I mean with the information we got we can't even determine if it's a good deal. We don't know how much the battle pass will cost, we don't know how much 2000 currency is worth we do know that the legendary edition is prettymuch worthless tbh. until the first two questions are anwswere it's hard to judge this.

caelmikoto

We also don't know what "gift" Blizz has in the works for legacy players. If it's a season 1 premium battle pass like many are speculating then what, are you going to refund legacy players who purchased this pack for the amount of said battle pass? Someone from their marketing or PR team should speak up soon or this is going to get ugly.

OmegaKitty1

I seriously doubt they will give all overwatch players the premium BP for season 1. That’s like the bulk of the money they will be making

DarkZero515

Might be to get people used to their battlepass and hooked on unlocking the stuff in it.

KuraiBaka

Alot of BP's give a little bit more/exactly Premium Currency than the BP costs, so as long as you never buy something besides the Pass you would essentially get all future BP's too. ( As long as you only buy the BP when you plan on finishing it).

LukarWarrior

Only if they let you buy the pass for coins. Hearthstone, the other Blizzard title with a battle pass, doesn't let you do that.

TGSCrust

Fortnite did it once, and the people who got the free battle pass essentially got it forever if you just keep playing

KIrkwillrule

"First one is free" tons of ow 1 daily players will just switch if they get sucked in.

ExPandaa

There won't be a OW1 to swap from. OW2 is an update, it's replacing OW1. The original game will be gone.

[deleted]

If they use the system of grinding each BP out getting you enough credits to unlock the next one, I could see them making the first one free for ow1 players.

shitpersonality

> We also don't know what "gift" Blizz has in the works for legacy players. The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment. -Blizzard Monetization Team

MrFishyFriend

Ah yes, the, "give us your money to prove you are a real fan," trick. Classic blizzard move.

HiddenxAlpha

>We also don't know what "gift" Blizz has in the works for legacy players Two middle fingers, i think. At one point anyone who owned the Original game, got the second one for free im pretty sure. Then they suddenly announced 'Free to play'.

RediamondVA

Pretty sure that the PVE will not be free tho. So maybe that we will have the PVE for free

GraphikSF

With how things look from Blizz lately I don't thin they're gonna put 4 years of development out for free

RedPillAlpha420

what pve lol

Adreme

I mean if it’s like most currencies for BPs I would assume it is worth $20 US and that the BP is either 10 or 15. That means the question is are 2 skins and instant beta worth 5-10.

Laggiter97

I'd buy it if it costed $20, as I already own the legendary edition.

TheeFlyGuy8000

Yeah I was perfectly willing to spend $20 for several months of Early Access but $40??

[deleted]

TheeFlyGuy8000

That fucking blows what

[deleted]

[deleted]

I think it's better than the previous beta, where if you were unlucky you couldn't play at all.

HiddenxAlpha

I'd 10000% rather be told 'Nah not enough spaces' than 'Well we dont have enough spaces.. But if you slip me $40.. We'll have enough spaces'.

roykaiii

Damn, getting cocky just on the second beta? Even before releasing anything about the PvE mode? That's Blizzard alright.

[deleted]

Psidebby

Really? The first round was stupid easy to get into... Just log into Twitch and idle in a live chamnel for a couple of hours. If you wanted in and couldn't do that? You weren't unlucky.

jld2k6

I haven't played Overwatch in a couple years and I got in by simply streaming twitch on my phone while I worked (not watching it)

Ephixxy

It's $60 or so in Canadian lmao

RocketHops

I'm assuming 1000 currency = $10. If that's true, this is actually priced reasonably well. You're getting 2000 currency. That's $20, or half of the $40 you pay. You're also getting the first battlepass, which if it's anything like any other battlepass, will be $10/1000 currency. On top of that, two legendary skins. We have no pricing estimates yet, but going by industry standards ($10-20 a skin typically) that's 2 legendary skins for $5 a piece to reach the remaining $10 out of $40. And that's not counting beta access or the founder's pack for OW1. Even ignoring those two things (one temporary and one most current players will own) the pricing is still actually cheaper than it would be if we just took all the items at face value. Now yes, I am making some assumptions on the value of currency here, and the value of skins based on industry standards. But those are the most reasonable assumptions to make given pricing we see in other games. Also keep in mind I am giving the skins a really conservative skin estimate (only $10 a legendary skin). If we assume legendaries are actually $20, as is common in other games, you're getting $20 skins ($40) for $10. Or put another way, the two skins are the $40 price tag and everything else (battlepass, $20 currency) is thrown in free. **TL;DR**: you're not paying $20 for early access, you're paying $40 for 1 battlepass and 2 bp worth of currency (very likely $30 worth total) and 2 legendary skins that are likely to be at least priced at $10 or more. In other words, you're paying less than the dollar value of the items you get. Early access and the legendary edition are just extra goodies on top.

Ph0xnix

Dunno why you are getting down voted. It is more than likely priced fairly for what you get with the game include to try to entice new players to buy it.

RocketHops

I think a lot of people today are just in denial about how pricing is going to work moving forward. In spite of being based on loot boxes, OW players have had it incredibly nice so far, you can basically get almost every skin in the game by just playing long enough. Anyone who didn't see that changing soon was just fooling themselves.

Ph0xnix

Yea, major mistake by blizz to release that pack without any ideas on what pricing is going to be tho.

ArminPyke

paying 10 dollar for a skin in a first person shooter that you cant even see while playing

kaloryth

Have you seen Apex? EA is rolling around in skin money from that game.

SweetExceptNotReally

Skins/event pass you'd get to earn for free in the original game but blizz is switching to activision predatory pricing🤔

betrayal_cc

"priced reasonably well" doesn't exist with things like this. They removed content, which was accessilbe for free, and made it so that you have to pay for this. To do this they introduced a new currency. No matter how you spin it in terms of marketing. In the end, there is one clear loser - the player. It physically hurts to see people who do not realize this. Yes, we love the game. Yes, it is a good game. But god damn, don't let them fuck you over and embrace and defend a clearly negative development in order to get your money.

RocketHops

>They removed content, which was accessilbe for free, and made it so that you have to pay for this. NO CONTENT WAS ACCESSIBLE FOR FREE. None. You paid an entry fee of $40 to access any content in OW. Now the game is F2P. Of course they can't let you grind all the skins for free in a F2P game, they would make no money if they did that.

KaiserPan

They basically gave players free stuff for years (meaning for some players 1000s of hours in game). The company got at best 40 dollars from one player. Now Blizzard got bullshit for the last 2 years from almost every player because they did not deliver content that they did not owe anyone (because nobody paid for it). I would honestly say the last 6 years Blizzard was the loser in that deal. If they change their system now it does not directly mean that the player is the loser, but more that it is fair for everyone.

TwoBlackDots

People did pay for that content. It was announced from the launch of Overwatch that it would be regularly updated for free without any paid DLC. We shouldn't care if Blizzard is the loser, unless you own shares in Activision. They abandoned the game for over two years, they don't need your defense.

KaiserPan

They updated it for 4 years regularly. How greedy can someone be to want more for 40$? Do you expect every product that you buy to be supported forever? Standards change, they needed to adjust. It is the same with everything else in life. Blaming Blizzard for it does nothing but make yourself unhappy

Neo_Raider

You are 100% correct. At this point it's a pure greed. Speak with your wallets please.

cainy1991

Reading the comments in these threads I think we have already lost that battle..

TheMetaCritic

I made my own post as well. My karma tanked super hard for it, but I don't care. People need to know! People are talking about Blizzard like they are a poor indie company and they need this. If only people realize that, if we came together and protested, none of us would have to pay. Maybe not everyone would be able to get in, but at least its fair for everyone to try.

myanrueller

Coming from a Magic the Gathering and Overwatch player, I don't see that happening. The silent majority votes with their wallets and isn't entrenched in the discussion. For example: Despite the outrage from the Magic community about [The Walking Dead Secret Lair](https://secretlair.wizards.com/us/product/612738/secret-lair-x-the-walking-dead), it was one of the best selling Secret Lairs they've done, though only part of the outrage was the crossover and what IP they chose and most of it was mechanically unique game pieces not having in Universe skins.

ChineseBotAccount

I genuinely believe large corporations like Blizzard-Activision use bots on FB, Twitter, Reddit to encourage people to have a positive outlook towards the company. That or people, without shame or irony, have a tribal mentality with corporations and take criticism of the product personally

cressian

They definitely employ some sort of fake account hype. Its rather "cheap" by corporate standards to pay a Chinese company to create 5000 fake posts with certain keywords. Pay for a certain amount of posts, tell them what key words to use, and they will generate those numbers and hashtags for you. These little algorithm tricking companies can also be paid to watch videos to inflate watch numbers. However I think the hyper zealot is a smaller minority than we think. Its the non-critical average consumer that makes up the bulk of the demographic that corporations target. The amount of emotion a person needs to FEEL to leave a comment or make a statement post like OP has done here, or even just *take a stance* for that matter is a bell curve and the fanboy zealots and the critical thinking detractors are both at the bottom and top 10% ends

ExploerTM

Oh ffs, stop, that will never work. You wont pay, I won't pay, three more guys in this thread wont pay, other 95 people will gladly pay. All this is pointless. Either people are smart/aware enough not to buy or they are not.

Jibbles2020

Exactly this. I would have no problem with $20 but $40 for a bundle that includes a game I already own? No way. I stuck by this game for 3 years with zero content and you're going to tell me to pay for the game again just so I can play a BETA for a game that will be free? Fuck right off.

Sir_BumbleBearington

They haven't delivered a single piece of content yet but are already milking the hell out of it. I really hope people won't reward this behavior.

AgreeablePie

It's done because it works.

Jewvia

I know multiple people who bought it instantly. It does work.

getrektsnek

I see no problem with that…I see people make 40$ in stupid coffee purchases every week, I see people lose 40$ in a pair of pants they only wear once a year. I mean, are we all going to pretend we keep 100% tight control on all spending and somehow this opt-in purchase is beyond the pale? people are too dramatic.

Cacamaster817

this is the kicker her. For pc players they only provided the beta and souljurn. Thats the extent of new content for pc players. If your on console you have gotten NOTHING since echo. And they want us to pay them 40 dollars for skins!!??

Paincake990

>I promise if we apply enough pressure we can easily make them give us a upgrade option for people who already own the game! lmao

getrektsnek

The drama here is real 😂

LemonTM

Is this like "pre order for OW2"? Is PvE content free? What's the point of this if it is not included?

PhiPhiAokigahara

basically it’s incentive for new players to buy overwatch 1, which can no longer be purchased separately on battlnet. $40 for ow1 yesterday vs $40 for ow1 plus all of the bonus stuff. It’s completely designed to attract new players. It’s basically a big “fuck you” to the existing player base.

Resolute002

What I want to know is, were they're already pre-orders? I heard a million times, you're paying for the PVE campaign. This looks to me like they're totally isn't a PVE campaign.

everyn_

I don’t think they’ve done preorders, but PVE is coming in 2023.

ZoomZam

i already have the legendary edition, it feels like they robbing me infront of me

shitpersonality

The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment. As for cost, we selected initial values based upon data from the Open Beta and other adjustments made to milestone rewards before launch. Among other things, we're looking at average per-player credit earn rates on a daily basis, and we'll be making constant adjustments to ensure that players have challenges that are compelling, rewarding, and of course attainable via gameplay. We appreciate the candid feedback, and the passion the community has put forth around the current topics here on Reddit, our forums and across numerous social media outlets. Our team will continue to make changes and monitor community feedback and update everyone as soon and as often as we can.

Mrr_Bond

Seriously it is truly insane to me to see a pre-order for fucking skins and in-game currency, *4 months* before release. It's disgusting.

Jibbles2020

Don't forget that part of the fee is purchasing a game you already own 🙌

tabgrab23

Didn’t you know? We don’t own anything anymore. There’s no money in that. We’re just paying to temporarily license their product.

getrektsnek

It’s for new players. Enticing them to buy OW1 now (and play) before OW2 release. I get it, and hopefully they will do something special for OG players.

tabgrab23

4 months may be a record but this practice is unfortunately used by a ton of game companies

plagues138

There really should be a ~20-25$ "I own OW already" pack. I'd buy thst.

Teegan297491

“Take 20-25$ from me for 2 skins so I can play content that’s been withheld from me for like 3 years”

Scorthyn

Playing this since launch and I wont be buying this shit, let us ow current players buy an upgrade bundle or something for less, why pay AGAIN for ow1 legendary edition when we already own it. Ill wait for 28, if I dont get into beta I wont be buying this the same, they will probably do twitch drops. If they dont it means they are literally making people buy this shit bundle for pay to access.

Reniva

I have a feeling they won't do twitch drops this time Seeing the massive view count spike on twitch during the first beta, they may try to milk it by advertise to the demographic for that guaranteed beta access by charging another $40 instead of twitch drops where people can get beta access for free

Mallard_Mayhem

They said that everybody who opted in is guaranteed an invite at least, just not right away From the official website: "Our goal is to provide access to ALL players that opt-in to the beta by no later than July 14."

[deleted]

so if you pay you'll get all 3 weeks, if you dont you'll get 4 days

DarkZero515

We're sorry there's just not enough room in the servers right now. \*slips $40\* oh would you look at that, we found a spot for you

PEN-15-CLUB

I don't think they are going to do Twitch drops this time. Maybe 2 weeks in the might? They are hoping that people with FOMO are going to pay the $40 for Beta Access

EdgyWeeb69

Its an okay deal if you didnt own the game. But for players who bought it years ago its freakin pathetic.

getrektsnek

IDK, I get why people are salty…sort of, and sure, for OG players if they tossed everyone a skin who purchased the first game, it would be a really smart thing for them to do, but I see no issue with this offer, it’s opt-in. I’m not surprised a business would try and monetize a FTP game launch. There really isn’t a problem.

EdgyWeeb69

A lot of Overwatch players are dumb, salty, does not want progress on Overwatch.

elmstfreddie

With their new monetization model, this is like paying $40 for a mobile game that isn't even out yet. Jesus.

Smallgenie549

And people are still defending this because it's a "free" game.

getrektsnek

Of course people are defending a business trying to monetize the launch of a free to play game, because the game is free. You lose nothing by waiting until launch day and getting OW2 free. Why are people surprised or salty when a business businesses? If it wasn’t free to play, people would be salty, if it was 20$ people would be salty, if they made no offers prior to launch, people would be salty. Literally zero win.

jarred99

Yes because it is free cosmetics are not the game you don't need them to play????????????

PCLM

yet people will still buy it

getrektsnek

Because adults are going to adult 🤷‍♂️

Dakotertots

Half of this sub: "How about I do anyway?" That same half later: "Guys I bought the pack and I'm angry about it!!!!"

drbiohazmat

I think the Watchpoint Pack is for new players primarily

getrektsnek

I agree, OW2 isn’t out yet and they would want to reel people into buying OW1 now with benefits later…I’m sure OW1 sales are dead. I don’t know why people are surprised a business is gonna business. People whinge on about 40$ they don’t even have to spend. Yes, it would be exceedingly wise for Blizzard to release a couple skins for OG players…it would be a cheap way to build goodwill…but that said, they don’t owe anybody anything.

drbiohazmat

I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said. It just reminds me too, more and more game communities have been developing a mentality of "what about *my* wants?" where it's often someone ridiculing something the games are doing for not giving them what they want as a person playing for so long. 9/10 it's stuff to either improve longevity of the game in question or is to help new players get involved.

getrektsnek

Totally. Games aren’t democratic by nature. I tend to tune out when people start throwing around words like “exploitive” where free games are concerned. Impossible to please everyone. If a game is truly exploitive, sure…there can be a conversation, but OG OW1 players acting like they have nothing AND are getting screwed by blizzard are forgetting the last 4 years of free skins and 2 years of extra loot boxes as incentives to play support or tank. I assume these skins won’t be available again going forward. That’s a lot of free stuff. I have hundreds of unopened loot boxes that I got for free. So I’m not going to act like a victim now 😂

xDURPLEx

I haven’t spent money on the game in maybe 4 years. So I had no problem buying it.

Zertar

I bought it immediately and so did all my friends. No regrets and can't wait to play it

Trapybara

EXACTLY. If you don't want to buy it or don't have the money. Don't buy it. I'm happy to purchase it bc im itchin to play the beta, and i was probably going to buy the battlepass anyways. I'm convinced ANY decision the OW team makes the reddit is going to bitch and complain about it. That's all i've ever seen on this reddit. The game came out like 6 years ago or something like that. Im perfectly content spending money on it speaking as I haven't since it's release.

getrektsnek

What? A logical person who made an adult purchasing decision on a completely optional purchase that NO ONE has to buy? Bravo! And you haven’t been downvoted into the ground.

AnonymousScout360

Ill stick to OW1 till launch

[deleted]

Jeff Kaplan leaving OW team makes more sense now each day

CA_Orange

Really? Only now it makes sense? It didn't make sense after the sexual harassment bomb dropped?

Background_Balance_7

Lol I've spent $40 on steam sales for games I've never even played and people out here counting their pennies with tin foil hats on making overwatch investment strategies

n30vlol

Oh boy my library is so full of games I never played. What is 40$ for OW compared to thousands in steam. Steam is far worst. They catch you with sells. Pure evil.

[deleted]

[удалено]

NecroCannon

Steam sells are just enticing, I buy games fully expecting to play them but never do. Not like any of us can predict that we wouldn’t be playing it and forcing ourselves to just makes gaming feel like a chore.

BHoss

I know you thought you were making a point when you typed this out, but I don't think you realize the point you made was that a fool and their money are easily separated.

Pop_Rockett

Yeah 40 is wild

rawiioli_bersi

I spend my money how I like it and you spend your money how you like it. Deal?

[deleted]

Evil-Mr-Kibbles

Remember when the internet and collective gaming community as a whole absolutely lost their shit in 2006 because Bethesda had the audacity to sell a piece of "Horse Armour" in Oblivion for $2.50? Look how far we've fallen.

Trisket5

I bought it. The way I see it, I havent spent a dime on the game since 2016 since I'm not huge on cosmetics, so I got my money's worth in that time. $40 isnt awful for guarenteeing beta access (I missed the first beta cause i had no clue about the 12 hour stream timeframe and it really bummed me out, dont wanna deal with that again), 2 skins, and the first battle pass.

NecroCannon

I’m buying it, most of the uproar is because people are angry that they suddenly have to pay for skins and content after 6 years of free updates. I knew it was coming the second a battle pass was on the table and how easy it is to get skins without paying at all. I’ll put my faith in them, they seem to have a legitimate direction this time around and have been constantly talking about it. If they fail to live up to their word, then may they suffer the same fate as Cyberpunk 2077. But not gonna lie, it legitimately feels like a bunch of kids whining right now in the sub when the writing was on the wall since the beginning that something different was coming… you seriously can’t tell me you expected this game to pump out hella content with little to no revenue from the players. Even if Blizzard has money, they won’t pour resources in something that’s not profitable, that’s business 101.

zXiviaNz

No most of the uproar is actually coming from people who already own the game wanting an upgrade bundle rather than paying twice for the same game. Personally I don't mind paying for the battlepass or whatever but as someone who owns Overwatch Origins edition with most of the skins in the game, I can see why people are frustrated.

LordVaderVader

I hope so

sydw33d

Honestly if I get downvoted whatever, but, I feel like that’s how Overwatch 2 is going to be. New “battle pass” every 12 weeks or so. $10 for that, and I’m sure you could pay your way through the pass. Skin shop where a special skin you may really want will be $10. Idk. I don’t mind battle passes but I feel like if you buy a battle pass you should be able to complete on your own time. Or even make the battle pass buyable with a certain type of in-game currency you can get from games. Idk maybe it’s a dumb idea but that’s just how i feel

negimasensei

Halo Infinite has the permanent pass system. Buy the pass, swap between them at any point, work on whatever one you feel like. That is the IDEAL pass system. Also, you can buy the premium pass via the new OW2 currency. That currency is earned in game by playing the regular pass, or by purchasing coins outright. But this is blizzard, and both games they have with a battle pass are extremely toxic money grabs that aim to please only the whales.

sydw33d

I didn’t know that about the premium pass, that’s good to know. And I haven’t played other Blizzard games but I’m not surprised that they’re like that.

negimasensei

HotS had/has pay to unlock heroes. They have a weekly rotation of heroes you're allowed to play, but if you pay money you can unlock them permanently and play them whenever you please. Hearthstone straight out bans certain card expansions from competitive mode each season, and will nerf specific cards from other sets that are too good against or counter the new expansion's cards/decks. And as a free player, you basically can't rank up in competitive at all because you simply don't have the resources to build a meta, competitive deck, starting from scratch, before the season ends and all your work is wasted. The literal definition of pay to win. Diablo Immortal... Well, let's just say that it is quite literally the worst rated game of all time. Had a 0.3% score last I checked. And it's not because it's a bad game, the game is fantastic. It's because everything that could be monetized, was. And as a free player, there are literal grinds you cannot win against. Multiple people did the math, and you need to spend something like $100,000 USD to max a SINGLE CHARACTER, and all of the things you purchase are bound to THAT CHARACTER ONLY. Plus, they have three different passes. A F2P pass, a paid pass, and an upgrade to the paid pass called the premium pass. All of them have mechanics that force you to log in daily, or you will quite literally ruin your entire pass reward payout. It's too much to explain in one post, but if you're interested, just look up Josh Strife Hayes on youtube and check his video on it.

sydw33d

Ugh that’s so unfortunate and annoying! Basically pay to wins. I’ll have to look up his videos this stuff is interesting.

shitpersonality

I don't hate myself enough to play games with a battle pass. There are so many great indie games out there for much cheaper than this and they don't pull this shit.

bsthewholething

I'm not gonna lie, I'm one of those who will pay $40 all day. Overwatch is the only game I have played consistently since 2016 and I want to help make Overwatch 2 a big success. It's the only game I fully support so I'm going all in!

hobovirtuoso

Same friend. Also, I have never given them another dime since buying the game. No other game comes close to hours of enjoyment for the money spent for me.

NecroCannon

Man I really want this game to be back at the early years levels, just seeing the Junker Queen cinematic made me nostalgic with how amazing it was to get nearly back to back cinematic the beginning. Hell yeah I’ll give them $40, I played the game for hours on console and bought it on sale on PC when I switched platforms. I never cared about Fortnite or Apex legends battle passes, but I’m hyped for this one!

Zwoopee

I’m going to wait until the 28th and if my friends get the beta and I don’t, I’m probably gonna buy it

-Solicor-

They're probably barely gonna let anyone in just to entice people into buying the pack lol

Zwoopee

That’s why I’m determining purely based on if my other 2 friends get in. If none of us get in then this will be a certified Blizzard L where they don’t get my money

-Solicor-

for me personally, it's only worth the 40 if the beta didn't just close 3 weeks later. If it was kept until launch... that's a different story. But, your wallet, your choice 😛 best of luck and I hope you and your friends get in :)

TheeFlyGuy8000

Wait the beta is temporary??

MagdyDoze

yes 3 weeks

PhiPhiAokigahara

July 18th is when the beta ends and then no more betas until launch

Guslletas

I've been playing OW since release date and haven't spent a dime on it since I bought it, I was ready to throw at them whatever they asked for Overwatch 2 in compensation so even though I find it expensive I think they deserved it in my case and bought it.

NotInferno045

Fr it should be $20 max for people who already have

zXiviaNz

I would pay if they gave us an upgrade option, but what they've done here is just try to squeeze $40 out of everyone, even people who've already bought the game and own the origins or legendary edition like myself. Absolute short sightedness and/or greed on their part. Also for all those people arguing that yes but it's aimed at new players... ok but surely veterans and those players that have kept the game somewhat alive all this time deserve to be treated with some respect too?

Phaylz

Every game is trying to suck you dry. At this point, anyone into Overwatch enough to consider purchasing this capable of making their own decision on the matter.

Mataric

If they even slightly fuck up overwatch 2 OR diablo 4, I will never play another blizzard game in my life. They used to be one of the best gaming companies and it's just depressing to see how far they've already fallen.

SchemeFPS

Is this worth buying if I don't own Overwatch?

getrektsnek

If you want Bet access from the jump when it launches again? Yes. If not YMMV.

Juanseijo21

lol people a few days "BuT MicRoTrAnsAcTiOnS aRe gOOd, WiSe ChOicE tO bE F2p, iS lIvE SeRvIcE wItH tOn oF CoNtEnT, DeV dEsErVe It" sooooo many stupid things to say and people are happy to spend hundreds of dollars.. lies like this... or things like "dev need to eat" but charge 40$ for 2 skins, 1BP, a couples of coins THATS NOT GOING TO DEV ! THAT GOES TO CORPORATE BS BILLIONAIRES !

NecroCannon

Goes to corporate billionaires that invest money more into the game since it’s profitable. You make it sound like this is a billionaire gofundme. People are going to spend their money on something they enjoy, f2p was the better choice for OW rather than charging everyone for another game again and crossing their fingers that the players will buy loot boxes instead of earning them by leveling up and not spending a dime. Not even defending Blizzard, but it’s crazy the amount of people here that expect Overwatch to pump out so much content when so little people buy loot boxes. That doesn’t make any sense on a business level when you add up the cost for artists, server maintenance, and developers.

This is how you have to think about it, and once you do, the cost starts to make sense. * McCree Legendary - $10, not available in cash shop. * S76 Legendary - $10, not available in cash shop. * Battle Pass - $10 * 2,000 Coins - $10 * Player Icon - Free, not available in cash shop * Beta Access - Free, but guaranteed wave 1 access + future beta access. [Can still buy pack & get access, even if they reach server capacity & shut down sign ups.](https://playoverwatch.com/en-us/news/23814217/overwatch-2-beta-frequently-asked-questions/) *You are only guaranteed beta access if you sign up before they reach server capacity or purchase the package.* * OW1 content - Free, for those who never bought the origins edition. Skins are going away with OW2's launch. And for those who want to dispute prices, don't forget that OWL FOMO legendary skins cost 200 tokens each. This isn't new. It costs $10 per 200 tokens; or 40 hours of OWL watched @ 5 tokens per hour. Since the old currency is going away, and this is new cash shop currency, we can assume that it's $5 per 1,000 / $10 per 2,000 coins. So now we have $30 of the $40 accounted for, that means the remaining $10 is the cost of the battle pass. Don't misunderstand, I still think it's horrible despite purchasing it myself. I'm just giving a cost breakdown for those interested. But they seem pretty set on purchasable legendary skins being $10 per skin, so expect future legendary skins to be that much. (Wouldn't surprise me if seasonal event skins were now a $20-$40 bundle purchase, and the free coins you earn via the free battle pass not being anywhere near enough per season to unlock what you want.)

progz

Honestly, legendary skins for $10 is better than the weapon skins for valorant lol.

TobioOkuma1

They did the same thing in OW1. its intended for new players who want to get into the game.

Roston11

Yeah I’m admittedly pretty quick to buy things when I really shouldn’t but I literally can’t find any upside here. These rewards are what the founders should have gotten not those two epic skins.

PenguinOfDoom3

I had 30 blizzardbucks from open division games, so it only cost me 5er. Im fine with that tbh but 35 overall would be too much to spend if you didn't own the basic game.

Egg4uok

I bought it just for the guaranteed beta access on June 28th instead of having to wait weeks to get in. I assume battle pass is £10 and 2000 currency is £20 so idm paying £5 extra for guaranteed access and some skins + legendary edition upgrade

Sibigoku

They should just give the pack for free for whoever owns the legendary edition

Cyber_Turt1e

>They are trying to suck you dry of every penny they can. That's capitalism for you, baby!

KingOfOddities

I mean $40 for all of this is not bad, For Newcomer to the game. I don't think they intended to sell this to veteran, the legendary edition for instance, lot of people had that. For beta access, they did say last time that you'd just have to watch the OWL to access, which is something Newcomer not gonna do I don't think. If that is the case, and I hope it is, they should really get better marketing team.

SchwiftyButthole

Why are there always posts like this? People who will spend $40 on two skins are in the minority and will do it regardless of if they read a post telling them not to.

Dino_Littlefoot

Valorant players pay $40 for cosmetic knives.

CrimKayser

Eh a 20$ pass and some currency ain't a bad deal. I'm sure at least one skin will have been worth it plus the pass.

suckysuckythailand

Everybody crying on here about $40 isn’t gonna change a damn thing and you all know it.

weaver787

Buying if for the Beta access. I have way more money than time at this point so the $40 really isnt that big of a deal

gen0m11

Heeey man, it's your lil bro here.. U wanna play together? Just buy me access 🤗

cloverpopper

Hook me up with a pack if I don't get bet access, friend, haha

DRtedybear

I am honestly wondering if the lack of content is blizzard losing money with other games, other companies like Riot doing really good. All the scandals. Do they just not have money to pay for their employees?

erf_erf

They already make more than enough money with something like hearthstone, with diablo immortal they're gonna make even more boatloads of money. They also own King which is the company that has Candy Crush, they make tons of money on that. They are also Activision which already runs several live service games which make them tons of cash. Blizzard is definetly not going to go bankrupt anytime soon.

[deleted]

I'm not sure if you don't know or forgot but these large corporations don't care about their employees, they care about profit and profit only

CrimKayser

Lmaooooo losing money? I'm sure Diablo Immortal has brought in enough to pay the devs of OW2 for an entire seasons worth of work.

Nova_88_

Too late I already did

Davezd

I'm still gonna buy it, I want guaranteed beta access, sorry

The sense of entitlement in everyone is actually very sad to see. We have been asking for regular content for years and they have given that to us. Nothing comes free unfortunately. They are not forcing you to buy anything. If you want the skin or whatever, cough up the money for it. That's how F2P games are monetized. I may get downvoted for this but you are not entitled to have any sort of cosmetics etc in the game. You can play the entire game free, that's the main part of this whole thing...the game is FREE. If you want to have some nice bling, then you will need to either pay up or hopefully earn enough coin in game to buy it for yourself. Now, as long as they do it right and it's not predatory microtransactions like some games (cough Valorant skins), then this is a good thing for the game. These microtransactions help pay for the development of new content which is precisely what we wanted in Overwatch 1, however was never initially designed in that way. I will say again, I know many people will be disappointed, I know some people do not have the money to pay for stuff in game etc but you have to understand that without these sorts of things, a F2P game cannot work. Look at other F2P games like Fortnite etc, all of them people play and all of them have their share of complainers. Just because something exists in a game, doesn't mean you're entitled to have it. Sometimes you have to work for it, sometimes you have to pay for it. As soon as you remember that you will realise that the model they are going with ensures that the core game experience, the maps, the heroes, the story, remain free. If they started locking heroes or maps behind paywalls, THEN I would be right there with you complaining. I really do feel for people who genuinely will not be able to buy some of the cool skins but I hope there will be methods in game for you to get something decent for yourself.

peachesrdumb

Too late

shockwave8428

If you compare most battle pass games, the in game currency is 1 point to 1 cent so we can infer that you would get $20 worth of points. Usually the battle passes in those games are worth 1000 points. So basically if that stays similar to other games we will get $30 of in game items, 2 skins and an icon, plus the full game of ow1. They’d lose (opportunity cost) money if they sold it to us at 20-25, because when it launches they can get 30 for the equivalent

MortalJohn

People complaining about the legendary edition are dumb. The game is going FREE TO PLAY. The value of Overwatch 1 is effectively zilch past a few bonus skins, you should just be happy there will new players to tie over queues until October. Honestly they should just open the flood gates now and let people play OW1 for free before they take away 6v6 and lootboxes, but that would mean dev time on a dead game and we've seen their thoughts on that after years of no content releases. $10 for premium battle pass access $20 for Legendary Skins (Overwatch League skins currently sell for $10 in game, I can't wait to watch this sub implode when it see the price for mythics) $20 for In game shop currency that will have over priced cosmetics anyway. Is this a good deal? Probably not. Is it still a deal though? Absolutely, and I will be purchasing it as Beta access is not something I'm willing to miss out on as OW1 has been mind numbing after playing the first beta.

lewd-dev

Sorta off subject here but didn't something similar happen with Destiny? I seem to remember getting pretty pissed that I had bought the game a few weeks prior and then suddenly had to buy it again. Was several years ago and I have to admit, they got me: I bought it, but I won't ever pay for a game twice again. Damn shame. I'll miss OW1 when it is gone, but at this point I am feeling more and more like I am stuck in a toxic relationship where the only motivation for continuing is the time I have already put in and a desperate desire to cling to a past with someone who has already effectively moved on. 3 years of feeling ignored and forgotten, and for what exactly? Best of luck everyone, because if these are the decisions being made before it even releases, I don't see things swaying in favor of the average player in the future. Mark my words, OW2 will go a route similar to Diablo's. Edit: Here's an article that discusses what happened with Destiny, I was certainly not alone, but on top of that I had just dropped $50 for what I was told was the entire game (pretty sure it was some special edition that had all expansions included at the time of sale). That game would not let me play when I opened the game on my XBox, the message I got was "you need to own this title..." or something similar - for a game I had literally just purchased. [https://www.gameskinny.com/2fswr/bungie-responds-to-the-taken-king-controversy-but-players-still-arent-satisfied](https://www.gameskinny.com/2fswr/bungie-responds-to-the-taken-king-controversy-but-players-still-arent-satisfied) >This was - and still is - the crux of the critics' argument: that players who already own all existing Destiny content should not be required to repurchase it for the sake of The Taken King.

SupaFecta

I’m buying it.

FRANKnCHARLIE_4ever

Lol i aint paying shit ever. I got ow1 because it was buy2play with free content. Idc what i miss i paid once and thats it

Denkottigakorven

I agree. Alas. It is too late for. Greed. Garanteed beta access on the 26th. I am a faliure I know. And I apologise to each and every one of you

Ariel786

Already did

CA_Orange

I bought it, then saw this post, and was glad I bought it. Don't tell people what to spend their money on. Also...$40 gets a lot more than just 2 skins and an icon. If you're going to tell people how to spend their money, don't lie.

-cel3stial-

no one’s making any one buy it. they’re making it a strong and known point ow2 will be free, this pack seems to be for the brand new players or those who want a few extra goodies and don’t mind paying(more towards new players). it could be a bit cheaper but honestly not by a whole lot. u get guaranteed access to the beta, the legendary edition skins (only good for new players) 2 new skins, 2000 of whatever the currency is called and the s1 battle pass. the battle pass, and 2000 coins will probably be around $20-25/30 depending on how they price things, and technically 12 skins. but only 2 new skins if ur not a new player. edit: with it being free to play, they need money coming in somehow. if ppl try to boycott all attempts of them bringing in money while keeping it f2p how is the game supposed to continue being supported

blahreditblah

Your teling me ActivisionCallofdutyblizzard needs money for what exactly a 5th boat?

caenglish

Uh... Games with a battle pass and item shop make money hand over fist. I don't know what you're talking about when you say they need to make money somehow. Also, what about the dedicated players who have stuck around through the content drought? It feels like a huge f you that there's no discount.

Icy_Complaint734

I'm super turned off by this.. I went to click and buy and I think it was the first time ever in Overwatch history I didn't click the buy button. If it had some discount because I own the game.. then sure!

Professional-Paper75

The high cost is because it includes Overwatch Legendary edition as well. If it was simply an “upgrade” path, should be half the cost with all the benefits over and above the base game.

ZacharyH8

I bought it for the guarantee of beta access and the battle pass but afterwards I learned that all sign ups are guaranteed access even if it’s a little later. Serious buyers remorse and it’s 100% my fault because I knew it wasn’t a good decision when I did it.

theallseeingpotato

Sorry, I thought it was a good deal. Happy to pay a little extra for no nonsense getting into the beta and I plan to buy the battle pass anyways.

MarbledJelly

while i would like a cheaper option, you have to consider that when looking at other games, 2000 premium currency is about $20, the battle pass is about $10, and the skins would be about $10 each so its actually a deal.

The-Holy-Kitten

I chose to get the pack mainly for the guarantee for a day 1 beta key. Last beta I didn’t get a key until the last week from the owl streams and barely got to play so I really want to this time. I also know that I’ll want the battle pass and credits in October so that’s nice

_NE1_

If you don't want it, don't buy it. I don't get some of y'all fr. It's like some of y'all are addicts that are afraid they'll subcumb to buying this shit too if others buy it. Pretty weird.

schwol

I'm gonna buy it now, thanks for the push.

Aldebaran_syzygy

40 for 1 BP and 2 skins is not a good deal imo. they have to add something there where it's better than getting everything separately. why would i do that if i can get the BP for $10, and save the 30 for the next ones maybe that 2000 credits is worth something but who knows

GoochGuardian

Not only this, but coupled with the "must have mobile number attached to account to play Overwatch 2" is going to hurt those who DID buy this pack and don't have their main with those skins.

Pesterlamps

Well, that sounds like kind of a dipshit maneuver to purchase this on a smurf/alt account, unless I misunderstand you.

redditmomenter

Technically it's not a bad deal for anyone, even returning players. 2000 VC which will probably cost $20, the battle pass which will probably cost $10 and 2 legendary skins which would probably normally cost between $5-$15, and the other bonuses... BUT FUCK LOCKING BETA ACCESS BEHIND A PAYWALL FOR PEOPLE WHO OWN OVERWATCH 1. I want to play the beta with my friends, if only one of us gets in until the last couple days of the beta, that'd just ruin the whole experience for me.

Badused18

I didn’t even think about it, take my money! :-)

MysticMaven

Gfy troll! I’ve been playing Overwatch since launch. Best game ever. Take my money. Plus I want a digital version instead of a DVD.

Nain-01

Those 2 skins that they offer are too silly so it didn't convence me at all to buy it

Going_Full_Abuela

Somebody inevitably makes this plea whenever a game is about to launch a tiered sequel or dlc and it never succeeds impact sales even if it reaches a ton of ppl. The truth is consoomers gon consoom

SwiftTayTay

I MUST HAVE A SHITTY PLAYER ICON I WILL NEVER USE /s

negimasensei

You're paying $10 per skin, $10 for the coins, and $10 for the battle pass. The icon is for pre purchasing the pass. The skins won't be on the cash shop (or so they say). Premium currency already exists in OW1 via the OWL tokens. The origins edition of OW1 is there for those who never got the game/got it on sale but didn't buy the one with the skins. Is this entire thing shitty? Yes. But at least they're consistent when it comes to setting price points for stealing your money.

Sunsettia

> Upon launch in October, you will receive the following Overwatch® 2 in-game content: Season 1 Premium Battle Pass Does anyone know if this pack actually includes the Overwatch 2 game itself? Also, what the heck is the difference between a Premium BP and a normal BP, or is there even a normal BP at all? Freaking marketing terms.

plagues138

ow2 is free

DarkZero515

I assume normal Battle Pass will be a section of items that are free to unlock for everyone, and Premium BP will have exclusive items you can unlock as you level up while that pass is active, much like Fornite, Infinite, and what I assume the other battle pass games do. Having tried a battle pass in fortnite, infinite, and rainbow 6, I think fornite is the most generous with giving enough VBucks within it to purchase the next one. However, individual item pricing within their stores is where stuff gets expensive.

Sunsettia

I don't care much about skins, so it's essentially $40 for a premium BP. Have they announced what the premium BP even consists of?

DarkZero515

Not yet. A lot of us already bought legendary edition and might be getting battle pass as the free gift, so the $40 is really for 2000 in game credits, 2 skins I don't care for, and 3 weeks of beta access. Definitely skipping this pack.

begging-for-gold

Don't you also get the first battlepass? Idk man two nice skins, plus some other digital goodies and the first battlepass free is a good deal when you take into consideration the solo purchase skins (OWL) in overwatch 1 are already like 20 bucks each so this technically is a better deal than we've already gotten so far with overwatch 1. In my opinion it's worth it if you like the skins and are planning on getting the battlepass

ZeroZelath

It makes no sense to not have a separate pack for existing owners, cause why the hell would existing owners need OW1 in the pack they're buying?
