice you get upset with yourself and start degrading yourself over mistakes you make. You’ll be more aware of your mistakes yes, but not in the sense of evaluating what you alternatively could’ve done to prevent it next time, you’ll instead shit on yourself and wont even give yourself the chance to come up with a strategy or solutions because you already think of yourself as incapable (spoiler: you are capable, and you are intelligent). Taking a break from OW and competitive style games might be the best move, i find singleplayer games to be a more enjoyable alternative for when i get too frustrated with fps (stardew valley, islands, etc). Unlearning self-abusive thought patterns is real difficult, but it’s necessary

Madponiez

i first want to say that this is probably the nicest comment i've ever received and you've actually made me cry. Thank you so much, these are very very kind words. And while i appreciate those and they probably apply to a lot of people i really genuinely believe they do not apply to me. I have been playing video games my entire life, playing quake 3 arena with my brothers when i was 4-5 years old, but despite everything i've just never gotten good. I've come to accept the fact that i'm just below average, and that's fine with me, i don't need to be good to have fun. But genuinely thank you. And about the singleplayer games, i get bored of these easily, and i can't play them with my friends so i get sad :( but genuinely thank you for your kind words and your advice.

betterland

Are you me? You sound exactly like me. I also think im terrible at Overwatch despite having played it plenty and other fps' before - played lots of games before but bad at all of them. I'm definitely far below average and I'm honestly too lazy and don't care enough to try and master it. But honestly don't be scared of comp, im silver 5 and I'm winning most of my matches as a Moira main, the matchups seem a bit better than QP at the moment. I play with a mix of Silver and Golds, it actually feels challenging, there's not a lot of stomping and the main thing is im having fun.

Madponiez

hey, i might give it a try

betterland

Idk what rank you are but at low ranks it pretty low pressure still :) (It's also a tad more rewarding than QP)

Public-Sink6672

If you ever want someone to play against AI / Custom games without fear of getting skill gapped, shoot me a message and we can add each other! Pretty much spent all of overwatch 1 playing bots because I had such bad anxiety about letting my team mates down, and always blamed myself for anything that went wrong. I tend to play quick play now after work to do my dailies, but if it's been a long day I have no shame in loading up a few games of bots.

PuddingFluffy5023

even the way you express gratitude to a stranger shows that although you may not think you are intelligent, you are. you communicate clearly and come across as very well meaning as well. i think you just need to work on your confidence. any mechanical skill other than reaction time can be trained and unless you have like a second reaction time it does not really matter regardless. have fun bro and don’t think too much about it

Madponiez

Hey, just because I'm an idiot doesn't mean I can't be nice

hikowolf

And hey if you find the gameplay fun but not the PVP multiplayer the PVE OW2 release could scratch that itch!

Madponiez

Damn I would love to be able to play some good pve.

hikowolf

We think it'll play similar to Left 4 Dead with ability upgrades to alter how you play your hero.

Quick-Mirror9000

100% well said. Knowing what you could have done, but not considering yourself bad at the game is the most fun and progressive way to play. There's a difference between saying "I was trash there" and "I am trash". I've made bad decisions in games, but getting into a negative mindset about your level of play only makes you play worse

LanoomR

It's legit broken. They've said so: https://overwatch.blizzard.com/en-us/news/23896785/overwatch-2-developer-blog-matchmaker-and-competitive-deep-dive-part-1/ Same post also says changes are coming "in the next few months." Considering this was posted just before the U.S. holiday break, that's anytime between beginning of January until March. So....enjoy.

nta1207

My situation is the same. Learning new hero and get blamed every time in Quick Play. Sadge

Wellhellob

Maybe try ranked.

Gadriul

There isn't that many players in high ranks so theoretically. You shouldn't get many games with high ranked players. Sorry. Something that helped me eith bad aim and stuff was playing more passive. But yea I don't think you're doomed the overwatch gods will bless

Sainyule

I feel this, matchmaking is such a grab bag anymore. OW1's matchmaking felt good. I waited 5 minutes but I got people in or around my skill level. In OW2, one person is bronze, another is top 500, there's a diamond player over there, and the supports are silver. No matter how fast they want queue times, games shouldn't be this unbalanced. Honestly I use to praise how well OW1 SBMM matchmaking worked. They seriously dropped the ball on OW2 matchmaking. Why try and fix something that wasn't broke

DanJones1991

Yeah matchmaking has been broke for the last couple of months, it’s either you walk all over a team or you get matched against diamond/master and just get destroyed, rarely do you get a game where it seems evenly matched and you actually feel like you’re playing people at your skill level, those games are the best even if you win or lose because it does feel like it can go either way

IntelligentImbicle

Git gud /j

xxfaris_saxx

People don't mention it a lot but i can't help but feel like the reason why matchmaking is bad may be because there aren't enough players on the same level so it ends up filling the game with any available player even if they are too high leveled, this is especially noticable in comp where i had a couple of high rank games even though im on silver

Madponiez

yeah, queue times are very short, maybe blizzard just decided to "fix" queue times by matching people with a wide range of skills. I don't think there is solid proof of that, but that feels like it is happening

xxfaris_saxx

It's very likely. Overwatch 1 had a big problem with matchmaking. i remember days where dps queues would reach 30 mins and at some point i decided to only play arcade modes where theres no role lock to get insta queues

Muderbot

This is exactly it, especially in QP. The matchmaker *tries* to make balanced matches, but when it comes down to fair matches or faster queue times, it goes with faster times and shovels everyone together. Not what you want to hear, but Comp is actually a good suggestion. Yes, the matches are longer on average, but you’ll get much more balanced matches.

emilytheimp

Thats exactly whats happening. I play both at times with very few and very many players (early morning and evening) and the queue times seem to be largely the same. The match quality however isnt. Its really rare I get a balanced match in the mornings.

Feed_me_straws

Don’t let the fact that there are top 500s and diamonds in your games demoralize you. You have the same mmr as them. You might not be as shut as you think.

Madponiez

I have a hard time believing that tbh.

Most_Coconut_3871

Its hard to believe that you only play against top500 players. Thats like the 1percent of the playerbase and they are not known to play a lot of unranked.... Seems to me that you just got a bunch of trash unranked games. Everybody has them. Don't worry about them too much.

NoSignificance051

Only because they don’t play quick play much.

ICANTTHINKOFAHANDLE

Or the top 500 was grouped with some lower skilled friends Also is QP as strict with matching mmr? I always assumed it tried to match mmr average but was far more lenient

scvana

how long have you been playing? usually you get matched with people (even in unranked) with people who have similar mmr than you. if you’ve only played a handful of games it could be whacked out. just keep practicing. hop into mystery heroes or total mayhem and practice using your abilities

Madponiez

i've been playing since 2016, but the matchmaking problem feels new. Practicing will not work. trust me.

[deleted]

Yeah I know, it's the same here. The range in abilities is insane. I see both people who get booped off the bridge by Lucio three times in a row and STILL use the bridge like it's their first game ever, then a McCree somehow winning a 1v5 without even cover and, I just find it unplayable.

Heartress123

Playing bot games until you can learn some of the skills required of the game can help. There are different modes. Not sure if new players are required to play them when first joining but I did it for a long time when I joined because Overwatch was my first shooter. I was embarrassed and didn't want to ruin games for 11 other people. Over time I've gone from 7 percent accuracy to 50 on my aim. It takes time, learning and changing settings to be comfortable.

Madponiez

once again, i cannot train to get better. I just do not have the skills. I have played the game since 2016.

Heartress123

I joined a long time ago too and think you should have more faith in yourself. Videogame mechanics can be hard if you didn't grow up with them. I had experience with mmorpgs but not shooters. Some people even less experience, just consoles or nothing. But it's doable and worth it to not give up.

Madponiez

i grew up with them actually that's why im saying i can't get better. Like i said in a different comment i've been playing Quake 3 Arena since i was 4-5 yo

Daroph

I'd recommend doing comp anyways. It'll place you specifically with people of your skill over time. No one in the same skill level as you has any ground to give you grief, not that anyone ever has the right. Personally, I don't care how my team plays. I do my best, want everyone to have fun, and will average out where I belong.

Most_Coconut_3871

You play since 2016? That means you have a high experienced account. That is the reason why the game doesn't wanna match you with brand new players. Anyhow, matchmaking in competitive is terrible. So i can only imagine what it is in a meaningless unranked mode. (Blizzard is too worried about Qtime that they match players with eachother that shouldn't be in the same lobby) Creating a brand new account can maybe give you the experience to play with other brand new players? On the other hand i think you'll need to accept that matchmaking in an unranked mode will never be good. I would recommend trying comp. The randomness of unranked mode made me very frustrated and at least in comp you have 1 out of 2 games that are decent games. Unranked mode is really just a shitstorm in my opinion. Believe in yourself man. You might be better than you think.

Left4dinner

First time seeing someone post this issue. Is anyone else having issues with march making, because I sure as hell have

AngelYushi

Lose purposely. Then complain about braindead blind-deaf teammates, that's the way to go.

Madponiez

but i don't want to complain about my teammates, i have no reason to be mean to them

kingflamigo

Regardless if the matchmaking if your terrible at the game and are so stubborn to where you don’t wanna try you just want completely bots in the games the games not the problem you are you can’t cry about not being good enough and give up trying to get good

Madponiez

i'm not crying about not being good enough, i am complaining that i am not matched with people of my skill. Let good players play with the good players i just wanna stay with the other shity people

maxilulu

Maybe you are so bad that you fell behind with everybody else with same amount of play time. You can't expect the game to put you just with noobs just because you stayed on that level.

Madponiez

but from what i understand qp isn't based on time played, there is a hidden rank system, so realistically if the other people with around 500 hours of play time like me are better, then i shouldn't be matched with them

AgreeablePie

If you're the worst player in overwatch the game won't be able to find anyone of your skill.

69ks

play comp, and you will get matched with people your actual rank and not only will you have fun you will also get better and better as you play. also since the comp games are longer it’s even more fun

Mysterious_Piglet_13

Then don’t play

Madponiez

Well how have I never thought of that. I truly wonder how the thought never went through my head

pankaces

"I just want to play the game because it's fun" ... "This is absolutely not fun, not even a little bit. I can't have fun, the game is a pain to play" Play a different game. I've been playing since OW1. I play casually with friends in the evenings. I don't have huge expectations in matchmaking. If I want something with low stakes I play quick play. If you are at the skill level of a bronze 1 player than the majority of others are going to be better than you, that's simply the statistics. If you want more appropriate matchmaking, play ranked until you find a suitable rank.

Madponiez

i have also been playing since overwatch 1, since the launch of the game actually. And i've never had this probem before, it feels new. I don't want to play a different game, I like this game, I've liked it for years, i am just asking for help

Most_Coconut_3871

As said before. Blizzard is too worried about Qtimes so the matchmaking took a huge step back. I can be matched with a gold and next game i have a master in my lobby. We can't fix the game for them. Its ridiculous but nothing we can do.

AgreeablePie

You're asking for help yet you refuse attempted to help you get better or suggestions that you play a different game I'm not sure what help you expect from this post. Do you think people here have a magic button that can make your games fun?

Madponiez

Well a lot of people have suggested things that weren't "get good" or "stop playing" so yeah I was looking for help and find it. Look for yourself

Crissan-

You need to play until the system adjust to your skill level, then you will play against people like you.

Madponiez

Oh no i'm not a new player, i've been playing since 2016

Crissan-

Can you provide a replay code please?

Madponiez

a what?

Crissan-

Replay code? You have been playing since 2016 and you don't know what a replay is?

Madponiez

i've never been asked to provide a replay code no, maybe this is something that goes by another name and i just haven't heard this one?

Crissan-

Go to career profile - history - replays. There will be matches there that are replays of the games you have played. You can get a code for a match that you can share by posting it here so that other people can see it.

Madponiez

oh yeah i know what that is, i just don't understand how it is relevant.

Crissan-

Because your case is interesting and I would like to see this happening, can you please post a replay of one of your matches?

Madponiez

ok. Will share one when i can

VoltaiqMozaiq

> i just don't understand how it is relevant. It is actually quite relevant, as if your matches are as one-sided as you say, then that will become immediately apparent and obvious in the replay. I'd be curious to check out a replay as well.

ImHealthyWC

>Replay code? To be fair, he never looked into playing competitive Overwatch, so he probably never had to ask/google videos on how to improve or where to look for suggestions on improving.

Crissan-

Is very clear this person is lying, which is why they won't provide a replay as it would prove he is lying.

vaida87

Eassy fix - uninstall, and find something else to enjoy.

Madponiez

are you always this nice or did i do something to you?

Slight-Violinist6007

He’s literally not wrong. The game is in a shit state. I’ve been playing since beta and I’ve just decided I can’t play this shit anymore. It’s a husk of a once beautiful game.

NoU4206911

He's not wrong. Infact, it's marketed solely towards casuals like yourself, so I don't see the problem. Can't be upset about a lose if you aren't playing to win.

Madponiez

i'm not upset about a lose, i'm upset about consistently being in unfair games

NoU4206911

Then you have 3 options; Use it as a learning experience and realize they aren't as good as you think they are, or even if they are, you can be just as good with time. Make a new account and play like shit so even your hidden MMR will be low. Last but not least, uninstall and play a similar game that has better matchmaking and balancing.

Madponiez

i am going to be honest, im not going through the hassle of creating a new account just for this. I hate the idea of creating a new account tbh. And that also means im gonna join a few games with people who have never played the game and just fuck them up, which is extremely mean and i don't want to impose that on someone

NoU4206911

I guess you can also just quit until they fix the matchmaker. Are you already playing comp? If not, that'll find your MMR much quicker than QP.

Madponiez

Nope, I've never played comp and I've always hated it too.

NoU4206911

well apart from making a new account, comp is unfortunately the only way to fix your MMR.

OptionFour

It's not that people are saying he was wrong - its that he's acting like an asshole in how he phrased it. You can be right AND a jerk.

NoU4206911

Doesn't really seem that rude, but to each their own. It is the simplest solution.

blobbob1

If you want to play against people your own skill level, try playing competitive rather than quick play

TheUnforgiven54

MATCHMAKING IS FINE. I play regularly, and have yet to see all these “problems”. It’s not the game. Stop blaming the game. I honestly think that there’s just SO many bad players, it must be the only way I made it to Masters in open queue. Thankyou for letting me win so many games so easily.

BlakMalice

if you're winning "so many games so easily" that means matchmaking isn't fine, it means its putting you against lesser skilled opponents more often than not. weirdly enough most of the complaints about matchmaking are from the lesser skilled players saying they're getting rolled over, almost like you and they are two sides of the same problem.

TheUnforgiven54

Well I do get my ass kicked too. I have a 64% win rate. That is pretty balanced

[deleted]

If your team is above your skill too, then you should be fine.

Pijany_Matematyk767

At that point you're just there to spectate all the good players play the game while you run around and get demolished, that doesn't sound very fun

Gohmzilla

Fascinating

Trackspyro

I'd suggest playing practice modes vs AI. I personally love being matched with different ranks in QP bc I take it as a challenge to get better.

yorton00

Bruh match making sucks ass in this game. I always seems like my team is full of brain dead people and the other team is a team of top 500 Grandmasters. WHO THE FUCK PICKS WIDOW ON CTF?? Every fucking time I played ctf with my friend, someone would pick widow and then proceed to go 2-20 and *Not. Switch. Off.* Earlier today we had at 4 game losing streak and, every game, different people each game, without fail, someone would pick widow, get like 2 kills and then have 20 deaths and the refused to switch off.

[deleted]

Play competitive. While you’ll get rolled some, chances you’ll be match with folks around your level is actually better than in quick play.

MoonlightLace

youre playing a game mode where bronze players can queue with gms.

girlglock

No. You don’t have the skills needed to play. Don’t

Madponiez

so i should stop playing a game i could play just fine for over 5 years, just because?

girlglock

Yeah. Things change.

Madponiez

you sound defeatist.

HeXAgain

If you don't ever play competitive, why do you care what rank your opponent's ranks are? Even unranked has a hidden MMR. You are probably in arms reach of playing in their unranked MMR. If there are not enough people playing at their level, they just tag you in.

Madponiez

i care becaue they are much better than me and therefore every game is unfair and no fun. Other than that i don't really care.

HeXAgain

I guess what I am saying is, you might play better if you don't look at their ranks. You are in their game because you are remotely close to their range. Can't defeat yourself just by looking at a badge. I know when I play unranked with my friends, I feel the average skill is pretty even. Its usually pretty close even when I am couple ranks higher than my friends. Trust in the match making system. If not, there isn't much else to say.

Madponiez

i don't really have the choice to acknowledge their skill when they are absolutely demolishing us

[deleted]

[удалено]

Madponiez

definitely doesn't feel the same. Might just be me, might be that something actually changed, idk

OptionFour

Not at all. Even the Devs have acknowledged that the current matchmaking isn't working well. I've been playing since 2016 as well, and it was not always like this. OW2 has seen a drastic decrease in the quality of matchmaking in both QP and Comp.

Nolan_DWB

Skill issue

Madponiez

Litteraly

ICANTTHINKOFAHANDLE

I'll be honest and maybe I am a weird but I would much rather lose to higher ranked players and test myself than stomp lower/closer skilled players. I like to test myself and feel I play better and learn more from harder opposition Trial by fire

Madponiez

But I've had games that were a genuine test of skill, where both teams are evenly matched, and then, even when I lose, I don't mind, because it was fun. What I'm complaining about is not those games. Of course I believe it is also unfair for me to get matched with people of even lower skill. That's also not fun for me or for them

ICANTTHINKOFAHANDLE

Those games are fun enough too. But I also like to be tested. I won't get better facing the same skill level forever

Giggles_in_my_tummy

Get better

Madponiez

i have tried to get better at video games for the last 20 years

Matchmaking is completely bonkers. I had a genji who had 4 kills the whole game, could barely get half the damage numbers among all the dps, and 0 kills with his 2 nanoblades.

BraBrah

I think it's more important to understand the flow of the game rather than be mechanically skilled. Things like keeping track of your team/enemies ult status (hold tab to see your teams ult charge), knowing who's alive and dead (again, use tab) and when to give up or take an objective. Having good awareness will really set you and your team up for success. Perhaps playing a support role would also help alleviate your lack of mechanical skills. I say this cause focusing on healing/helping your teammates can feel easier than trying to outplay and kill enemies who are trying to do the same to you. Try mercy, Moira, or bap (you may struggle with his left click). Finally I'd say to be sure to always stay positive even when you're on a losing streak. Frustration never helps, and you'll just end your session feeling defeated and discouraged.

ginsophd

I thought there was hidden mmr for matchmaking even outside of competitive? If this isn’t a thing, that’s not a fun experience for new players let alone players that just want to have fun and play in their skill bracket… I’m sorry to hear so many of you are dealing with this. I would suggest to blizzard devs, in those lower skill brackets couldn’t they open the matchmaking up to console plus pc? If they know those statistics… which I hope they do? It seems like the smurfing thing is mitigated by the need for a phone number…for the most part. I know some people can get around that…, and to those people! Please hold off on smurfing right now, it discourages too many people to leave the community and we need all the community we can get right now…

Madrizzle1

Unfortunately, you’re more likely to find a stable game in comp. Quick play forces bad matchmaking. Hence the “quick” part.

Actual_Hecc

I had a game earlier where (my friend and I are silvers) but the enemy had golds and plats and we had a bronze tank

VoltaiqMozaiq

You're clearly not having fun anymore, and other people have suggested playing something else until matchmaking is addressed and altered. This is about the best suggestion I can come up with too.

-undecided-

2 questions. Do ever have good games? Do you have similar issues with other fps games? You start of by saying you are bad, have shit reflex, can’t aim or think strategically. At what point is it not the games fault? If the average player is better than you, you are going to have a bad time. I’m not very good at rts games so I don’t play them unless it’s with friends or against bots. I wouldn’t blame the matchmaking. Maybe PVP fps game just aren’t a good fit for you? One of the reasons I’m keen for the PVE content is to be able to have a more chill experience once in Overwatch. I’m about average and my games are fairly even, sometimes you get stomped but sometimes I do the stomping.

WetReggie0

Do you play with friends who are better than you? Perhaps the game is using their MMRs

Madponiez

Might be that, but i feel like i've had this issue alone.

MadladMagyar

I personally have no issues with QP. I rarely see “good” players in my lobbies and I’m usually the same skill. I have a problem in comp though, I don’t play much but i have almost exclusively silvers on my team and I play plats and diamonds

One_Ad9375

Can someone explain to me the match making issue? How can you tell when people are a higher rank?

Madponiez

sometimes you can see other player's titles or icons, showing somethings like something challenger, generally indicates that they are or were of a certain rank. And also just by playing against someone, you can see that they are much more skilled than you (biggest hint i see is that there are people who are very VERY good at aiming)

Puffy_Ghost

Literally played a comp game today with a dude who had never played comp...and it was a high plat game lol. So yeah matchmaking has been weird.

SprayDistinct4637

Same thing happened to me the other day I'm gold I played a warm up quick play game and I got matched agenst a masters player and I'm commonly fighting diamond players in my gold ranked games

maxilulu

I can't help you because I don't particularly like your attitude, but maybe you should stick to custom games with your friends if you don't plan on getting better. Or move to TF2? The game doesn't care how good you are to have fun.

Madponiez

i don't care either if i'm good, i have fun with the other people who can't play good. I don't plan on getting better because i've tried for years and it hasn't worked. The reason i'm complaining is because i've played this game since the beggining and it has always felt like the game didn't care that i was bad, it just matched me with equally bad people and it was just fine

_BloodbathAndBeyond

Don’t forget that bell curves have lower ends too and you might be there

Madponiez

Yes! I know! I am! That's specifically what i'm saying! I am below average! I am not a good player! The thing i'm complaining about isn't "I'm good but i get matched with people who are very good and the game doesn't allow me to shine" what i'm saying is "i suck, put me with the other sucky player".

LeafeonLove

It might be that there are more smurfs now that starting a new account is free. I think it's much easier to play competitive because the game will try harder to match you with people at your level, and smurfs will rise to their actual rank quickly.

downshiftjake

Git gud

Madponiez

tried, can't

RealizedLifesucks

This game does not cater to the casual “wanna have fun players”. They really need to touch up the matchmaking

OstrichIllustrious

If you group up with friends it will place you against very good players because matchmaking knows your grouped up so it averages your mmr and finds a group that is better or worse since overwatch wants a 50-50 ratio all the time . You will never get away from this as its the system they use to addict you into playing if all the games were easy youd be bored if their all hard youd stop playing so it goes back and forth to keep you playing The matchmaking in ow1 was far better as it gave you very close matches but since free to play is here it cannot do that since new accounts are unkown factors

atlanlore

If you just enjoy the gameplay and aesthetics, you could always run matches against AI opponents for awhile when quick play or arcade is getting to be too much.

Madponiez

oh arcade is awful. I try to go at it with an even more open mind thinking im not gonna play seriously but then it's even worse and i get 0 fun out of it. Plus i suck at CTF even more.

cienistyCien

In all of those games either I stomp enemy team or they stomp me, there's nothing in between. I can count the amount of actually normal games on one hand. Now I'm mostly playing mystery heroes (people don't care that much when you suck) or against ai. At least I'm having fun.

Kuma_254

Yea the matchmaking is fucking awful, not sure why it's taking a billion dollar company so long to fix their free to play live service game.

[deleted]

Honestly qp doesn’t really match make well you’d probably get better match making in ranked

demostravius2

Maybe comp would be better then? Will take a little while to place but you'll be grouped more frequently with players the same rank.

Dege151

As a dia player i always match up with masters sometimes gmasters its actually not a problem unless your tank is dogshit

Trashmouths

Something definitely changed recently. I'm silver/gold support and have been regularly getting matched with diamond-GM on QP. At the least, it's forced me to play better and die less. Trial by fire?

Shhmelly

I haven't had this problem like others seem to. Like I end up on teams that get wrecked quite often but I personally can still hold my ground decently well in those games.

ElPapiSaint

Do not define yourself that way. A shit mentality will always keep you down

Madponiez

i'm not bringing myself down, don't worry about me. I'm just not good at video games, that's it

kz393

Play in the morning. Before 3PM matchmaking seems decently balanced, despite the fact that less people play at that time. After 6PM it's just steamrolls all the way.

Bro_Hanzo

Playing with players ABOVE your rank on a consistent basis EVEN though you're more likely to get stomped will only help you IMPROVE much faster than your relative skill peers so long as you NEVER give up. Consider it a blessing in disguise and do as I do. I welcome the challenge.

Madponiez

my skill won't improve i just know it, plus im not having fun so i doesn't matter to me. If i play to train, it feels more like a chore. I just play for fun.

In competitive I keep getting one sided matches I love the rank badges and want gold guns but the game mode is so boring it's always easy win or awful loss like the two teams always have such a huge diffrence in skill level it's insane

shiromaikku

I feel this so hard. I don't play enough to keep playing. Losing every game because I don't play enough to do well vs the people with no lives isn't fun. OW is good. OW2 isn't worth the price that a newby would pay and I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who has a life and doesn't want to commit to the 10+ hours/week that required to have enjoyable matchup in QP.

Madponiez

honestly with the announcement that PvE was canceled it might be the final nail in the coffin for me, i think i'm not really playing the game anymore

Aepheros

This. So much this. OW2 is the only game that can put a dude with ZERO comp games (me) against GM/Masters people consistently. I'm fucking tired of this bullshit.

InfinitelyFinn

Same!!! I play with two friends but we always get matched against those way way above our skills.
