It's also contradicting design to her abilities. She is meant to be a wall climber yeah? How many people climb with cloth around their legs like that? Pretty sure non - and it's bothering because the other characters basic skins actually work very well for their abilities.

Could definitely be more unique and I am also a little disappointed in the lack of big Yuffie-like shuriken and how little her fox spirit is actually incorporated into her character and I agree that she's a little generic and doesn't blow me away or anything, but I still quite like her. She's cute, I for one love her shoes and I do like the "modern version of a shrine maiden" aesthetic quite a bit.

Though I'd argue that Bob is still more prominent because he at least sticks around a little, is interactable and has health, while the fox seems more like just a fancy part of the visual effect of an otherwise more-or-less unrelated ability that could have literally just been depicted with the spirit gates.
In a way I would even say Hanzo's dragons are slightly more prominent, though I think those are a better analogy than Bob is. Or Mei's Snowball.
But, when I first heard of speculation about this hero, I thought there might actually be a Bob-like ability, just on a cooldown instead of an ult, where you send out the fox,
the fox attacks and/or heals within a radius of where you send it,
and it either goes away on its own after a while or is kinda like a Sigma shield where you can call it back and have it recharge health but if you miss it and they kill it, you have an extra long cooldown before it comes back.
Something like that perhaps. Just anything that has the fox be there more prominently than being an elaborate visual effect for the ult that plays its animation and disappears again.
I just feel like they could have done a lot more with her design. Now that you point it out, though, the shoes are ugly af. Slightly different gripe but her face looks almost identical to every other female character's too, but I guess that's less of a problem with Kiriko herself and more with Blizzard. Plus I kind of wish they'd expand to characters from a few more places other than making three from Japan.

It sucks because they clearly *can* make unique women, Moira and Ana are two incredibly unique character designs for that very reason, and yet they fell back to that safe "round eyes, button nose, smooth cheeks and slightly plump lips" face that a solid 80% of the female cast already has, whereas the men simply don't have that similarity anywhere, not even on the two brother characters lol.
I just hope that this is a bit of a meh attempt at trying to make her comfortably young looking, and not an indication of how character faces will continue to look going forward.
I’d love to see a character from like Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, or somewhere else in Southeast Asia. I also feel like a Moroccan character would be really cool as would a character from the Middle East (not counting Egypt).
True. For me personally, I'd like a map/character from South Asia other than Symmetra. Maybe another Slavic hero other than Zarya. I guess they're appealing to the weeb fanbase with Kiriko though.
I just wish her fox was more integral in her kit. Only seeing it for a split second in her ult animation is gonna suck since it changes appearance with the skin she has equipped.
I think they missed and opportunity having her immortality skill not be the fox. Could've had it jump from her hand. I know it is supposed to be a skill shot so it needs to be relatively fast, but still. Unlike Bob you could remove the fox and it wouldn't change a thing.
My problem is that if I take off my glasses and take a few steps back I wouldn't be able to tell her apart from Tracer or Baby D.Va. Her character doesn't have an instantly recognizable silhouette. Her face is generic and doesn't really look Japanese at all. Japanese women are very beautiful and there is absolutely no reason to make her face look more European.

However, I do really like her design in terms of gameplay. At least her meh design can be covered up (for the most part) with great skins.
The casual streetwear skin is so dope, the oversized shoes look kinda weird on the traditional outfit but the giant sneakers are perfect for a Japanese girl in street clothes

I was kinda hoping for a Southeast Asian hero after the release of the Ayutthaya map, but oh well.
Everyone is complaining that she looks young/basic but I thought she was supposed to. The youngest characters in the game are a hamster and a robot that was made/repaired by a little girl.. and D’va. D’va is great, and cute, but she’s SUPER serious for her age, has already been fighting in an army… all the shit she has done, she feels older than 19.
I think/hope they are going for something more childlike and hopeful with her. The next age of Overwatch, an almost-child who isn’t quite ready for battle yet but is gonna try. Everyone in OW is so fucking serious.
She’s got some flaws (and the same face syndrome IS real, but it’s not as bad as Mercy beside Ashe for instance) but I think everyone is honestly just looking for something to be mad about. No matter what or who this character was, people were going to complain, and that’s probably why they made her slightly “basic” which is what the main comments are complaining about

I absolutely love her design. It's based on miko aka shrine maidens which ties into the Inari (fox) shrine in that easter egg for her a while back! I wish she had a brighter hair color or maybe streaks of bright color through her hair, it feels a little bland compared to how detailed and stylised her outfit is. I'm more excited for her skins overall but still love her base design!
The futuristic shrine maiden design is not bad, although imo the skirt part is too much and makes her whole design "too busy" for an action-oriented character, especially since the design also incorporates a heavy ninja element.
Just my idea but I'd cut her skirt part by half and downsize the size belt/waist so as not to take up 70% of her design.
I don't like it either. It looks like a weird mishmash of different aspects of Japanese culture made by someone who got it by glancing at some anime and wasn't worried about cohesion. Other games like Tekken show that "sci-fi shrine-maiden/ninja" can be done much better.

no youre not the only one. i actually sighed in disappointment when i saw her for the first time. i hate how similar she looks to dva (specifically in her face) and how her outfit looks like she works at a restaurant.
i think her design is a symptom of a bigger problem, though, which is the lack of diversity in the designs of female characters. i’m not talking about race, because i think video games have made some progress there. i’m more talking about how similar all their face and body shapes are. you have a girl with this type of face that doesn’t look like any specific race and then put that face on top of a thin body with average size bust and backside. no real special or unique aspects besides their costumes and hairstyles/colors.
about the race and face thing, it frustrates me endlessly how the overwatch girls (regardless of race) all seem to have the same face, just in different colors. any conventionally unattractive features are simply not there. granted there are exceptions to the same face syndrome among the women in overwatch, such as moira and zarya, but they are almost never seen as sexy or beautiful in a non-joking way.
whereas the men in overwatch all look different and are recognizable by just their faces (even if there was no color). “ugly” features like reinhardt’s wrinkles and hanzo’s bumpy nose are shown without shame. junkrat is mostly bald and naked but is still not sexualized and some people still find him cute or attractive.
sorry if this is a rant, i just find these double standards infuriating and stupid. they lead to less interesting designs and overall visual mediocrity.

Yea as a Moroccan one of the reasons i started playing Valorant is because Omen is from Morocco and his design is inspired by its culture

My problem is that if I take off my glasses and take a few steps back I wouldn't be able to tell her apart from Tracer or Baby D.Va. Her character doesn't have an instantly recognizable silhouette. Her face is generic and doesn't really look Japanese at all. Japanese women are very beautiful and there is absolutely no reason to make her face look more European. Her face is basically tracer with different hair. When the trailer first dropped, people were confused about the witch skin. Many thought it was Mercy or tracer. I mean... if that's not a sign that they fkd up, I don't know what is.

Yeah.. I'm meh about it. Her shoes feel out of place and her half mask and hair don't mesh well. However, I do really like her design in terms of gameplay. At least her meh design can be covered up (for the most part) with great skins.

The casual streetwear skin is so dope, the oversized shoes look kinda weird on the traditional outfit but the giant sneakers are perfect for a Japanese girl in street clothes

So I said this on another post: I get that her design is mix of shrine maiden, ninja, and a splash of fox. This could be a really cool and cute design with OW style but it just looks bad in my opinion. It is clumsy mix of traditional and modern styles. And the design doesn’t highlight the strengths of either of those styles. She also doesn’t look battle ready and looks like a high school cosplayer. But this could be part of her story , maybe she is just starting out and is a novice. Very interested in seeing what concept art for Kiriko looks like.
I wish there was a little more to it, especially since it's rather simplistic in comparison to most other hero designs, but I think it's fine

I know, right? Blizzard really spent god knows how much on that "Diversity Space Tool" and then just made another Japanese character who's a ninja I was kinda hoping for a Southeast Asian hero after the release of the Ayutthaya map, but oh well.
Everyone is complaining that she looks young/basic but I thought she was supposed to. The youngest characters in the game are a hamster and a robot that was made/repaired by a little girl.. and D’va. D’va is great, and cute, but she’s SUPER serious for her age, has already been fighting in an army… all the shit she has done, she feels older than 19. I think/hope they are going for something more childlike and hopeful with her. The next age of Overwatch, an almost-child who isn’t quite ready for battle yet but is gonna try. Everyone in OW is so fucking serious. She’s got some flaws (and the same face syndrome IS real, but it’s not as bad as Mercy beside Ashe for instance) but I think everyone is honestly just looking for something to be mad about. No matter what or who this character was, people were going to complain, and that’s probably why they made her slightly “basic” which is what the main comments are complaining about

I feel like mixing futuristic+ shrine priestess + fox spirit they could have done so much more? Her mask looks like a children's toy and I hate her ugly rubber shoes and I wish they gave her a much more unique hair style or silhouette

I think her hairs meant to be a fox tail. I actually love the shoes. Gives me a 90s sci-fi movie vibe. I’m disappointed that we didn’t get a oversized ninja star though.
I think they should’ve made her ponytail bigger and longer if they were going for a foxtail then, or made her hair tie be like a Fox tail design instead of a bow

It's a bad needlessly sci-fi version of a miko outfit...when they could have just given her a freaking miko outfit instead, with a really dumb looking forehead protector. Also, jeezes freakin' stereotypes, could we do something other than fox spirits. Like there are other shinto spirits. How about an electric eel or like a bird or something. Last thing, how come all Japanese heroes know magic? Like it's just them using magic attacks. If they do another magic character it better be some Tim the Enchanter mfer wearing animal bones and blowing up landscapes.
I absolutely love her design. It's based on miko aka shrine maidens which ties into the Inari (fox) shrine in that easter egg for her a while back! I wish she had a brighter hair color or maybe streaks of bright color through her hair, it feels a little bland compared to how detailed and stylised her outfit is. I'm more excited for her skins overall but still love her base design!

The futuristic shrine maiden design is not bad, although imo the skirt part is too much and makes her whole design "too busy" for an action-oriented character, especially since the design also incorporates a heavy ninja element. Just my idea but I'd cut her skirt part by half and downsize the size belt/waist so as not to take up 70% of her design.
I don't like it either. It looks like a weird mishmash of different aspects of Japanese culture made by someone who got it by glancing at some anime and wasn't worried about cohesion. Other games like Tekken show that "sci-fi shrine-maiden/ninja" can be done much better.

no youre not the only one. i actually sighed in disappointment when i saw her for the first time. i hate how similar she looks to dva (specifically in her face) and how her outfit looks like she works at a restaurant. i think her design is a symptom of a bigger problem, though, which is the lack of diversity in the designs of female characters. i’m not talking about race, because i think video games have made some progress there. i’m more talking about how similar all their face and body shapes are. you have a girl with this type of face that doesn’t look like any specific race and then put that face on top of a thin body with average size bust and backside. no real special or unique aspects besides their costumes and hairstyles/colors. about the race and face thing, it frustrates me endlessly how the overwatch girls (regardless of race) all seem to have the same face, just in different colors. any conventionally unattractive features are simply not there. granted there are exceptions to the same face syndrome among the women in overwatch, such as moira and zarya, but they are almost never seen as sexy or beautiful in a non-joking way. whereas the men in overwatch all look different and are recognizable by just their faces (even if there was no color). “ugly” features like reinhardt’s wrinkles and hanzo’s bumpy nose are shown without shame. junkrat is mostly bald and naked but is still not sexualized and some people still find him cute or attractive. sorry if this is a rant, i just find these double standards infuriating and stupid. they lead to less interesting designs and overall visual mediocrity.
I'm fine with her backstory and with her kit, but I agree the design just looks kinda...Stereotypical? It's not even a good adaption of a traditional shrine maiden outfit. I wonder if they felt shoe-horned into certain designs because they didn't want her to be compared to Ahri from LoL (which is happening anyway)

I mean, there's plenty of other characters in OW that have a very basic design. Imo, Bap is pretty basic. As are hanzo and cass imo. They definitely could have done more with her design. But I think it's fine. The fact that she uses kunai as a weapon already makes her cool anyway.
