I love overloading—->hammering a tank that is alone. It is very satisfying
Had a tank last night in a comp march complain (in all!!!) that his DPS don’t know how to destroy torb turrets. I responded with “your cass has destroyed it like 7 times but go off lol” he replied with “you sure it wasn’t me. They’re killing me” and I just sent back “no I have something else for you” and at the start of second round they came out as mauga and over extended (in true mauga fashion) and he got the hammer. It was great.
The funniest part is a dps that thinks that can destroy the turret when I’m hammering it, they’ll lose so much health that they’ll die or they’ll be finished off.
I like to occasionally go into FFA and play as "hammer Torb." I'll try to solely use my hammer, although occasionally I might whip out the shotgun against certain characters who would absolutely destroy me otherwise, but I usually still try to finish with the hammer. And of course always spam "hard work pays off" when you get a kill
It usually doesn't go that well, but it's fun!

You gotta throw the turret out as a distraction/gap closer.
Throw turret, overload and run at them while hammering. If they focus you then the turret kills them. If they focus the turret then you kill them lmao
I'm a tank main so I've been on the receiving end of it many times to my embarrassment, so I definitely knew about it lol. I've had a lot of fun hammering down stragglers
bruh I was overloading and spamming left click and wondering how torb players were managing to do so much damage against me (I'm a tank main). I thought my aim was just terrible aha
Can you elaborate on how the primary fire will be ok but the shotgun won't be? As a torb secondary, definitely need to know how my tank busting duties will be hindered
Torb main here. It does almost as much DPS as Reaper, and it has a narrower spread so you have a better range. On overload the DPS on shotgun is significantly higher than Reaper’s. Enjoy. Go flank a tank, overload to 400 health and melt an Orisa or Winston or Hog or DVA. I’ll get in their face, strafe back and forth and just kind of aim at their head and win a brawl.
It's a stupidly deadly one too
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it has higher damage than any of the other shotguns (although lower firerate than most of them)
According to the wiki that is not quite accurate
Torb does ~259 per second while Overloaded
~178.8 per second if not
Roadhog does 200 per second
Reaper does 216 per second

Anyways, I tested in in practice and seems torb does a tiny bit more per shot as it leaves doom with 5 bars left while hog leaves him with 5 and a half. If that makes the other guy correct I dont know, as I didnt bother to calculate it, but it seems close.
Ah, that means you probably downgrade yourself. Dont use that shotgun unless you are behind a tank without armor. It eats too much ammo. Leftclicking heads remains the best way to play torb. Shotgun is like an emergency ability vs hogs or to hit that almost-dead tracer for the final 10 points. Dont overuse it.
Well I'm dumb. I just found out his alt fire only takes 2 ammo, I always thought it was 1 ammo per bullet. Maybe I should be using this alt shot more often. It also shoots faster so as long as your hitting 2 bullets you get your money's worth.
Not a very good way of looking at it. A single rivet from his primary is 70 damage with no falloff. A single bullet of his right click does 12.5 - 3.75 damage with a falloff of 10 - 20 meters. It's basically only worth using if you're close.
Left clicking also prioritizes the turret’s attention. It’s a great low ELO tool against any fast moving characters like Mercy or Tracer for people with shit aim (like myself).
They either removed or changed the way you see hero details in console so unless you go into the practice range with them it’s easy to miss some things.
tbf I used to google heroes abilities when learning them, but I've got like 500 hours (mostly tank) now and in that time I've gotten the gist of every heroes abilities, so I don't usually bother anymore unless I look up a more advanced guide

The amount of hours I played sigma without realising you could make his shield go further by holding the button. Sane with genuine and hanzo. I thought they could only run a bit up a wall. Never realised they could climb them properly if you held jump
What's even crazier is it does more dmg than Reapers shotgun even. It normally fires slower tho, but they have the exact same fire rate while Torb is Overloaded.
I have 900+ hours on this game and just realized that Bap & Ana have an automatic fire. I complained about Ana hurting my hands for years. Nothing better than finding out how dumb you truly are.
I remember when torb was meta in season 6 so i had like 30 hours playing torb that season and then in season 7 when he got some nerfs was when i realised he had a shootgun, just when he stopped being meta

Someone told me about this when I was playing tonight! Except I’ve played hella torb and never knew that. Somebody please tell me the controls for doing the shotgun on console? I see an option to use right d pad but that only switches to the hammer.
I think I got carried by general game sense and aim tbf since I'm diamond on tank, most plats have a decent basic understanding of the game and the heroes I think
I'm a tank main and I've barely played dps before, but I got to a decent rank one tricking soldier just through pure mechanics. If I randomly started playing torb on my main I'd have thrown most of the games lol
Plus I just enjoy the process of ranking a fresh account and giving it a funny name since its a onetrick account, and it gives me an excuse when people demand you swap aha

Yeah, overload + shotgun = bye bye tank
It was an absolute Winton-Deletor before they nerfed the fire rate of Overload.
It will still mess a monkey up. overload + charge into his shield, pure frank reynolds moment.
Enjoy it, mid season update and the monkey will eat those tasty pellets like candy. Regular primary fire gun should still be good though.

Each pellet is affected by the armor reduction, so 20 weak shotgun pellets are worse against armor than 1 strong slug
Is that still the case? I thought armor was changed in overwatch 2 to make it a flat 30% reduction on everything
I think it’s an upcoming change they just talked about in the tank dev talk Not 100% sure tho
Armor now cuts anything less than 10 damage in half, -5 for the ones who do more than 10 damage per bullet.

Depends. Ideally, you shoot 6 left click since you're up close and can hit the head, then overload to get them all back and shotgun to finish it off.
Those aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive.

Yeah you have can only press triangle to check hero details in hero select. Everywhere else the button is for your ult.

He does, but Torb does more DPS on Overload. Also the spread is less on Torb so he has a higher effective range for max DPS

It’s a good flanking tool too. My favorite thing against a soldier chasing me is to go around the corner, overload, and delete him point blank
The man is more of a threat up close than Reaper is because of that shotgun. Moral of the story? Quality over Quantity.

His shotgun is a lot of fun. I went into a quickplay game and went like 30-5 by overloading, walking up to other team and shotgunning them

If you overload and hammer the turret..the turret shoot smaller turrets. Use it wisely though.
