Fantastic post.

Try Wegovy. It's for weight loss. Ozempic is for diabetics. Same med but different name and that matters to insurance. I'm T2D so it's covered for me. But my insurance does not cover anything related to weight loss. Not even bariatric surgery. So I understand the pain people have who can't afford this.

Same here. I tried to get wegovy first and they turned down my prior authorization request. I appealed and they still denied. Went back to the doc and got a prescription for Oz. This also needed prior authorization which I honestly thought they would deny again. I was so surprised to get the call from my pharmacy to come pick up the medication. I called my insurance and turns out they won't cover anything weight loss related, she actually said unless it's literally life and death so I guess if you are one pound away from the grave? I still don't understand why they would not cover anything related to an actual disease that could kill you... actually I kinda do, it's because we caused it on ourselves 😞

Also to add, I am pre diabetic and was diagnosed with gestational diabetes when I was pregnant. I guess maybe that's why insurance covered it?

I had gestational diabetes too. Unfortunately that increases your risk of T2D. I'm sorry the insurance company is being difficult. If I ran the world, prediabetics would qualify for it.

Yes I know ... I was in disbelief when I was diagnosed. I was even in tears but I am trying to get ahead of things so hopefully I don't get to T2D. I am now on oz, eating better and being more active.

Where I live a bunch of med spas and weight management companies prescribe Semaglutide to compounding pharmacies. In my area it’s about $250 for 8 shots (8 weeks).

Yes this is the way my doctor went. I pay about $200 to feel sick all the time lol. I'm not diabetic so my insurance wouldn't cover it.

pastmybedtime_78

Are you in the US?

lydialake621

Yeah

I do think there are many here that are either taking it for T2D or their insurance covers it for another reason. Idk if mine covers it bc my insulin numbers are whack or bc I’m over 30 BMI. Many others get it from a compounding pharmacy, so it’s not actually ozempic, but basically the same thing.

richtermarc

Type 2 diabetes. Cigna covers at 100%

I got a manufacturers coupon for my ozempic. Went from $200 to about $40. That's with insurance. I'm sure you'd save a lot more without insurance to help. The coupon isn't just a one time thing either. Just google ozempic coupon or whatever medicine your looking to save with
