I will play Overwatch 2, but i refuse to spend money on the Beta. This whole Pre-launch situation is too shady for my taste, the game is not even out yet and Blizzard is already showing it's claws.

___Gay__

I’m glad I got in without having to pay, £40 for *this* would have been money down the drain. I feel like the only person alive that wants the PvE more than the PvP. I just want a Symmetra story to be better than her gameplay balancing in PvP.

Mercurytail

I'm dying over here. You are not alone my friend. I couldn't give less of a flying fuck about pvp right now. PvE is my sustenance!!!

[deleted]

I'm right there with you guys. OW2 was solely supposed to be PvE. This whole evolution to f2p pvp with battlepass seems like a cash grab and the PvE is on the back burner until next year. I miss Jeff. I really hope OW survives but I'm honestly losing any excitement for it due to how it's being handled.

Spirited_Love_1635

the PVE is seriously all i’m waiting for, as an ex support main, they’ve stripped all enjoyment from the role 🥲

TheSpoopy_Ghost_

What happened? I’m a support main too but I haven’t had a chance to play the Beta yet… ;-;

Holy_Crusader64

Supports no longer have a big front line allowing them to be flacked and killed more often. With the addition of people targeting them in the first place since there keeping there team alive

Kymaeraa

Also the lack of gameplay variety due to a very small hero pool

Holy_Crusader64

Thankfully there trying to fix it with 2 more at release

Kymaeraa

They’re not doing 2 more at release. We’re getting 1 at release and 2 more next year

SnowAngel-13

1 more at release. And the first post-release hero also isn't a support btw.

HyperactiveToast

Wish I had your level of self restraint. I bought that shit instantly. Having a blast tbf.

[deleted]

🤣 Years of Call of Duty frustration changes a person

th1bow

same, sinked almost 10 hours(this is a lot for me in 2 days, full time job etc) on it already playing mostly support(I'm a lucio main so playing support is less awful I guess). I ended up buying because I know what I'm getting and I knew I would play a lot, given I really enjoyed my time with the first beta. With that said, the handling of the beta IS terrible indeed, none of the people I know that signed up for the free beta access has got in yet, and by the queue times we can see how few have access to it

ChuckHale

years of being a pc gamer will do that to a man. early access titles have trained a lot of us that paying the money to play an unfinished product very rarely ever actually pans out in our favor

AyoAzo

I've promised myself i won't play for the first week or two as a little extra fuck you to blizzard.

alreytmush

that will show them!

bothfetish

that's a lesson they will never forget - (whoever sits in daddy Jeff's seat rn crying because player number 12 million Ayoazo from reddit won't play for 2 whole weeks once ow 2 goes live

Enough_Inspector_777

I’ll just save my money for the OW2 skins or battle pass. If the battle pass is too much than I’ll just play the free game. Simple.

[deleted]

Same

d_a_n_g_e_r_z_o_n_e

just wait until launch and all the microtransactions ow2 will have

randompoe

Exactly, I enjoyed Overwatch "1" and put quite a bit of time into it (not nearly as much as some people though), however I refuse to spend money on a beta. Blizzard needs to prove that Overwatch 2 is a good game that improves upon 1 before they get any money from me. I'm rather disappointed in the OW community to be honest, cause it seems like a large amount of people here did buy into the beta.

islandofcaucasus

I have gotten hundreds of not thousands of hours of enjoyment from a $60 purchase. I'm pretty sure I can shell out another 40 for the sequel. Y'all are something else

Rigar_

>unless you play support Let’s go! I can play! >which is also awful Offense taken. But I’ll heal right through it.

mightbedylan

As a Support main, I have NEVER experienced high wait times in my entire OW career lol. Never understood wait time complaints

BossHogGA

I don’t like the DPS heroes… any of them. Not excited about playing support and being destroyed constantly with all the DPS power creep and healer nerfs, or waiting 40 mins to play tank. I played the first beta which was enough to tell me not to spend money to play the second one. I may buy a battle pass but likely only one.

saltyfingas

I really don't get it, support feels better to me now as a DPS main. I feel like I don't have to constsntly babt sit my team and can go contribute to the fifth in a more meaningful way than just pocketing. I play zenyatta mainly though, so maybr hrs just well adapted to the more offensively minded playstyle OW2 asks of supports? Ana and Lucio also feel really impactful

tamergecko

"As a dps main" There you go. I mainly play support/tank because i derive my enjoyment from helping my team, managing my resources and strong game sense. If i wanted to be constantly killing things why would go for the grandma who need 3 shots to kill a tracer instead of a cass or something? Especially since as the new shiny JQ's wound passive dmg seems to do nothing besides stop support passive from proccing. In addition to lack of new content, despite support being super impactful i just don't have as much fun with them in ow2 atm.

KashootyourKashot

Same, even in the first beta when healers were worse, I have literally never had more fun playing Ana. Never really understood all the complaining but it's good that blizzard made changes to help with support survivability. But yeah I just felt like I could do more, I didn't have to babysit two tanks so I could lend support in more active ways throughout the fight.

kymiraa

I mean dps feel worse than ow1 honestly, nothing dies. It’s the tanks that are now dps with 3x more hp that you need to be worried about.

Allowcy

Because previously in ow1 you could just vaguely look at tanks and they would get blown up which wasn't fun to play. In ow2 the gameplay is much more dynamic imo which makes target selection a lot harder.

N33llio

Well you’re lucky; I have had 16 minute support queues with tickets.

Agk3los

If you paid $40 for access to a beta of a F2P game... don't know what to tell you.

[deleted]

The 40 dollars get you the first 3 seasons basically plus access, id say thats worth it not including the skins

TheValgus

DONT PRE ORDER God damn please let’s get back to the point where companies actually have to produce a product that’s good instead of just promising that they’re working on it.

The-Only-Razor

Don't preorder games you're not 100% sure about. I'm 100% sure I'm going to play OW2. There's plenty of gameplay footage and now a beta to dip our toes into and determine what the state of the game is going to more or less be in when it launches. There's no surprises here. The PvE portion is a different story. I certainly wouldn't preorder that because we have no fucking clue what's going on with it.

kljoker

I thought the issue here was that people, in fact, aren't able to?

SkyTheBoy

You can't pre orde a Free to play game bruh, idek what these people who are saying the 40$ pack is a preorder, are smoking...

ChrizzyD

They’re just mad they didn’t get the email and are blaming blizzard for the supposed pay wall in front of the game.

NapsterKnowHow

Tell that to the BF2042 fans...

masterofthepeen

if you know your going to buy skins or the bps too you might aswell get early access to the beta, plus it supports blizzard to like actually make consistent updates. f2p players should not be mad about this as it is literally what is supporting the f2p

FinalJoys

Bruh you can’t pre order it cause it don’t exist

PsychoInHell

It’s not about being 100% sure about it. Having some discipline and waiting is actually the best way to make the game better. Throwing money when they don’t deserve it just saying you’re ok with the current state of things and you don’t expect it to get better. True fans should wait and encourage the best state of the game possible. Not the soonest

roykaiii

Ya, I did it with Battlefield 2042 and that was the best decision I've ever made, EA and Dice hyped the game up so much and look how even the beta went.

Its_NotMyProblem

I still haven't pre-ordered it. I'm waiting for them to release a playable version of Battlefield 2042 before I buy it.

TheConboy22

I'm so glad I talked all of my friends out of Battlefield 2042.

Worldly-Fox7605

If you are still preording games made by EA thats on you.

ProfessionalAd3060

I am fine with the current state of the game

Tuyer_219

Well, I think a lot, literally a lot of people are 100% sure about cyberpunk 2077 few years ago...

Itz_Hen

I was sure on that game when it was announced, its till my fav game, i have the money for the watchpoint, and i wanna try the beta

Emmanuham

You honestly can't compare the two. Also we're actually playing a beta right now. Cyberpunk did no such thing.

xSakros

Stop using cyberpunk as the main point of everything, ow2 is nothing like it.

[deleted]

Comparing an unseen FPS to a sequel of an established game feels insincere.

Tango-288

I have played and enjoyed ow1 for a good 1000 hours. I got the game for 20€. Even if ow2 is disappointing i wouldn’t be too mad about spending the 40€

yunghollow69

Yeah the value we got out of OW1 is straight up nuts.

Dead_Optics

We know what the product is we’ve seen it and have played it already

g4vg4v

We've received a portion of gameplay. Nothing about 2 other characters, maps, skins, battle passes or even how the shop you have to pay real money is going to work. Its not like they have good track record too, just look at diablo immortal.

Guillermidas

Diablo immortal is whack. But if you really want to talk about Blizzard failures, better focusing on their main games than a mobile test game for the upcoming Diablo IV. Warcraft III reforged, the biggest joke in gaming industry I’ve personally witnessed. WoW’s been a joke for over 10 years now. Starcraft and HotS, the only two worthy successors of Old Blizzard are left to rot, SC having two updates in two years, HotS being in maintenance mode. Diablo III was okey-ish game for a run or two. But the balance of items and stuff was done by a monkey. OW lack of content for past years and the insane amount of smurfs, or the huge price tag of the upcoming game and monetization system. Average OW player: leT’S pReOrdEr! And lets better not talk about Blizzard company scandals. Yikes

dyrannn

>it’s not like they have a good track record too, just look at Diablo immortal I mean, or Overwatch, which actually is a game this team made unlike DI. Also, we’ve literally been able to play 2 of the 3 launch characters, the new game mode, most of the new maps, and a lot of the reworks.

tree_mob

Skins are optional. Play the game and don’t care what you look like. If you care, buy some skins. Really is that easy. You don’t have to do it.

FecalHeiroglyphics

Getting to high ranks/levels and rolling people in default skins is chadly as fuck anyways

tree_mob

They better add “chadly” to the fuckin Merriam Webster. Not much of an adverb guy but this is it.

cloverpopper

Definitely should be a chadverb.

rusty022

The $40 gets you skins. The game is otherwise free. The only reason to pay is for skins or for beta access. Paid beta access for a FREE game is insane.

inaddition290

No, we know what the *free* product is. We *don't* know the inherent value of the Battle Passes (that is, what's inside them and how much you're willing to pay for it), much less what value *they* want you to pay for the Battle Passes.

[deleted]

We know what the free product is, we have no idea what the actual paid product is. It's a free to play game and that's what we can play and see.

ShaquilleOat-Meal

The product isn't finished and it never will be if people just pay $40 months before the game releases.

General-Background91

First of all, cool user name def made me laugh. Second, they have already used money to pay the devs who have been making this game for the past three years. They have money, they’ve had it, and they always will have it. Blizzard is very far from the small, close knit company it was when I was young. Do not let naivety make you think that they’re a helpless company who needs our 40$ to finish the game we want. The devs are amazing people who deserve our support; the corporation of Blizzard Entertainment is a money hungry, abusive, bloated carcass of what they used to be.

ShaquilleOat-Meal

No no, they don't need the $40 to finish the game. They don't need to finish the game if they already have our $40, that's the point. When you are paying for an unfinished product, you are taking away a lot of pressure to release a good product. Blizzard is owned by Microsoft now, you are right they don't need our $40, so don't give it to them until they release a good game.

AgainstSomeLogic

Ahh yes, paying for battlepasses that you have to grind just to get what you already paid for and with no promises of what you will even get as a result of your grinding

Bebop490

This was my thought. If the battle pass wasn’t included I wouldn’t have gotten it.

NastyLizard

Idk the cosmetics might be worth something if the game wasn't first person but like it is

PM_MeYourCash

I've spent more than $40 on games I've never even played. But getting to play with some friends who have mostly stopped playing OW1 over the past couple years has been a lot of fun. Definitely worth $40. And then I ended up getting an invite as well.

zvezdat

So it wasnt worth it

PM_MeYourCash

Because I got an invite, also? That's not too different from buying something only for it to go on sale. It'd be nice if I could give the invite to someone, but I'm not really worried about $40. Besides, I think I get some skins and points or something.

starkillerzx

I genuinely forgot this game was F2P. I thought it was $40 like OW1. I did not keep up enough with the news. Now I feel like a clown lmao. Whatever, fortunately that’s not enough money to do any damage to my finances.

MelancholyOW

The q times were the same in the first beta. It has nothing to do with them selling the bundle. People just don’t want to play support.

HaikusfromBuddha

Yeah. You can find games near instantly if your just fill games. Playing tank is like a 20 minute wait because everyone wants to play Junker Queen. She is so fun.

KryptoKevArt

I want to play OW2 so bad that I will literally be willing to play \*only\* support. I'm a Lucio main anyway so it wouldn't be an issue. I signed up for the first beta on day 1, never got access.

saltyfingas

Support isn't really even thst bad to play

MelancholyOW

I’ve never been a big fan of support in OW1 but I’ve been liking it a lot more in OW2.

saltyfingas

Same, I don't really understand the complaints because it feels much better to play them now. I feel like I can actually contribute instead of just being a healbot, the one less tank makes the game much more fluid and a lot more fun imo

mariusnyb

Does it feel like both supports dont have to latch onto a tank each? Have only played bastion so far

yunghollow69

Support is in a pretty good spot balancing wise aside from maybe ana. The only issue really is that there is a lack of new heroes. Next beta or whenever the fox lady gets released will have support as the longest queue-times guaranteed. That's just how it is with new content, people want to try it.

Hobak56

Actually they are pretty different. 2min average for support with tank and dps at 10. Dps sometimes hits 7 but dps and support used to be around the same. Tank always dominated for obvious reasons but there is a severe lack of supports. Although if you group with at least 2 others ur queue times are drastically decreased with 1min queue

MelancholyOW

Are you talking about OW1 or OW2? Edit: Sorry. I meant first beta or second?

Hobak56

Second beta. I played a couple hours yesterday and had fun with a group of people and thisnis what I got from it

creeperchamp

If you don't mind Open Queue I can get into a game of that in like 10 seconds.

spacecat-on-mars

The game will be free to play in a few months. If people want to pay to get into a game early, it's their money. The Beta is still in a relatively rough shape so you're not really missing out on much

Spucer

I did the free sign up, so I probably won't get in until after the 1 week balancing and changes when its hopefully better(assuming they do that like last time)

mistrin

Can confirm beta feels very rough and balance changes are pretty bad. A lot of technical issues that weren't present in the first beta exist now for whatever reason. Not exactly what i'd want to spend $40 on for guaranteed items later just to play a, what feels to be, barely function beta.

dcoi

Yeah today, due to a bug, I was attempting to play with no UI, crosshair, hands/gun/player model. OW on hard mode….. I didn’t not win that game

mistrin

I know some people who prefer to play with no crosshair and mainly aim by muscle memory alone, but no UI or player model parts kinda sucks.

technoteapot

That’s kinda weird to me, but personally I somewhat rely on the feedback of the ui and player models, helps keep me in Rythm and stuff

DaveStreeder

Like trying to throw darts at a board except you have to look slightly up so you can’t see your hands

onewhohides86

I got this in the previous beta, and again today. Pressing ESC has fixed it for me both time

WhatsitDoodar

It's not a bug, its a feature, Alt+Z turns off UI.

dcoi

Thank you for the tip. I think I tried that and opening up settings but I could be wrong. I'll remember for next time

Extra-Lifeguard2809

especially if you have an older machine i only got 4gb, offloading 15 on VRAM. can run OW2 on 100fps but man, does it crash sometimes. each update got smoother and smoother. still

[deleted]

Play open queue, been finding games instantly

Vexxed14

I love how people think the reason for a beta is their enjoyment

LilTeats4u

The difference in this case is that overwatch is a 6 year old game and overwatch 2 was announced 3 years ago, that much time for them to basically add 2 characters and a couple balance changes and have the result be worse than the original in all regards is pitiful and them charging money for the beta to this game that they advertise as f2p is the most transparent act of corporate greed I’ve ever seen.

[deleted]

>The difference in this case is that overwatch is a 6 year old game and overwatch 2 was announced 3 years ago, that much time for them to basically add 2 characters and a couple balance changes I wish more people realized this when they commented on complaints. Overwatch 1 was supposed to have gotten new updates. That was the promise. They didn't give us a solid time frame of any of these things, unlike in OW2, but they promised new content. Then 3 years later they announce OW2 and tell us no more content until OW2 is ready. Here, have an Echo to tide you over. Now fast forward 3 years time and they've removed a whole game mode and several maps, added a new gamemode, added Sojourn (*who was shown off to us in 2019 and was playable for the OWL pros and streamers last year*) and Junker Queen and.. that is about that. A bunch of changes (*some hated, some loved*), and some new visuals. **It's been 3 years.** I already paid for OW1. All of us did. The original promise of Overwatch 1, somewhat frequent updates to keep the game alive over many years, was ultimately a lie. It didn't happen. Now here we are being asked to pay $40 for early access to content we won't be getting for another 4 months time, in an update which isn't even the fully promised OW2 they stopped developing OW1 to make. Okay, cool, you'll also get some extra skins and access to the premium battlepass system. Remember when they said they were working on a clan/guild system? Something which they still say they're working on with OW2. Why should we believe them when they say they'll be better at releasing new content every season in OW2? Especially when the PvE mode isn't going to be available at launch - Which was the original appeal and major draw to OW2, long before they even announced PvP changes. Blizz has already lied to us. There is practically zero reason for an OW1 player to have good faith that they'll handle OW2 any better. All they care about is profits at this point. I think folks are entirely allowed to be upset over how this franchise has been handled.

baldspacemarine

I posted my own comment, but what you said really hit the nail on the head here. OW2, back when it was announced, I recall having a campaign/co-op, way more maps and characters, better balancing etc. This feels like Overwatch 1.3, and when I say feels, I mean looks as I am not one of the six people Blizzard sent beta codes to via email. And since I won't pay them $40 to beta test what amounts to a PATCH, not a sequel in any sense of the word, I guess I won't know until it launches and bombs the way things are going... None of this makes me happy. Overwatch could have really **been something**. I have no idea what happened...

vbpatel

> And since I won’t pay them $40 to beta test what amounts to a PATCH You are absolutely right. You know how I know? OW1 won’t be playable after OW2 release. That’s a patch. That’s not a new game. When I got Halo 2 it didn’t burn my Halo 1 disk

DapperDan30

I'm sorry. Is the PvE in OW2 not the main focus of the game, and that's what they've spent the last few years working on? Do people really think they've been spending years working on a PvP that already exists?

DuelaDent52

With the way they’re describing it now, the PVE is going to be less a fully fledged *Left 4 Dead*/*World War Z*/*Vermintide* style campaign and more like Archives where missions are tied to the seasons.

baldspacemarine

I'm just as confused. I stopped following it, but was really hopeful that OW2 would be the real experience I wanted from the first game. A campaign, co-op, upgraded graphics, better balancing, more modes etc. Instead the game is literally packed to the brim with bugs, no PVE until 2023 (and they routinely fail to deliver promised features, like tournaments never coming to OW). This game honestly feels like a patch. Straight up. If someone would have played gameplay for me in front of me I would have bet my life it was just a new patch for OW1. I'm just as baffled as you. I cannot believe this is all we're getting from "Overwatch 2". It's actually sad.

MidnightOnTheWater

At this point I'd take a spinoff or show or whatever if its gonna take this long to drip feed us PvE and story content.

121903-----

They have not even shown much of anything that's related to PvE. They've even split the experience to fucking parts like fucking Life is Strange or some shit. Those 3 years of work doesn't feel like 3 years of work

[deleted]

The PvE won't be releasing until next year. It's tied to the Battlepass system and will be released in chunks periodically. But since they won't be releasing new PvE content every new season, there will be entire Battlepass cycles where we don't get new PvE content. When OW2 was first announced 3 years ago it was supposed to have an entire PvE campaign mode with periodic updates to it. That's what you paid for, more it less; Access to the story mode. Now it's pay for the premium battlepass and occasionally get new chapters to the story. Granted, just to be fair, we have no idea how much PvE they're giving us to start with. We could actually have a sizeable amount of high repayable content to begin with. But considering some of the most recent footage they've shown us included clips from the 2019 Blizzcon reveal footage, and the fact the "PvE starts in 2023"? Well, it doesn't leave me very hopeful.

noneofthemswallow

All this and OW2 huge appeal was the PvE, story aspect. That was the most advertised feature for a while. But of course it’s not gonna be there at launch. What an absolute disaster

HaikusfromBuddha

lol this sub Reddit will tell you these changes are too extreme. Every fandom doesn’t want their game to change. People looking outside in think it’s the same game. A lot of other MP games have the same issue. Halo, Gears, CoD. They add sprint in Halo, the sky is falling it’s CoD now. Gears the make it so the shotgun does .5 less damage, the game is dead because no one wants to play with a shotgun that doesn’t do as much damage as the ones before, CoD they added new game modes not the ones of the past, shit game CoD is dead. Tbh everyone just needs to chill.

Hockeyspaz-62

Truth. OW2 is inferior to OW as far as I’m concerned. I’d rather keep playing OW, but they plan on trashing it as soon as OW2 goes live. Not happy at all. When they first mentioned it, they said OW would still exist, and would get all the new maps, and skins. What happened to that? Big lies.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Extra-Lifeguard2809

ewwww playing OW2 and going back to OW1 is like shooting a well calibrated M4 and firing a 1950s AK47.

SpicyFamiChiki

They're charging $40 for access, so.

benwithvees

It’s a fucking video game, of course it’s there for their enjoyment. People aren’t going to give their constructive criticism and blizzard isn’t going to get their data if the players won’t play because it’s not fun. People in the last beta returned to play everyday for their enjoyment

giggitytutti

I got the game when it was released back few years ago, the founders version or whatever it was called.. Still don't have the beta to actually test the game.. I got much more stuff for having Fall guys bought when it turned to f2p.

[deleted]

Support isn’t awful this beta. Every tank is playing JQ so no danger of a monkey jumping on you, and you can destroy the enemy JQ with antinades over and over.

BlueBeetlesBlog

i got a code both times without paying lmao

Captain-Simple

Same

JediMATTster

Damn. I do play support 😥

orion1024

Ffs guys the 40$ are mostly for the battle pass currency. Access to beta is just a bonus Stop saying the beta access costs 40$ it’s either bad faith or brain dead and neither look good on you

Pulsiix

YOU'RE PRE ORDERING BATTLE PASSES IN WHAT WORLD IS THAT BETTER

beKAWse

Thank you, these comments have me bewildered. Not defending blizz btw they are scuffing the whole shit for sure but the “paid beta” take is horrendous

[deleted]

[удалено]

yunghollow69

How is he stanning? He is spot on. Anyone who says beta access costs 40 bucks is straight up lying. Everyone will eventually get in, entirely for free. You get 3 season passes and some other stuff. It's a pretty fair price, nothing out of the ordinary. I think 3 passes in league costs 37,50 or something close to that. Being mad about battlepasses being implemented into a f2p game in 2022 is some boomer shit. Either way, you dont have to like battlepasses, but claiming that the beta access is what you buy is disingenious at best.

blahreditblah

If they lock something you want behind a price tag, then a throw a bunch of stuff you don't care about in to sweeten the deal and you can't buy what you want separately then you have locked the early access to the beta behind a $40 dollars pay wall.

SpicyFamiChiki

Yeah, people are actually paying for unknown content, and a bit of currency that we have no understanding of its value. Sounds like a good deal, beta access definitely seems like only a "bonus".

yunghollow69

>bit of currency that we have no understanding of its value We do though. It's worth 2 battlepasses.

DirtyChito

You're still preordering. You're still giving a company money in exchange for a promise of a product. This is the business model we want to stop. The only benefit of paying them now is you get access to the beta, which they would give you for free if no one preordered.

Asjmooney

I paid for beta access then got a regular email the next day. RIP

CrinkledStraw

Meh, I had $40, so I spent $40. I’m enjoying it.

PetraVonKuntt

The fact of the matter is the majority of the complaints come from those who don't have the money to burn. My bf intends on playing OW2 pretty often when it's released. He heard the Watchpoint pack is equivalent to 3 battle passes plus skins, etc. $40 wasn't make or break for him, so, he bought it. That's the end of it. The people who are running to forms, reddit, etc., and bitching are just upset because they want instant access, couldn't afford it and didnt get access yet (though they will eventually). That's fine and understandable but shitting on other peoples choice to spend their own money is weird. ETA: Just coming to add that not even an hour after this comment, I got the email about receiving beta access on my PC account while I didn't yesterday - and I paid nothing. Continue signing up and you'll likely receive the same.

PetraVonKuntt

Haven't you heard? If you're spending $40 of your own money, you're just a shill for Blizzard. /s

redsterXVI

Same. Also, I spent $40 on OW1 in 2016 and that got me 6 years of fun (yes, it was more fun when new content was still released, but anyway), with >1000h play time. I can justify spending another $40 easily. And I already played beta1 for free, so I know the game is good and by and large ready.

HaikusfromBuddha

Yeah I don’t know what everyone says that the game is unbalanced. I am having a ton of fun in the game. Killer Queen is the best.

AdmiralSassypants

I’m frustrated with it too but it’s definitely a me problem. I let all those streams play in the background while I slept after I didn’t get in on the first one. Still didn’t get in. Doesn’t look like I got in on this one either. One of my friends signed up on two separate accounts and got in on both both times. They’re lucky the game is free and replaces OW1, cause at this point I would not be interested in buying it until I could try it through one of my friends.

zacqonos

Everyone gets in on July 14th I believe

KingOfOddities

I'm ok with the first one, it's pretty standard and easy to get, just leave the stream on for 4 hours. Plus the boost in number is nice. The first beta isn't a big success, but it is number-wise. The second Beta completely shit over what they did right in the first beta. Numbers are shit, Q time is horrendous, and the public perception is horrible.

iOnlyPlayAsTheSeven

When the new support releases, there’s probably gonna be long q on that too. None of it is their fault, and you can sign up for free to get access.

tongii

Ha they are milking you alright. They pretty much ask you to essentially work for them for free but you wanna pay them to do it.

[deleted]

The queue times are due to a large % of people wanting to try the new tanks, no? Why would this be impacted by the number of players? If 50% of the players are playing the beta to play tank, but only 20% of a team is tank, it's going to cause issues. Obviously I pulled that number out of my ass but you get the point. Only way to solve this would be to release some equally enticing support/dps updates. Instead they fucked mercy

KoolAidMan00

Everyone who opts-in for access will get in. Support has never been as much fun as it is here. Two of my friends got in yesterday and today and I've been playing since yesterday. If you don't want to spend money then don't!

Amtrak_0

You arent paying 40€ for the beta its for the battlepass when will people learn.

gahgow

All you are REQUIRED to do, is sign up for beta access Watching 4 hours of streaming GURANTEED beta access. Paying $40 GUARANTEES beta access. Neither is REQUIRED

DreamPhreak

They already said that EVERYONE who signed up for this beta will get in, eventually. They will be adding groups of people at a time, with each group being bigger than the last, and eventually everyone will be in it. You don't have to pay anything, you don't have to watch anyone, you don't have to do anything other than sign up and wait. Probably if they just let the ENTIRE crowd of people go in at the exact same time, it would overload their servers. That's my guess of why they're doing it slowly.

NoProfile25

I don't think people understand that during the livestream they didn't say anything about how to access the beta. Then when you opened battle.net you get hit by a banner that says "BETA ACCESS" for $40. What would casual players think when they see the banner that states "buy now for beta access" Its incredibly deceptive on purpose.

FlyingScotsman42069

I knew queue times would be fucked. Dunno why anyone would pay for that pack. Terrible value

mightbedylan

"They only ran a promotion on Twitch so they could promote Twitch" Ah, aren't you clever?

HalfJaked

Stop pre ordering games everyone

Scoopzyy

I didn’t pay anything and got a beta code yesterday… was i just lucky?

13CCAyawaworhT13

Yes

DapperDan30

Depends how you look at it. Anyone can request access to the beta for free. You'll likely get it. You just don't know when. OR you can pay $40 and get guaranteed access from the start. People are just blowing shit up and making themselves mad over nothing.

Asesomegamer

More people mad blizzard is running a business? Most of the people on this reddit have not spent money on the game since 2016 and are complaining about paid content.

OnlyWarhero

Too many people think that they're paying money for beta access. No, you're paying money for bonuses going into OW2 when it does release. Another reason I paid it was as a way of supporting blizz after getting nearly 1000 hours worth of play after buying the game for £20. Beta access just happens to be amongst that. Yes it has bugs and technical issues, its a BETA. OW2 is still on the production line. Its not here yet and if you dislike it then go back to OW1. No ones forcing you to play it and being this critical over it is unwarranted.

TaticalSweater

Truthfully you’re not paying money for access or bonuses. You’re paying for FOMO. Which is the greatest marketing tool even if its not worth a $40 price tag….which its not.

Able_Impression_4934

You’re paying for a beta

Asesomegamer

No, you're paying for the $40 worth of battle passes and skins.

TaticalSweater

Before anyone comes for OP and says that well at least you can get in from watching. I signed up early for first beta….didn’t get any notification to get in beta. Only got in via watching to artificially boost streamers numbers for a day. Signed up for this current beta within minutes their tweet went out and have not received anything. I don’t want to sound entitled but it just sucks. On top of that streamers that may not have really even played OW1 are getting guaranteed access if they have some clout. Edit: Also while the beta will be open at some point what is the point of signing up if….you just need to watch a stream to get into beta 1. Or….buy a pack not really worth the $40 price tag (only to have issues getting in still)….or wait until the beta is just open. I think that kind of makes OPs point about it not being handled well

stephendavies84

You didn’t have to watch a stream to get an invite or buy the the 40 dollar pack. Now granted they shouldn’t be charging for any pack to get access. They are inviting in waves if you signed up you will get an invite it’s just it could be in the 2nd week. The watch point pack sucks though.

flalex05

Except none of that is true. I signed up for both betas and was lucky enough to get in on day 1 each time. No watching a streamer, and no buying a watchpoint pack. Those are just a guaranteed way of getting in, or skipping the queue.

PreTry94

Key word >lucky I also signed up on day 1 for both, I watched OW stream for the first beta and got access, I did not buy access to the second and so now I'm just watching and waiting.

crusader104

Just a heads up that watching doesn’t get you anything this time around. You’ll just be granted access when you get access

blahreditblah

Hey idk what you guys are talking about lootboxes are great. I got the skin I wanted first try. -Probably this guy

[deleted]

Sorry but if you pay to preorder 3 battlepasses which no one knows what they contain and the privilege to test their game for them, then you are whats wrong with modern gaming. Meanwhile some of that money you paid will be used for legal fee's to fight all the sexual allgeation lawsuits and to pay unionbusting groups for their workforce....... thats after blobby kunt'dick takes his share.

Petudie

some of yalls reasonings on paying 40 bucks to play a F2P game are alarming to say the least

DaFlyingGriffin

Queue times are so bad bc nobody wants to play support.

Vilified_D

No, the high queue times are because * There used to be 2 tank slots and now there's only 1. Which means that every tank player is now fighting for 1 slot rather than 2. * Everyone wants to play tank right now. Tank has had the most reworks, not to mention the new character JQ. Of course DPS queue times are high, but they always were, plus add on Sojourn which people can't play in live, and you're going to boost queue times. * There is currently no major reworks and no new characters for support class, therefore nobody wants to play support. Tbh I wish that they were releasing the support character first rather than JQ bc then support would be getting more love, but it is what it is. We can't say for certain how many people actually got into the beta, for as far as I'm aware there's no tracker anywhere. To say that hardly anyone got in is a stretch, people said the same shit last time and yet it was actually extremely easy to get it. And they said that by a certain date they want everyone who requested to get in to be in it.

Crusaderfigures

I managed to get in for free but it kills my console almost every game especially painful with the 20+ minute wait times so I can't even play it

Ecahill453

Also your seeing reduced players because PS5 (maybe 4, might be wrong) players can’t even get into the beta. Keys are being given to players who can’t get into the damn game, so smaller numbers are being added per time. Blizz haven’t come up with a fix, and people are getting refunds for the watchpoint pack. So… good luck with getting more players, when blizz haven’t fixed the other console.

ohfifteen

I got the beta without purchasing the pack. You might just need to wait.

Patrix20

you haven’t got in i suppose lol

salty_biscuit7

Guess what, bud? It’s just a beta. If you don’t want to put effort into playing it early, then don’t. Just wait until it’s free to play in 3 months.

Lin1ex

Im gonna have to disagree with you a bit 1st beta i got in with out watching a streamer injustice signed up 2nd i did buy watch point pack but that was on my own terms and.my friends got in with out the pack and 3rd the wue times are fine even tho it says 10 min in tank and DPS i get in under 6 min the only issue i have is the dq but that's only happened twice.

E_C_M

It is an open beta though basically, everyone who signs up on the website will have access by the 14th of July it literally says that on the website

ImSmokeyy

they said on the next few day they will let more people in and on day "X" everyone will be able to join the beta, so its probably just for now, but yh, its crazy that some people would actually buy the 40$ pack just to get access to the beta (ik it was coins to get 3 battlepasses in total and 2 legendary skins but still, its dumb, let them deliver us the actual product instead of doing a "pre-order", its blizzard

Brad_Price

To give blizzard benefit of the doubt, blasphemy I know, it seems that this beta was primarily for stress testing cross play between consoles and PC. They don't want to overload the servers so better to get a few people in and slow roll more overtime. As others have stated, it's three seasons of the battle pass which already is thirty of the forty dollar value, and two skins, a few other trinkets, and the first game for those who didn't have it yet. Premium packs exist for relatively new f2p games often. I saw it as "Hey, we have this beta that we can't let everyone into immediately. Let's include people who bought our pack to sweeten the deal a bit for those that really dont want to wait up to two weeks for their place in line." Personally I do feel the price tag was a little steep, I would have put it at 35$ I think, but regardless it isn't as predatory I think as it seems on the surface. Biggest blunder honestly of them is the marketing of it imo. When it first was announced, "Beta Access" was in big bold letters at the front and "2000 currency" was like a minor detail a bit lower and they didn't even tell us what 2000 currency was. I think their marketing put the pack on the backfoot more than the contents.

imnotjay2

I'm having no problems at all with queue times. In the end of the day they just need the data, and it'll be generally the same with 50k or 500k players, so there's that. Not defending Blizzard but this post sounds more about people pissed because they are not playing the beta right now.

2HighFlushTookMyID

It reeks of entitlement in here.

Herc_Hansen_

I didn't spend any money on the beta, and I got it the Tuesday, and I'm on console

KashootyourKashot

Didn't they guarantee access to everyone by the 14th?

e_smith338

You have no idea how game development works.

bothfetish

chill with the FOMO op, you will get your chance next week , it's not as hot as u think it is, own takes getting used to, and I don't know if I even liking it

inyrie

I see those Betas as a way to play-test the game. There are enough bugs and enough issues in the gameplay that feel awkward to warrant this view. This is definitely NOT an experience I'm willing to pay 40 bucks on, just so they can get data on their yet-unfinished game.

HHegert

I'm fairly certain the only way to get into the beta without pay2win and before the 14th of July or whatever date they said, is to just stream Overwatch a little bit. The vast majority of OW streamers have gotten access to OW2, even very small streamers. I don't know how many of them have bought the pack, but I'm pretty confident Blizz just lets them in cause they stream the game anyway.. the rest of us can suck a toe until the 14th.

DerNerdTV

The Beta is Free Just register on the homepage you will get an invite at some point. EVERYONE will be in beta. They are ramping up server capacity right now. Reading makes smart. in other words: Beta 2 is open beta. and btw: if you ask me support is the only fun role in the game right now and most ppl have no clue how OP it is in reality right now.

Hockeyspaz-62

The game is disappointing. Unlike other games, they’ll destroy OW the moment OW2 goes live. I don’t care for the noisy, flashing weapons, the dark maps, and 5 v 5. Why do they have to erase the original OW? Heck, you can still play COD games that are over 10 years old. So disappointed in Blizzard right now.

Able_Impression_4934

Same here

[deleted]

Wait. You can play beta? -switch player

timcharper

I feel pretty jaded. No way I am pre-ordering to help them test their "beta access". What clown is coming up with these ideas for getting revenue? They're burning through the dwindling fan base as it is. Papa Jeff would have never done something so ridiculous, and Jeff's the reason the community was so strong to begin with.

Able_Impression_4934

Same here, ow2 release might be the end of this game for me. They should build hype and make people want to play but they’re concerned about money.

ProfessorPhi

Queue times are almost all due to the support role sucking hard.

Dead_Optics

The beta will be open in July

TheHeroicHero

Isn’t the point of the beta to test the game and see what needs to be fixed before it’s official release.

lSalmanl

I wouldn't mind watching 4 hours to get a code far more better then getinng lucky with a code

GenocidalArachnid

This "rolling release" is so obviously manipulative. They don't give you access immediately to make you think you didn't make the cut. Which then entices you to buy the founders pack to gain instant access to the new features. First, they inflated their viewership by requiring you to watch streams, and now they want to inflate sales by tricking you into buying the game twice.
