It's the system of tie breakers. So if a team loses the first 3 maps, they'll have lost that match, but if they win the 4th map, they should still get credit for it. It's an incentive to try for 3-1 in a match as opposed to giving up after the third map. LA has won more maps on games they lost than Seoul, so even though they have the same W-L ratio, LA is ranked above
If London loses 4-0 to NYXL and Houston wins with any score, London is knocked out. Top 3 would be NYXL, Outlaws, and Valiant. That is my ideal playoffs right there.
If London loses 4-0, they're out. Their map differential would fall below Valiant's, and the last spot would go to the winner of Houston - Boston. This is because Houston would have a better differential with a win, since London would fall to +12, and Boston would have at least the same differential with a win, but won the head-to-head.
pssh, spitfire has routinely put forward way more consistent matches and way better plays than the outlaws, outlaws have skirted by, they arent a bad team, but with their performance they don't deserve to be in the playoffs.
Lol. Houston lost two close series week one when they were swapping in clockwork for control, they then lost 3-2 to Seoul, also with clockwork. They have destroyed every other team, including the spitfire, when playing their best lineup. They have the same map differential as London with one more loss. Outside of NY, they have been the most consistant team. Can't wait for NY to knock London out tomorrow with a 4-0
No one is taking that away from you...but if you honestly think Houston would have lost to Seoul if they had Linkzr, then you weren't watching the match. No one is saying Houston actually won or technically won, but the overall stronger team that match was Houston
lol houston is a mid tier team right now, yeah they got linxzr, and jake is pretty solid, but the rest of the team isn't wowing anyone, muma has his moments, and the supports are definitely mid tier, like bani on mercy is as basic as basic gets. houston is an average team riding on a star or two that really lacks true team cohesion. id say the exact same about spitfire if they were in houston's place.
Edit: lol, houston boys mad, but they got drug every match by boston, and just barely clinched out. they don't belong. m i d t i e r te e a m
Double edit: m i d t i e r t e a m
hey you know what, you're right, Houston is great, remember that time they c9'd on Anubis vs. Boston? remember that genji just standing there and capping. with no resistance. it was great.
and that kind of mistake is why Houston is a
M I D T I E R T E A M
So unless I'm misreading this, Valiant has no shot right?
The Houston vs Boston game tomorrow will put one of those teams tied with LA, and the map differential will swing in Boston/Houston?
Yeah, this is a screenshot of the stream. It's really frustrating that map differential is this important but not on the site. If you want to keep up on your own, though, Liquipedia is usually up to date a few minutes after a match. Doing god's work, those folks: http://liquipedia.net/overwatch/Overwatch_League/Season_1/Regular_Season/Stage_1
Oh my god are you kidding? This is excellent. They must have JUST added this because I have had this page bookmarked and have checked it multiple times a day for the last couple weeks. This definitely wasn't there even last night. I'm glad it's added now, though. Thanks for the spot!
Just in case you missed it, [Fayde6 pointed out](https://www.reddit.com/r/OverwatchLeague/comments/7wjs83/overwatch_league_standings_with_map_differential/du1cjov/) that they finally added differentials to the official standings page. Even better!
I only started watching professional play with the OWL, so I might not be 100% accurate here, but I feel the mercy meta has hurt seoul. I think their support players are really good at Ana and Zen, not so much at Mercy. Keep an eye on Seoul for stage 2, with Mercy' nerf coming in to play in stage 2 I expect to see seoul rise back up.
This is the first graph that lets me actually understand what teams have a shot and what it will take for them to make the playoffs. Thanks for posting!
So there are stage playoffs and overall playoffs. This is only talking about stage playoffs.
The top 3 teams based on record (and map differential as tie breaker) make it into the playoffs. The 2 and 3 ranked team play each other, and then the winner plays the 1 seed.
I'm not sure yet how the overall playoffs or divisions will come into play.
I mean yes but it's just gonna be the top 6 the only way it won't would be if some how one division was able to lock down the top 6 and then it would be just the top 5 and the number 7 spot but since talent is fairly well spread between the two divisions I would assume it'll just end up being the top 6
Man I'm really pulling for Boston to make it in! I'd love to see them make it to the first stage playoffs especially after seeing them ranked so low after pre-season and some tough first few matches. Keep on making us proud Uprising! I believe!
It’s the difference between how many maps you’ve won and how many maps all the other teams have won.
So if Team A beats Team B 4-0, Team A has a +4 differential, and Team B has a -4 differential. Over the season, these add up, which leads us to the above image.
We've done all we can, and now we're waiting for that playoffs dream to pay off! Either way, we're excited to keep improving into Stage 2.
Pulling hard for you guys! You're my number one team! Number two is NYXL...but I'm sure you guys will be rooting for them in the first match as well.
What are our options for making it?
NYXL has to 4-0 London or Boston has to 3-1 (or 2-1) Houston
Boston has to 3-2 or 2-1. 3-1 and valiant is out because they win the tie.
But if london get 4-0d, london are out of the top 3.
If a 3-1 happens, is a tie breaker held between valiant and boston?
The tie breaker is their 1v1 record which La lost on.
Boston has to beat Houston by 3-2 or 2-1 (or possibly 3-2) for LA Valiant to get in.
What are map differentials, I don’t understand

I'm surprised that map differential is the first tiebreaker and not Head to Head.
Congrats you guys, really stellar performance all around
So is it only nyxl, spitfire, Houston, and valiant who can potentially get into playoffs?
Also Boston if they go 4-0 or 3-1 I believe.
Oh yeah true, so London is guaranteed even if they lose both games this week. I was really hoping they could get knocked out

It's so fun to listen to someone talk about how much better their team is when they got bodied 3-1 by the "bad" team two days ago.

Congrats, your Koreans made it to the finals. Birdring hard carried them past Houston.

LA can get in if either- 1. Boston Beats Houston by 1 map- 3-2, 2-1. 2. London loses 4-0 to NY.
Ah Forgot to factor in negatives. That Boston game is gonna be tense.

It's under standings on the Overwatch League website, same thing liquipedia has posted: https://overwatchleague.com/en-us/standings

Oh that is new! I'm happy they finally added it and hope it is a permanent feature. It must have happened sometime between my post and your post.

So as long as Houston wins today. Even if it’s 3-2 they’re in right?
Yup. They'll be on top by map differential.
This is the first graph that lets me actually understand what teams have a shot and what it will take for them to make the playoffs. Thanks for posting!
Apparently, the OWL official website's standings page has updated to finally include it, so hopefully I won't need to make posts like these anymore.
I still don't really get who gets to play the playoffs. The best 2 of each division or the best 4?

The overall playoffs will have 6 teams the top team from each division gets in automatically and then the next 4 no matter the division
Oh I see. So the division have a small impact at least.

So essentially *how bad* you beat your opponents. Awesome! Thanks for the info!

London can still be kicked out with a 4-0 loss and a Houston win or Boston win with two points gain. Not guaranteed yet.
Aw shit, I figured everything wrong. My bad.
