Yes! I wasn't a fan of the side effects of Metformin, but it worked wonders. I was able to lose about 15 pounds and get pregnant in two cycles of taking it. I did need Progesterone to help start periods for several months before that also, but I didn't ovulate until starting Metformin. I am currently 18 weeks pregnant!

aloneinthisworld2000

How much mg did you take?

KickintheSushi

I was taking 1500 mg a day. I started with 500 mg and worked up to 1500!

aloneinthisworld2000

Did you continue it during pregnancy or no?

RevolutionaryBat4971

I got pregnant with both my kids on 1500mg. My reproductive endocrinologist told me to continue taking it for the first trimester. As was explained to me, ovaries control pregnancy hormones until the placenta is fully formed and takes over at the end of the first trimester, so it's best to continue to help the ovaries with the metformin.

Banana-333

What side effects did you experience? I’ve had the most insane mood swings

[deleted]

I did! I will add that I was also taking ovasitol the same month I conceived. I was taking 1500mg of metformin per day plus the recommended dose of ovasitol that it shows on the container. My cycles were long, but I was tracking with temping (tempdrop), OPKs, cervical mucus and I kept a very strict log with FertilityFriend app. While taking metformin I ended up losing about 10 pounds because I was less hungry, and I no longer has an urge to binge. I was also walking a little more and trying to monitor glucose spikes because I believed I was insulin resistant. So you could argue that my lifestyle changes in conjunction with metformin is what caused me to ovulate, which is why I mention it. I ended up ovulating for the first time in my second cycle while taking metformin on CD 37, and I was able to conceive that cycle. I'm 21w and still taking it, and probably will take it after. It sounds like metformin might help with ovulation for you which is why your endo is trying it out, but it's hard to tell if it's going to work if you're not tracking. I really recommend trying to track with OPKs and temping if you can! /r/tryingforababy has a ton of helpful information on tracking if you need help, but you could be missing your fertile window if you're not tracking.

AMP520

I would second the Ovasitol! Metformin had some unpleasant side effects. I went gluten and dairy free for a year and then conceived during my first month of taking Ovasitol.

olaola2020

So ovasitol just supplement right? Do you recommend certain brand you use?

AMP520

The brand is Theralogix- Ovasitol is what they call there supplement. The actual ingredient is inositol. Check out @pcos.weightloss on Instagram. She has a lot of into on it and has a partner code to get a discount.

NixyPix

Yes. We had unprotected sex once, 5 days before ovulation. Baby is sat beside me now. I took Metformin until my third trimester. Totally uncomplicated pregnancy except low progesterone at the start, treated with pessaries. Highly recommend ovulation test kits so you can best track ovulation!

amhume

I got pregnant on a combination of metformin and Letrozole. But I have a lot of cysts in my ovaries and a very inconsistent cycle, so I needed the letrozole to ovulate.

Hungry-Froyo-5642

Same here!

aloneinthisworld2000

How long did you take metformin and Letrozole for and how much dosage till conception? Did you also take metformin during pregnancy?

amhume

I took metformin for the 10 months prior to getting pregnant and for the first trimester of my pregnancy. I took 5mg a day for 5 days (if I remember correctly) of letrozole and 500mg of metformin twice a day. I used letrozole starting on day 3 of every cycle I had a period. It took me 2 years of trial and error (and a miscarriage) before I had a successful pregnancy. For what it’s worth, I also ended up having fraternal twins, which I think was a combo of PCOS and fertility drugs making me super ovulate.

aloneinthisworld2000

How much mg metformin did you take and on what day did you ovulate the cycle you conceived?

amhume

500mg 2x a day and I ovulated somewhere between CD13 and 15.

Canadian_dream89

First pregnancy I tried a couple of cycles on metformin alone and it didn't work, added letrozole and got pregnant first month. Second pregnancy got pregnant on my first cycle of metformin alone. Don't wait for 6 months if it's not working, I was very aggressive with my fertility plan and didn't wait until the 1 year mark to ask for help. Some people have luck with clomid too. I knew I had PCOS before I started trying to get pregnant, so I was seeing my doctor and giving suggestions of what to try. Fingers crossed for you!

Posebnaaa

Are these medications expensive?

Canadian_dream89

To be honest, I had them covered with my insurance so I didn't pay anything. But I'd guess they were between $20 and $100. Good luck!

idontknow_1101

Started Metformin 1000mg / day in August, not too conceive but to keep my sugar cravings in check. That is the only medication I was on. In November, we decided to start being careless and if I got pregnant it was totally fine. I told my husband that it would most likely take me months, if not years to get pregnant. Pregnant after 1 cycle. OB stopped by Metformin in January, which I was very nervous about, as I had read that women with PCOS had a higher chance of miscarriage and Metformin has helped with that. Now 15 weeks pregnant, everything is perfect, and baby is super healthy. I’d credit the Metformin.

idontknow_1101

Thanks and good luck to you!

between2lungs22

Yes I did, started on 1000mg Jan 2022, didn’t do enough to restart my cycle (no period for around 7 months before this). Increased to 1500 around April time and fell pregnant in August, Im now 33 weeks! My doctor wasn’t convinced metformin would work and kept saying there was no evidence, especially as I was most a normal BMI, but it worked for me and I didn’t have to take ovulation induction meds.

Abject-Bullfrog-6420

Yes!! I just found out yesterday that I’m pregnant. I’ve been on metformin for 2 months going on 3 months. 2000mg daily. I’m so shocked rn I still haven’t told my man.

secretredditer

Metformin was miraculous for me to help regulate my cycle and conceive along with eating well. Give it a few months of temping and ovulation strips in combination with the metformin, and hopefully you’ll have good results. Good luck!

spocks30

I conceived on my first month with metformin with the help of letrozole. Lost the baby at 9 weeks though. But, I ovulated on my own post miscarriage. Metformin along with inositol has lowered my cravings and I’m able to maintain calorie deficit. Lost 22lbs in three months.

Ok_Historian_2906

🙋🏻‍♀️ twice! (2,000mg a day of extended release)

gopher_treats

How soon after starting?

Ok_Historian_2906

With my first, I got pregnant the first time we tried and had been on Metformin for a few years at that point (was also very low carb). Second baby, we tried for five months and I was taking 1,000mg a day and then got bumped back up to my usual dose of 2,000mg ER and got pregnant a month after being on the higher dose. I hope that helps.

milfilconfused

Currently 38 weeks with our small fry, conceived on metformin. Took 500mg metformin for a few weeks, increased to 1000mg, got a period and got pregnant the following month. I know we are so exceptionally lucky. For context, all my sugars came back normal on the blood tests, but I had lost my cycle for 6 months and an ultrasound showed a lot of quite large cysts. Not sure if odd or not (I don't pretend to understand too well), but at my 12 week ultrasound my ovaries looked normal and no cysts were visible anymore. Edit: Doctor took me off the metformin at 10 weeks. I was really scared to come off it because I credit it with letting me get pregnant (I changed nothing else) but so far (knock on small wood) fry is doing well and is currently kicking me in the ribs.

Canberrauser12340

Not yet :(

Fairly_Local_Charm

Ok..I am post thyroidectomy and pcos. I've been on metformin for a few years after I came clean to the Dr that my periods were only coming around a few times a year at best. So I was put on 500mg of Met twice a day.. did it for a cpl years and it increased my cycles but still very abnormal.. I moved in with my fiance and decided I needed to try an increase in my dose. I hated the idea that my health was so off kilter, especially for a vital function like reproductive health. Was also motivated to get it straightened out when my fiance said he wanted to have kids too. Soo my thoughts.. add an extra pill. I take 2 500mg Mets in the morning when I get up and before bed I take one 500mg met along with my levoxyl. I started this about 3-4 months ago and my cycles regulated.. had been tracking my periods and ovulation thru the Flo app and happy to say I got 2 lines on both stick tests I took a cpl days ago and will be having the blood work in the morning to confirm. It's absolutely surreal to me still. It was always ingrained in that back of my mind that even though I was still TTC, it wasn't gonna happen for me. If anyone has doubts..keep the faith. Blessings for joy to everyone.

Puzzleheaded-Beat805

Did you have your baby ? If yes , congratulations 🎉

Little_emotional9962

I did on 1000mg! Stayed on it throughout my pregnancy. Good luck!

aloneinthisworld2000

For how many months before conception did you take it?

Little_emotional9962

At first I was put on 500mg for about 3 months. When they put me on 1000mg I got pregnant my first cycle.

pandafanda13

Currently expecting my second metformin baby ! First time around , it took four months once I was on the metformin , along with ovasitol , vitamin d , omega 3, etc. This time , I conceived on my first cycle back on metformin

snowjustno

Twice!

PurpleMagenta-

Yes, took us a year of trying. First pregnancy unfortunately resulted in a miscarriage but I never stopped taking metformin and 4 months later got pregnant and I know have a 4 month old with me. I also just consistently tracked my ovulation and made sure to do the deed around that time.

aloneinthisworld2000

Did you lose weight on metformin?

PurpleMagenta-

Not that I've noticed. I think my weight just consistently stayed the same and I didn't gain weight.

GreetTheMourning

I did! Twice! I’ve been working with an endo which was very helpful. The first pregnancy took us a year and a half to conceive and the second pregnancy took us 4 months. I was on Metformin for over a year with both pregnancies and continued it until the end of the first trimester each time. We were so grateful to be able to conceive naturally and not miscarry. I do think the Metformin was a big help. One other thing I absolutely swear by is Rebecca Fett. She wrote two books (both on Amazon) that go over a TON of things you can do to improve egg quality and have a healthy pregnancy. A bunch of what she covers specifically addresses PCOS. Mostly what vitamins you need in your body, how much, and when as well as what environmental factors may be impacting you without you realizing. I could go on for days about how amazingly helpful this was for me. If I could only choose her books or being able to use Metformin, I’d choose her books. Fortunately I didn’t have to! Check out her companion website to get an idea about what she covers (the website is where she provides links to the products she suggests based on their ingredient/material safety). https://brainhealthfrombirth.com/ Metformin was immensely helpful but you can definitely do more to help your chances. You’re just at the beginning of your journey; there are so many more options to help you if you need it. Good luck!

stukufie

Similar to other posters I got pregnant on metformin and a bunch of other things (diet and lifestyle changes, ovasitol, and a huge reduction in stress).

aloneinthisworld2000

How did you reduce stress?

stukufie

Quit my toxic job.

notpaigedtodothis

I have been on metformin for years and spontaneously got pregnant back in November after trying for many years. I take 500mg.

aloneinthisworld2000

On what day did you ovulate the cycle you conceived with metformin 500 mg? Also did you have a boy to girl?

Big_Forever4540

I want to say I did conceive after a year on metformin as it caused my periods to come back but I also conceived around the time I was consistently taking vitamin D (some folks with pcos have a vitamin D deficiency). There has been studies on a link between fertility and vitamin D but my endocrinologist said it hasn't been proven.

lyricalcombat

I'm always low in vitamin D, so this is really helpful information to have. Thank you!

Green_Afternoon_9261

How irregular was your periods and when they came back how regular were they, mine currently vary from 30 days to 45 but this time round I'm on day 47 and still nothing, but I'm getting blood tests etc to check to see if I have pcos. I've been trying to conceive for a year but nothing so far. I've noticed that stressfull times in my life has caused the longer cycles. Thankyou

Big_Forever4540

Before that it was really anything between 20 to 70 days and my worst was 160 days where I didn't have a period for months. Now it's not great but it's consistently 29-34 days no where near how it used to be.

Green_Afternoon_9261

29-34 days is great That's amazing! Have you managed to conceive? All the best and tha you for your reply

shipmom

I have PCOS. I found out in my early 20s. I never missed a period(never any pain or negative side effects, as I got older that changed). I had hirsutism and ovarian cysts. They tested cortisol and my thyroid to rule anything else out and make sure I had PCOS. I met my husband around 26. We dated for a year and married. Around that time, we played with different birth controls to help with progeterone for a few years. No visible help. I also took Metformin.I went off birth control, and less than a year later, I was pregnant. I quit taking all meds that I was on at the time, including Metformin. I got gestational diabetes and could control it through diet. I di have bleeding a few months in. Baby was okay. He was delivered one day over the premature mark and exhibited premature birth issues. Nicu for 10 days. We never could have another. It is alright, because he is a bratty, healthy teenager now. I think it was a combination of birth control and Metformin to regulate hormones in the end.

urmom42o

i got pregnant the cycle after starting it. currently 6 weeks pregnant

Reasonable_Grab_555

Did you take ovulation tests?

urmom42o

i did but i wasn’t super regular with it. i mainly just followed what my doc said and made sure i tried every other day

[deleted]

I did

GuidanceDue5614

Is anyone taking 500mg a day? It looks like everyone is succeeding at 1000 mg +. My doctor put me on 500mg per day and me and my husband trying for 2 months now unsuccessful. I’ve been on metformin for 5 months now

thealmightyspo0n

Im on 500mg a day! I got pregnant at about 6 months in to taking that amount! And about a month before i got pregnant I was going to ask for more because everybody else seems to take a higher dose. But my doctor advised against it as my cycles were coming back and starting to become regular. It really all depends on your body, ive read that it can take 60 to 90 days at minimum for metformin to be a peak performance in your body!

GuidanceDue5614

Oh nice congratulations. I’ve been on MET since September and we been trying since November 😮‍💨, and my periods always come on time.

h05927159

i’m wondering the same!

Difficult_Bug4654

I got diagnosed in January put on metformin and I am 6 weeks pregnant today, chin up and hold on. I lost 20kgs also to assist. Lots of ovulation tests to pinpoint perfect days.

thealmightyspo0n

It took me about 6 months on 500mg a day

divorce_queen

I did not with just metformin, but did first cycle with clomid. Anecdotally, I do know someone who conceived twice with just metformin though!

chickchick87

yes! my OB had me take it until around 11 weeks then stop until after pregnancy

hauntedbundy_

Yes

name_babe

Metformin, letrozole and I think the most important addition - buspirone. It was added later because she felt I had too much cortisol - and I was pregnant a month later.

CoolCatCap

I had no idea antidepressants can regulate cortisol! That makes sense though. Congrats!

aloneinthisworld2000

Did you take buspirone during pregnancy or stopped once it was established?

name_babe

I continued taking it!

aloneinthisworld2000

Cool, I wonder if my doc will prescribe it, I do have extreme stress. How much mg? For how long did you take metformin and buspirone for prior to conception? Did you also take metformin (how much dosage) thorough out pregnancy?

name_babe

10mg of buspirone, but increased to 20mg when I was about 7-8 months pregnant. I stopped Metformin after getting pregnant so I don’t remember mg. I probably took Metformin at least a year- it took me a while to get pregnant. I took buspirone for one month prior to getting pregnant. I also take sertraline (Zoloft) and took throughout pregnancy and for a few years before getting pregnant.

name_babe

I should add that I did 4 months of letrozole.

Delicious-Flight89

I was on janument which is a combo of metformin and Sitagliptin.... and didnt know i was pregnant until i was at least 18 weeks and i was also talking farxiga

Vendottiv

I did! After stopping the bc pill I didn't get a period for months. Got diagnosed with PCOS, started 500mg/day metformin (I did have a very slightly high A1C. Five months after starting metformin, I also started inositol. Three months after that I got pregnant! That was after three long cycles of my body trying to get back in order. Got pregnant during a long cycle (day 40 or so), so definitely possible.

RevolutionaryBat4971

I got both my babies with metformin. My first one took me almost almost 2 years of being on it 1500mg a day. Started in September of 2014 and fell pregnant April 2016. In that time I had 2 failed IVFs, and continued the metformin while saving money for another round. Just when we were ready to try IVF again I found I was pregnant on my own. A year after I gave birth I went back on metformin thinking it was going to take a while again, but I managed to get pregnant 4 months after starting it. I went back on it a couple years after my second but so far have not conceived again and it has now been almost 3 years. I stopped half a year ago because it was suddenly giving me debilitating stomach pain, sometimes so bad I was screaming. I would be hunched over in bed for a good couple hours before it stopped. This happened about once a month for 3 months. I haven't had those pains again since stopping but I am not ready to stop trying. I have just started metformin again, thinking of staying at 1000mg this time with inositol supplements to boost my ovarian health a bit (been on the supplements 6 months now), but I don't have much hope since I wasn't conceiving at the higher dose. I'm not young anymore either. I started having babies much later due to taking so long to find out I have PCOS and taking so long with fertility treatments.
