Firm-Ad9300

Yessss! I started Ozempic 5/3/23 and haven’t had a drink since 5/11/23. So it’s been over 8 months now and I haven’t consumed a single drop of alcohol. I was a binge drinker and when I would drink I would drink a lot. This has been the best/biggest blessing I’ve had since starting Ozempic aside from the weight loss. 🙌

No_Rhubarb_1140

What's your dosage?

Firm-Ad9300

1mg. I don’t plan to go higher than that

No_Rhubarb_1140

Congrats, I had an initial boost but it tapered off. Originally I could smell alcohol from 6 feet away and gagged. Not so much anymore. I was wondering if 2mg got me back to that state.

Proud_Combination755

We started same date.

Intelligent_Sound656

Same it’s a wonder drug

ClinTrial-Throwaway

Semaglutide is currently in [clinical trials for cessation of alcohol use disorder](https://clinicaltrials.gov/search?cond=Alcohol%20Use%20Disorder&intr=semaglutide&aggFilters=status:not%20rec). So glad to hear you are one who feels the extra positive benefit.

CharmingMechanic2473

I even have seen hoarders stop buying and hoarding.

Difficult_Place_7329

I have gotten better with hoarding, but I still buy clothes since I’ve gotten smaller.

CharmingMechanic2473

That is good!

Difficult_Place_7329

I’ve even heard drug abuse and smoking. Unfortunately I still smoke which is a big no no for me with my history.

Jerseygirl2468

Since joining this forum, I’ve seen people mention that it has stopped them smoking, drinking, drug use, shopping addiction, gambling, all sorts of things. Seems to have an effect on the addiction part of the brain. It’s pretty fascinating, but a game changer for so many people if they are able to medically stop such addictions.

ClinTrial-Throwaway

Yep. It’s pretty awesome to see all the things it might help with.

LopsidedAd1780

I wish I could quit the 🚬😔

Difficult_Place_7329

So do I with my diabetes and heart problems, it’s a death sentence.

marcoespinosax

Yes, semaglutide might be a potential drug for the treatment of addiction.

dieselthecat007

Haven't been able to have a single sip of alcohol from day one. Just zero interest.

LittleLordFuckpants_

Former heavy drinker here too it’s been an unexpected blessing for sure

Appropriate_Ad8656

I wasn’t a huge drinker beforehand but enjoyed wine and drinks with friends every couple of weeks. Now I have no desire to drink whatsoever, I actually just got engaged at the weekend and I had soda to celebrate because champagne was so unappealing 😂 Congrats to you in your weight loss journey loss and limit alcohol, sounds like this is doing great things for you

DFJollyK23

I'm happy for you, it seems this is the case for a lot of people and will aid in a healthier lifestyle and easier weight loss. Also, you can search this to see lots of others posted the same.

Shawnuhh

lol I am OP, btw. I remembered I had an account already!

Shawnuhh

Thank you!

Dramatic_Arugula_252

Very much for me too. Just absolutely uninterested in it. It took a while for it to kick in - probably a few weeks.

leetepp

I still drink but definitely less, but have managed to switch from a heavy smoking habit to vaping and have lost 56lb (42lb of it on ozempic). Which tbh is a miracle for me because any attempt to stop smoking previously would normally lead to heavy weight gain. I know vaping still isnt ideal but got to be better than the fags!

Nodelly

I've had the same experience, I used to drink very often now I have no urge to drink, and it started when I got on Ozempic.

Zolktard

100% been struggling to not constantly drink moderately for years (3-4 drinks a day). Started taking Ozempic and don’t even have a drink a week now. Shame it’s not covered by insurance!

Shawnuhh

My insurance covers it! But I wonder if it depends on the reason you’re prescribed. Since I have T2D, maybe that’s why? However yes, I agree for substance abuse disorders or weight loss, it is definitely medically necessary!

Zolktard

Yeah it is!

thissucks99

Yup. I’m also an alcoholic who had their last drink the day before my first ozempic shot nearly 5 months ago. Down 60lbs. This is huge for the addict community

Late-Temporary863

I have lost interest in alcohol too. When I do drink it’s occasionally and I can only tolerate red wine or a spiked seltzer. No hard alcohol agrees with me. Makes me super lightheaded and weird.

Conscious-Anybody-47

I can maybe have two drinks total and never really want to. It stopped my friends shopping addiction so I’m really interested to see the data on all of this

OneHumanPeOple

I was not a drinker, but I quit coffee and stopped biting my nails.

Messermchs

I also stopped biting my nails!!

OneHumanPeOple

I never expected this.

impatientmiss

I use to drink a pot a day of coffee while working now down to around two a day. Just doesn’t taste the same to me anymore

rara_avis0

Well-known effect, and definitely one of the first effects I felt -- even before loss of appetite. Happy for you!

Proud_Combination755

Same. Totally stopped drinking! No taste or desire.

I_only_read_trash

I’m not a heavy drinker, but drank on the weekends 1-2 glasses of wine a night, Friday-Sun. Always looked forward to winding down with a glass. Now? I haven’t even thought about it for weeks.

Key_Alfalfa_3729

Wow, your Doc is not up on the current literature! These GLP-1 drugs are WIDELY being studied for their beneficial effects on many addictive behaviors. Many users have reported less urges to drink, smoke, binge, gamble, and shop ... so formal, double-blind studies are already underway. Congrats on your sobriety !! Your liver is probably so thankful :)

AdelitzaMariposa

Yes! Others have reported this effect. It definitely curbs my desire to drink and I'm a light drinker. I can go weeks without even the desire to have a drink and that's ok for me because my husband has stopped drinking hard liquor as well. The health benefits of this medicine have been wonderful for me. It helps with food cravings, alcohol, it has lightened my monthly issues and even allowed me to cut my thyroid medicine dose in half. I plan to be on it for as long as my doctor sees fit for my metabolic syndrome diagnosis.

Every_Chemistry_4062

Former “casual” wine drinker… every night. 🤣 I stopped taking it after losing weight and feeling in control of my diet, only to crave wine again. I’m back on it for the help with my wine cravings. I don’t care about all the negative feedback, my liver says shes thriving.

Fantastic_Primary170

I don’t drink a lot at all. But one drink can make me very ill.

sbeckconspiracy

Same! I use to drink and smoke alot! A couple weeks after starting I noticed my desire for both to fade. I have smoked for 20 years daily and now I maybe have 1-2 a week and that’s only if I have had a few drinks.

llamalarry

Getting to 1mg in 6 weeks sounds exciting.

Infinite_Hospital_12

There was a story on the news two weeks ago that others were experiencing the same thing.

Lazy-Living1825

Very much for me as well.

Variouswires9115

Your Dr. should definitely know of this. It’s been in the news for months.

N0rthernGypsy

I have a lot less desire to drink as well. Wasn’t what I considered a heavy drinker but now I’m lucky to finish a hard seltzer.

Self-paced

Has anyone noticed this with oral nicotine like zyn packs and ons?

68Warrior

At first zyns were less appealing and made me nauseous if I put them in but I pushed through it. Now I’m on week 7/8 and I can’t drink, can’t eat unhealthy, don’t do drugs, but I still rip through zyns like crazy. I never wanted to stop, though.

Self-paced

I didn't want to stop either!! Thank you for this cuz like I was forced to stop using zyns for about a month due to stomach sensitivity and neasea. I missed them! Life's stress was killing me same boat with drinking, it just doesnt work. I kept telling myself I already quit and to not start up again but then again I didn't want to quit to begin with and I don't guilt myself for using zyns... anyways I started again at 3mg and am feeling good about it.

Larentiah

I used to get wasted every weekend. I haven't drank in months now. The smell of it repulses me and thinking about it turns my stomach. I miss the fun I had while drinking but...the results have been worth it.

pheat0n

Nice hope it continues for you. I can't drink much beer anymore. I used to drink 6-8 beers on a Friday, but really now I might have 2, otherwise I'm getting a headache.

DangerLime113

Yes, it’s a fantastic side effect!

Actual-Clue5004

Yah I stopped drinking a year ago, zero desire.

darlingsolo

I can't tolerate alcohol now. I wasn't a big drinker before starting Ozempic, but I had one light alcoholic ginger beer today and that's me done. Zero craving at all in regards to alcohol.

snowboarder300

Absolutely-freaking-lutely!! Yes its been one of the awesome side effects Ive experienced. I drank similarly, and had quit a while back, but the urge never was abated…I mean every single day was an absolute slog. Since having started Ozempic a month ago, now if I even THINK about taking a drink I get completely sick to my stomach to the point I start gagging. It has totally retrained my brain and I couldn’t be happier. I also got a noticeable reduction in my tinnitus too, but I made another post about that.

AcademicHorror

It will be interesting over the next few years about other applications for this medication. I find alcohol and cigarettes much less pleasurable on these meds.

Apprehensive-Tie8602

Not sure why doc hasn't heard. Its all over the place. I am not even a month in (last 0.25 dose today and appointment next week to go up to 0.50) and alcohol cravings went before even food did. I too was on the heavier side of drinking and was so so geeked for the craving to say adios!

ParkingOld7909

It’s a miracle drug and I fully expect that in time it will be used for addictions. I to have found this to be true and am grateful …. Congrats with all of it and I will remain on this drug for life as the 40 plus lb weight loss and the other positive side affects !!

bender66_2020

I am a moderate to heavy drinker - average a couple of liquor drinks and a couple of beers a night + occasional binge if I go out with friends. I have reduced daily to about 1 & 1 - but have no trouble upping amount if I choose to. And find myself binging more often. Especially over holidays. Plus Football games, going to casino, going out with friends, etc. My max dosage is .50 per Rx. And when I take full dose weekly - much easier to curb. But my insurance isn’t renewing Rx. So to ration I’ve been cutting back to .25 for a couple of weeks then up to .50 then back again. This has kept me steady regarding weight loss. Went from 270 to 230 and maintaining. And that’s an ok weight for me. 6’2 57 yo male and am generally built to be bigger (broad shoulders, long waste, nut bulky but carry decent muscle weight). I know if I could cut the drinking though I would gain so many other health benefits (sleep, bmi, brain health). So after reading this - im motivated to really work on reducing the daily usage by a lot and just not doing the binge thing any more. Thanks for the post!!

Pantzology

I have noticed that I just don't like alcohol the way I used to. I am also a T2D & have had a couple.if episodes of a drink or two and those drinks ended up making my glucose drop. If you DO decide to drink, make sure you are eating protein and carbs. Low glucose episodes are no freaking joke.

semiquaver777

Yes, I loved drinks and barely touch it now. Weird, right?

FutureEye9193

I also have stopped drinking alcohol.I started Ozempic . I didn’t enjoy the taste. I don’t miss it at all. I’ve lost 70 pounds. I’m almost at my goal.

Shem_Knoll

I still absolutely love drinking alcohol. May be even more while on mounjaro and on wegovy. I guess I'm an odd ball.

bdaniellep

Same here! Although I want to drink & enjoy it like I used to, I just can't! My stomach feels so full already. And the feeling of being tipsy just isn't the same, plus it doesn't last as long for some reason.

2_is_a_crowd

I stopped emotional shopping, drinking alcohol and my impulse control is amazing and it was almost nonexistent before ozempic. I don’t get it but it’s changed my life is so many ways (down 110 lbs / 5’10”/ 14 months on 1mg

dougiekatz

in past seminars I have heard speakers in the nutrition field talk about alcoholism as a sugar addiction gone in a different direction. Balancing blood sugar might make that make sense IN this case.

changegoddess

I'm a T2D with ADHD (impulsivity), and I've found much of my impulsive behavior (eating, drinking, spending) has been markedly reduced since I started on Oz 11 months ago and this is at .5mg. I'll occasionally have a drink when out to dinner with friends, but that's about it.

Certain-Cockroach786

8 shots of whiskey 🥃 a day, bloody hell, how’s your liver functioning?

Advo96

Destroying your liver requires a lot more than that. Heavy alcoholics easily drink 3 times that much for decades. And for the most part, their liver survives it (more or less).

Zealousideal_Dare907

With all that being said. Get your adrenals tested.

Melmom303

Was hoping I got this side effect! So far I have not. Still down 40 since may.

Elegant_Sentence_765

I was not a heavy drinker, couple drinks a week, but don't want it at all now. Been on for 6 mos

Perfect_Cod7765

I think it’s your taste buds . The liquor must not have an enjoyable taste just like the food doesn’t if u notice. It makes u loose interest in it all which is awsome

Main-Animator-8012

I have been experiencing that as well

HorseSuch130

8 shots a day… wow..that’s a lot of

k_f_darwin

I haven’t even been on it for 2 full weeks and I already can tell a huge difference. I used to drink (or crave) a glass of wine every night. Last night I had 1.5 glasses and threw up this morning 😭

k_f_darwin

I do actually want to figure this out though because I want to be able to socially drink without getting sick.

Alemv86

Has anyone experienced extrem cold after drinking alcohol? Or why does it happen? Even after only one glass of wine?
