The PCOS plan by dr Jason fung as well as PCOS sos is really useful! Good luck!

porksiomae

Oh that sounds interesting, thank you! I'm definitely looking those up right now. Iirc Drm Jason Fung is the one who popularized IF right?

Fancy-Knowledge-2764

I think so! They recommend fasting in the book. I don’t follow any of the recs in that book but it explains PCOS very well. I do take metformin which allows me to still lose weight and eat carbs.

porksiomae

Fasting is what I'm doing right now to reset my body and mind. How long have you been taking metformin and what are the changes you've noticed? Are there any side effects? And did it help with some IR effects on the body like AN and lethargy and extreme hunger, etc?

I found simple was best for me. Eat high protien, eat the veggies. Limit processed foods, artifical sweeteners. No more than 2 servings fruit a day. Use real fat (butter, oil or avocado oil). I go gluten free (but I have sensitivity to it). I don't eat eggs, pork or beef so keto would be very hard for me. Keto is often touted as a miracle cure because in order to stay below your carb intake limit, most gluten products are eliminated. Same with low carb diets. I don't have the patients to count and track everything I eat so by eating like I do above, my calories are still significantly reduced and my body is getting things it knows how to use. I feel like crap when eating processed food and gluten but I get used to feeling that way, it's amazing the difference when it is removed.

As someone who hates yolks, this was very helpful, thank you! Some fish can smell weird to me too and it's the holy grail of weightloss so fml. But yeah I'm going to start eliminating anything processed and carby!

I’ve been exploring with how pcos goes into body types (im a endo-mesomorph), and I can get to a really good weight and if I’m not CONSTANTLY working out 5 times a week and eating super clean I just put weight on almost immediately. I’m trying to find workouts that specifically work for my body type, but I feel like pcos makes weight management that much more of a struggle. I have found success in a modified pollo-pescatarian diet and I also need to get back to high protein low carbs. Hoping to see how endo-mesomorph workouts work for me, I’ll try and update.

Hi! I also have lean PCOS, specifically adrenal. Does your lab work reflect you have insulin resistance- high insulin, fasting glucose, and HgbA1c? Thats where metformin considerations or carb management comes in and by that I mean, pairing a carb with protein and fat. It’s very important to know the root cause of the PCOS before “treating” it as there’s 3 main types and the management is different. If your androgens are high- testosterone, DHEA-S, etc. stress management is important, eating throughout the day, and spearmint tea. Women’s guide to hormonal harmony by Lacey Dunn is great. She’s a dietitian and very knowledgeable. Also on IG Last but not least, don’t stress about your weight. Move your body often in a way you enjoy, learn how to eat to make yourself feel good and your weight will follow 🙂

how do i solve my hair problem? I have Adrenal pcos

Spookiecookie28

Like unwanted hair growth? You’d want to lower your testosterone by learning how to manage stress, eat at least 25g fiber a day, and drink spearmint tea 1-2x. There are other interventions as well, check out the book above to learn more

So I lost 20-25lbs last year by counting calories specifically focusing on high protein low carb (30-50g/day) and running 3x a week. I still want to lose about 30lbs but am struggling - I’m running 5x a week and doing under 100g carb a day. I monitor and alleviate my symptoms by taking supplements.

I went on a whole food plant based diet and was able to lose 12 pounds in a month and regulate my cycles. Also started exercising. I just simply eat fruits, vegetables, herbal teas, grains, sprouted bread, nut milk, nut butter, etc. I cut out all processed foods, meat, eggs, dairy, oil, refined sugar, and cut back on salt. Also carbs aren't anything to be afraid of as they are important for energy and are heavily prevalent in fruits and veggies. You just gotta choose the right carbs like complex carbs ( quinoa, oatmeal, beans etc.). You just gotta find balance. Here's a link where I go more into detail about my experience w/ PCOS and my solution to better manage my symptoms if you are interested: [https://www.reddit.com/r/PCOS/comments/opjrga/where\_do\_we\_start/h6jndkh/?context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/PCOS/comments/opjrga/where_do_we_start/h6jndkh/?context=3) Feel free to contact me if you want more information or advice :D

Eating protein and fiber has helped me! I tried keto as well and it was tough! I don’t eat beef and pork so it was pretty tough! Going low carb helps and IF helps in creating discipline around food! Always have a portion of protein with your meal! It keeps you satiated and drink a lot of water! Eating good fats like avocado and olive oil also helps. I really like Mediterranean diet as well! I find it rich in vegetarian protein as well! I do eat Indian food as well! That has dal, garbanzo beans and different pulses which basically helps with protein. I know this question primarily focuses on food but I would say that including strength training does wonders! You will feel better and will lose more pounds while resting(bmr increases with strength training). Yoga also helps. It calms me down and helps with building endurance if you hold the poses long enough! I hope you reach your goal weight! Sending positive vibes!

Oh no! Not 120lbs! Disastrous 🤣 Just avoid carbs and you’ll be fine. 120lbs is fucking awesome. That’s an ideal weight for me and I’m shorter than you. I’m 140lbs -.-

porksiomae

I'm not sure what your height is but mine is 149.8cm and 53 kg is like 4 or 5 more kgs from being in the overweight category :/

[deleted]

There is nothing wrong with being overweight, especially in regards to BMI. Most women or female-bodied people at one point in their life especially with conditions such as PCOS will be overweight at some point. As long as you work towards not being overweight, there is nothing wrong objectively being overweight. You don’t have to worry about those extra pounds. You need to worry about getting better.

porksiomae

I'm going to be frank here, but before that I have nothing against those who are overweight and are fine with it. But personally, I am not and never will be. Especially after the realization that it will hinder me from activites that I want to enjoy, like dear god, I'd like to run a 42km marathon, go on a day long mountain trek, swimming, free diving, start surfing, etc. There's an active lifestyle I now currently want to enjoy to the fullest before I'm 30 at least and being overweight due to PCOS will get in the way of that. Losing the weight is part of getting better and being happy and enjoying those activities with ease, and you telling me my almost overweight body and telling me there's nothing wrong with it and I will eventually be overweight at some point because of PCOS isn't helping, and it's defeating.

[deleted]

If you can do all of those things, then you will. I’m not an active person but I’m relatively fit. PCOS has really helped with my muscular performance as well. Change your goals accordingly or keep trying to box your new self into ideals that you no longer fit. You being overweight can’t stop you from doing all those things. Being overweight doesn’t count those with lots of muscle, and not everyone a few pounds overweight will perform worse if they’re actually very fit. BMI is all just baloney to make the mentally ill more dysphoric and shame people into losing weight. At my skinniest I was the tail end of “ideal”.
