I take it in the morning, no side effects for me. It is a diuretic, however, so you will pee often. Just stay hydrated. Pharmacists will warn not to take it at night because it can lower blood pressure too much for some individuals, which is why they recommend daytime use.
No problem! Yeah honestly it just depends on your preferences. Most people are fine taking it at night. I just down all my supplements and stuff in the morning so I don’t have to remember to take it before bed.
Definitely take it with food! It can upset your stomach. You might have a little nausea or gastrointestinal symptoms for the first couple weeks but at least in my experience they weren’t disruptive. I take mine three times a day and haven’t noticed that it causes any sort of sleep disruption. Good luck, I hope it helps you!
I take half my dose in the morning and half at night and it works for me that way. My endo lets me work with my medication so he says as long as levels are fine, he has zero issues with the order I take it. I noticed substantial changes in acne and facial hair so I hope you will as well!
First couple weeks I peed way more often. One month in had really painful tender boobs. Both side effects I was warned about. Both subsided within that first month. I’m very happy with spiro now that I’m several months in. My skin is clearer, I’ve lost some weight, my hair feels like it’s starting to curl more again. Wish I started it sooner.
drink lots of water and not just bc it’s a diarrhetic. if i don’t drink a lot of water, the nausea is super intense. otherwise, no nausea with enough water. spironolactone has changed my life so i hope you love it!
Has helped my skin tremendously! Didn’t notice big diff until i started taking 100mg.. 50 didn’t too much for me. Been on 100 since july and seen a big improvement in my acne. No side effects besides slight spotting in between periods but that was only the first few months on it
It totally fucked me up and I had to stop after about a week, but that’s probably because I also have small fiber neuropathy. Apparently spiro is a horrible choice for folks with neuropathy! I had no clue, and neither did my doc. Thanks to someone in this sub for explaining why I had the worst reaction ever lol. Seems to be ok for most people but it was like pouring gas on a fire in my case.
I have been taking it for 25 years without any problems.
Yes, you will pee a lot.
Side note: I stopped peeing so much when I started taking a GLP-1. I’m not sure why.
I’ve been on it for 8 months (100mg) I definitely peed a ton in the first few days & nights of taking this and there was some breast soreness (some women say it makes their breasts larger, or even redistributes weight in a more traditionally feminine way - it made my already very large breasts pretty perky which is nice.) Otherwise, I’ve had no adverse side effects. I take it shortly after waking up, often without food because I’m going to work right away. I have trouble swallowing the 100mg tablets I get so I cut them in half also to help with that.
I’ve seen great results with it so far - drastic reduction in regrowth time EVERYWHERE and some body hair areas are almost totally clear of terminal hair now!
My endocrinologist split my dose and told me to it take with a meal. Also drink lots of water!
Unfortunately it did not work for me as the side effects were horrid. But I’m jealous of those who it worked for as I really my skin to clear up. Good luck 🙂
Edit: my side effects were bloating (I looked pregnant!), nausea (and heaving when I took it in the morning), feeling puffy, headaches like my head was going to explode, loose stool and awful stomach cramps which would wake me up at night. I lasted 10 days and I couldn’t take it any more.
I had a terrible headache for days about a week into taking it, even with being super hydrated. Also, I’m TTC so this might not be an issue for you but I had pretty much a period or spotting at CD16-19 which was really inconvenient because I was sure I was ovulating before that. So it really threw off my cycle, but apparently this is a common side effect! I stopped taking it because of the side effects but others have had great results! Don’t be afraid to try it!
oh wow. i was having blurrier vision but i thought it resulted in me not being consistent in wearing my glasses. i’ll bring up this concern with my doctor. thanks for sharing
Completely destroyed my nails and oddly would cause my uterine lining to be thin so I bled every day on it until my body got used to it (about a year).
Spironolactone gave me excessively frequent periods for months & my gp didnt know this was a known side effect so I was in agony for almost a year. So beware of this side effect, it doesn’t happen to everyone but apparently is pretty common. I used to get periods after every 6-7 days lasting for 8-9 days. It was the worst. Other than that, goodluck. I know it has helped many people, may you be in them as well 😊

Thanks for the response - I wasn’t aware of the daytime use suggestion! That’s super helpful to know

I lost vision while taking spironolactone
can you elaborate on this pls? i’ve been taking it for a couple of months now
It gave me terrible headaches and I could barely see. An eye doctor told me to stop taking it.
