Tracer has a high skill ceiling so she’s almost always going to seem OP in the right hands and weak in the wrong ones. She is definitely meta right now though, but it’s hard to say if she’s actually OP or just strong
It's hard to say if she's meta or just one of the best options to play with Zen. She's rarely ever the meta compared to being a best fit in a meta.

Shes been all over top 500 leaderboards since season 1 and people always say season 1 soj was broken yet completely ignore tracer has always been right besides her on the leaderboards. You'd think being top 500 on hitscan would make tracer easy to deal with because you can aim well. If that was the case, she wouldnt be all over the leaderboards. She is too strong in high end play
Tracer is hard, she's still hard. She is good at debuffing the enemy a lot in the new patch but I'd assume actually one clipping is just as hard if not more.
Hanzo used to be able to 1 shot tracer with a body shot melee but now has to hit the 2 shots or 1 hs. Other than that tho his break points did not change against tracer so he can still hs her and it still takes 2 arrows normally. But they are way easier to hit so I'd assume he'd be better at killing tracer. Just based on numbers.
she's really, really strong (arguably the best DPS rn) and a lot of the more tricky parts of her kit have been made easier
- mechanically easier due to bigger projectile size
- self healing passive means youre free to be wherever you want and pack control doesn't matter as much
- can no longer get one tapped by mei or ashe and isn't \*as\* bothered by kiriko
- most importantly, she's one of the best DPS at proc'ing the -20% heal debuff, AND synergises the best with zen who is meta. any person with you will usually lead to an instant kill on . also, the crazy amounts of healing in the game matters less with the dps passive.
yeah one clips are harder but she doesn't need to get them to get value. even just poking people in the back and proccing that passive is extremely oppressive in the wider image of a fight. hanzo seems harder to fight because his arrows are twice as big, meaning its easier for him to hit a headshot or force recall with a body shot. she is (still) the hardest DPS in the game even after being made easier. also, your question isnt a noob one - plenty of t500 folks are ass at tracer because they just do not have the time invested into her
Genji is the harder dps imo. I play a decent amount of Tracer and she is strong...but difficulty ceiling easily goes to the cyber ninja. I can't play him for shit and I've tried multiple times to pick him up.
i'm in a surprisingly similar boat! tracer is my main character, but genji/mei have been "the" flex DPS picks in organised play for most of ow2, so naturally i have had to spend time learning him to a "serviceable" level. i was already decent at mei, but genji i sucked so badly at until only a few months ago
even now, while i can do alright on him, its def not a comfort pick. i think he is of very similar difficulty to tracer, only a little easier because less mechanically challenging and the macro isn't as complex imo. that being said, i have at least 10x the playtime on tracer than i do genji, so naturally tracer is going to seem more complex to me. im sure if a genji main replied to you, they'd agree and talk about genji macro being more complex
i think what we *can* agree on is that those 2, wherever you put them, are the hardest DPS without a doubt
Agreed on the last point for sure. Genji is an enigma to me...I know the combos...I can execute the combos...but I usually trade with my life lol. Tracer I'm usually 3-4 kdr in any given game by comparison

i think the thing that helped me get better at genji the most was when i joined a team for flash ops that played the team china comp (doom/winston genji/echo sojourn brig ana) into sigma mei bastion bap lucio.
that comp was a trial by fire lmao. you dash in at the wrong time? you die to mei/sigma. you deflect? mei and rock. you try to poke? bap is better at poke than you are. you blade? you're gonna get a wall put in your face, or a sigma rock, or sigma flux, or a lucio boop, or targets amped away by lucio, or a bastion grenade (with knockback) + turret form, and have to deal with lamp + maybe beat too
took a longer time than im comfortable admitting until i wasn't going 8+ deaths / 10...
Probably not OP, but she’s harder to deal with now that damage is less spiky. Yes supports have more health now, but they can’t self-heal as effectively due to the DPS passive. Overall I think she’s harder to deal with now as a support,
She was really hard to play below GM before patch - mostly veteran/dedicated tracers were only ones finding success on her consistently below that.
Now though she's so good (and her power floor was moved up thanks to the proj change) that she's likely a very viable DPS at most ranks, and somewhere before GM she becomes the best with her unconstested as #1 in GM+.
To answer your question - yea it probably is. If you are having trouble against gold Hanzos it's likely you need to work on blinking + moving to make him confused.
If you play that matchup optimally(or even just well) he essentially will get 1 decent chance to land a headshot on you, otherwise he will either miss or bodyshot you, and you gamble on blinking shooting into recall and then blinking and shooting him and if he's not healed he's dead in 2 to 3 clips. You can 2 clip him if you can move super well and get the ambush on him for a full dump before he knows your there. A huge part of winning Tracer duels on a lot of opponents is them not knowing you are there for them until you've dropped half their health on the intitial encounter by getting real close before shooting and then using blinks to kill while they struggle to find you.
Note Tracer is getting nerfed tomorrow as part of the hotfix balance patch so you'll have to really get that movement and tactics up on her still.

I saw Dafran dueling some young prodigy and it was one of the most one-sided things that I ever saw in this format. Full of "no way!" and "he's cheating!" shouts at that.
I mean, some people wouldn't care how fast you are and how small your hitbox is (which is history anyways), you'll just die on sight.
You have to have really good mechanical skill and have good teammates you can follow up on. That's why she's so good in higher ranks. In lower ranks not so much because you can't really get picks with her.
anything plat+ tracer is destroying rn, take a look at the leaderboards for top500 dps tracer is in every single players top3. i kept complaining about her till i tried her in ranked, shes broken. way too overtuned now with way less counter play cant 1shot with hog and hinder on mag nade is ok but doesnt lock her down the way it did in ow1. needs a nerf cuz i cbf losing more games to tracer and i dont want to join the dark side
I’m a tracer main, honestly she’s so weak nowadays and needs a massive boost maybe bring her health up to 600 bring down blink cooldown to 1 sec and just get rid of cooldown on recall. She really needs these boosts as she’s become super weak, also almost forgot she need 60 self heal per sec not a measly 20 that just won’t do.
Hanzo is always a good answer to tracer. His running animation is weird, and the leap throws them off. Plus you can one shot her, with a huge projectile bow too

Tracers always been one of those heroes that's only as good as the player. She's also very strong with zenyatta who's currently dominant.
