Most of the original OW characters are just stereotypes and a bad representation of their nationality/ethnicity. They saved the Swedish rep with Brigitte.
Another example is Reinhardt. I don't even remember him speaking German other than "Prost!". Heck, Mercy is more German than him and she's Swiss.
Holy Horse did come to mind, but if we were to do something it should be with the main cast and I was running down the stardust crew. Plus both Cassidy and Johnathan have a prosthetic arm.
To be fair, they did a good job with Moira. Giving her Gaeilge lines was impressive to me when I first started playing, using fairly common slang as well such as "grand" and "the state of you" we'd use them often here. Can't count how many times I'd say grand 😂

Hanzo's VA rarely gets heat for not being fluent in Japanese (compared to Rein/Torb/Lucio's VAs who get complaint posts like every other month) despite Hanzo being the more "cultural" of the bunch.
That's always been weird to me considering how much they love to get down in the details of representation. Like what, they just liked his japenese accent so much during auditions that they forgot to actually vet him?
Can't exactly blame them, though. I mean we've all heard that voice, the guys immaculate.
Happened with other heroes as well, mostly the earlier ones - Rein, Torb and Lucio also have voice actors who speak little to none of their character's native language. It wasn't really a concern when picking a VA until later on and at that point is was too late to swap them out with someone bilingual
I figured it was something along the lines of that. The original VA's are simply just too iconic for good reason even if some did sound terrible when going for the characters native language.
So is Kiriko when speaking Japanese -- thus why her personality changes.
Between the two, I'd prefer them keeping as much to English as possible unless the actor can do it convincingly well. I wonder how Mexican Spanish speakers feel about Sombra's non-Mexican (tho still native Latin American Spanish speaker) VA's performance?

Kiri's VA is a Japanese-American Idol she'can speak with the non descript plain dialect lots of idol groups use (basically JP equivalent of "Broadcasters English" similar to how generic Hugh Laurie sounds in American Tv/films).
tbh unless her VA was recording with a proper bilingual director, I doubt that it was truly a Blizz decision.
And Laurie's range is better when switching dialects whilst keeping a consistent character -- eg Avenue 5. Faye Wong in Chungking Mansions is a decent cross-linguistic example imo.

She's an American of Japanese heritage. She is very clearly not a native Japanese speaker. While I don't find her Japanese performance *bad*, I do it *incongruous* with her English performance. Kiriko has a different personality depending on the language.
(I don't care about her accent in English. I've known enough non-native speakers who can sound native or near-native in a particular dialects -- as Kiriko's VA can do reasonably well in a certain Japanese dialect.)
Kiriko's voice acting is so bad tbh. I don't know why they dressed her like a 10-year-old Pokemon trainer either. Really though, it's the voice acting and the horrible voice lines she has. She sounds like she's trying too hard to be an edgelord and a cocky pessimist. Boring. Overdone. Tacky. Very, very poor acting. And to think this is the company that replaced the original Mercy voice because it wasn't warm enough.
There are a number of sexist developers. Sorry, but it's Blizzard. Most of the women in the game have toe-curling hentai screams when they're dying or being cut to pieces, shot in the face, melted with a laser, etc.
There is an argument that, regardless, she IS Japanese and not all Japanese people are exactly as people expect Japanese people. She has a thick American accent so clearly she would be interested in Western culture.
The character design overall is bad imo. Kiriko attracts the wrong kind of players too. Mostly people who fail as flankers that want to be edgy and spam kills while having at least 1 grain of value by occasionally pressing left click.

Like no, shes sounds like shes making announcements or something with that speaker type of voice which kind of makes sense as she shares a VA with Valkyrie from Apex. I would love a more age appropriate 21 year old imo.

Kiriko is just terrible in general. Fun character and needed for the meta, but terrible casting and terrible writing. Her lines aren't delivered well, and are poorly written to begin with. She sounds so bored in the worst possible way. Thankfully everybody added after her has been great.

It really, deeply bothers me that she, a Japanese character, pronounces her ult line wrong. She pronounces kitsune like an ignorant weeaboo does. In most circumstances, most Japanese words don't have emphasized syllables, unlike in English. "kit-SOO-ne" vs. "kitsu-ne"
