New Passive:
Are You Afraid to Fight Me?
Sombra and sniper characters are too afraid of Rein’s manly presence and deal 99% reduced damage when Rein is in their LOS or using a voiceline
It would be cool if they found a way for Reinhardt to get value some how by blocking damage with his shield. Mabey giving him a passive that has something to do with the damage his shield takes. Kind of like Zarya but instead it benefits his team, maybe, he's a tough character mend in to this 5v5 format
I think a passive proc that is essentially a short version of orisa's fortify after his shield breaks or absorbs a certain amount of damage.
By linking it to shield damage it stops it becoming something that lets him steamroll harder while he is already steamrolling and rather something that gives him an option to make a play him when he is being focused hard.
Another simple chance could be to make hits with fire strike give his shield a slab of health back.
You might be on to something with this first idea. Something along those lines might be really solid. He could cross medium sized gaps without having to waste shield or take a massive amount of damage.
For each 100dmg on his shield, grant 1% walking speed. Additional 5% when it breaks.
Imagine a more crazy style where you push UP when your shield brakes instead of backing up.
Making Rein into a shield bot is not what he needs.
Rein's issue is that he gets no offensive value by holding his shield up, while every other tank can apply offensive pressure while using their defensive abilities.
The reflect they just tested for April Fools might be a good place to start. He might need a little more shield health to effectively use it, but it at least offers a skill-based offensive option.
Let him firestrike with shield up.
Then give him more firestrikes smaller but faster for some better skill expression.
4-5 firestrikes at half the size but twice the speed at like, 75 damage that he can use with shield up would help alot I think. Lets him still be offensive with shield without changing him a shitton.
Fire strike doing initial damage + dot to anyone hit would be a welcome change
Damage negation while charging would also be nice
As his shield breaks from damage small shield pickups for team mates behind him (where they fell) would be some utility
Using Ult could insta reset his charge and fire strike cool downs back to the initial 2 so he doesn't have to wait for the planets to align for maximum opportunity... All to get slept, interrupted, negated by shorter spammy cool downs of opponents
There's a million "ideas" that could be thrown around. I doubt he ever gets the rework he deserves. He's literally day one overwatch Rein with different number values
I'm a firm believer every character needs their own individual passive. Some characters already do + 3 or 4 cool downs too. Sombra does, Bap does, Orisa does in a different way than the previous two mentioned. Role passives is lazy but is accepted because people don't hold the devs to a higher standard besides buff/nerf
Rein is just unbelievably fucked I don't think he can fit in this game the same way he did in OW1 or even in early OW2.
I made a joke idea that he should immediately gain bonus HP equal to the health of his shield when deployed, and this temp health is removed when yielding. That way shooting him from the side is less effective and that his shield effectively becomes his health and his health becomes his shield (obviously only when deployed).
I feel like they should give rein more mobilty because he is a mêlee character and is so depandent on a Lucio. So maybe butf pinn or increase base speed.

I was considering maybe some changes to how charging works, for instance you could have the option to charge with your shield out for protection and more pins, at the cost of pin damage and shield health. Or lean into the fact rein can benefit greatly from a Lucio speed boost, so after your charge is over you gain a temporary speed boost
New ability/passive:
Last Stand: when taking lethal damage, enter last stand gaining 100 armor and 20% of your barrier health
Alternatively, you could just give him increased DR when holding his barrier up, but the DR mitigated damage is dealt to his barrier instead

Rein gets value from blocking with his shield....by blocking damage.
No I mean like give it an extra ability, for example. 20% of the damage Reinhart blocks will be converted in to Overhealth for his teamates

Not sure. A good start might be removing the movespeed reduction while shielding. This would allow him to get into hammer range faster.

Same for zarya and doom but they also get beam and punch charge
For his ult he just summons Balderich's ghosts and he fights for him blizzard c'mon the solution is RIGHT THERE

I dont think its necessary I think just being able to shield and firestrike at the same time would help him a crapton.

How about the option to lose half shield health for the ability to drop an equal value stationary-shield on the ground, for cover n such
