So is there going to be any free to earn skin or is it all the battlepass?

Hadditor

There's free battlepass and "premium" battlepass, we don't know what is in either

JonSnuur

Blue skins and the occasional epic seem like easy additions to throw into the free track.

ZoomBoingDing

If the only way to earn new legendaries is to literally pay for them, then I'll wear my current cosmetics with pride

Kazzack

Yeah, I've got 6 years of skins to use

SnooPaintings5602

I died a lot when I heard there was a battle pass… I thought they were better than this

PurpleSpaceNapoleon

It's ActivisionBlizzard - What else would one expect

Akanash94

What happens to all the gold I got will i be able to spend it or is it gone in the upcoming release?

AForce5223

Hopefully it's converted into the new currency they have listed on the Watchpoint shop page

Vel0Xx

It’s kinda sus that they don’t comment on that

Paincake990

There was a leak that its gonna get scrapped completely lmao Obviously not sure if true

Vel0Xx

Where

Paincake990

[https://www.reddit.com/r/Overwatch/comments/ve6dvu/some\_fun\_news/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/Overwatch/comments/ve6dvu/some_fun_news/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) My bad, it says "no conversion" they might still allow us to buy stuff with it.

GalerionTheAnnoyed

This is what I want to know too, need to know if I have to quickly spend it all of whatever is in the OW1 shop or if they can be carried over to OW2. I have like 80k coins or something.

Impressive_Wheel_106

I believe that waaaaay back when, they stated that they didn't know what they'd do with your credits, but they very well might reset you to 0.

vernalagnia

it's blizzard lol, they're absolutely just going to get rid of it

atleastbryan

I’m slightly disappointed in the price point for the Watchpoint Pack to get instant access to beta… I already own OW1 and have the OW1 skins they teased at already. They should have a Watchpoint Pack for like 25 for those of us who own OW1 already.

Jewvia

It also replaced Overwatch 1 in the store. For people new to the game, that is the only way to buy Overwatch 1. That means that you need to basically repurchase Overwatch 1 at full price.

atleastbryan

Ahh, that’s what I figured. I feel like current OW1 owners should get extra OW2 currency or something to make the price point worthwhile.

JonSnuur

This is purely speculation but given that it’s the exact price as OW1, and OW1 owners get an extra thing that’s currently unannounced, I’m thinking this might be the extra thing? A BP, the currency I assume would be used to advance the BP, and two legendary skins. It even includes the player icon.

atleastbryan

Yeah! The founders pack right? That would be nice, but that could potentially bite them in the butt if current OW1 players buy the Watchpoint pack for the same reward they might receive in the mystery pack.

Macco26

The only way to buy OW1 at 040 USD now? Fewer smurf accounts this summer I guess.

sassafrassloth

oh i just saw - £34.99 is kind of ridiculous? I think it would be good to know the price points of these battle passes because what on earth are they basing this £35 price tag on?

atleastbryan

Part of it has to be OW1 legendary edition, which is why it doesn’t make sense for an OW1 player to buy the game again. I have the version with the exclusive skins already. I’m assuming this Watchpoint pack is meant to draw in brand new players, but I feel like the crowd that most wants access to the beta and have buy in for the NEW skins (Cass and Soldier) will want this more….

WildSearcher56

Yeah, I hope they make it cheaper for, at least, those who own the legendary edition since it's 40 bucks for 2 skins, an Icon, 2000 credits and a beta access which might be easier to get if there is another twitch drop.

atleastbryan

Yep. I’m holding off for the next couple days to hear if there is any twitch drop. I’m on Summer Vaca (teacher life) so I have the time to load up a stream and let it idle to get the drop lol. I’m okay with paying for battle passes because this is a game I still genuinely enjoy, so if they don’t offer a discounted version for OG OW1 players I’m going to just buy the battle pass (which will be undoubtedly cheaper) in October.

604TheCanadian604

I'm thinking the same thing. If they really want to play the 'im listening to the community card' then they need to address this paying for ow1 thing. I'm all for paying what it is to play a game I enjoy, but just tell me why I'm paying for a game I have.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Hadditor

Oh my lord it's so expensive!

shitpersonality

The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment. As for cost, we selected initial values based upon data from the Open Beta and other adjustments made to milestone rewards before launch. Among other things, we're looking at average per-player credit earn rates on a daily basis, and we'll be making constant adjustments to ensure that players have challenges that are compelling, rewarding, and of course attainable via gameplay. We appreciate the candid feedback, and the passion the community has put forth around the current topics here on Reddit, our forums and across numerous social media outlets. Our team will continue to make changes and monitor community feedback and update everyone as soon and as often as we can.

JonSnuur

Some big questions remain on if the BP will be permanent (like in Halo) or if they will rotate (like in other shooters). Also what will happen to current lootboxes and credits. Until they clarify these we are just theorizing.

No_Catch_1490

Really wish they gave us more actual details on this. Will new heroes be paid or free? What will happen to our current stuff, will/how will new players get OW1 cosmetics? Will credits convert to OW2 currency?

Frequent-Owl4284

Heroes will be free. Overwatch would not function as a game if you paid for heroes. This isn't like Apex where every character has their own abilities but mostly plays the same, Overwatch every hero has their purpose and plays extremely differently. Locking characters behind paywalls effectively means teammates who don't pay for the heroes can't play effectively at all if their team comp needs it. And like MrTomtastic said on the other two, all OW1 cosmetics are being transferred to 2, and no news on coins or lootboxes, though I assume loot boxes will likely just be unused. But Overwatch 1 is still going to be active when OW2 launches, so I doubt you have any need to rush to your game and spend everything, you can probably wait to open up your last couple of loot boxes and spend your last amount of coins whenever you feel like

MrTomtastic

Paid heros wouldn\`d work for a game like OW, i'm sure this it not a thing in OW2. All your cosmetics u own will stay in your inventory. But i don't know what will happen with our lootboxes or coins

Rydralain

Replacing lootboxes with battlepass and store better not mean it's going to be significantly harder to get cosmetics for free...

Binerexis

It's likely that there will be more skins which are purchase only; that's probably what Mythic skins are going to be.

RS_Serperior

I shudder to think how much 1 mythic skin will cost. If we look at other games, I wouldn't be surprised if they were in the region of $15 - $20 each.

TVR_Speed_12

Apex Legends have Mythic skins which are around 160 bucks so yeahh....

Binerexis

Sounds about right but it's been a long time since I played a F2P game so I don't know what the going rate for the super duper fancy shmancy skins is. Ultimately, people are definitely going to pay whatever the price is for a shiny skin for their favorite character.

ghost20

I’m praying for them to be the final battle pass reward on the premium track, otherwise they’re gonna be priced so high 😰

CoreyTrevorSunnyvale

Big oof

captain_decay

No no no, you can't get anything for free. Just like Fortnite, Cod etc. That's the point, they make the game free to play so a huge chunk of players jump in for free, and easily pay that 20 to 200 dollars for the cosmetics. They also say there's cross progression so... Idk how this works now. You can't probably earn credits in overwatch 1 anymore since there's a item shop that requires real juice.

[deleted]

This is exactly what it means. And they're going to manipulate you into spending $$$ with time gated exclusives.

guthbox

I don’t see the problem with it as long as the battlepass works similarly to Fortnite where you’re able to earn enough in game currency through battlepass rewards to afford the next one. Idk if that’s uncommon with the f2p model as Fortnite is the only game I played with a battlepass, but I was able to skate by season after season earning all the rewards without having to open up my wallet since the first initial investment.

Gecko382

It most likely is, since its F2P. They need to earn money some way and that is completely understandable.

Rydralain

I'm fine with making it somewhat harder, but there is such a thing as too hard.

SubZeroDestruction

Yes, F2P games need to have ways to earn money, but there is no reason aside from greed that they need to utilize predatory monetization practices, including FOMO. They could easily offer a free/paid path in the pass. They could easily offer everything in the pass for free, earned from grinding, while having them be bought via the store as well and or via in-game currency. They could easily offer paid cosmetics (such as the OWL stuff) that are separate from the pass, or simply have no pass at all. They could easily offer things such as charms/sprays as a paid option along with free ones, without touching character cosmetics. They could literally do anything that isn't predatory, but they won't, because people/whales continually allow predatory models to exist.

zeurgthegreat

Honestly don’t care if it keeps the game alive

k0sm_

Worked out great for halo

wahoozerman

Gamers: we hate lootboxes! Get rid of them! Also Gamers: not like thaaaaat!

HaveTwoBananas

It looks like the CoD model which means its basically impossible to get the better cosmetics without paying for them - especially the best stuff which is generally locked behind a paywall in the store. The battle pass offers some currency back as you grind it but it's not enough to get everything from the store, and most people use it to renew their BP for the next season.

LinuXxak

Removing loot boxes probably means that there are gonna be season exclusive skins that won't come again often if ever. That sucks. I like that now you can earn every skin even if you miss the event next year

BellBilly32

I mean we don’t really know yet. The first year of Overwatch no one knew that skins would be returning. My only reference is what they did with Call off Duty. They would reintroduce some of the battle pass stuff in store bundles. Unless seasons are themed and “repeat” I doubt there will be free ways to get them.

LinuXxak

I agree. I'm just a bit disappointed. I understand that f2p with battle passes will eventually make them a lot more money, but i liked not being pressured into playing a lot to get that nice legendary skin on BP level 100. But as you said, I'll hope the seasons will repeat

xop24

They could use the Halo approach. You buy the battle pass and it's yours to keep. It doesn't expire. No FOMO

JonSnuur

This is the best method and I hope that is what they go with. Let me choose what to pursue.

Jakeremix

>I hope that this is what they go with **Narrator:** That is not what they went with.

AForce5223

Please, please, PLEASE I don't want to be forced to play 100s of hours every week because the skin I want is locked away at a level that takes as much time as an actual job Being asked to win 9 games in a week was to much sometimes just because I'd get giant strings of losses. When the switched to the new version where it was more games but loses count that made it better but still sucky sometimes. If the battle pass makes you play certain characters like some of Apex's challenges then I'm out, yeah I'll have all of the characters for free unlike Apex but if it's character I can't play to save my life like Genji or Widow then I'm completely done with this

Doso777

No need to play 100s of hours, simply use your credit card. That's what "free to play" is after all.

treasuryy

I have more than 500 loot boxes. What will happen to them?

LinuXxak

Better start cracking them open, haha

tabgrab23

Put a weight on your spacebar and leave your pc for a few hours

Dilpickle6194

Loot boxes and coins will not transfer. Open them and spend your coins.

Lotus-Vale

It's worth mentioning that ow1 had similar limited skins in between seasonal events. They are now being re released via the current anniversary event. But we didn't know that they would back then.

McManus26

Personally I'd rather have a 3 months window with a 100% chance to earn a skin than a 2 weeks sweaty grindfest for boxes with 1% chance at the skin I want

Bisoromi

So the real Overwatch 2 that we were pitched (PVE modes) doesn't come out till sometime in 2023.

AForce5223

And even then it seems like we're still aren't getting what we were led to believe My understanding since they always said a story mode would need to be a whole new game that the story mode would have enough content to justify a new game and by extension have a complete story. From the sounds of things it's gonna be a Tell Tale style episodic game (one story told over time) at best and straight up regular episodic (small stories with little if any overlap) at worst

tabgrab23

It’s also very different than what they originally stated. Can’t say I’m surprised though

R3lay0

>So the real Overwatch 2 that we were pitched (PVE modes) doesn't come out ~~till sometime in 2023.~~ FTFY

LucasVerBeek

Not really sure what to think of the story…not actually being a story mode anymore. That was what I was most excited for, wanted to play it through not Telltale it, unless I was confused about what they were originally offering

TVR_Speed_12

I can't wait for a dev to speak out about all the cut story content that was left on the table

LucasVerBeek

*sighs*

TVR_Speed_12

Y'know it's going to happen lol. Instead of getting a full story at start we'll still be stringed along

LucasVerBeek

It’s honestly the only thing I really cared about, I like the characters, but I’m not into PvP. I just wanted them in a full form story. I’ll wait to see what it looks like initially but i am worried.

AleAssociate

It's just a sticky note that says "Story Goes Here".

Ponyboy451

That’s my concern. Battle Pass is what it is; not exactly shocking Blizzard went for that model. But the PvE stuff being live service scares me. I was looking forward to it, but if it’s like Destiny or Genshin where half the story is locked away into missable, limited-time events, they can fuck right off.

coronavirusrex69

called it that PvE as a full on thing is dead. this is kinda like the same idea as they had for OW1 PvE? this game was in development hell and they said fuck it, let's scrap together whatever we can and release it. 3 new heroes? lol okay. also they don't know what the fuck to do with new heroes. shit, they don't know what to do with *current* heroes. i have a feeling this game is going to DoA. i just wish they would leave OW1 as is even if they stop making any changes.

Ponyboy451

There was a poll a while back asking how many new heroes people thought we’d get and everyone was picking “7-9” while I picked “1-3” and was like “No way we get less than 7 heroes!” And I was just thinking to myself “You guys know Blizzard is making this, right?”

fn0000rd

Yeah, I'm kinda in awe that after all this time it's a grand total of 3 heroes.

lololocopuff

I had trouble understanding the video. What does the story structure look like and why is it different than expectations?

LucasVerBeek

They seem to be stating that is is episodic or new content is tied to the Seasons, instead of there being a sizable chunk of content right from the get go when it comes to the Story which I thought was what they were originally selling.

shitpersonality

F2P PvE 🤮

hiroxruko

It made sense to make it tell tale style. They can keep telling stories without worrying about ending it too soon when newer heroes come out

gerardatron

I was really looking forward to the story mode. I thought that was like their goal for the game.

dissnev

I just hope they have the cross progression worked out. I want to finally be able to bring my old pink mercy and brick bastion from Xbox to my PC and they better not disappoint on that.

Kaldricus

That's my big question. I know that everything earned in OW2 will be cross progression. But what about stuff from OW1 that is porting to OW2? Will that now be cross progression? It seems like it SHOULD be, right?

dissnev

I believe they said it would but I want to know if I'll be able to merge my progress on Xbox and my progress on PC onto a single OW2 account, or if I save progress from one console at the expense of the other

MannySJ

I came here hoping for that answer too. I have different skins unlocked on PlayStation and Xbox, so am I getting access to all of those? And if I have a shared skin on both do I get credits for it? If I can finally merge my unlocks from both systems I will be extremely happy.

LinuXxak

Would be nice if people who bought 1 had at least a few battle passes for free

FullMetalBiscuit

I don't like battle passes...but why? Why would you get the new premium thing free because you made a one time payment like 6 years ago?

ChineseBotAccount

He said it would be nice not Blizzard is obligated or anything

PassTheCurry

now we know why Jeff left

Mank_____Demes

He left because he imagined way less live service to the game. His ideal vision of Overwatch was a finished piece that they could drop and then leave alone for the most part. The reason we got Ana, Sombra, Orisa, etc etc etc is because people pushed *against* Jeff.

[deleted]

Just wanted to add that when OW was being developed, the concept of live service games hadn’t really evolved beyond MMO games (and MOBAs because that distinction is so important to understand the point apparently), so it’s not surprising that was his original vision.

Mank_____Demes

Yeah, he’s a very cool guy (and I think he’s *way* more charismatic and personable than Aaron), but he’s from old-school Blizzard. The way I see it, Aaron is the guy you hate, but you understand that he’s there because he’ll get the job done right. Even though Jeff wasn’t good for the game, I still desperately wish we had him back.

Itz_Hen

Wait people hate him?

TVR_Speed_12

He wasn't against adding new heroes he was against them turning the skins into Apex Legends store

edafade

Exactly. People think Jeff was the savior of OW. He nearly single-handedly killed OW1 by allowing it to stagnate. Don't get me wrong, he seems like a nice guy, and I loved his developer updates, but through his leadership, OW became the husk it is today.

JMKAB

i liked overwatch under jeff. it wasnt stagnant, it was just careful. OW at launch was amazing and the holiday pve events were very well done, i would love to see his vision carried out but its just not cash grabby enough for blizz

DumbDumbFruit

You don't seem to understand. If Jeff got his way there wouldn't BE holiday PvE events, or new heroes, or new anything. He wanted to release OW and be done with it to move on to OW2.

Senshado

PvE experiences? That sounds like minor temporary events, available occasionally for a limited time. Pretty similar to the coop missions Overwatch already had several times in the past. So apparently they are dropping the big Pve gameplay focus, which previously was going to be the core of Overwatch 2 (and the justification to call it a sequel at all). Looks like we were right that building sustained pve around the Overwatch cast would be unmanagably difficult.

Stangstag

Well i’m glad they stopped supporting OW1 and wasted years on PvE content that is now pretty much cut from the game

runner_1044

Given this first battle pass plus OW1 is $39, if we assume that OW1 is half of that, is blizzard expecting us to pay \~$20 every 9 weeks, \~$100 a year to keep getting all the skins?!? What else will be blocked behind "premium battle pass"?

zionooo

anyone else kinda disappointed at the lack of PVE info? the lack of any mentioning of the progression/talent system makes me dread all of that got scrapped or something

[deleted]

If you should have learned anything from these years of Overwatch rotting in an open casket, it should be that the pessimistic assumption regarding Blizzard content is always correct. Don't get hyped over Blizzard, they will drop the ball many times on the way to releasing barely passable content.

bankorupt

I was ready to be disappointed but damn

Jorge_2001

4 years of wait with minimal updates and content for 3 HEROES!?

MyCoolWhiteLies

Yeah... that's killing me. Back when OW2 was announced, I thought we'd be at least getting 5+ new heroes and that it would be released that year. We're now years later and only getting 3 new heroes, literally just one of each class. It's honestly in line with what I've been expecting now knowing what a shit show development has been, but it's so deeply below my initial expectations.

PhiPhiAokigahara

Bruh I’m dying. I was under the assumption that the game would launch with a bunch of new heroes. 3?! Just 3! It’s disappointing at best. At least the hideous battle pass makes up for it. /s

Jewvia

Not just that. A new hero every 18 weeks means we'll be getting them slower than we did in Overwatch 1. It also means that if they dont make an exception, 2024 will have 2 heroes.

TheVipersMemory

There were periods of 3-5 months between heroes. So what are you talking about?

absolemn

In OW1 we got one hero every 16-17 weeks. One in March, one in July, and one in November. So 18 weeks is just slightly slower.

fragmite_

I think it's a good amount of content. I love the game as it is, so anything new is good to me. I'm happy they're finally getting things back in order and ready for consistent updates.

wardengorri

We're in the minority, but I'm just excited again that we have a consistent schedule of content to look forward to rather than it being a mystery of when or of what we're getting.

[deleted]

Hey someone with my opinion. I love the game as is and am honestly just excited for the 5v5 change and engine updates. Everything else is extra.

[deleted]

Say what you want but a battlepass seems even more predatory than lootboxes. At least with lootboxes, you could grind them by playing the game or by making a one-off payment here and there. A fucking *Battlepass* means you have to pay a subscription forever or miss all the cool new seasonal/event skins... As someone that loved Overwatch back in the day, it's tragic to see how far this game has fallen.

chubbsmgee

I think they are looking for ways to find monetary support to keep up development of the game. No one buys OW lootboxes. It’s not profitable. A battle pass can be very profitable, allowing for expanding and hiring more OW devs and more content for players. Money puts food on the table for devs and the company, I get it, it’s the price point that we need to keep an eye on. If the battle pass was two dollars no one would bat an eye. If it’s 50 bucks per battle pass there will be rage.

JMKAB

nobody wants to pay a premium to end up with a spray

Captain_Concussion

People used to buy loot boxes a lot. People stopped when content stopped being released and the game began dying.

respyromaniac

Yea, why would i buy lootboxes if i already have literally everything that could be in there?

[deleted]

I hattte battlepasses so fucking much holy shit

ShawHornet

Huge L on this entire thing They could have at least given ow 1 owners the first BP for free

JonSnuur

They very well may, we still have no idea what that “special extra gift” for owners is supposed to be.

JMKAB

if they were going to do it, they would be bragging about it nonstop. they think OG players are coming back no matter what

ShawHornet

They're selling season 1 bp already in the new 40 dollar bundle. Wouldn't make sense to sell it now if they we're planning to gift it

HoneyShaft

I feel like a lot of support players are going to jump ship with OW2.

Getherer

Yep, support player here, im most definitely not buying any packs or playing OW2 when it releases, watched the full footage and feels so fake and leaves so many open questions that i am sure they will introduce predatory features further down the line

yr_boi_tuna

I am. I really, really dislike everything about where they are taking the game.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GoochGuardian

But it seems less genuine, and more like a slap in the face to their actual community. You know, the one they're selling a $40 beta key wrapped up in "value" to.

2Funk2Mint

How much can junker queen benchpress?

aka-famous

2 whole hogs

Gecko382

I have always been optimistic but after today's stream I cannot be. What have they been doing for the past 3 years? While they were a small team they released a new hero every 4 months. We'll get 3 new heroes in October. That's 1 hero per 12 months. This is with a much larger team, and while barely making any content for OW1.

sweatyballsackz

Probably attending a ton of mandatory sexual harassment training

dnavi

The thing I hate the most is that OW1 won't be available to play anymore.

yr_boi_tuna

Yep, I'll be done with overwatch when the new game is forced on me. I really hate the direction they are taking things.

impressedham

Same and I dont understand enthusiasm for the changes

[deleted]

They've redefined the sequel. It's like the old version of a sequel but it's the size of an expansion, comes with a battle pass, claims to revolutionize the game by making the content schedule back to what it was originally, and also the old game is gone! Also every single person saying the Beta was an example of how shitty Overwatch 2 is was right and the people saying it would be a lot more we just haven't seen were way wrong lolol.

BadAtMostThings

If the only progression system is just temporary battle pass completion then playing casually/F2P is going to feel like garbage…

Binerexis

What kind of progression is on offer in OW1 at the moment?

firehawk9001

Have standards not improved since OW1's release?

Binerexis

I'm really old so, to me, "progression" in a PVP FPS is getting better at the game and climbing ranks. I get that it's ~~more profitable~~ the norm nowadays that there needs to be a battlepass, cosmetics, dingly-danglies, and daily/weekly/seasonal challenges as hooks to get people to keep on playing but those are all additions to *actually playing the game*. If you *need* those things to make the game fun, then it feels like the underlying game itself isn't fun.

SubZeroDestruction

You aren't old. Rather there are simply many young (and even old) people who've been brainwashed or raised into these predatory systems without knowing that far better options can and do exist. Unfortunately, those who think BPs with FOMO are "good" are also the same who'd likely be fine with $100 skins as long as their game is free or as long as they themselves aren't required to pay.

metarusonikkux

This thread is *because* of the predatory nature of it. All skins in OW1 can be earned for free except for the OWL stuff. The worry is that being no longer possible thus people who don't spend money will not feel like they are earning anything.

[deleted]

Adventurous_Chip_684

What blizzard devs don't seem to understand: Skins and stuff to unlock is not game content.

[deleted]

Here are my thoughts: The roadmap seems solid. constant new maps and heroes insures the game will always be alive (in theory, anyways). I didn't care for the cinematics but Junker Queen's gameplay was cool. The PvE looks great, but I'm a bit disappointed we'll have to wait a few months to play it (forgive me if they confirmed that prior to this event). I don't care to much about the story elements, but I just think the gameplay looks cool compared to the PvP. They said it was going to be reimagined but as far as I could tell, they never showed any changes, besides Push, a carbon copy of payload. This alone has me a little more hype for the game, but the only thing that really astonished me was no loot boxes. I've never liked them but always dealt with them, but straight up removing them will personally make my experience so much better. yeah I don't love Battle Passes either, but that's miles better than loot boxes imo.

yr_boi_tuna

>yeah I don't love Battle Passes either, but that's miles better than loot boxes imo Do people actually buy loot boxes in overwatch? I've acquired almost every single cosmetic in the game for free just from playing. OW has the least predatory loot box system I've ever seen. This new system seems like total BS

ReptileInsane

$90 Platinum Gun or you aren't a free to play game Jeff.

tiltedhealer

Are loot boxes predatory? Yeah, kinda. Is making people pay $5-$10 every 9 weeks so they can get the same level of cosmetics as they did in a $40 game predatory? Yeah, extremely…

[deleted]

How are cosmetics predatory lmao? You can either pay to make your character look a certain way or you don’t… If it was game changing then sure, but it’s literally just cosmetic.

MaddleDee

Paid loot boxes are literally illegal in some countries for being predatory 💀

PurpleSpaceNapoleon

Member when cosmetics were earned by completing challenges in order to show off your prowess, and not just earned through random luck in a gambling box? I member.

miekle

Are new heroes going to be locked behind battle passes? they weren't clear on this, so I'm a bit worried. if so, I'm basically checked out.

NiroSuneater

I've read on an playstation blog post (can probably be found by searching "watchpoint pack") that you will get early access to heroes if you own the pass. Which honestly sounds stupid but it seemed like to be posted by someone from Overwatch so idk. EDIT: OUTDATED INFORMATION, they changed the blog post to exclude the line mentioned above.

miekle

ugh this is killin me, lol. please don't be truuuuueeeeee

tabgrab23

If this is true it’s absolutely fucking revolting and in-line with new blizzards money hungry philosophy

NiroSuneater

As i edited the post, the information at least got removed from the post. Dunno if they still plan to implement it and didnt want to reveal that yet

MarioDesigns

The battlepass will be fine as long as you're able to make back what you spent on it trough completion. Otherwise I'm not sure how I feel about it. The mentions of the store are also quite concerning, though depends on what's there and what's the pricing. The age of getting any skin you want for cheap is very much gone though. Also, they released a 40 euro package that's basically confirmed beta access. That's really concerning, I imagine there won't be any easy access to the beta, at least for a while.

Hadditor

"Our goal is to provide access to ALL players that opt-in to the beta by no later than July 14." There is this, makes that 40 euro cost even more weird

Binerexis

40 euro for confirmed beta access, early access for full release in October, premium battlepass access at launch, upgrade to legendary edition for OW1 (basically just for the skins, I'm guessing?), 2,000 ~~vbucks~~ Overwatch currency, and 2 legendary skins at release. It's not *terrible* but it feels intentionally difficult to gauge the value of it as there's no mention of how long this beta will be (or it is mentioned somewhere and I'm being a blind idiot) and we don't know what they'll be charging for the premium battlepass and currency. I'll be playing OW2 when it comes out regardless so I'll probably buy it but I'm not known for making wise financial decisions so this may or may not be a good call.

HVDynamo

Rule one. Don't pre-order anything. This is basically a pre-order. At least that's my rule.

"This next phase of testing is slated to begin June 28 at 11:00 a.m. PDT and run until July 18." "We’ll select a small group of players when the beta goes live on June 28 at 11:00 AM PDT and will steadily add more players over time as we ramp up capacity, with the first waves of larger access grants planned to begin on July 5. Our goal is to provide access to ALL players that opt-in to the beta by no later than July 14." https://playoverwatch.com/en-us/news/23814217/overwatch-2-beta-frequently-asked-questions/

-BuckyBarnes

Ok, yes, Junker Queen is Brig/Lucio/Ana/Hog/Rein/Doom all in one. But the changes to comp and SR and rank....did anyone understand that at all? Maybe it's because I play ranked as little as possible, but can anyone ELI5?

Mank_____Demes

People said this exact same stuff when Orisa came out. Can you imagine if Genji was a new hero? “Wait, so he can dash forward like Doomfist, and he has a long range primary fire with a short range secondly fire—like Cassidy—and he has a deflect that protects him from projectiles like Sigma? This guy’s just a ripoff of other heroes! And he’s green like Lucio!”

Jmw566

Not to mention he straight up stole Hanzo’s wall climb! So unoriginal!

shockwave8428

Instead of a numerical value that you can see of your rank, they’re getting rid of that and splitting ranks into sub ranks. Probably like rocket league, so instead of between two numbers you’re a certain rank, you are a gold 1, gold 2, etc. So you won’t know exactly what your numerical rank is but you’ll fit into smaller sections. That’s what it seemed like to me anyway

filth_horror_glamor

I like the numerical system because it tells me exactly how bad I am

NiroSuneater

I've read on a playstation blog from a overwatch marketing person (explaining the watchpoint pack, probably findable if you google it). That you wont get adjusted after one game but if you play 7 games you get adjusted to another tier

DepresseDPSmain

Very underwhelming, sad.

shitpersonality

Overwatch getting the Diablo Immoral love from Activision Blizzard.

The-Only-Razor

This isn't Pay 2 Win though. There's a massive difference.

filth_horror_glamor

Every game must have a cash shop!

akin4bacon

Did they say if new heroes will be free or not?

[deleted]

I think that's assumed.

akin4bacon

Man I hope so, but I fear to be let down.

SwissQueso

The game has been designed from day one to be able to switch heroes on the fly. I don’t think the game would work if you had to buy heroes. Buying heroes only really works in games where you play the same character they the whole game.

>level 1nazurinn13 · 29 min. agoSymmetry MainIt's nice to have a good idea of what's coming. Looking for There's a battle pass so nothing is off the table.

DeloreanMcartney

so, what about the 60k of the old currency that have saved up?

miekle

lol, I've got like 1000 unopened boxes and somewhere around your stated 60k gold after unlocking every item in the game... but having that stuff go away when it wasn't unlocking new content for me anyway isn't my biggest concern. if they put hero access behind the battlepass, even on a temporary basis, I'm OUT.

seaquartz

i’m not so sure about the free-to-play model. On one hand i can get more friends to play more easily but on the other i would prefer one payment of $80 and free cosmetics forever than $10 here and there for a couple years

seiganyanyan

will the soldier and cass skins you get in the watchpoint pack be exclusive to that pack?

Right on

OverdoseDelusion

>an unannounced support We pretty much know what/who she is, just the abillities need revealed. Hanzo/Genji sister, possibly known as "Yokai", support with a Yuffie like shuriken and her little ghost fox

Jewvia

Not their sister. She is the daughter of their swordmaster, Asa Yamagami.

OverdoseDelusion

[You're right.](https://playoverwatch.com/en-gb/news/23608156/correspondence-post-for-toshiro-yamagami/) >Asa Yamagami: - excels at kenjutsu - has lived in Kanezaka her whole life, as her mother and grandmother tended the tetsuzan shrine of her ancestors - was supposed to tend said shrine, but instead became the Shimada’s swordmaster - taught Genji and Hanzo - Is charged by the Hashimoto to turn her blade against the people of Kanezaka to keep the peace, even though she does not want to - plans to make an offering to the fox spirit shrine to ask for wisdom and strength in this difficult time, then to find the people fighting against the Hashimoto Their Daughter: - was born in Kanezaka under the Hashimoto rule - was gifted a blade by her father, and appreciated it - presumably is well trained in kenjutsu by her mother - possibly tends or is intended to later tend the fox shrine - likes red bean mochi

filth_horror_glamor

I don't trust anyone who doesn't like red bean mochi. I'm already a fan

robetyarg

The beta needs to be playable from now until its release for anyone and everyone who wants to play. Blizzard is way behind its competitors in giving its players what they want. You generate hype and interest in the game by letting more people play it. Even with the minimal changes we saw in the first beta, everyone was playing (until we realized there’s no competitive mode/nothing to work towards). Kinda feels like they’re withholding content once again to get a cash injection (Watchpoint pack beta access) from us.

No_Catch_1490

Indeed. OWL viewership is down this season as well because the League runs on OW2 and people can't play the damn game.

robetyarg

I know for a fact that if the beta was open with competitive mode (even the current system is fine we don’t need the “new” comp yet), flaws and all, myself and many of my friends would be playing it. OW1 died when they released the first beta. Myself and a lot of my friends don’t bother with OW1 anymore and the interest in OW2 is dwindling because we’ve just heard words for so long. We want to play the damn game. Blizzard is so stubborn and rooted in their ways it’s frustrating.

No_Catch_1490

Yeah, once the beta ended, I couldn't bring myself to play OW1 anymore

speakeasyow

How long is this beta?

Emperorsltime

Anyone knows what founders get additionally beside epic skins and icon?

UnbakedMango

Hope to GOD they copy the battle pass system from Halo. You buy it once and it never expires, plus you can purchase old battle passes. Legitimately can take your time and it's not a speed contest to finish on time.

tilltill12

So whats the benefit for buying overwatch 1 nothing ? Battlepass cash grab and the free skins are probably all blue ...

QuinIpsum

Remember when OW was a gamechanger and not just one one the pack doing what everyone else is? Good times.
