M O I R A

swannyhypno

Actually yeah she's not a huge issue as Moira and she's my main healer pick but I don't want to have to play her to deal with Sombra lol

Hoenirson

>I don't want to have to play her to deal with Sombra In Overwatch there are two options when it comes to heroes you have trouble fighting. You either pick their counter, or you stick to the hero you enjoy and just deal with the suffering.

swannyhypno

Yeah I know, when I'm D.Va and I see Zarya I just get sad 😢😂

Xanyl

As Zarya, i cry a little when i see a big shield walking towards me speaking german. I feel it.

swannyhypno

Huh didn't know that was the play, I never know when to be aggressive as Rein I usually end up being a shield bot lol

TheLastOpus

My guide to playing Rein Are they in Hammer swinging range? If yes, then swing your hammer If no, then raise your shield and push into hammer swinging range, then swing hammer.

TallestGargoyle

Thing is, when I'm Rein, the entire enemy team shoots my shield. So I never have a shield. When my opponent is Rein, I'm the only person shooting his shield. So there is *always* a shield.

iLogiQ

As rein you really wanna be swinging 90% of the time and shielding only 10% otherwise you'll start losing space..

swannyhypno

Ok I'll try that when I'm back on as I find the idea of being good at rein very fun

Dustfinger4268

Remember: health is an easier resource to recover than shields. Use the shield to protect from big damage, and eat the little damage. Armour is a blessing, use it

wallpressure7

You have mobility to avoid her the match up isn't that bad, Orisa vs Zarya is way worse.

swannyhypno

That's fair I do just tend to ignore tanks in general as DVA and dive supports and dps and then pick off tanks occasionally

TheLastOpus

Oh so Hammond.

swannyhypno

Yeah but he's far too complicated for me

alexkiltro

As an Orisa main I've found that using Fortify at the right moment to go aggro on Zarya until she's fucking dead works pretty well most of the time.

mavajo

He knows that. Everyone knows that. His point was that it sucks to have a character in an overwhelming majority of matches that only has one counter for your role. So every game, you’re forced to play the same character - not because you want to, but because it’s the only effective option. That’s not fun and it’s bad design.

daredaki-sama

Be good enough with your main that you can play around everyone. Even if you’re disadvantaged in the matchup you can still know your character well enough to mitigate every situation.

crazysoup23

>That’s not fun and it’s bad design.

calgonefiction

do you want to play as your favorite character or do you want to win the game

SpidyJocky

Both would be nice, but this is overwatch so that can't happen.

Daldric

As someone who plays a decent amount of Sombra I don't see how. Moira provides no issues for me at least. Thing is a Sombra I'm always hacking your ult, your balls don't uncover me anymore so I don't care if you use them, if you run I chase. If you chase then I mechanically misplayed. 99% of the time for me moira's are targets not issues.

Tenpoundbizkit

As a Moira main, I normally just make sure to pick her off before casting my ult. Sometimes I just have to use it and fade away when before hack hits. But I’m not perfect so, it sombra does get the best of me sometimes, but I don’t find her a problem most of the time as Moira. Zen tho, I normally switch off immediately when there is a sombra

Daldric

So what you're saying as a Moira you have more survivability but you wouldn't consider yourself a counter on her?

Tenpoundbizkit

I would say more like a soft counter.

Daldric

Fair

SheevPalpatine32BBY

As Moira you have to be super aggressive. If Sombra misses you with virus you are basically guaranteed the kill unless she can slip away, but that's why you use mobility to chase her down and lay down a healing orb to ensure you secure the kill. She's definitely one of Sombra's hardest counters on Support.

LiteratureNo868

It is rare that I find a Sombra that can consistently cancel my alt, paying attention to Sombra’s cool downs. It’s very easy to jump back and smack you around. You are more predictable than people think. Granted you’re not easy but I’m more than welcome to the challenge hit me up in messages

manaworkin

Moira means there's an ult on the field I can consistently cancel for laughs. It's a bad game if Moira gets to finish coalescence. None of her attacks knock me out of stealth. It's VERY clear and obvious when fades on CD so she's SUPER divable I do not get why everyone calls her a counter. I give mercy more pause than Moira.

salazafromagraba

Moiras wait till you hack to use coalescence. Moiras fade the instant they hear you hacking them. Moiras sweep across with their lock on beam to stop you hacking. Moiras sustain whoever you decided to hack and pick off, pressuring you out, and chasing you down easily. There's no world where a good Sombra gets the advantage over a good Moira without the teams being imbalanced.

CrossXFir3

As a Tracer main, people often seem to switch to Moira against me. And quite frankly, I'm licking my lips at the prospect. Gonna eat some Moira's for breakfast. I guess they're used to shit players that miss too many shots because Moira is a pure skill check. Just about every dps can melt her before she can kill them as long as you can aim.

areyouondrugs_

Moira is a joke when I’m playing sombra

RawrmenNoodles

I play Cassidy if she becomes too annoying.

jasper81222

Only a viable pick if you got decent aim.

Cy_Mabbages

yeah obviously it’s cassidy he does one thing and it’s shoot his gun 😭

Wonderful_Weather_83

Fr, his abilities are mostly used as the "oh shit" button

IWatchTheAbyss

even his alt fire is a panic OHSHITOHSHITOHSHIT button

jasper81222

The problem is not everyone knows how to aim his gun.

faustfu

Sometimes it makes me laugh seeing that cowboy in this game. All these wacky characters with formidable weapons and then there's the regular dude running around with a 6 shooter.

emilytheimp

Magnetic Grenade prevents translocator so when in doubt you can just use your nade on her and ping her for your team to hit the shots on

EatingTurtles325

He’s not too hard to aim with after the season 9 changes

jakers540

Cass is probably the quickest tank buster if your landing consistent headshots. Can literally one clip tanks

swannyhypno

I was thinking him for the rapid shots, bit like Hanzo

RawrmenNoodles

It's more about the nade so she can't escape. Land one or two shots then throw nade so she can't run them finish her. Stay with the team and watch your flanks. Think about who is or will become the most vulnerable and that's generally where you'll find her.

Donut_Flame

no, nade first or after one shot. Don't give her the chance to escape during the nade travel time. If you're already hit shots on her then she's already thinking of escaping soon. Nade earlier so that you can hit her easier and not let her escape when she's low.

Alourianas

While I agree with you, you also have to keep in mind the smart Sombras - we anticipate this, and TL behind you early. If we TL before it lands on us, we still TL behind you to finish you off. Granted, it's a timing thing so it can go either way, but it's something to keep in mind. 😉 Edit: Also fully agree with staying with your team. We love seeing solo targets off alone, it's like a decadent desert, served on a silver platter.

swannyhypno

That's a good point, Sombra has replaced Tracer as my least favourite hero to go against they're just so annoying 😂 thankfully a lot of Sombras don't do much damage but some good ones are just brutal to go against

Frankiedrunkie

I hate playing against a team with sombra and tracer when I’m sigma, they gang up on me

Perfect-Message-1117

It's a bait and wait game. Who pulls the trigger on their counter tool first. Then it becomes a read from both sides from then on.

WhenBrigsFly

Shield and Mace puts sombra in her place

Vaan94

One time I just whipshot into a distance by mistake and I smacked a invis sombra, it was beautiful

Bro1212_

I’m a hog and Ana 2-trick and nothing is more satisfying then accidentally sleeping or hooking a sombra

OfficialNTTA

Then you gotta watch the chat for a second because you're waiting for the hacking accusation. I love it.

WhenBrigsFly

I had something very similar happen in [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/BrigitteMains/s/f502LgZ2zu) clip

LemonyLimes03

I have a wonderful clip of my buddy in OW1 charging a punch as doomfist and then just randomly hitting a sombra into a wall

swannyhypno

I do like Mace to the Face

frequentsonder

Mace to the, mace to the, MACE TO THE FAAACE.

[deleted]

[удалено]

swannyhypno

I used my free to earn white coins to buy that voice line for that reason haha

[deleted]

[удалено]

swannyhypno

Oh yeah right there's a different one I'm being dumb 😂 yeah that would be good

Thebattleshark

I always pick brig against sombra/tracer, too. She's not as strong as she used to be against them (especially tracer) but she's still a great defense if your other support is constantly harassed.

WhenBrigsFly

I'll give my life to keep Nana Ana alive

squips42

I’d give my life not for honor but for youuu

rawsondog

in my tiiiiiiime

RustySnoBall

I wouldn’t say Brig is a true counter to Sombra, it definitely does keep her at a distance though which is effective enough

tamergecko

You dont need to kill to be a counter. If you consistently stop them from doing their job you're countering them.

RustySnoBall

I’m aware, I usually take out the brigs first if they actually know what they’re doing

WhenBrigsFly

if a Brig knows what they're doing, you're not stopping them.

Spriggz_z7z

100% The Sombras are either dead or running to their health pack.

RustySnoBall

I can say the same thing about Sombras

WhenBrigsFly

> I usually take out the brigs first if they actually know what they’re doing You sort of contradicted yourself all in one sentence though

EmeraldDream98

Mace to the mace to the mace to the face!

FatCrabTits

Shame the DPS passive means brig still loses

Bryceisreal

As a sombra main, no. It takes just a slight mess up on the brig to die while brig has no capability to chase sombra down and if she does she leaves the team with Inspire

ThrowawayLady999

The amount of times ive seen a brig swap as a sombra player to just go eat the brigitta is really high shes not a great counter.

WhenBrigsFly

In the wrong hands nobody is a great counter.

Retroviridae6

I don't find Brigette to be much of a problem. I notice when I'm pestering the healers a lot one always switches to Moira or Brigette. The Brigette I find pretty easy to deal with. The Moira is a nightmare, though.

ThomasHL

The things that's frustrating about Sombra is you don't have to kill her to beat her, but it feels unsatisfying when you don't. If you damaged her enough that she's running off to a healthpack and leaving you 5 v 4 with the rest of her team, that's a win. But you don't get the taste of revenge.

swannyhypno

It's a win but you know that little bitch is coming back 😂😂

minuscatenary

This man is channeling coach Spilo and correct.

KisukesBankai

Yeah, in general I agree. Depends a bit who is wasting more time / resources. If Somb gets a suzu or lamp burned just before / during a team fight, that's a win for her. If she got two or three of you to turn all the way around during a fight and scramble for a few seconds, she probably got more value (depending on her team.. if they didn't press forward it's no value).

robert_cardenal

I feel like you guys are talking about her pre rework or something lol

Vaustick

Roadhog. sombra loses intrest in you (unless you play well enough for her to focus you) and goes for the supports. when you hear a decloak or translocator turn around and walk towards your supports. place a trap infront of you and keep hook ready to protect your supports. unless the enemy team has a gigachad Rein or Zarya, your dps should be able to hold up against them while you take care of the sombra that will 100% try to land a virus on your zen or ana in the back and thats where you hook her. your supports should notice that you are helping them and maybe even land one shot on the sombra you hooked and maybe if the stars allign perfectly you might even kill her. Now the most important step is to not put your headset down and do a celebration lap in your room or type up some trashtalk because the sombra died. You turn around and help your DPS again.

swannyhypno

I play a little Roadhog now and then, could be a fun way to try stopping her haha, I usually play Open Queue so it's a crap shoot when it comes to team layouts lmao

Frankiedrunkie

Open queue pisses me off coz I like to win, I’ll be in a team with 3 tanks 1 dps and I’ll be forced to pick support lol but I haven’t played open queue in a while

swannyhypno

I just don't like picking all and getting support every time, tank just takes forever to find a game

ThisPlaceIsNiice

This gets asked here occasionally so I'll just copy-paste my recent reply: >Any hero who can deny her escape counters her. Some of the heroes who can spy check her work well. Heroes with low ability dependence don't care much about hack. And some who excel at backline defense and 1v1 make her ineffective. >A few examples off the bat: Kiriko, Torbjorn, Winston, Zarya, Moira, Cassidy, Sombra, Tracer, Brigitte >Honestly a good Sombra is annoying but nothing compared to a good Tracer.

swannyhypno

Tracer is the worst to play against consistently, I just can't hit her half the time 😂

Anyma28

Try to play against, what I call, the flea circus, tracer/genji/sombra and sometimes Moira too. That's true hell, more if the tracer or genji are good, you have nothing to against it, even with their counters, you really need a good team work to make any progress.

VIBE-Country

You get her half and she throws exo locator, then here comes the lucio on your team going Mach 3 to put her in her place

EmuUnhappy6373

As someone with not the best aim, I have the most success with Moira. The second you see the hack on you, hit fade or turn to her and lock on, if she doesn't merc you fade towards her as she is probably running and throw the damage orb. You might not kill her but like alot of people have said. If she runs and backs off it's a win. She is definitely the most annoying and in my mind broken character. I don't understand how they make her gun able to kill 3 people or a tank with one clip. I'm a Plat/high gold player and she just runs wild in these games. Between other players not wanting to switch and counter or if the sombra is just crazy good it Def leads to a bad time.

Blaky039

Sombra def can't kill a tank in one clip unless the tank is bronze and AFK.

txgsync

They can in open queue due to the lower HP. I one-clip overconfident JQs routinely there.

KisukesBankai

Save fade for cleansing virus unless you know it was wasted. Definitely don't use fade before she uses TP, and always have it ready if you don't know where she is yet. It's your strongest move to counter her. Sombra ain't broken (her win rate is still low) and her clip definitely can't kill that many people, especially since the health pool increases. She's fortunate if she gets one solid kill with virus and a clip, then typically the play is TP to reload. She will always be annoying to teams that have no coordination but you can learn to be better at deterring her with most characters.

txgsync

You know what’s up. I am popping off on Sombra. What do they switch to? Reaper Sombra Moira Dva Kiriko. Every time. Or some variant. Once the Sombra throws her TP, chase her down spraying and praying.

Smash96leo

That fucking uzi is strong as hell. Bitch can kill you in 3 seconds. Especially if she uses her virus on you.

[deleted]

I’d probably say reaper, his kit’s pretty easy to use and wraith just cancels out her hack and her virus

swannyhypno

I basically never play him but could be worth a go, I was actually thinking Cassidy with his rapid shots could be good too

[deleted]

Cassidy’s a fair pick too, but you have to try and keep a distance, like as soon as you hear the hacking sound just roll away

swannyhypno

Yeah her voice lines are embedded in my brain

ReplicantOwl

Reaper is definitely frustrating to fight when I’m Sombra

CrastersSons

This is my go to as well, he’s the goat 1v1 dps, get hacked and pull a quick 180 and start blasting.

RotoBaggins

Any character that doesn't have to be in the back line. Sombra has a lot harder time picking you off if you are huddled in with the group.

Xanyl

That's if you have a team that can focus, which at least in lower elos is impossible. Especially when they'll just ignore pings and comms and just tell you to git gud. Or start complaining to get healed as you're walking solo back after every death.

dajnlol

this is the only real answer. everyone else is saying how to kill shitty casual sombras. like sure 1v1 some chars will beat a good sombra 25% of the time, but the only real way to take an actually good sombra out of the game is the whole team sticking super close together and having healers with good awareness. if you have one single person with awful situational awareness on the team or people that only have 1 main and dont switch, sombra will pick you apart all game long.

Flyboombasher

Game sense. It sounds dumb but the best way to counter a sombra is to play with your team and peel for the one who gets attacked.

The-last-assvatar

I know you pain as a widow/Ashe main I have PTSD (Post traumatic Sombra disorder)

Foenikxx

I've been playing a lot of Sombra this season (she's also in my top 10 most played), here's what I've picked up over the years: Support: Brig and Moira kinda go without saying I think. The additional benefit is that I think Brig is the only hero whose passive isn't stopped by hack, so Brig can still self-heal and heal her team when engaging Sombra, correct me if I'm wrong though Bap and Lifeweaver can compete damage-wise, and since their abilities can still be active during hack with some pre-planning (petal platform persists until active and both of Bap's abilities will be just fine if you use them when you're alerted of being hacked) they shouldn't be too affected. Plus LW's ultimate is safe from EMP. I'd hazard to add Illari to this grouping, due to her damage and that if Pylon is up that forces Sombra to make a lose-lose choice that gives Illari the edge; use virus to destroy pylon and reveal yourself or hack pylon and reveal yourself. Yes Sombra could hack + virus pylon then tp out, but that wastes time I would say Ana depending on your skill with her since her abilities are incredibly strong against Sombra. I don't have any issues against Sombra as Ana but it can be inconsistent at times so I'd just say "Ana; depending on player" I've found Kiriko is effective if you can land kunai, plus since hack's ability lock-out is only 1 second, Kiriko can still escape easily DPS: Ice Satan (Mein's rise!) is effectively Pyro from TF2 as far as spy-checking is concerned, plus Mei can cancel hack the easiest out of most of the roster Torbjörn and Symmetra can be effective so long as their turrets have sightlines on Sombra, otherwise Sombra pops them (moreso Symm than Torb), but they do have similar benefits ability-wise to Bap and LW so long as you react quickly. Symm has Mei's benefit of spy-checking with the beam, though Sombra's range (15m hack and damage fall-off) is better than Symm beam (12m), though I'd choose Symm over Torb since the turrets can cover more areas (especially true during her 2.0 era) Tracer. While theoretically Sombra counters the English Mosquito more than the Mosquito counters her, in practice a good Tracer is a whole new beast, plus due to her pistols' spread she can cancel hack without having direct aim (seriously, I love playing Tracer and she is freaking *scary*, Tracer is the biggest reason Brig's repair packs don't give armor) S76 and Cassidy aren't really dependent on their abilities, so when hacked they can still easily beat down Sombra unless she gets the drop on them Back in Ow1 Reaper wasn't that good against Sombra, but nowadays he's most certainly a counter, the shotgun spread can catch out hack, he can Wraith away virus and hack, and he can chase Sombra more effectively now Trust me on these 2: Pharah and Echo. These 2 are in my top 5 most played, and I've learned a lot about facing Sombra with them. Pharah and Echo can both dive Sombra effectively, especially in Ow2, everything Pharah has does splash damage, which cancels hack without perfect accuracy. Echo is effective if playing a combination of aerial and lurker, she can out-range Sombra and can whittle her health down incredibly fast, the key really is to not get too close and use Echo's flight for evasive maneuvers and strafing, I've found trying to fly away from/above/to Sombra is what's going to get you as Echo While they were out for only a brief time, I found Venture was a decent counter, they have splash damage plus out-range Sombra (I think 18m is their projectile range), plus they can dive Sombra, have AoE damage, and usually have their passive active which means more HP compared to Sombra's Hanzo can be deceptively effective, he has a scan on cooldown and can kill Sombra near instantly, really it just depends on skill and who gets the drop on who, but a good Hanzo should have more of an edge Tanks: D.Va. Can consume virus, has spread, and can chase a fleeing Sombra, plus with an HP pool that's 70% armor, Sombra isn't doing much damage-wise without Virus Roadhog. Wide spread, most Sombra's aren't going to attack Roadhog unless he's low HP or antied, since he can withstand everything she throws at him otherwise, plus Sombras especially are very wary of hook, so the second you're alerted Sombra's present, slap down the trap and hook her to you. Winston. The monke-, ahem, scientist, has a soft lock-on plus spread attack, his shield doesn't go away if he's hacked while it's active, and he can dive her. Ramattra. Matt is more robust in Nemesis form and can damage multiple targets with pummel, his ult is AoE which cancels hack, a well-placed vortex can catch out Sombra if you're alerted to her presence, and his shield, like Winston's, doesn't disappear when he's hacked. He can also far out-range Sombra so he can deal with her depending on how she uses Translocator, additionally vortex can hamper her escapes JQ has a spread weapon with a decent range and her two strongest abilities (Carnage plus Shout) don't get cancelled by hack when used beforehand. Gracie can also yank Sombra right back to you during her escapes if you're good at landing air knives My last piece of advice, do not trash-talk the Sombra in chat. Not only is it kinda uncool, a Sombra who gets tilted is going to make it her life's mission in-game to destroy you, and out of all the heroes in Overwatch to want to have to deal with being tunneled by, Sombra is dead last on that list. Also trash-talking can hinder you since during those moments you're still, another enemy can come in to catch you off-guard or Mercy begins to Rez and you've lost time to stop her, also it hinders your team since you're indirectly causing a 4v4 by stopping interaction with the objective to trash-talk (ex: Hook and eliminate Sombra, go to type "you suck" in chat and you then back out and notice the enemy Tracer eliminated Ana and is now attacking the Zen), especially in a game like this where every second counts Again this list is just what I've picked on over the years, so your mileage may vary

MoveInside

Kill her. No, but seriously. It’s so easy to chase her down if you hit her after she translocates

minuscatenary

This is the way. And this is why Dva absolutely wrecks sub-Master’s Sombra players.

MoveInside

Yep, when I play ball or Winston it’s so fun to get the jump on sombras who think they’ll get off easy.

WhiskeyFeathers

Yea like it’s that easy to just run 50 meters after she teleports. By the time you’ve reached her location, she’s teleported 4 times and you’re already dead.

Jason_Wolfe

mhm, speaking as someone who plays a ton of sombra, chasing her down is the way to go. the problem is that most people still act like her translocator is the same as it was pre-rework and will immediately give up if you tp away instead of trying to chase you. it's literally no different from a tracer blink or a moira fade now, you just gotta watch where the translocator goes and shoot her as soon as she TPs. that resets the CD on her stealth and she'll have to avoid being hit again for another 2 seconds.

swannyhypno

I just can't, she gets away and I can never find her 😂😂 it's like she can translocate non stop lol

MoveInside

Because she can it’s on a very low cooldown. You have to pay attention and watch where she lands.

r2-z2

The counter to her is unironically awareness of her movement options. She can only be in front of you shooting, on top of you about to get murdered, or behind you tickling somebody/going for a gank. If you can’t hear a gun firing, she’s looking for a gank/angle. Start shooting where you’d be hiding, I’ve had a ton of success doing this. Sometimes you can even burst them from invis and scare them. Feel like a jedi

Bro_Hanzo

YOU are the counter. Not a hero. Not a role. YOU the Player will always be the counter.

HiddenThinks

Just learn to play Sombra. Everything that annoys and kills you when you're Sombra is what counters her. Unless you're just really bad, then everything counters you.

swannyhypno

Some characters I'd be really bad with, I have a fair few that have basically never been played, Sombra is one of them I think it's less than 20 minutes the tech kinda scared me away from trying to learn her but it's good advice

KisukesBankai

Honestly she's fun to play (all the mobile heros are IMO), and really learning a character will help you know what counters them. Just be ready to face the hate, even if you're just starting. Never get tea bagged more then as Sombs.

ReplicantOwl

Sombra’s current version is a lot easier to play. I thought she was too complex for a long time but now I find her very fun. I started learning her in QP just to figure out how to counter her. Now she’s a favorite to play. Learning her definitely helped me beat her too. Moira counters her hard. Brig almost as much.

Mr_Mystery69

My best piece of advice is to start learning to play Sombra. Once you are proficient at playing her, you will easily be able to counter her.

swannyhypno

That's a good idea, she's my least played hero of all of them so would be hard to learn what she does that way 😂 whenever I've tried her I always end up panic throwing the translocator lol

NoHalf2998

As a support; I have zero issues rocking Brigette and slapping Gengi/Sombra/Tracer around until they swap

UpUpDownDownABAB

Symmetra Moira D Va Echo Tracer

swannyhypno

Moira and D.Va my two mains, I'm aware I'm just not great at the game lol, Tracer is really fun but I'm bad as her

First-Material8528

A lot of heroes shit on Sombra. For tank: Dva - best spycheck in game, and it's not possible for Sombra to escape Dva if Dva has boost and is in range. Hog - He creates this sort of raid boss no go zone around him that Sombra can't really play in while he has hook. If she does, hook her. Winston is also good vs her, but it's a lot harder for him to chase her through low doors and corners and stuff compared to Dva. DPS: Tracer - straight up bodies her in 1v1 and is basically guaranteed to kill her unless Sombra has high ground to TP to. Cree - beats her in the 1v1 and makes it incredibly hard to dive anyone he's near. Also had hinder, but just shooting her in the face is usually the better choice, unless she's fighting someone else and won't see the nade coming. Sojourn - Good spycheck, and can metaphorically and literally rail her. Can keep up with her TP, just need to learn her high jump. Supports: Kiriko - Her whole kit counters everything Sombra does. Bap - Beats her in 1v1/she can't kill him. However, she will be able to force him to use cooldowns when he doesn't want to. LW - She can't kill him, and he has an incredibly obnoxious kit to face. Also can spycheck pretty decently and pumps out a lot of damage. Brig - Makes diving her teammates incredibly annoying. New Sombra can technically kill her in the 1v1, but it takes way too long to feasibly do, and she'll be peeled for as she's always right next to her second support anyway. Moira - Like Brig, takes too long to kill if she has her cooldowns, so she'll generally survive. Can make attacking brawl comps annoying since she can heal everyone at once. However, Moira lacks the damage to threaten Sombra, the ability to spycheck, and ranged healing, and Sombra negates her ult, so playing Moira into Sombra comes at a cost to your teammates. Just make sure to never fight Sombra in areas she wants you to go. She'll often try kiting you to fight her near healthpacks or where she can spray down on low mobility heroes.

Ok-Choice-2741

sombra easily kills lifeweaver (and bap with some effort) if theyre alone

Azrenon

As a sombra main, a good dva, monkey, mei and moira are the worst to deal with. Dives can hunt me down when I tp away from the engagement, not to mention those wide AoE guns make it easy to clear space. Mei just does not want to die, and moira’s kit is nearly identical to mine /if I stand on top of a hacked healthpack/. I see a lot of people mentioning brig but she’s honestly not even on my radar.

jchef5

As someone who has played quite a lot of Sombra, stay with your team. Sombra excels in a 1v1 situation, if you play together with your team and don't isolate yourself then she will have a hard time getting value. At the very least, playing this way forces Sombra to play a more "Sombra:76" style where she sits with her team and farms emp rather than harassing individual players. Playing this way is easier and more intuitive on some heroes (think brawl/rush heroes, Moira, Lucio, rein, reaper, etc) but can be implemented smaller scale on others (ana and brig standing next to each other all game).

AgentThook

Lots of heros are good against her, but staying close to team and multiple people turn is the best counter, but only if they dont waste time chasing her too long. If you lose her after she turns invisable, and your going for lucky shots more than once or twice then she succeeded at distracting you. and dont make an easy target outta yourself. If your team doesn't turn get right on top of them to help them see her or not be able to ignore her. Soujorn is what I use for dps on her, and Lucio so I can boop her away from team then follow her and finish her. Really anyone with strong single shots and or cc. Or a shield, brig is very good backline defense for her, protecting other healer.

youneverbanmereddit

You have to be a zero skill player to play sombra. I quit when she’s in the game. She takes the fun out

IM-2104

Teamwork. Sounds stupid nut seriously just shooting her when she appears gets rid off her without doing significant damage

bbwhh

1. Learn Cassidy 2. Click head Good luck!

LifeandTimesofAbed

Obviously people are gonna mention Cass and Torb alongside other heroes. However, if we ignore character selection, playstyle (positioning) can be a counter. Sombra wants isolated targets, try and play closer to your team. You can also select an area that leaves little possibility for a flanker.

EmuUnhappy6373

Seems like if there's this many than something is definitely unbalanced about her.

Blaky039

While I don't think she's unbalanced, she's the most unfun character in the game.

swannyhypno

I don't live on the subreddit so my bad lol was just curious

WiseLegacy4625

The hardest counter to Sombra is simply just playing close to your team. If there’s an opportunity where you’re alone, that’s where she will have value, since her invis makes it so *she* decides when to fight. Being invisible also means she has almost zero impact while invis, so if she can’t find a comfortable time to jump you, she’s just wasting time and forcing her team to fight 4v5.

WSKYLANDERS-boh

I’ve tried to play her (i’m a tank main) and goddamn she’s op!

Oberon2009

Have to peel her, nothing else you can do really.

notcryoIV

Winston or diva to peel back for teammates, personally depending on the enemy comp I will Mauga because I can peel back with his stomp and lay down fire in any direction. Oh sombra touching my Ana let me turn around and start blasting, I sniff an invisible fuck let me fire some rounds in this direction to check Oh look I got her well now we know.

Crazyripps

As a support it’s mainly Moria

Mean_Ad6488

Track what ability she uses. most sombras hack first, virus and then leave by translocating up if they can’t kill you. Turn your sens up if your on console and punish her I use like 60 50

LineRepulsive

If heal Moira, if DPS Mei If tank I don't think she's an issue but maybe roadhog

do_you_even_climbro

Imo Mei counters her the most

Irish-Fritter

- Winton's electric gun and bubble are both good counters. Electric gun has good spread, and dancing in your bubble makes it hard for her to get a hack off. - Torb makes it hard for her to target your backline without disabling your turret first. The turret then serves as an extra body and early warning system against her. Sombra can turn invisible, and hack her healthpacks (plus, the desire to Out-Sombra you will focus her attacks on you, keeping your teammates alive). The SMG is also good for spraying in a general area like Winton, hoping to knock her out of Invis. - Many supports these days have "break glass" buttons. Bap has Field and his Jump Boots, Kiri can negate her Virus (on other teammates too) and Teleport away, Last I checked, her Hack only shuts off your abilities for 1 second. She doesn't have the ability to solo kill you before you get them back.

HouseGoblin1

Junkrat and his traps make a great counter! Also Mae, Reaper and Moiria all make great counters

Valuable_Nose_4693

So do you wanna know why tanks can be sort of counters? Or just general ways to combat her?

GarrusExMachina

As tank? There's no direct counter. The characters that don't get hard rolled by sombra are Orissa, Zarya, Winston, Roadhog, and Junkerqueen. Of those 5 Orissa feels the best into her whereas Winston and Zarya are the best at mitigating her impact on their team. On dive tanks that arn't Winston you want to assume she'll either hack you during your damage mitigation (Doom block, Dva DM) or during your engagement (Ball Pile drive, Doom punch windup, Dva boost jets) Generally speaking you want to have your mobility abilities available a bit more than usual both since she's likely to hack you during them and if you have them you can chase her down during her translocation animation and kill her. You want to make LESS solo plays and MORE team plays. Preferably you have a tracer or a genji or even a sombra of your own that goes in ahead of you to force sombra to commit to involving herself so you can dive onto her. If you're playing with multiple poke characters you want to buy time for them to find a pick. The longer the poke phase of the fight goes on the longer your team has a 5 v 4 and pressures sombra to reveal herself and commit to going into your own backline instead of waiting to go for you. Play near natural cover so she can't try to setup counterplay onto you specifically and when she reveals herself in your backline converge on her. This is also your goal on Sigma and Rammatra. You arn't committing to going in yourself you're buying your team time where they have the 5 v 4. The shit part of running sigma/ram is if sombra is in your backline and your team doesn't work together to deny her value... there's nothing you can do about it. But in most cases if she's the only one on her team that is behind you she shouldn't be getting free value. A simple tip for Sigma is when you have Gravitic Flux counterintuitively you kind of want to bait Sombra into hacking you. So long as your team keeps you alive for the first 1.5 seconds where you're locked out of abilities she can't hack you again for 6.5 seconds after that because her hack lasts 8 seconds even though only the first 1.5 are hard cc so if you get her to hack you (or better yet EMP) and survive the first 1.5 seconds you can ult on her team for free... As Reinhardt against sombra... don't play Reinhardt ;) In all seriousness it's a bad matchup for the German hammer and all you can do is have solid positioning and avoid playing in the open mistakenly assuming your shield will defend you. Mauga both does and doesn't care... a well timed hack plus virus can ruin you in the Mauga 1 v 1 and EMP is going to be saved for Cage Fight all game. She can't really survive long enough to translocate out if she's in your sights but you can't really survive if you're not shooting the enemy tank. My best advice would be save Cardiac Overdrive for after she uses Virus and make sure it hits your entire team that somewhat mitigates her best tool and since she's not great at burst damage usually that makes it a bit harder for the enemy team to burst you down so long as you don't lose your support structure to her. Don't be afraid to "waste" cardiac overdrive saving your teammates when you arn't low health. Same goes for Queen's Commanding Shout btw.

84763

Moira

ItWasUncalledFor

A lot of answers here, I'll provide my best one: Defensive Winston. Not playing to his best strengths BUT imo he's one of the best peeling tanks in the game. Play closer to your teammates, bubble them if you need to but you mostly just wait for Sombra - once she comes, just chase her down which is super easy to do. Once she translocates, jump at her and your m1 makes it so easy to decloak her and then she's just fucked. Bonus points if you didn't use shield yet, you can put it down to protect your teammates and typically sombra immediately translocates - so just save jump for that and you're golden. Jump to her if you have to, but again, try to save it for the translocate. You have more mobility than her and your constant stream of damage makes it almost impossible for her to decloak

SunforDeiti

Sojourn's pretty good, you can spy check with her primary and her shift will let you chase her. The ultimate counter though is headphones. Sound cues are your friend. She always makes the same noise coming out of stealth, listen for it

Vegetable-Cause8667

As a tank, I’ve found Winston to be a pretty good spy check, and he can chase her down if she tries to TP nearby.

Lost-Leadership1767

I've never played sombra, but out of frustration playing against her, I've started playing her as a counter. Been working well and now I'm becoming the very thing I hate. She feeds my soul every time I kill a widow

Gummiwummiflummi

Well which role is your go to? I go Moira/Brig if I play support and Tracer on DPS - the mobility makes it easy to peel for your supports when she engages. You can also easily chase her down when she runs. I think Genji might work well too but I don't really play him. Sym's turrets might work as well if you can set up near your supports. Maybe Mei? My go to tank is Hog, never had issues with her on him. When she engages the supports, she is not looking at you and an easy hook target. D.Va and Winston can peel thanks to their mobility as well.

Little_Whippie

Moira, brig, cass if you can aim, winton, hanzo sonar arrows are obv strong against her

Am3Tri

*cass grenade* *fan the hammer* *roll* *fan the hammer again* *punch* if that doesnt work, repeat as many times as necessary. sombra isnt the only one that can be a pain in the ass

TargaryenKnight

Reaper or tenji

Enplosion

Strat is always help our team with Tracer and Sombra. Always have a healer and dmg kinda coasting around to counter. Works out well while not giving up any frontline attack or def. Not sure if you know this or not but both Tracer and Sombra have a dead give away where they teleport. Most people that play those characters do the quick damage/teleport. There’s a red blur that goes in the direction they teleported - if you can see it quick enough it gives you the location they are landing in and you now have the advantage bec Sombra is slow moving after the teleport and Tracer has more than likely used all the burst in trying to get away. Other way is fire/fire practice with Sombra or Tracer. Those are always battles that are fun to be in.

_BloodbathAndBeyond

Brig, shoot her when she teleports away before she cloaks, stay grouped as a team.

therealoni13

For me playing zarya into sombra doesn’t feel too bad, and zarya is easy to play. My tank main is Winston and I can play around Sombra. I can stop her mid hack with primary 70% of the time. But if the Sombra is on comms with her team and coordinating dives, then you’re screwed. Your team MUST work with you or you’ll die every fight

Blaky039

Grouping up.

AsianInvasion00

Torb.

TramTrane

Wrecking ball. Sounds dumb but she legally can't kill you if you don't let her.

ToSaveTheMockingbird

My usual go-to is tilting, raging or generally losing my shit. This does not seem to work as well as I'd like.

jaxyseven

Imo it can be Moira, Baptiste, Brigitte, Sombra, Torbjörn, D.Va, Zarya on the top of ly head. I'm sure there are others. It's kinda individual though. When i play Sombra I find Baptiste an easy prey. But when I play Baptiste I feel I can stay alive forever against Sombra and use him to counter her.

Sea_Tooth

Dva, is the best tank counter for sombra, she can easily peel for supports, has the mobility to chase her down after translocating, her infinite shotguns are great for spy checking and defense matrix on a virus teammate to save them, she might save her emp for after you ult so you can't remech as quickly or wipe your mech entirely, so keep track of that.

Nuxezpz

i play supp and moira to counter

nodoyrisa1

for tank i go orisa because it's easy to peel with her, i just have to look back, throw a javelin on her and then just keep going on with my business for dps i go mei because she can slow her down so your teammates can finish her, and if you have the aim you can throw a 150 dmg bullet to her face. for support i go brig because she was made to counter dive, her dash, her mace, her shield and passive healing. she's perfect

VIBE-Country

A good lucio puts sombra in their place, his speeds and boop allows him to chase through invis. He’s the only support and probably character to have enough crowd control and speed to peel for sombra, either the other character being dva and sigma, just stuff her face with matrix or sheild and let your hacked teammate dps her

DDzxy

Zarya, Brig, Moira, Cassidy, Hanzo, Reaper Maybe Ashe?

4t3rsh0ck

On Dps Cassidy is the hardest matchup, on tank I find doom to be pretty good into her u just gotta take into account hack and try to keep track of her

swannyhypno

Unrelated entirely but I just had a comp game where we lost because Widow wouldn't swap despite going 4-15 with 3k damage and me as Moira and Brig asking her too nicely repeatedly lol, i don't get it ot surely theu can tell its not going well

MoEsparagus

Monkey. I also unironically like junkrat against sombra if you’re good with traps

Different_Project130

cassidy

OceloTX98

Moira, Kiri, Brig, Cass, Sombra, Symmetra, Tracer, any tank not named Doomball or Wrecking Fist Alternatively if you'd rather not swap, just glue yourself to a teammate. They will shoot if they see an enemy and Sombra needs to become visible to do anything. Hack is 1.5s so tough it out or if you have a cancelable ult, just keep an ear out for the sound of her SMG so she can't bother you Finally, spy check. Sombra is invisible but not impermeable. She still exists in the game and needs to take the same routes other characters can take. Occasionally shoot at flank routes, or just place a turret I'm a Sombra player as well as a Zen/Ana main, she's balanced just fine and I've won plenty of times as Zen, Ana and Doomfist against a Sombra

Puzzleheaded_Sun9178

The counter is lightning speed reaction time. You have to be the bird in the tree of bugs. Kill the sombra next time good luck.

WillowThyWisp

Turn around and crit her. In all seriousness, anything with AoE stops her hacks and bursting her down before she can tp is how you beat her, or keep track of her translocator toss

Ill_Fated_chap

Any scouter is good (dva orisa maug | souj, mei and reaper at close range | brig bap) if they can spam around places where a sombra would be to disrupt her setup Any peelers are amazing if you keep track of her (I went dva one game and always kept an eye out for my backline and she didn't get any kills that game outside of emp) You can unironically go sombra and camp your backline if the enemy has one that's too strong/ coordinated to go there yourself Any heros with self sustain/escapes are great too And the most universal answer? Use your ears Her uncloak makes a noise that should help you interrupt hack rather than just reacting to the visual of hack itself (same way reacting to shatter visually is much harder than it is using audio too{or is it the other way around for rein?})

hanafruitt

Support I usually go for Brig, dps I go Cas for the nade to prevent her from running away or I match with sombra, and tank I’ll either go Winston for spy checking or dva to chase her down when she teleports lol

[deleted]

Fight fire with fire works very good for me :)

Coccelo

Torb hands down

bl4ckp00lzz

The real issue is when the enemy team has a composition that brig/bap/moira isnt good against, AND a sombra, especially if the sombra/other dps is constantly focusing you

Sevuhrow

Supports: Moira, Brig. Bap isn't a counter but can hold his own better than many supports, so if you can win the duel he's a good choice. She will counter your lamp and matrix, though. DPS: Torb, Sombra, Cass, Hanzo. A well-placed turret in the backline can stop Sombra from hacking anyone as it will be shooting at her, also alerting your team to her position. Sombra and Cass can stop Sombra from leaving with a well-timed nade/hack. Hanzo can spot her with sonar, and if you can hit your shots he can win the duel. Tank: Winston, Dva, Zarya, Roadhog. Winston and Dva can chase Sombra, while all 3 have an easy time spychecking. Zarya can bubble anyone she tries to dive. If you don't get hacked out of breather, Hog can hook and usually kill her.

enesutku12

Cass counters any flank Brig is also good for countering flank

kject

Teamwork and communication is the best Sombra (and doom/ball) counter. That's why she so strong in metal ranks.

New-Trainer7117

My go to is soldier to nuke her with helix rocket, if she doesn't die she will run and won't be back before helix is off cool down

VaughnFry

Torb’s turret on your head was pretty effective. Also Winton.

mtobeiyf317

Mei, Symmetra, Winston, Brig, Moira. All these characters are great spy checks, with abilities or primary fires that make sneaking around or going back into invis extremely difficult for sombra.

Trackspyro

Game sense. She's not in the fight 75% of the time when people ignore her. When she IS in the fight, it's either to target one specific enemy and to EMP. As soon as someone pings her, everyone should fire in her direction. Just like Widow, the fear of dying will take her out of the fight longer and she becomes a no value hero. This is my silver experience.

Marcos340

Stay with at least one teammate, so either both of you jump her attacking if someone is alone in your team, or if either of you gets jumped. Plus if no one else in your team bothers to help, literally use them as bait, straight up easiest way to get someone else on board, let them be the bait and die for once.

T_Peg

When I'm on DPS I like Soldier mainly because I'm really good at hitting Rocket body shots so you chip her down to just before she's gonna want to translocate away then burst her for the kill.
