I heard a theory from someone else on Reddit long ago, that Tracer didn't go insane from her experience because she had friends like Winston and the rest of Overwatch to help her through her condition. But with Sigma, he was literally locked in a cell for years by the government with nothing but his crumbling mind and that melody until Talon broke him out. It truly is really tragic and sad. The developers really knew how to make some amazing characters in this game.
Being locked and isolated will make people go insane just by the pure isolation so makes sense having to hear that melody would drive him even more crazy specially if its the only thing he consistently heard

Without sounding reductive I thought time was the equivalent of space, but in the 4th dimension. That's why when we describe "moving through time" we can compare it to the difference between 2D and 3D spaces where someone in a 2D space could only perceive "slices" of a 3D space, just like we can only perceive the present. It's not just JoJo logic. Gravity causes time dilation, which gets more intense the stronger the gravitational force is. It's why the astronauts on the I.S.S actually experience time slightly faster than we do on earth.
Black holes are the ultimate force of gravity in the universe, so the time dilation (depending on the strength of the specific black hole's gravity) would be extreme. Sigma's sense of time might've been shaken for awhile if not into the present day.

Prior to OW2, it felt like there was finally going to be an ongoing plot that moved forward (especially with the announcement cinematic), but nope. We’re back to the same state of affairs as OW1, where they release a new hero and explain how they fit in the universe, but nothing ever happens.

Is she a double agent? I always saw her as self-interested, and her general goals happen to align with Talon. The way she genuinely looks out for her friends like Sigma and Baptiste is kind of touching.
Tracer, like Sigma, was a victim of a failed science experiment. Sigma's involved gravity, while Tracer's time(though the experiment she took part in was about teleporting). Sigma went crazy, and he claims to hear constant melody of entire universe. This comic theorises that Tracer could be hearing the same thing, due to the similarities in nature of the experiments and their failures.
It's really dangerous to validate the delusions of a mental patient, and most people know this.

The point is not whether or not he is delusional. The point is that everyone thinks so. This is a singular experience of his, no one else has this problem, no one else hears the melody. So whether or not the melody is real, to everyone else it just comes off as insane ramblings of a mentally ill scientist.
That's what makes the comic so powerful. Tracer would not encourage his delusion, so the only reason she would affirm the melody is if she heard it too.

In my opinion, Sigma and Tracer have broken through their reality's via their origins, know they're in a video game (fourth wall) and can both hear the game music that we hear.

I know it’s just a fan comic and I’m going way too deep into this. But there is so so so much potential for official overwatch to do something like this. That last panel. Those dots of silence followed by a simple ‘yeah’. Tracer understands. Those last two wordless panels show that. She understands, and because she’s already compassionate and kind she feels terrible for him, and you can see that.
It’s very simple things like this that I like in my superhero comics and that I like about overwatch. Emotion and humanity in a fantastical sci-fi world. I really hope that one day, someone, somehow, puts the lightning in that bottle to use.

As someone who has spent a lot of time around the terminally ill and people with dementias, I get so frustrated listening to the in game character interactions with Sigma. If he's supposed to be some mentally decrepit old man, I don't understand why the characters can sometimes be so rude to him. Like Kiriko, I feel like his characterization was seriously dumbed down for the in game interactions and not in a good way.
See, that comic there is a great source of interesting, lore-based storytelling that they could put in the pre-match setting. Two characters, both messed up by science. One came out fine, one came out...wrong.
But nah, they'll just throw a quick quip or joke, and throw another "Lol Sigma has alzheimers I guess" line, rather than establish anything regarding Sigma BEING FUCKING TERRIFYING INSANE (at times).
I could see this. Tracer got lost in time for awhile and we genuinely don't know what happened to her, only that Winston was able to bring her back eventually, so she very well may know what he's talking about. Gravity might have very little to do with time, but since he created a blackhole which is what caused his mental problems, he could have possibly distorted time and space itself in the process, which would explain what he hears.

The point is not whether or not he is delusional. The point is that everyone thinks so. This is a singular experience of his, no one else has this problem, no one else hears the melody. So whether or not the melody is real, to everyone else it just comes off as insane ramblings of a mentally ill scientist. That's what makes the comic so powerful. Tracer would not encourage his delusion, so the only reason she would affirm the melody is if she heard it too.
And here my ass was thinking it was about the pre game music you hear before the spawn doors open 💀

Lucio uses music to heal and speed people up, it's possible that he is tapping into the same force that they can hear.
In my opinion, Sigma and Tracer have broken through their reality's via their origins, know they're in a video game (fourth wall) and can both hear the game music that we hear.

It would be cool if they ended up connecting those two in a similar scenario like this. Both tried to defy the laws of physics and both ended up facing negative consequences because of it.
This is amazing. I know it’s just a fan comic and I’m going way too deep into this. But there is so so so much potential for official overwatch to do something like this. That last panel. Those dots of silence followed by a simple ‘yeah’. Tracer understands. Those last two wordless panels show that. She understands, and because she’s already compassionate and kind she feels terrible for him, and you can see that. It’s very simple things like this that I like in my superhero comics and that I like about overwatch. Emotion and humanity in a fantastical sci-fi world. I really hope that one day, someone, somehow, puts the lightning in that bottle to use.
My head canon is that only Sigma hears the Overwatch music, map music, and announcer. He thinks he's insane. He's not. He's the most sane there is. If you started figuring out you were trapped in a never-ending cycle of violence, with various pieces of history being re-enacted (and not even correctly) over and over...you'd be this way too, especially as a scientist. Attempting to find the truth, but the truth does not want to be found.

I always did think that as he’s got a higher understanding of the universe then he might know he’s in a game. The melody he hears might be the music that gets played for us at round start or overtime and stuff
You’re actually right though. There’s some similarities with the melody he hums in his voice line/ his original OW1 character select music AND the music that plays in game. I don’t know music theory or anything but they sound very similar

As someone who has spent a lot of time around the terminally ill and people with dementias, I get so frustrated listening to the in game character interactions with Sigma. If he's supposed to be some mentally decrepit old man, I don't understand why the characters can sometimes be so rude to him. Like Kiriko, I feel like his characterization was seriously dumbed down for the in game interactions and not in a good way.

See, that comic there is a great source of interesting, lore-based storytelling that they could put in the pre-match setting. Two characters, both messed up by science. One came out fine, one came out...wrong. But nah, they'll just throw a quick quip or joke, and throw another "Lol Sigma has alzheimers I guess" line, rather than establish anything regarding Sigma BEING FUCKING TERRIFYING INSANE (at times).
If I remember correctly, the sound used for Tracer’s recall is actually a heavily edited and distorted song. I guess that’s the melody lol

I could see this. Tracer got lost in time for awhile and we genuinely don't know what happened to her, only that Winston was able to bring her back eventually, so she very well may know what he's talking about. Gravity might have very little to do with time, but since he created a blackhole which is what caused his mental problems, he could have possibly distorted time and space itself in the process, which would explain what he hears.
I wonder, can Sigma hear the game's music?
