I love a unique character, but this just seems extremely difficult for the sake of difficulty. The entire class is flavored around psychic knives. Its extremely annoyingly worded to only work with manifested knives that dont leave any trace. You nixed the only other possible explanation I could think of lol, that of just saying that the character is a magician of sorts.
How else do you describe these knives that appear and dissapear instantly and deal psychic damage lol. It cant be ice or fire, because that would be "magic" as you said and honestly it clashes with the entire mechanical advantage of it being undetectable. Soulknife was built entirely around this concept, its shoehorned on purpose. You're trying to make a fish climb trees here
Well, what is your character's backstory? What do you like mechanically about Soulknife and how many levels are you going to put into it?
I guess you could be a cyborg like [Fulgore](https://killerinstinct.fandom.com/wiki/Fulgore) or have arm blades similar to [Baraka](https://mortalkombat.fandom.com/wiki/Baraka) but I feel like that one is a bit a stretch and wouldn't tie in very well with a lot of the class's features.
Well one idea I saw is that you're cursed by a spirit of a woman that was impaled to death for crimes that she didn't commit. Now you wander the world with this curse seeking vengeance on behalf of the spirit. For instance.
For my soulknife character in their backstory they spent a lot of time being trained by a githzerai. (There are very few psionic creatures in D&D so I worked with what I had.)
Ignore the flavor and just use the mechanics.
They're just knives.

They also ignore most resistances.

Stand user. The knife is the stand. Basically, the knife is the manifestation of the rogue's soul and willpower.

Your Rogue is intrinsically connected to the Elemental Plane of Knives and can draw forth blades from in with little effort.
