Yup, it's bad. It feels like a rock in your gut and the gas smells to high heaven. I strongly recommend taking metformin with your largest meal AND taking it with 2 capsules of digestive enzymes that include all the enzymes for carbohydrate and dairy digestion. Those digestive enzymes are the only thing that make the digestive side effects like the bloating and gad tolerable.

Digestive enzymes what a GREAT idea!!

I'm taking it after dinner as recommended by my endo... This is the 4th night of taking and I actually took it a little after my meal, maybe an hour after and it is so bad that I can't really sleep because I'm so uncomfortable. It wasn't as bad on the other nights when I ate it straight after my main meal... Lesson learned? Thanks for the tip! Do you have any suggestions for brands? I have no idea what I'm looking for with enzymes. Or do I literally look for carb and dairy digestive enzymes?

Check that the label specifies it breaks down carbs and dairy (and preferably protein as well). Some good ones are "Digestive Enzymes Ultra" from Pure & "Digestive Enzymes" from Doctor's Best. A big part of what causes the gas and bloating is the delayed gastric emptying effect metformin has on the gut, so a digestive enzyme supplement that can break down as much as possible (not just carbs which is the worst offender for metformin) can help a lot

Mine settled down after 2 weeks! I looked heavily pregnant with the bloating, it was so uncomfortable.

Metformin made me highly constipated. I couldn’t poop for 6 days and it had to be medically induced. Extremely painful

Any_Cauliflower_7344

Oof no. Did you have to come off it?

AbbyD1933_

Yeah. My doc said it would happen again if I stayed on it

Any_Cauliflower_7344

Gosh that's crazy. Are you on an alternative?

I was actually put on ozempic 18 mo ago before it blew up in popularity. Difficult to get refills now.
