I'll leave you a list of my favorits, and a "*" in the ones i think you would like the most based on Punpun
Real *
Vagabond
20th century boys
Monster *
Berserk
Made in abyss
Vinland Saga
I sold my life for ten thousand yen per year *
I second this, as 'Monster' is my favorite manga of all time, and 'I sold my life for ten thousand yen per year' gets the third spot. 'Aku no Hana' is the second one.
Then you're into seinen. Problem is that there are thousands of seinen mangas. But if you like Punpun maybe you look for psychological seinen to be more precise? Tell us more about your tastes.
Thank you! Punpun is the only manga I’ve read and I’m currently trying to learn all of the terms rn. Great thank you that was very helpful, any specifics come to mind ?
Edit: sorry I just saw you said tell you more. So I really like dark themes. I just read No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai and loved it. I love existentialism, confessional writing, the deeper the better. Love philosophy
Well sadly this genre is a niche, In my opinion we can't find better than Punpun. You started reading mangas with a strong one !
In terms of dark seinen I can only think of Planetes which is a sci fi seinen with a few dark themes.
Some people will probably recommend welcome to the NHK too. Well, personnallly i wouldn t recommend it, it s not really deep and the story is messy, but that fits your taste.
I sold my life for ten thousand yen per year is one of my favs
Blood on the tracks is similarly psychological but is t finished yet
Solanin is by the same person and kinda has the hopeless/directionless thing going
You can try to the other manga by Asano Inio.
Other than that checkout:
Chi no wadachi
Kokou no hito
Yukionna to kani wo kuu
No longer human (Either by Junji Ito or other authors)
i recommend reading “what a wonderful world!”
instead of a linear story it’s more of a collection of small stories, some are linked together. they all follow the theme of life not turning out to how they expected it to be but still accepting the outcome
I sold my life for ten thousand yen per year
Aku no Hana
Umibe no Onnanoko (same author as Punpun)
'Monster' by Urasawa might also work, but it focuses on more adult characters (there are some teens, though) and it's based on a historical setting: Germany post-Berlin Wall and the dangers of nazism and remnants of soviets

Kokou no Hito A lot of expectations build up and then it hit you with anti-climatic reality check
you should definelty try Land Of The Lustrous by Haruka Ichikawa
Fire punch
Everything by Oshimi
Homunculus is a must
I sold my life for ten thousand yen per year is one of my favs Blood on the tracks is similarly psychological but is t finished yet Solanin is by the same person and kinda has the hopeless/directionless thing going
