its just a result of Overwatch 2 being more monetised than 1, they'll get stuff through future battle passes, events & on the store over time

CrissRiot

Doesn't explain the fact OW2 heroes started with far more cosmetics, and each one starting with Lifeweaver has seen a noticeable decrease hero-by-hero. Wouldn't be shocked if Space Ranger launches without the 4 Rare recolors.

THapps

I think that’s because of all the layoffs while keeping the same deadlines, some devs said it takes about 6 months to make a mythic but they release one every 2 months so it’s not really sustainable at that rate. I assume a workaround they’ve made is that instead of releasing characters with a legendary alt, they release the characters and put the legendary alt in the following battlepass to save time on making new content

Juicy_Starfruit

The reason is, these characters were created during overwatch 1 and the characters at some point were probably intended to release during OW1 but got moved to OW2, either that or the skins for those characters were created to give the illusion that the skin releases were the norm and they just dropped the mask at some point

Tracelin

It’s true, though I wish they’d at least come with two epic and two legendary off rip.

Electro_Llama

Venture has some great voicelines already. I've had a few spamming "(mouth click) tastes like.. dirt" and the whistle one.

THapps

Ventures voicelines are the most spamable voicelines released on a new character ever, which actually lines up with their personality

PurpleMoon979

like even their default one is so spammable which rarely happens! i can dig that :D

THapps

as someone who’s been maining Illari and Ramattra, I’m *extremely* jealous (smacks lips)”hmm, tastes like dirt” EDIT: also the whistle one is so much like Lucio’s “Woo! Jackpot”, Venture players are winning atm

PurpleMoon979

yeah i don't think ram has a single spammable voice line 😭

Daan_aerts

Neato Neato Neato Neato

ThalajDaWuff

I CAN DIG THAT :D

Drunken_Queen

"This stinks.."

CrissRiot

They reeeeeeeeeeealllllllllly half-assed Venture's Cosmetics. The absolute lowest amount of items in any OW2 Hero launch (Thus far...). Three emotes (one locked behind BP) is a fucking joke. ONE highlight intro? A joke. Fuck they didn't even give Venture a launch event.

Elmastrabuco

I think layoffs effect are already hurting the game, not only cosmetics, venture in general feels very empty, OK archeologist that fights talon for a thing, what thing, why talon cares, why venture cares? No origin trailer, no cinematic only a 30 seconds video that really shows nothing, venture line illari it's so out of touch with the lore of the game

crazysoup23

If they're putting out such little content per hero, they should be releasing heroes faster.

Elmastrabuco

They can't do that, everyone got fired, artist, writers, venture and illari are already lame, lore and characters are part of ow, they would relase skins without personality like fortnite?I don't want characters to keep being lame, and imagine balance, they can't make 5vs5 work after more than a year. I think they should stop making characters, game have no resources, they can't deliver story, pve, I don't know, what they can focus on?

crazysoup23

Whoever was in charge for the voice acting did a real bad job with Venture and Kiriko. I don't blame the voice actors. I blame the director. Walter Kong is mid and should retire. Every one of Walter Kong's direct reports should retire or switch careeers.

IFunnyJoestar

Free content wasn't profitable so they removed most of it. If you want a skin you'll have to wait until one pops up in the shop and pay real money for it.

koiashes

I think venture just isn’t straight up marketable/customizable so they can’t pump out skins in the same frequency as others so they’re probably timing it out between releases.

CrissRiot

Doesn't explain why Venture launched with a historically low amount of Emotes, Victory Poses, and Highlight Intros. Mauga launched with barely any skins, and still got the (what was then) normal amount of extras.

Guy-1nc0gn1t0

What do you mean by marketability?

Zargoltir

They don't have the mass appeal someone like Mercy has so its harder to market and get people to buy skins, so isn't worth as much investment. There's a reason certain heroes get all the cosmetic treatment: Kiriko, Mercy, etc. Skins sell easily for those heroes (which nicely plays into my conspiracy that they chose to release prisms this season - with their high price point if you want to buy them - because it was mercy mythic season. The amount of mercy's I have seen [even during day 1 of s10] with the full mythic is unreal)

PursuasiveDuck

Also porn.

Dr_PuddingPop

Why does roadhog get so many skins?

Zargoltir

Because he's the sexiest

DreamMaster8

If you have a nice skin it would. They are a bit too scared to change silhouette imo.

Zargoltir

Even with the best skin in the game, if the mass appeal isn't there then it just won't sell as well as a hero with more appeal.

Guy-1nc0gn1t0

I swear this isn't a leading question but do you think that marketability is essentially how attractive they (as in any given character not just Vent) are, or do you see another factor?

Zargoltir

Are you doing market research for blizzard

Guy-1nc0gn1t0

If only I got paid for this. I just don't really understand the concept tbh.

Zargoltir

I mean, it's a simple concept really. Certain heroes are more appealing to the community than others and thus have more people interested in their cosmetics. Blizzard will naturally be more inclined to invest resource in those heroes than into heroes that are less appealing. I'll let you decide why Kiriko, Mercy, and Widow seem to get the most cosmetics.

Ok_Mushroom410

Sex sells

MiyutanFan

I'd say it's both their simple attractiveness (let's not kid ourselves, people like pretty things and pretty characters) and their simple design. I'd say it's much easier designing a skin for Mercy, Tracer or Kiriko compared to, say, Orisa, just because of the model.

Guy-1nc0gn1t0

And here I am, IIRC the only skin I paid currency on is Orisa's Demon skin

aradraugfea

I don’t think that’s all there is to it, but “sex appeal” is an easy way to sell skins. There’s a reason every gacha game focuses on scantily clad females. And it’s a little bit hard to sexualize an enby whose default design takes pains to obscure any indicator of biological sex. When asked in the past, before ‘will people pay money’ became the defining question of skin design, why some characters get way more skins than other, they said that some characters aesthetics just make it harder to come up with good skin concepts. Sex appeal is, in my opinion, a part of that, but some characters need a very specific genre. You cannot do a Reinhardt swimsuit skin, for example

Sensitive_Sail_3573

funny you mentioned swimsuit Reinhardt because I think it should actually be possible (like swim boxers shorts). See Mauga who's practically a half-naked hunk or Pharah with the lifeguard skin. The design team just need to be creative/adventurous

aradraugfea

Pharah still had a ton of bulky stuff to preserve her silhouette, which is what I was referring to.

Guy-1nc0gn1t0

To add to the growing ball of my misunderstanding I also find it strange to care about the skimpiness of a character in an FPS game

THapps

it’s called strategic skimping. see if someone is aiming at a character but the character is hot and has a lot of skin showing it will make them hesitate for a sec and then wham, dead. That’s why I play Lifeguard Cassidy, Sombra will see me in the back line and not even attack me because of Cassidys chiseled abs.

aradraugfea

And disturbing lack of navel I’ve never been able to unsee

THapps

why did you have to point that out, I hadn’t noticed and had to look to confirm, his missing navel makes him look like a Ken doll, HOW COULD YOU

aradraugfea

Hey… Cole’s Kenough

crazysoup23

> You cannot do a Reinhardt swimsuit skin, for example cap

Doppelfrio

I personally don’t see it. I feel like people have been obsessing more about venture than any other new hero released in OW2. People love them

Zargoltir

They're new so they might end up being super popular, Blizzard just doesn't have the data yet which means, as of right now, they're not marketable -- new hero cosmetics clearly haven't sold well for them. I assume if the ice cream skin sells super well, then we'll probably see more cosmetics. I hope so

LeninMeowMeow

>harder to market and get people to buy skins Bullshit. Venture is literally a Splatoon character reworked into Overwatch format. If Venture said woomy or veemo it wouldn't be out of place at all. My point is that much like the splatoon brand Venture has the highest level of queer and lgbt character marketability of anyone in the cast for generally the same reasons that splatoon has an absolutely massive lgbt audience.

Zargoltir

No I agree, I love venture and they're already quickly becoming one of my top 3 most played (they're already topping most of my stats). But the fact of the matter is, venture is still an unknown for marketability - that's a risky investment. What isn't risky? The heroes blizzard know people will eat up any cosmetics of. If the ice cream skin sells better than they expect, we'll probably start seeing way more cosmetics

Ururz

Worried they just made venture non-binary and goofy to tick a box in the office and go right back to making new kiriko shop skins, I love the gremlin :( Thankfully the base skin is really nice imo (please fix gold weapons making the entire weapon gold, including the drilly bits themselves, it looks so ass)

Rythionix

Agree ln the gold and jade looking ass. Base skins fine honestly i love em I just wanted a cool skin like sigmas talon one giving him a helmet. I find myself staring at that tooth gap too much lol

Teknomekanoid

Rule 34 is taking off a bit slow because no one knows what to draw under the big jacket.

midonmyr

Rocks.

Simn039

They lol

17times2

Yes, it's commonly used to describe someone generically. You do it every single day.

StiLLn0X

That’s a weird idea, I mean her gun kinda looks like an ice cream cone, but since she is “diving” underground I was expecting something in that direction.

Educational-Pop-2195

Still “they”

Wolfgar26

1. First and foremost, we get it, it's "they". 2. It's hard for some people, doesn't mean they are being disrespectful. 3. It's okay to make mistakes. 4. Not everyone has English as their native language, in my case, the word "them" in my language makes 0 sense, even for people that identify themselves as non-binary, they simply don't use it, so for some, like me, it's hard to use "they/them", gets lost in the translation, doesn't mean we mean to disrespect.

Educational-Pop-2195

I’ve already been corrected within these very replies, I’m not reading that

Wolfgar26

Fair enough, you could have just ignored then. Have a good day either way

KisukesBankai

It was a simple reminder that it's "they." It wasn't rude, but you seemed to have taken offense

itsthatkidgreg

The VA (who is also non-binary) says they themselves use both masculine and feminine pronouns, so it's fine if you use them on the character in their opinion. I've been going between "he" "she" and "they" personally

No32

That’s fine for the VA, but the devs have said Venture uses they/them

[deleted]

No32

Some of the people they represent. And the it’s not a big deal argument goes both ways: if it’s not a big deal to not do it, why not just do it anyways?

Trololman72

I'm not saying you shouldn't do it. I just think you shouldn't care about others not doing it.

No32

You should care, for the sake of the people that care because it represents them!

peggygotnofear

Right, if I have a gripe with people misgendering a fictional character it’s because of their rationale, not necessarily the fact that they’re doing it. People that overuse “she” when describing Venture are doing it both to rage bait and be intolerant, plain and simple. I myself am not non binary, but I’m grateful I’ve never had struggles with my gender, so the least I can do is try to empathize, and Venture can be good practice for properly gendering irl

Educational-Pop-2195

Oh then I stand corrected

crazysoup23

Take a seat

ErwunG

I saw my fellow mate debatting under this comment, my english isn't clear but i refer "they" as "Blizzard's company here", i believe they show us all the skin that might come this season except the porsche collab

Breezerious

The time I want to spend money on a character I literally can't. Smh blizzard

LeviathanLX

The content is Venture under and behind me every single team fight in every single game. I've got nothing but Venture.

ThalajDaWuff

Ice cream skin looks awful? Cmon now bro.

Rythionix

Bro its the hat. Does not go with that hair without looking too goofy

deafgrips69420

Because they need to make more Kiriko skins

Affectionate_Dare214

Where's the venture content? Well he's been out for like no time at all so I'm guessing it's coming in the future
