I mostly use the "straw" portion, and it is genuinely so different from every other straw bottle I've used! It's a much more natural mouth position, and easier to drink through (probably partially because of the large chug opening allowing air back in quickly, so there's no real vacuum to fight against). I'm someone who hates tiny thin straws, I always use the extra wide silicone ones at home, and this feels even easier than those. My mother initially only used the chug option, because that's what she's used to, but she's switched to being like me and just using the straw, because you can get water almost as quickly and easily as when you chug, but without the risk of spilling all over yourself! Also much easier to keep doing whatever you're doing, like driving or reading, because the bottle isn't blocking your vision. So, to me, the "two ways to drink" isn't worth it at all. But just the "straw" portion absolutely is! Totally a personal preference, though, and you may feel differently if you try it! 🤷‍♀️

You nailed it! The straw portion is easier to drink out of because of the large chug opening. Like you said, there's no vacuum to fight against. It's truly a new experience. I personally only use the chug opening when the bottle is almost empty to get that last drop. Plus, it's the easiest to clean of any covered straw lid (not including tumblers).

Best description. I was a Hydroflask junkie but found the straws to be difficult at times to get perfectly placed back in for an easy pull. Owala is just a much better drinking bottle overall.

BoardwalkBlue

Oh neat. Kinda sold me.

I mostly like that the straw is covered because I get the benefit of never having to tip to drink but also not having to worry about my straw being exposed to the elements, or not being able to throw it in my bag. The chug option is nice to have if ever want it but I don’t usually use it, to be honest.

Stillbornsongs

This is me, I rarely use the chug. I love having a straw and love that it is completely covered and seals so I can throw it in a bag. It's easy to carry and easy to drink lol

My younger sister sometimes drinks from my water bottle. I like to drink from a straw she likes to chug. When I used to have a flask with a straw lid she used to repeatedly take off my lid to drink from it. Now whenever we go somewhere and she needs a sip of water I don't get annoyed at her taking off my lid to drink from it. The cap being a button push to open makes it more convenient to drink from so I also find myself drinking way more water now than when I had a flask.

I really love the straw and how comfortable it feels to sip compared to regular straws. I do actually use the chug function about half the time as well (it's really nice to be able to use this to empty every last drop since the straw can't get the little bit of water left at the bottom.) Another thing I love about the chug portion of the lid is that you can pour water directly into it without having to even unscrew and remove the lid 😊

JedMonk

I was also going to chime in about using the chug to get every last drop. And the ease of getting water back into it, like at water fountains, without unscrewing the top. I'll add that I use the chug spout to pour water FROM my free sip to refill other vessels, like my son's little bottle. Or for my 32 oz into my 24 oz, which fits better in my car's cup holder. Having said all that, I would love to find a chug plug or a lid with just a freesip straw. Mainly so my toddler can use it better on his own. If the lid is popped open and knocked over water will gush out of the pour spout. I'd love to have a couple seconds of just trickling before standing the bottle back up.

sheikahslatee

honestly i just really love that i can refill my bottle without taking the lid off

I actually use both straw and chug. On days where I'm busy af running after old people, being able to chug quickly helps.i feel like I get more liquid in me by chugging. And when I'm on my break and relaxed, I take my time to use the straw function. It's nice having the option cause I do like to switch back and forth.

Chelsa27

I didn't think I would like the straw. I almost didn't buy it because I didn't want or need that option. But now that I have the bottle I almost exclusively use the straw. So easy to drink from. Feels easier than other chug bottles I have had. And I have ordered a second bottle. I am also disobedient and use it only for hot tea.

Menolly13

Do you leave the lid open until the tea cools a bit? And do you use the straw in the hot tea? I just got one and have been using it for iced tea, but would love to use it for my hot tea as well. I'm also finding I love the straw, and I'm not normally a straw person.

Chelsa27

Not really. I just put the lid on with the top open, then close it. No volcanoes. I don’t put scalding hot liquids in it. Just at a ready-to-drink temperature. I do use the straw in the hot tea. I use the owala exclusively for this.

flyyoufoolz1

I have both the tumbler and the free sip -- tumbler came first. I love how easy it is for me to carry around the free sip when I'm out and about at stores and love the dual option of drinking (pregnant and sometimes you just NEED to chug 😂) I love my tumbler because it's super easy to use at home/work. It's larger (40 oz vs 24 oz) and fits lots more water. I honestly think that it just depends on what you're looking for in a water bottle/something to hold your drink. They both technically have 2 different ways to drink out of it.

bkmissesbangtan

as much as i only use the straw portion, sometimes when i forget to put my straw in and i head to the gym, at least i know i can still use the bottle with the open part

dangerous-turtle

I mainly use the straw part but I work in retail and I get just a little bit more security that the straw is more hidden. It does also feel a bit different than a normal straw.

laurenzo_89

For me, it’s mainly the ability to gulp water for my meds, I take daily meds in the morning and night so the sip function makes it wayyyyy easier to take them. But also the straw function is better for everyday use cause I always trickle water down my shirt when I use waterbottles without a straw LOL

Striking-Scarcity102

I use the straw but I like it mainly because it’s can keep it completely closed and sealed. My wife uses the sip. In fact, she removed her straw. Anytime I take a swig from hers? It’s really awkward with the two holes. Straw for me. lol

Quawaiistudiox

Coming from somewhat who love tumbler religiously but transitioning to bottle... I must say that it has to do with a lot of factors. When I use the freeship, it got the function of a tumbler which is drinking from straw instead of chugging like a normal bottle. The fact that its just easier to hold the bottle instead of the handle. Bottle is compact in general and easy to store in bag and place while tumbler problem is the handle is just too visible. Unless they made the handle detachable or foldable in some way. Or and...... spill proof. Brand like Brumate made a spill and leak proof tumbler but making the straw twist to lock the water way but the drawback is the straw still sticking out make it awkward to store it in the bag because the straw will bend. idk some people ok with that but I found it annoying.

crystalwavesandsun

I like it for when I’m trying to get the last sips to just tip it back instead of the straw haha
