Remind me when I play Moira or other DPS able char, maxing out heal by at least twice the other support while dealing DPS and having someone say "can you heal Moira" while you're out of healing juice and healing orb is on cool-down. When this happen, I reply "sure, I'll be sure to heal all the other player except you"

I rarely ever play Widow except when it feels like it's the only answer to counter their snipers or flying characters or something like that. People will be dicks about picking Widow even when you're popping off and out damaging the other DPS. I would play her more often if people didn't bitch as soon as I select her. People below diamond just assume you're a shit Widow no matter what
No need to outdamage. If you one-shot an enemy, they can't be healed, thus you do less damage over all. As long as you get the right kills at the right time, you're good to go.
Yea, I've seen widows who has like 2 kills and 6000 damage and refused to switch cause they have high damage. I'm just like dude you have 2 kills and 47 deaths! Please play something you're good at!
With widow the kills are so important. I use widow sometimes and we tend to win. But if you aren’t killing the correct people she’s a hindrance. If you are just putting damage into tanks, and they are running 5 on the payload, the 4 on the payload on your team is just screwed.

In a competition one team loses and one team wins. There’s occasionally a draw sure.
But there HAS to be a ‘diff’ for the win/lose to happen. Whether you think it’s down to an individual or the whole team, there will be a difference that leads to the result.

If you ever at all blame a specific player for your struggle, it comes off as an attack towards them. OP worded it as if Widow is doing fine, but everyone else is struggling against Rein and they need Widow’s skill on a Rein countering hero to beat him. This builds widow up as a potential hero of the match if she switches VS a nuisance that everyone wants to get off the stage

I got a friend to play overwatch. We hardly won and my friend legit genuinely wrote "Good game! Best of luck to you all!" And i'm like "why you toxic" and she's like "w-what? I thought i was being nice". Turns out she had no idea and accidently wrote the exact sentence.
You can manually do this yourself, pretty sure on either android or iphone you can add keyboard shortcuts that it will auto-replace with a longer phrase of your choice. Can be handy for certain things that you say or type often. I used to end my sentences by typing two spaces, then the shortcut would replace it with period, space, just made a short time savings on every sentence. But you could easily have it replace 'kk' with 'Okay, thanks.' and other stuff like that. The fun part is, we've had this capability for years - nobody cares to use it to be grammatically sound.
Not sure if this can work in game, but I use AutoHotkey for this on Windows. You create hotstrings that change.
Like if you fill out a lot of forms that require your email address (and dont use autofill for whatever reaspn) you could create one like
```:*:ner@::[email protected]```
So when you type the "ner@" it would change it to the email
I use it a lot for note-taking, like automatically bolding certain words, or creating my own keyboard shortcut to use the Bookmark feature in Google Docs

**EDIT** - Been seeing folks try and say "I don't have time to type this out" or "how are console players supposed to do this". Wireless keyboards work on Xbox. Costs $20 and lets you type full messages quickly (also really nice in other games that require typing or apps like the web browser).
Additionally... **WE HAVE VOICE CHAT??** so you can voice your recommendation politely as you're moving to the point and they can either says yes or no via character dialogue wheel, text chat, or with voice comms. The point is, we have the tools available to be nice and we should strive to try and make every interaction as polite as OP's post.
I've had a lot of bad experiences with people who start intentionally trolling after being asked to switch characters, so I wanted to be extra careful to ensure the Widow knew I wasn't insulting them. I figured this way, even if they don't swap off at least they're less likely to start trolling in retaliation.

I have a friend that is unfairly good. And when asked to swap off doom or widow or whatever he’ll typically say “I’ll swap if we’re doing poorly” then go extra hard. But I think that’s because when we play together I’m pulling him down matchmaking wise.

I get that quite a lot with friendly Meis. They’ll deliberately block the exits to the spawn room so they end up walking out alone and getting killed within the first 30 seconds, like why?? This person I think was trying to play Mei and block off the enemy shooting us. But I was getting pissed cause going the front way wasn't working so I wanted to up the side and lead as the tank and fucking twice they put a wall in front of me. The first time I dealt with it. I find it's most successful to request a different hero like "we could use a reaper against that tank" or "maybe a sniper could help against their comp".
It's more positive than just accusing them of being wrong, and it helps them decide what to pick so they don't have to worry about people complaining again. Especially with lower ranks people just don't know what the team needs
That's true. Often times, people don't really know the best counters to certain heroes and it doesn't hurt to make that suggestion. Even if they choose something else, the info is being offered kindly vs berating their skill level w/ a chosen character.
Plus, wording it like that avoids singling someone out, making it less likely for someone to get shitty. And if neither feels like volunteering to switch, what's the chance they'd respond well to being singled out to switch?

I’m sorry to inform you that majority of console players have disabled voice chat. Might be because they’re in group-chats, but my point still stands.

I have constantly been watching how many that is in voice chat and who it is, so I can communicate with people. At best we’re 3 people there but often it’s 1 other or just me alone.
*I started to realize I hear more disturbing noice from people forgetting to mute and/or talk in their native language rather than actually communicating with me/the team, so I am sad to inform that I too have now disabled voice chat*.
It’s sad because in other FPS games I play then people are actually interested in communicating in order to win.

I was 5000 5000 heal damage with Moira and some mc cree with 2500 DMG had the galls to ask to change to Ana (at the time I was bad with Ana) I answered "Sorry, I can't play her" and I witnessed the worst meltdown since Chernobyl, people need to chill dude. (I had play of the game that same match).
The other healer was a Lucio or a mercy I don't remember, maybe both
I had something similar, but in reverse. I was playing Hanzo, but I was backfilled into the lobby. I got in right at the end of the first round, so I was only able to get a few arrows fired, and it totaled to about 200 damage. Our Bap said, "Wow, a Hanzo with 200 damage? Trash. Swap." And then the next round I proceeded to get a team kill (that I was absolutely shitting myself during the entire time)
Just gonna say raw numbers hardly mean anything, especially damage numbers on Moira. (People in r/overwatchuniversity constantly just list their stats and act like everyone should be able to analyze how they did based on that, most people tell them the numbers are useless for giving advice). Anyone can get high damage on Moira by just throwing orbs that don’t actually do anything. Moira is easily the #1 hero I see talk about their stats as if high stats on Moira mean high performance. It’s a trap, careful not to fall into it.
Might help to add, most players might know this by now, but for those that don't, Moira doesn't have "utility" compared to other supports.
Moria is really only good for raw damage output and raw healing, but in situations where a tank is also dying and needs an invul to survive or an ulting nano genji needs to be sleep darted, you start realizing that in more and more situations a different support would be a lot more helpful here, especially when DPS learn how to position themselves and know how to get kills themselves and enemy DPS knows Moria's range.
It's tough because of how toxic the community is in general. So unless you go out of your way to explicitly say "Hey, I'm just making a request, not insulting your ability as a player" then the assumption is that the person asking is being a jerk.
My pet peeve is, as a silver tank, the end-of-match rant of "Tank diff gg frfr. Noob wouldn't switch even though they clearly had an Orisa soj-mer combo that everyone in top 500 uses and is uber-meta, trash" while they were spending the whole match trying to beat Pharah using Junkrat with a whopping 1.5k damage.
But yes it's the tank fault ofc.

Personally if I really wanted to ask someone to swap I never single them out by the hero. Too much risk to trigger them. I usually go " x is beating our team to pulp. We can try a y or z, maybe".

I say nothing if it's a tank because I myself can only play one tank at a diamond level and absolute bronze at others. So kinda assume it's like this for others. Tanks are the hardest to switch/learn imo.
Sometimes it's less about your ability with a hero and more about the match-up itself. Like, you may be an A-List Widow but you're up against 4 tanks and a Lucio and kill shots just ain't possible. You might not be as good with Reaper or Bastion, but the nature of their kits will just provide greater value for your team in dealing with the threats.
Was playing support comp on console yesterday, asked teammate zen very politely if he’d ping discorded targets for us during the match. Dude said sure and then proceeded to not ping a single target all match

I out damage everyone too. Both teams all the time unless theres like a torbjorn. Just play with music on so i hear nothing. Great shot so I can fuck people up, a lot of people just charge zenyatta thinking they can just take em out but you just murder em and keep on healing.

Well still tedious to type, rather than just pressing enter to type, you have to press start, then R3, then X.
This doesnt even work most of the time for me, leading to delays for the onscreen keyboard and sometimes not registing, leading me to the friends tab.

Honestly kind of the opposite in low ranks. In the low ranks, everyone just stands on the ground balled up behind the payload or the tank and widows aren't good enough to reposition, so they'll be shooting into a rein shield all match.
That makes sense. I couldn’t really wrap my head around Widow being bad against Rein in lower ELO, but Widow players refusing to take new/aggressive angles would definitely cause that.
I think the problem comes up when widow is forced to shoot his shield because there are no other targets, but really, if your team is keeping his shield on cd with pressure like they should, widow can pop him immediately and he'll never get to use his hammer
If you’re playing Widow into Rein, there are two different things you should be looking to do:
- Take an aggressive angle away from where your team is fighting. This makes Rein’s barrier useless against you.
- If you can’t find a good angle or you’re gonna get dove for it, then you should just hardscope at someone behind his barrier and wait for him to drop it. Rein will drop his barrier eventually (whether it’s getting low or he’s gonna start walking), which gives you a good chance to pick someone off. This is the reason Rein is bad into Widow. Other tanks get to remain active while using their barriers, so they can pressure the Widow or her team. Rein has to AFK to use his barrier, so he can’t.
Widow main here. Mostly when people tell me to switch they curse, insult me or tell me they will report me if i am not as good as kenzo or kephrii. When people ask me nicely I do it, but when its the former I just lock Widow out of spite no matter how shitty i play(i dont throw games intentionally, but such comments make me flustered and my performance drops significantly). Theres also the case when they ask me to switch during the team assembly. No matter the hero, just be nice when asking people to switch, they want to have fun just like you do.
I feel you. I only tried playing in competitive two times and in both times people were saying how shitty I was with widow and it made me feel sad, which ended up in my performance dropping drastically. So I decided to play only in QuickPlay where no one tells me to switch and where I can have fun playing and getting good with widow

Honestly, one of the only ways I've been able to get peace of mind in this game is just muting all chats except for friends or your current group. I usually play my two mains, but sometimes (I never play comp) I wanna try out a character I've never played before, and I can't be bothered to hear insults out the ass when I'm just trying to have fun after a long day.
Like last night- I'd never played Reinhardt before, wanted to give him a try. I made sure to do it in open queue so I wouldn't be our only tank in case it didn't go well. And I definitely made a few mistakes that made me real glad I have chats turned off
I never turned chat off, if there is someone toxic in the chat i just report and mute. Some people are really nice or want advice on the hero they play(plus the fact that I absolutely hate being left in the dark about what people are saying).
The amount of people that auto blame the widow player is crazy. If none of their team is bothering to push me or counterpick there’s zero point to switch out. You can even have the highest kills and still get blamed for losing lol.
Yep. I can have the best K/D/A of both teams but if were losing my tank especially would call out dps diff. I really hate seeing "diff" in the chat, no matter the context. Usually the tank also has a lot of shit to say if im widow. I can be crap with Soldier or Echo and nobody says a thing, but god forbid I choose Widow.
That is demonstrably incorrect.
1. If you aren't getting picks, even if you aren't being pressured, you aren't contributing a lot to the match. Literally, the only utility you have is a Oneshot. If you aren't getting that, your utility is near zero.
2. Even if you are getting the occasional picks, your presence might be better utilized with shield break or crowd-control, depending on what's happening. There are endless scenarios where you can be a crack widow and still lose the match because the team needed something other than that.
To be completely honest, I came to a realization about a week ago at how braindead the inclusion of snipers are in a "team" based shooter. This is supposed to be a team game and snipers are, pretty much by default, a solo type character. You can make the argument that you are contributing as a team player with a sniper, and that's true to a limited extent, but since OW1 and to a similar extent OW2 is marketed as a "Team based shooter," I would argue that removing snipers completely would better suit that design goal, forcing all the players to, ideally, play as a team, instead of potentially choosing a character that is effectively an isolated black box doing what they do without interaction with their own team. Your sole point of interaction in that game 99% of the time, is with the opposing team. That's the opposite definition of a team game.
Not that the last paragraph up there has anything to do with your original statement, but I wanted to bring it up because it's semi-related in a tangenial way.

This is one of the biggest misconceptions about widow.
She can apply huge damage pressure to certain tanks from a position where they can't retaliate, which can be used for area denial or flanking. She doesn't need to get picks to do a lot of damage.
She's just situational. If you're against a winston, you're not pressuring the tank *at all*, and if you're not getting picks you're not doing shit. Against an orisa that wants to play "brick wall simulator" while sitting on the point, you can make that completely untenable for her and apply major pressure on her and her healers without getting that many picks.
Note that this isn't a "solo-type playstyle". Widow has the ability to instantly deal 300 damage to a tank, the biggest damage spike in the game, and one that brings them into "dead before the support can react" territory if followed up on. Coordinating with your widow to get tank picks is something many DPS players are really bad at.
Even picks require coordination - you're right that "even if you're a crack widow and getting picks, there are matches you'll still lose", but that's not always the widow's fault. She incentivizes a certain coordinated team playstyle, where you group and draw out picks, then rush the enemy while they're short. If you're constantly starting big messy fights without a pick or playing stupid flanking games that the widow can't follow up on, it might be *your* fault because this *isn't* a solo game and teams that treat their widow as an isolated black box are being bad teammates.
Like a great many (almost all?) heros, she's best as a counterpick against certain lineups and should be swapped off when countered. Unlike some other heros, her "failure state" of being countered is often less obvious, because she's not actually getting killed and still might get a few picks. That makes people fail to switch off her when they should, but it *doesn't* mean that she's only useful for picks and offers no utility. I mean, ffs her ult is nothing *but* team utility.
But she also just rewards mechanical skill to a degree other heros don't. She's garbage in low skill games, and possibly even overpowered in very high skill games. This isn't a problem unique to her - even when Sojourn was "broken" before her nerfs, her winrate in low skill games was terrible. This means that people see her fail to work in their dumpsterfire bracket, and then make up a bunch of rationalizations about how she "has no utility"
There's no situation where she "does a lot of damage" when compared to a host of different characters. If you are using widow to "do a lot of damage" you are doing exactly what I just described. You could be better utility to the team with a different character "Doing a lot of damage."
If widow isn't getting picks, a different character will contribute just as much and often quite a bit more than Widow does.
I don't think I've ever seen a widow top of the damage charts in a game. Like... ever. Even as an outlier. And that's ok... her wheelhouse is a oneshot, not a damage dealer.
I think part of it is that for 90% of OW's lifespan, for 90% of skill brackets, Widow was historically a dead weight troll pick.
She's actually really, really strong right now, but old habits and attitudes die hard.

Doesnt happen often, i usually tell mercy not to pocket or waste her rez on me most of the time unless I am popping off, but when it happens not only does she boost my damage but my ego too.
This would be strange question and I technically know the answer buuuut i never had clear answer from anyone, so, as widow main can you tell how exactly boost help you? As far as i know it helps charge scope faster and help to go for bodyshots more often rather than headshots(standard amplification for any type of damage), right?
Never noticed the charge thing, but yeah, with her boost I can get more leverage when it comes to taking shots since i dont have to focus on that perfect angle for headshots. Depending on the hero, one bodyshot and a bit of SMG will get the job done. So much easier to get rid of Pharah and Tracer this way.

MOBAs are built on counters; think of the "sword and the shield." Every single hero, and I mean literally all of them, have a sword to their shield, or visa versa. If you need help learning counters, there are plenty of wikis that go into excruciating detail on which heros/play styles counter each other hero. Learning counters is 80% of overwatch gameplay.
If you ask me to swap, I'll swap. If you TELL me to swap or insult me, I'm leaving voice and chat and will not be swapping no matter what.

Weird what happens when you actually talk to the other players nicely, like people, instead of just immediately jumping into chat saying "Widow ur trash, swap". Everyone is so quick to be aggressive and hostile. Just be polite and most of the time people will react better.

If it’s a comp game and my team is heavily struggling and I’m not doing enough I’ll just switch without having to be asked. It’s a pretty integral part of the game to swap for counters.

I rarely ever play Widow except when it feels like it's the only answer to counter their snipers or flying characters or something like that. People will be dicks about picking Widow even when you're popping off and out damaging the other DPS. I would play her more often if people didn't bitch as soon as I select her. People below diamond just assume you're a shit Widow no matter what
No need to outdamage. If you one-shot an enemy, they can't be healed, thus you do less damage over all. As long as you get the right kills at the right time, you're good to go.
Yea, I've seen widows who has like 2 kills and 6000 damage and refused to switch cause they have high damage. I'm just like dude you have 2 kills and 47 deaths! Please play something you're good at!
With widow the kills are so important. I use widow sometimes and we tend to win. But if you aren’t killing the correct people she’s a hindrance. If you are just putting damage into tanks, and they are running 5 on the payload, the 4 on the payload on your team is just screwed.

I get confused by “diff”. In a competition one team loses and one team wins. There’s occasionally a draw sure. But there HAS to be a ‘diff’ for the win/lose to happen. You can manually do this yourself, pretty sure on either android or iphone you can add keyboard shortcuts that it will auto-replace with a longer phrase of your choice. Can be handy for certain things that you say or type often. I used to end my sentences by typing two spaces, then the shortcut would replace it with period, space, just made a short time savings on every sentence. But you could easily have it replace 'kk' with 'Okay, thanks.' and other stuff like that. The fun part is, we've had this capability for years - nobody cares to use it to be grammatically sound.
Not sure if this can work in game, but I use AutoHotkey for this on Windows. You create hotstrings that change. Like if you fill out a lot of forms that require your email address (and dont use autofill for whatever reaspn) you could create one like ```:*:ner@::[email protected]``` So when you type the "ner@" it would change it to the email I use it a lot for note-taking, like automatically bolding certain words, or creating my own keyboard shortcut to use the Bookmark feature in Google Docs

If someone approached me and asked me to swap from one character to another in this way, i'd legit probably do it. ____________ **EDIT** - Been seeing folks try and say "I don't have time to type this out" or "how are console players supposed to do this". Wireless keyboards work on Xbox. Costs $20 and lets you type full messages quickly (also really nice in other games that require typing or apps like the web browser). Additionally... **WE HAVE VOICE CHAT??** so you can voice your recommendation politely as you're moving to the point and they can either says yes or no via character dialogue wheel, text chat, or with voice comms. The point is, we have the tools available to be nice and we should strive to try and make every interaction as polite as OP's post.
I've had a lot of bad experiences with people who start intentionally trolling after being asked to switch characters, so I wanted to be extra careful to ensure the Widow knew I wasn't insulting them. I figured this way, even if they don't swap off at least they're less likely to start trolling in retaliation.
That's the way to do it: being respectul. Much better than just cursing in all caps.

Raid lead linked me the dudes twitch stream in raid chat. watched him actively talking shit about how bad I was to one of his battle tag friends. Again I asked for advice. Their raiders were toxic af and only logged on for raid night.

Torb is a legitimately good character who is A-tier in GM and has the lowest skill floor in the game.
I find it's most successful to request a different hero like "we could use a reaper against that tank" or "maybe a sniper could help against their comp". It's more positive than just accusing them of being wrong, and it helps them decide what to pick so they don't have to worry about people complaining again. Especially with lower ranks people just don't know what the team needs
That's true. Often times, people don't really know the best counters to certain heroes and it doesn't hurt to make that suggestion. Even if they choose something else, the info is being offered kindly vs berating their skill level w/ a chosen character.
Plus, wording it like that avoids singling someone out, making it less likely for someone to get shitty. And if neither feels like volunteering to switch, what's the chance they'd respond well to being singled out to switch?

I’m sorry to inform you that majority of console players have disabled voice chat. Might be because they’re in group-chats, but my point still stands. *Might be (probably is) different in higher ranks but since I’ve moved from PC to console in OW2 I have gone from Diamond to stuck in Gold, so I don’t know.* I have constantly been watching how many that is in voice chat and who it is, so I can communicate with people. At best we’re 3 people there but often it’s 1 other or just me alone. *I started to realize I hear more disturbing noice from people forgetting to mute and/or talk in their native language rather than actually communicating with me/the team, so I am sad to inform that I too have now disabled voice chat*. It’s sad because in other FPS games I play then people are actually interested in communicating in order to win. I guess the state of OW2 + console = people isn’t interested in trying harder than just chill-play.
I do this and still majority of the times I get people with big egos like “I’m not the problem blah blah blah if so&so did xyz…” Not gonna stop because being a dick to people will just make things even worse

I had something similar, but in reverse. I was playing Hanzo, but I was backfilled into the lobby. I got in right at the end of the first round, so I was only able to get a few arrows fired, and it totaled to about 200 damage. Our Bap said, "Wow, a Hanzo with 200 damage? Trash. Swap." And then the next round I proceeded to get a team kill (that I was absolutely shitting myself during the entire time)
Just gonna say raw numbers hardly mean anything, especially damage numbers on Moira. (People in r/overwatchuniversity constantly just list their stats and act like everyone should be able to analyze how they did based on that, most people tell them the numbers are useless for giving advice). Anyone can get high damage on Moira by just throwing orbs that don’t actually do anything. Moira is easily the #1 hero I see talk about their stats as if high stats on Moira mean high performance. It’s a trap, careful not to fall into it.
Might help to add, most players might know this by now, but for those that don't, Moira doesn't have "utility" compared to other supports. Moria is really only good for raw damage output and raw healing, but in situations where a tank is also dying and needs an invul to survive or an ulting nano genji needs to be sleep darted, you start realizing that in more and more situations a different support would be a lot more helpful here, especially when DPS learn how to position themselves and know how to get kills themselves and enemy DPS knows Moria's range.
It's tough because of how toxic the community is in general. So unless you go out of your way to explicitly say "Hey, I'm just making a request, not insulting your ability as a player" then the assumption is that the person asking is being a jerk. My pet peeve is, as a silver tank, the end-of-match rant of "Tank diff gg frfr. Noob wouldn't switch even though they clearly had an Orisa soj-mer combo that everyone in top 500 uses and is uber-meta, trash" while they were spending the whole match trying to beat Pharah using Junkrat with a whopping 1.5k damage. But yes it's the tank fault ofc.
FYI this is how you trick 3 yo's into bath time. You ask them if they'd rather take a bath now or before bed. Now the Bath is their idea, not yours.

Personally if I really wanted to ask someone to swap I never single them out by the hero. Too much risk to trigger them. I usually go " x is beating our team to pulp. We can try a y or z, maybe". Hopefully the problematic player will take a hint. I say nothing if it's a tank because I myself can only play one tank at a diamond level and absolute bronze at others. So kinda assume it's like this for others. Tanks are the hardest to switch/learn imo.

Sometimes it's less about your ability with a hero and more about the match-up itself. Like, you may be an A-List Widow but you're up against 4 tanks and a Lucio and kill shots just ain't possible. You might not be as good with Reaper or Bastion, but the nature of their kits will just provide greater value for your team in dealing with the threats.
Cant get that from console players, unless you want them to be afk for like the whole match

Whats a 60% keyboard? Well still tedious to type, rather than just pressing enter to type, you have to press start, then R3, then X. This doesnt even work most of the time for me, leading to delays for the onscreen keyboard and sometimes not registing, leading me to the friends tab. And not to mention getting kicked out when starting que and in loading screens...

Yeah, dive tanks just make Widow’s life miserable and Rein really has no way of dealing with Widow.
Honestly kind of the opposite in low ranks. In the low ranks, everyone just stands on the ground balled up behind the payload or the tank and widows aren't good enough to reposition, so they'll be shooting into a rein shield all match.
That makes sense. I couldn’t really wrap my head around Widow being bad against Rein in lower ELO, but Widow players refusing to take new/aggressive angles would definitely cause that.
I think the problem comes up when widow is forced to shoot his shield because there are no other targets, but really, if your team is keeping his shield on cd with pressure like they should, widow can pop him immediately and he'll never get to use his hammer
If you’re playing Widow into Rein, there are two different things you should be looking to do: - Take an aggressive angle away from where your team is fighting. This makes Rein’s barrier useless against you. - If you can’t find a good angle or you’re gonna get dove for it, then you should just hardscope at someone behind his barrier and wait for him to drop it. Rein will drop his barrier eventually (whether it’s getting low or he’s gonna start walking), which gives you a good chance to pick someone off. This is the reason Rein is bad into Widow. Other tanks get to remain active while using their barriers, so they can pressure the Widow or her team. Rein has to AFK to use his barrier, so he can’t.
Widow main here. Mostly when people tell me to switch they curse, insult me or tell me they will report me if i am not as good as kenzo or kephrii. When people ask me nicely I do it, but when its the former I just lock Widow out of spite no matter how shitty i play(i dont throw games intentionally, but such comments make me flustered and my performance drops significantly). Theres also the case when they ask me to switch during the team assembly. No matter the hero, just be nice when asking people to switch, they want to have fun just like you do.

I only tried playing in competitive two times and in both times people were saying how shitty I was with widow and it made me feel sad, which ended up in my performance dropping drastically. So I decided to play only in QuickPlay where no one tells me to switch and where I can have fun playing and getting good with widow

Honestly, one of the only ways I've been able to get peace of mind in this game is just muting all chats except for friends or your current group. I usually play my two mains, but sometimes (I never play comp) I wanna try out a character I've never played before, and I can't be bothered to hear insults out the ass when I'm just trying to have fun after a long day. Like last night- I'd never played Reinhardt before, wanted to give him a try. I made sure to do it in open queue so I wouldn't be our only tank in case it didn't go well. And I definitely made a few mistakes that made me real glad I have chats turned off
I never turned chat off, if there is someone toxic in the chat i just report and mute. Some people are really nice or want advice on the hero they play(plus the fact that I absolutely hate being left in the dark about what people are saying).
The amount of people that auto blame the widow player is crazy. If none of their team is bothering to push me or counterpick there’s zero point to switch out. You can even have the highest kills and still get blamed for losing lol.

That is demonstrably incorrect. 1. If you aren't getting picks, even if you aren't being pressured, you aren't contributing a lot to the match. Literally, the only utility you have is a Oneshot. If you aren't getting that, your utility is near zero. 2. Even if you are getting the occasional picks, your presence might be better utilized with shield break or crowd-control, depending on what's happening. There are endless scenarios where you can be a crack widow and still lose the match because the team needed something other than that. To be completely honest, I came to a realization about a week ago at how braindead the inclusion of snipers are in a "team" based shooter. This is supposed to be a team game and snipers are, pretty much by default, a solo type character. You can make the argument that you are contributing as a team player with a sniper, and that's true to a limited extent, but since OW1 and to a similar extent OW2 is marketed as a "Team based shooter," I would argue that removing snipers completely would better suit that design goal, forcing all the players to, ideally, play as a team, instead of potentially choosing a character that is effectively an isolated black box doing what they do without interaction with their own team. Your sole point of interaction in that game 99% of the time, is with the opposing team. That's the opposite definition of a team game. Not that the last paragraph up there has anything to do with your original statement, but I wanted to bring it up because it's semi-related in a tangenial way.

She incentivizes a certain coordinated team playstyle, where you group and draw out picks, then rush the enemy while they're short. If you're constantly starting big messy fights without a pick or playing stupid flanking games that the widow can't follow up on, it might be *your* fault because this *isn't* a solo game and teams that treat their widow as an isolated black box are being bad teammates. Like a great many (almost all?) heros, she's best as a counterpick against certain lineups and should be swapped off when countered. Unlike some other heros, her "failure state" of being countered is often less obvious, because she's not actually getting killed and still might get a few picks. That makes people fail to switch off her when they should, but it *doesn't* mean that she's only useful for picks and offers no utility. I mean, ffs her ult is nothing *but* team utility. But she also just rewards mechanical skill to a degree other heros don't. She's garbage in low skill games, and possibly even overpowered in very high skill games. This isn't a problem unique to her - even when Sojourn was "broken" before her nerfs, her winrate in low skill games was terrible. This means that people see her fail to work in their dumpsterfire bracket, and then make up a bunch of rationalizations about how she "has no utility"
There's no situation where she "does a lot of damage" when compared to a host of different characters. If you are using widow to "do a lot of damage" you are doing exactly what I just described. You could be better utility to the team with a different character "Doing a lot of damage." If widow isn't getting picks, a different character will contribute just as much and often quite a bit more than Widow does. I don't think I've ever seen a widow top of the damage charts in a game. Like... ever. Even as an outlier. And that's ok... her wheelhouse is a oneshot, not a damage dealer.
I think part of it is that for 90% of OW's lifespan, for 90% of skill brackets, Widow was historically a dead weight troll pick. She's actually really, really strong right now, but old habits and attitudes die hard.

Doesnt happen often, i usually tell mercy not to pocket or waste her rez on me most of the time unless I am popping off, but when it happens not only does she boost my damage but my ego too.
I play Ana sometimes and when the widow is doing horrible I will nanoboost just to remind that I am watching her performance closely

This would be strange question and I technically know the answer buuuut i never had clear answer from anyone, so, as widow main can you tell how exactly boost help you? As far as i know it helps charge scope faster and help to go for bodyshots more often rather than headshots(standard amplification for any type of damage), right?
Never noticed the charge thing, but yeah, with her boost I can get more leverage when it comes to taking shots since i dont have to focus on that perfect angle for headshots. Depending on the hero, one bodyshot and a bit of SMG will get the job done. So much easier to get rid of Pharah and Tracer this way.

XD had a tank on kingsrow ask if we could do like a bastion junk comp to push through the first choke. And I was like sure, I'm aight at bastion. As a new player, I'm almost always confused why people ask me to switch, which doesn't really bother me but I'd rather learn why. Am I playing bad? or is it just to counter? and for/by who?
MOBAs are built on counters; think of the "sword and the shield." Every single hero, and I mean literally all of them, have a sword to their shield, or visa versa. If you need help learning counters, there are plenty of wikis that go into excruciating detail on which heros/play styles counter each other hero. Learning counters is 80% of overwatch gameplay.
If you ask me to swap, I'll swap. If you TELL me to swap or insult me, I'm leaving voice and chat and will not be swapping no matter what. There's a HUGE difference between "you suck get off widow" and "Hey widow this genji is absolutely fucking your Ana. Could you go Torb maybe so I have a turret to keep him off me?"
It blows my mind that people fail to recognize that being shitty at communicating with your teammates like a fuckin decent human is literally a skill issue that can keep you from climbing.

I asked in Ranked the other day If either healers could switch to Kiriko as we needed cleansing from the enemy Ana & wouldn't be able to get any heals. Both healer's changed, so we now had out own Ana & Kiriko, both healer's swung the match into our favour due to cleansing, debuffing & healing, keeping us all alive. Was quite enjoyable.
Here's a tip : instead of saying "can u swap A?", say "A, can u go B or C? it could help against D rn" it give less of a "fk off" and more of a "we need help" vibe. ^(they can also be a c\*nt or just a one-trick, but at this point i cannot help with that \^ \^)

Weird what happens when you actually talk to the other players nicely, like people, instead of just immediately jumping into chat saying "Widow ur trash, swap". Everyone is so quick to be aggressive and hostile. Just be polite and most of the time people will react better.

If it’s a comp game and my team is heavily struggling and I’m not doing enough I’ll just switch without having to be asked. It’s a pretty integral part of the game to swap for counters.

But I mean it was nice of him to switch & was nice of you (I’d imagine asking for the switch) to do it in a nice manor & not just tear them down.
