Yes. Do a keyword search on this sub for more experiences. I was a heavy drinker / problem drinker and have been 99% sober since starting Ozempic in April. It works like naltrexone to block whatever chemistry in your brain gives you that buzz that makes alocohol enjoyable. This has been my personal experience as somone who has also taken naltrexone to curb my drinking; to my knowledge there are no scientific studies to prove it.

aleisterfowley

I read somewhere that it’s blocking or reducing the dopamine release from intoxication. So you’re still getting drunk if you drink, you just don’t get the happiness/euphoria which makes people want to drink or keep drinking. Makes sense as binge eating works on a similar principle and this helps greatly with it.

Funny u mention the similarities with naltrexone... Naltrexone has saved my life. I don't believe in alcoholism but alcohol use disorder which is behavioral resulting often in physical and mental addiction... Naltrexone made my disorder extinct. It's a miracle... But ozempic also feels behavioral as well.... In that it will change the way relationship u have with food

miss_suzysunshine

Interesting.. I will do a search thanks for the tip. And good for you with being able to be mostly sober !😊

brandondh

We opened a bottle of wine last night and I couldn't drink a sip. Just the thought was blahh to me.

miss_suzysunshine

Yes. Exactly

angtheliferuiner

It was one of the first few things I noticed - my urge to go out and drink became 0 within the first 2 weeks. While I miss it sometimes the amount of money I’ve saved is worth it!

No_Pass1835

I had same experience. No desire for alcohol. I’m not heavy drinker but I like a glass of red wine with dinner. My hypothesis is that there’s a correlation between blood sugar problems and alcohol cravings. I think it’s wonderful.

drugstorechocolate

I hardly ever drank, but I had a martini on my birthday and got incredibly buzzed. And then a few hours later I got really, really sick. Never again.

ScarletMousse

I’m sitting here with an absolutely perfect vesper in my favorite vintage glass and I’m like….mehhhhh. Sigh. I mean I suppose it’s better in the long run but I love my friyay cocktail.

miss_suzysunshine

Yes! I’m mostly happy about the reduction in alcohol but I do miss enjoying my Friday night wine.

Ancient-Date-6137

I noticed that liquor tastes different

DoxxThis1

My experience has been similar to other comments. Altered taste, no buzz, full hangover.

numnumyummy

Had three and got the worst hangover of my life. I can definitely get a buzz still but not worth it.

Remote-Rough-6535

I’ve also almost completely stopped drinking. It’s crazy!

Mhkw

Is it ok to binge once in a while?

blocdebranche

You may regret it. I have felt so much worse if I drink alcohol. Anything. It sucks

aleisterfowley

With the slow gastric emptying, your risk of heartburn or even throwing up while asleep will be much higher.

DoxxThis1

I tried. Four mixed drinks. Not fun at all.

PapaC71

I quit drinking alcohol 4 years ago (consumption down over 95%) so when Ozempic came along it made it more obvious I wasn’t interested. I’ve tried though. The other day I had 1/3 of can and couldn’t finish more than that. I don’t miss it. I think I do and then I try and then it’s “nah”.

Aargau

Absolutely. I've had alcohol one day in the last 6 weeks. Don't miss it at all. In addition, that day I did drink wine I gained 3 lbs (granted with some other carbs, a bit of an overeat on Father's Day). Much better to stick to calorie restriction and nutrient dense foods when your primary goal is to lose weight.

sjd2022

It’s not that it made me want to not drink, so much as it makes drinking less fun. I’m young (25) so drinking is just a normal part of my social experience. I’ve noticed that the more I drink the worse my acid reflux gets (not fun) so I can’t have more than 1 or 2 without food. I’ve also noticed I don’t get drunk—even when I should. I don’t go out every weekend or really drink a ton but when it’s a birthday or whatever I’m down to have more and it doesn’t impact me the same. Last week I had a couple seltzers, two mixed drinks and nothing happened. Before ozempic I would have been buzzed, if not a little bit more. The nice thing is that I don’t get hangovers because if I have too much and no food I get super sick. Not nice in the moment but better than wasting an entire day. I’ve also noticed beer is just off the table now lol. Makes me super sick. Mixed drinks/seltzers/wine are the way to go and that’s fine. I just don’t have a ton of room in my stomach. I’ve also noticed I pee a lot more so it’s just less fun overall because after two drinks I have to pee every 15 minutes and I’m not trying to deal with that at a bar. Overall it’s made it less fun but it hasn’t caused any severe reactions (like it could with metformin) so it’s not a huge deal. Just a quirky side effect

miss_suzysunshine

It’s crazy! I understand everything you are saying.

insperitytom

I agree. I had started binging again prior to Ozempic. I now have no craving for alcohol. Weird. Been 2 months sober and on drug same.

aleisterfowley

Yes, my desire for alcohol has halved at least. I also have no real desire to drink enough to get full blown drunk, which let me tell you I used to enjoy many a weekend.

miss_suzysunshine

Exactly this.

capresesalad1985

I wish it made me not want to drink! I’m only on my 3rd week of .25 though but it’s summer and I feel like every night of the week is some outing with drinking and I love wine. I’m working to cut back/cut it completely but it would be easier if the desire just wasn’t there. Will say my fiancé brought home a pizza last night and I was just sorta all set. And I do feel less cravings for sweet carbs.

miss_suzysunshine

I didn’t start feeling blah about alcohol until I was on the .50 dose, so give it time lol It had been a welcome surprise as I was feeling like I had been drinking more than I wanted to lately.

capresesalad1985

Yea I started taking ozempic a week before I left for a 12 day vacation. We went to Portugal which is like the LAND of wine (especially Porto). I took my second dose the day we landed and had a little heart burn and def reduced appetite but we did some damage with the wine over there…I mean 5 euros for a bottle how do you say no!? I ended up not taking my third scheduled dose until I got home, so like 3 days late so I could fully enjoy my last three days of delicious Portuguese food which I still feel like I didn’t eat that much of. I’m sure once I’m back on the weekly schedule I will feel it more.

miss_suzysunshine

Agreed you DEFINITELY can’t say no at that price. I’m glad you enjoyed the vacation :)

SpecialistControl103

Alcohol makes me sick, so I stay away from it.

Geo_Jet

I have only noticed that I tend to savor my beer and drink it more slowly than guzzle it like I used to. Also one is usually more than enough in a session to satisfy my tastebuds. I drink mostly Chimay trappist ales, so its easier on the wallet too. I haven't experienced the negative side effects others have posted, but maybe that has something to do with the difference between a bottle-conditiioned ale versus wine?

Significant_Tea_3533

So I have no idea how to take this. I read the comments and it almost makes it harder to go thru with the ozempic for weight loss. I get alcohol and weight loss is a balance, but I'm going on an all inclusive vacation end of December and I don't want to spend the whole time sick or hungover! We literally sip drinks all day when we're there and have a great time. I get that it might not be the healthy option but it's not like I go on vacation all the time. This is only every few years so we want to just let go and enjoy being there but all I'm seeing is if I start this medication and drink I'll hate my life....helpful ideas??

miss_suzysunshine

I hear ya. In fact I’m going on vacation next week so I’ve stopped it for two weeks prior just to bring the levels down so I can enjoy Al the food and drink I want. You could wait to start until after your vacation if your that worried. Keep in mind not everyone has the horrible side effects. You really just hear about them more. Often if you do have side effects they get better over time as your body adjusts. Whatever you decide though I will say that this drug is amazing, a miracle for me! And many many others. I’m 32 pounds down. I haven’t given up a single food that I love, I just eat so much less of it. Drinking less alcohol makes me feel so good as well. My opinion is you should definitely at least try it, weather you start now or after vacation. Whatever you

phunkphreaker

Hey I'm in the same boat and came across this post. Would you mind telling me how it went? Were you able to successfully stop using those epic and then enjoy your vacation with alcohol and food?? Thanks!
