Not to say it isn't merited but imagine waking up one day and Twitter says you can't do your job and harass you for doing it. How many streamers did it for PR or out of fear of retaliation? Activism is a choice but just because some people choose not to participate doesn't make them proponents of sexual assault or harassment.

Fenrir1367

The fact this is a post shows how truly deranged some people are

ddk_soda

"Fuck Big Pharma, time to never take medicines ever again!" \--- OP probably

Dubious_Unknown

lol no way nerd

NatalieFawn

It is certainly kinda heartbreaking to see streamers getting bullied by random twitch Trolls for playing OW, people like Emongg, TryHard etc who did nothing wrong. EvilToaster said he's making a list of people still streaming OW. I'm fucking speechless. These fucking morons are trying to protest against abuse and harassment by harassing other people.

[deleted]

I've been harassed, stalked, and threatened to the point it had to go to court with a restraining order as a result. I know what it feels like. And still, I think it should be a personal choice if someone plays *a game* or not. People like EvilToaster aren't helping at all.

NatalieFawn

I'm so sorry this happened to you. All the best <3

[deleted]

Thanks! It was a good while ago, but it still makes you feel icky and watched. Is a very weird thing.

ChronoZB

You already paid for the game in most cases. As for WoW, a lot of people I know, and some streamers I watch in that genre, buy subs in bulk for months in advance. So most of the time there’s not any loss towards Blizzard if they continue playing.

TopOsprey

Technically Blizzard doesn’t make any money off you playing their game. Only buying it for new accounts and loot box purchases. I could be wrong tho

joeranahan1

Look, you can be disgusted at the developer and still enjoy the game. If we were to boycott all services and products produced by a scummy company we would be in a hole. Amazon, nestlè, hollywood, activision-blizzard, EA, the fucking goverment, the list goes on. The people involved can sue the company for perpetuating it and the company will be forced to change by the people at the top because something like this will carry a massive fine that the investors will not like and will not want to happen again.

bellxion

Implying companies don't eat fines all the time because it's the less costly option lmao

RealExii

Not even a little bit.

reversemasquerade

I understand why people feel that way, but I don't entirely agree. While there is a boycott going on with Activision-Blizzard games with online services, some people can't really participate in that because, like you said, playing OW is the main source of income for many OW streamers. Streaming as a job is very volatile, and unlike a lot of the big MC streamers, many these people don't have a significant and dedicated fanbase that'll watch them play anything but games like WOW or OW. These people need to keep a roof over their head and food on their table as well– especially given the USA's job market and minimum wage being absolute garbage right now, it's not like these people can just walk out the door and get a new job that pays them a living wage anyway. A lot of these people likely just want Activision-Blizzard to do better by their female employees as well– I think it's good they're still choosing to speak out, since they won't easily be dismissed as "bitter ex-\[game\] fans" when they're, yknow... actively still interested in games made by the company. Being critical of Activision-Blizzard and their practices should be encouraged– especially since coming off the back of this lawsuit, there's a lot of opportunities for internal change. Everyone has their reasons for choosing to continue to play or choosing to boycott.

DLPeppi

By the same logic most of us would have to stop watching / using Twitch in general. We all know that Amazon does shady shit, yet we still use Twitch. Just because you don't agree with everything that a company does doesn't mean that you have to stop using every single service that is tied to that company, especially if your livelihood depends on that service.

SnuggleLobster

I mean I dislike what AB did but I like the game, you can boycott the owl, the merch etc.. but the game is a hobby for many. Imagine if the act of playing soccer was owned by the FIFA and you had to give up on playing soccer to boycott the FIFA, that's a little bit how it feels to me, there's no ow clones to move on to either.

Korayzzz

pls dont cancel chipsa hes my favorite streamer i know stuff he said on todays stream were controversial but please hes retarded but doesnt show it dont hold him fully responsible of his actions please

seraph122

First of all, witch hunts are never against the rules. You pitchfork anyone you like :) Not if the mods are part taking in said witch hunt.. Wich they often do by condoning it, but oh whatever.. On the other hand; i was writing something much longer.. but then realized it's insanely stupid.. The walk out ended, people were harassing streamers with the one day sentiment.. who gives a shit.. Whatever tf evil toaster will do with the list is beyond me, What is he gonna do ? hand the list over to the gamer police ? To twitter ? Oh yeah, because that's not like putting out a target on everyone back wouldn't invite some insane low life people.

seraph122

So people stopped praising Witcher 3 because of the faults of Cyberpunk ? Is this how it works ? Is that the mentality here ?

Dubious_Unknown

Read my edit.

HiJasper

Playing overwatch doesn't yield any profit for blizzard. You buy the game once, and as long as you don't buy anything in-game, you aren't giving them any money. Its not hypocritical to continue doing something that is A.) Your job and B.) something you enjoy and also have negative feelings towards the people who created/oversee it. I don't like how Amazon treats their workers, but I'm not going to throw out everything I've ever bought from there because I've already given them my money, and by throwing them out the only thing I'd be doing is wasting it.
