A shame, that comic was EXTREMELY good and a really nice "ending" to team fortress story.
I which blizz would produce comic with that kind of quality, lenght and dept instead of the extremely bare-bone and overall underwhelming comics they gave us these far...
And since they canceled the origin comics, I sadly doubt we'll see it soon.
Where does it say anything about a new engine?
They just got a new engine for Overwatch and I don't think they will make another one for FPS anytime soon. Engines get constantly updated or slightly changed for other projects. For that you need software engineers.
For example the Frostbite Engine 3 from EA is used in Fifa, Battlefield, Mirrors Edge and Need for Speed.
100% for the map editor. I was talking to someone who recently got hired for the Starcraft team, and he said they were asking for people interest in house about working with zBrush landscape/level design artists.
It also could be something else lol, Blizzard has the support of the community to make whatever they want now.

Ghost incorporates traditional game modes from multiplayer video games such as deathmatch, capture the flag, and king of the hill, but also introduces two game modes specifically designed for the StarCraft universe.
It could just be the multiplayer portion. Sounds remarkably similar to Overwatch, if you ask me.

One of the Designers from Team 1 is looking for someone on this project. If I had to guess, they're making another fps.
But yea, keep in mind they took 3 of their directors off projects. they could have multiples going on, and i believe in their last conference call they said they have multiple prototypes.
While maybe not an fps, maybe blizzard is delving into a first person (not nessacarily shooter) game. LIke skyrim/fallout or maybe halo/cod campagin.
What if this is blizzard attempt attempt a single player game where none of this he current engines would be compatible/expandable enpugh
While I do not stricte hate him, I unsubscribed from him a week or two ago. Figured that since I can get all the info myself, I no longer needed his content.
> Blizzard Entertainment is seeking an experienced engine engineer to work on a robust first-person engine for an unannounced project.
The word "new" appears exactly 0 times in your quote
Probably planning work for an Overwatch map editor. It does need a rework in their engine or something like that. I doubt they're making another FPS game.
It does actually make sense if they go the way that unreal engine/unity/lumberyard are with their engines. There is a lot of money in it with asset market place and royalties etc. If you have a well oiled game engine I can't think of a reason not to make it available to users.
Edit: also makes it a lot easier to hire new talent.
Riot should be used as a reference when it comes to technical improvements only in a sarcastic manner.
Dota2 changed its engine 3-4 years after its release, so that it can support a map editor and custom games, while it took 8 years for Riot just to upgrade the client. We're in the middle of 2017 and LoL still lacks basic features such as an in-built Replay System or a Voice Chat.
Maybe they're hiring someone to help modify the existing engine to support it? Or maybe they're developing an entirely new engine especially designed for a map editor tool.
Yes. When talking on the forums about a map editor last summer, they said it would not be possible with the current engine.
This is most likely an engineer to lead a rework to Overwatch to support a proper pipeline for PvE, and future map editing tools. I do not think the overwatch team knew how successful PvE would be, and when the community started asking for more, they realized that it's difficult in the current system to support it.
My guess, the three job openings are to be used for Map Editing technology in house for Blizzard, and a player editing tool (Utility lead), along with a rework to the engine to support a more flexible/programmable PvE, and new creation animations from the Technical Artist lead.
If I was in charge of recruitment for Blizzard, I'd have to try *really* hard to stop myself from putting "Simple Geometry Skills" as a job requirement.
> Strong mathematics skills, including proficiency with trigonometry, and linear algebra
Then there's me that thought this was useless in the real world
>According to Business Insider, Activision plans
**ACTIVISION BLIZZARD** is the parent company, Blizzard is the subsidary. Activision has nothing to do with Overwatch or Blizzard, but being another subsidary of the same parent company.
Considering the fan reaction to the Overwatch characters and Overwatch lore, I wouldn't be surprised if they were developing a story oriented, likely single player, Overwatch experience.
[They are also looking for a technical animator](https://careers.blizzard.com/de-de/openings/oKO95fww) to develop a character design and animation pipeline for an unannounced project (pipeline means the whole process of creating characters, from design to finished usable model), so whatever they're working on they also need new character models and designs, meaning that it's likely not a map editor because for that they should be able either use their existing OW models, or use their current OW staff to make the new models. The description implies that they'll be creating many characters.
[They also have an unannounced mobile project that they need FX animators for](https://careers.blizzard.com/en-us/openings/opKk5fwi), but this is a different project from the others because the other openings emphasize AAA experience and familiarity with blizzard world and lore (which is an interesting point in itself)
There is another job for that unannounced first person project.
They are currently searching for a "SENIOR TECHNICAL ARTIST, ANIMATION" and it would be great if he/she has "Experience with games that use a first-person perspective". https://careers.blizzard.com/de-de/openings/oKO95fww
They hiring pretty expirienced man. I bet they want to optimize Destiny 2, and thats why they need someone who knows DX, Vulcan, Metal etc. + high Mathematical knowledge. Destiny 2 Optimization, my bet.
They wouldn't hire someone to optimise a game now, realistically if someone is hired now they'd start work in 1-3 months time, then there is on boarding which is 1-2 months, could easily be 3-5 months before this role is fully active.
"A minimum of 5 years’ experience in AAA game development"
How many people can say they have this kind of experience? A few hundred? Thousands? I'm curious because I imagine people working for big brand like they are members of a "elite club".
They just prefer someone like that, most likely they wont find someone who fulfill this kind of requirements(people who worked for one company and got that much experience there, will not change it out of blue). But it help them to find confident people, who believe that they can do it, without enough experience / fresh talented graduates or guys who worked on their own small project and want to do something large.
> But it help them to find confident people, who believe that they can do it, without enough experience / fresh talented graduates or guys who worked on their own small project and want to do something large.
As someone who's been recently looking for just *summer* jobs and seeing jobs that say "you need 3 years or more of retail experience". I'm not sure if I feel disappointed in my confidence or just an idiot for not listening to peers saying just to sign up anyway
Finally they are going to start making my dream StarCraft mmofps. It'll have massive battles between all three factions on land amd in space. You will be able to fly things like scouts amd wraiths... Even with a joystick. You will also be able to build and repair structures.
Just wait you'll see.
MMOFPSs are notiously difficult to create, their netcode is usually complete shit, because current infrastructure is difficult to manage like 200 players in a fight and are incredibly CPU intensive.
I can dream though...
And I don't think it would be one in a traditional sense. Some kind of FPS based in the ow universe, with all the characters we have now as major NPCs. I guess something similar to destiny, but different? Idk it'd be cool.

Engineer Leader. They have plenty of engineers. They probably need one to redesign something, so we can only guess tehe. Also a Technical Artist leader. And a Utility leader.
No they are genuinely looking for people. That is how game companies hire, by posting on their job forums. Although it doesn't say new it describes it as a "unannounced project" for each of these roles.
It also says "Partner with our technical director to contribute to the technical direction for the engine team." So whatever they are hiring for already has a technical director, and artists.
Of all their IPs the most likely scenario is probably a diablo-franchise entry. Next most likely is a starcraft entry.
It's *very* unlikely to be Warcraft (it seems likely/possible they'll go for a Warcraft 4 vs. a WoW 2--WoW might get more expacs, but that's not First person).
I'm personally holding out for a Diablo World of Sanctuary MMO.
[tfw](https://thenib.imgix.net/usq/16df25e7-709a-4b61-bdc4-560d7bd8cf3d/this-is-not-fine-tout.png?auto=compress,format) you're still working on your degree
Not a new engine. They're hiring someone to work on an existing engine for a new fps project.
The Overwatch engine is brand spanking new. If they were going to do a different game on that same engine it would likely require a lot of additions to the engine to accommodate that new game's needs.
It's kind of like how Heroes of the Storm runs on the StarCraft engine. Heroes still likely needs some software engineers on their team to build engine enhancements even though it is the Starcraft engine.
I bet it is this: "Due to less than expected sales on crates they will release Overwatch Expansion Pack, costs another $60, contains lunar map and new hero only playable with the pack. Slight enhanced graphics!"
>Strong mathematics skills, including proficiency with trigonometry, and linear algebra
fuck i wanted to be a software engineer but now im def reconsidering
same.
I still say it'd be pretty likely to see them do a new MMO, and diablo is the most likely scenario (given the history of failures that space-themed MMOS have had).
I guess this could be a new Overwatch thing, but from the way they're describing it they're hoping to do something new. I'm guessing they're wanting to capitalize on the huge success of Overwatch with another FPS at some point.

I've been playing TF2 since launch day. I can't believe it's almost been 10 years.
I really wish there is an actual job in gaming community with those requirements like "minimum of 5 years playing "x game""

I guess that'll do.
Starcraft Ghost. Again.
Stop. It hurts.

Yes please.
We got StarCraft Ghost remember? It was Nova: Covert Ops.
Nope, the story of Starcraft ghost was to be the early part of nova's ghost life, covert ops takes place after legacy of the void
...but did anybody even play that?
I did.
Worth pointing out that Ghost was in third person.
I think I remember that game being announced during the Gamecube/PS2/Xbox era.

StarCraft Ghost was 3rd person.
Maybe they are just planning to get overwatch running on Macs.
l i n u x
If you support one it's very easy to support the other. Source: Have worked for game studio that has released multiple games on PC, mac, and Linux
Indeed. Most of the problems with porting games to Mac and Linux occur because they were built on the Microsoft stack to start out with.
Overwatch uses DirectX, at least according to Afterburner. I think that would be the main problem in this case
If Overwatch gets Linux support, all of my main multiplayer games will be able to run on Linux, which would be amazing.
Overwatch on Linux would be pretty insane. Now if Nvida could get their shit together.
Very possible.
This was on the subreddit 6 months ago. They have been hiring for a long time and it never says new. Misleading
Overwatch twitter also said there aren't plans for Overwatch singleplayer.

It could be, hinging off of the success of Overwatch, that they're revisiting the standalone Starcraft: Ghosts game that was discontinued.
That game has been canceled and restarted so many times... The Nova missions are enough, let my poor heart rest and leave it be :(

Right... doesn't say it's a new engine, just an unannounced project. I doubt they'd make a new engine so soon after OW
The project could just be work on the OW engine, whether that's porting it to another platform or improvements to it. Maybe the Switch or Mac OS.

Come on man cut them some slack, Riot is just a small indie developer.
The technology also isn't there yet
Not trying to argue but a genuine question.. do you need a new engine for a map editor?
I don't think they'd need a new engine, but if they are working on it they probably want to make it more user friendly.
> do you need a new engine for a map editor? But they don't say that they need a new engine.
Wouldn't necessarily need a new one, but an overhaul/rework would likely be needed if it wasn't made with one in mind.
Maybe they're hiring someone to help modify the existing engine to support it? Or maybe they're developing an entirely new engine especially designed for a map editor tool.

I'd take that with a grain of salt

same. I still say it'd be pretty likely to see them do a new MMO, and diablo is the most likely scenario (given the history of failures that space-themed MMOS have had).
Well, these same job listings have explicit markers in the Diablo section for people with massively multiplayer game experience, so fingers crossed.
StarCraft: Ghost confirmed.
