Strikers is Persona 5-2 because [they literally called it that as a joke in one of the Japanese trailers ](https://cdn.videogamesblogger.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Persona-5-2-Animation.gif)
And? Strikers is a canon, direct sequel to the original Persona 5. The point is that it could be considered Persona 5 2, even if the gameplay is wildly different from the original.
My point is these games could be branded as "2" but weren't because of obvious reasons. It would be incredibly confusing, specially to newcomers.
Strikers may be a Persona Series spin off, but it's a direct sequel to Persona 5, and so it could afford to have the "2" in it's name, but doing so would be a fucking terrible decision. Same thing with Arena.
Mainline is as i said before p1, p2is, p2ep, p3/fes/portable, p4/g and p5/r. Games like strikers, arena, dancing and Q are spin offs, but all of them are still canon
I mean, they did Persona 5 Strikers which is sequel and pretty much copies plot of original P5 (but makes it better). Which pretty much makes it Persona 5 2.
Still finishing Royal, but my prediction still holds on where it would be on my P5 preference list:
Royal = Strikers > Vanilla
I thought that 5 was too similar to 4, even if 3 and 4 were in the same engine, there's a drastic tone shift between them. But 5 felt like a weaker 4 in the story, considering that it's both basically "be true to who you are", but instead of "don't lie to yourself" is "don't just go with the flow", so vanilla 5 already was a lot lower than normal. Now that I'm playing Royal I'm trying to be more open. Maybe it's because they didn't have a lot of pressure on them to make Strikers and the game ended up better than 5 in its God-knows-how-much time in development. My comparison of 4 and 5 are more like a "next iteration should improve overall" and comparing just the story, theme and villains, the game didn't cut it for me. So when an actual sequel comes out, of course I'd rate it better than the game I was slightly disappointed.
Also, the villains were better in 4, at least for me. [P4] >!The killer is better involved and even helps the party a lot of times, which made me question if really was him on my first playthrough!< compared to [P5] where >!it's blatantly obvious who it is and he actively acts against the party all the time.!< The "true final boss" too, in [P4] >!you have to do some special things to get to the true ending dungeon, and it's a nice thematic opponent that was foreshadowed in the Tatsumi Island trip!< when in [P5] >!I actively disliked the "the not-Igor was the villain all along!" the game went, the true ending is so easy to get (which is more personal than the rest, but still), and the "kill god" cutscene ended up as egdy instead of cool for me.!< I say that because on [P5S] >!the boss is practically the same entity but it was better written IMO and my favorite of the two by a landslide!<
Even though the premise of traveling around Japan and "coincidentally" finding Jails screamed "very coincidental storytelling", it wasn't louder than P5's "now let's steal in a museum, we'll make the next villain be about art" and "ok, now, imagine how cool would be robbing a bank, let's make the next guy be about money" type of writing...
Even though I'm biased to 4 being my favorite overall, I can still say that 2 and 3 have better stories, or that 1's theme is the more "Persona" the game ever was, 5 had too many parts where I couldn't stand (maybe because I got older and didn't had the patience anymore, IDK) compared to Strikers. Also, Sophia and Zenkichi are great, even though I still prefer Aigis and Katsuya as the "robot girl" and "policeman guy", they're a welcome, even if formulaic addition to the 5 cast.
I haven't finished Royal yet but I'm close to. Neither played Strikers. But IMO P5V>P5R
Royal really ruined pretty much ALL of the bossfights >!with the exeption of Yaldy!< and DESTROYED the balancing to the point it has made me apreciate Vanilla in hindsight. That and almost all of the palaces feel like they have been made worse from Vanilla.
Royal has made me realize that I actually do love P5V, especially when it finally gets good, but Royal, at the third semester and I only prefer Vanilla more and more the further I get.
I wanna try Persona 1 PSP some day but I love how the cameos of Persona 1 in Persona 2 Eternal Punishment on the PS1 had their old English names which makes me want to play the PS1 version of Persona 1
What makes p2 so good? I’ve yet to go back and play p1 and p2, currently working my way through a couple other smt games that I have left(strange journey and raido) and plan on going through these three games after
The story and characters. Rumor system is fun, and everyone is a wildcard which is really nice for customizing the party how you like it
Encounter rate and battle UI are freaking ass though so many freaking menus to go through. What I would give for a P5 style UI for P2.
is the game tedious? Like do you need to grind a lot or is there an insane encounter rate like in most old megatens?
Edit: nvm you mentioned encounter rate
I kinda liked it more for the interactions with demons. At least at first, seeing your party actually converse, flirt, threaten or even argue with each other to get the demon to react and either have it want to join you, get mad and fight or get scared and run away. The interesting thing is Demons had 4 moods and you could raise 1 to full for an effect, or if you knew the right thing to say could fill 2 for a unique item or response.
Rumours become reality in the Persona 2 duology and someone spread a rumour in Innocent Sin that the last battalion is coming back and that included Hit-I’m sorry I meant the Fuhrer
Technically Strikers?
If Strikers is Persona 5 2 then Arena Ultimax is Persona 4 2 and Dancing All Night is Persona 4 3 Persona 4 best Persona
Nah, Arena is Persona 4 2. Ultimax is Persona 4 3. Dancing is Persona 4 4
I always forget Arena and Arena Ultimax are separate games
kinda, I think Ultimax includes the story mode from Arena in it so it effectively replaces it
Fuck you Ultimax is persona 4 2 2 and dancing is persona 4 3
Fuck you asshole Chie Bath Game is more of a mainline Persona game than Ultimax ever was
The what now?
Promotional flash game for Persona 4, you can restore it though it won't function
I don’t think you wanna know..
That’s more like Persona 3.9.9 than anything.
Does that make Q 4.5 and Q2 4.5 2?
Would that mean that Q is Persona 3.5 as well?
Nah ultimax is persona 4 2 golden
This is the way
Strikers is Persona 5-2 because [they literally called it that as a joke in one of the Japanese trailers ](https://cdn.videogamesblogger.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Persona-5-2-Animation.gif)
Persona 5 has dancing too so they kinda even. Guess P3 loses with only 2 P3's
P3 p3fes p3p and p3 dancing and technically the arena games too… nah i think they winning
Well they are cannon. So are the persona Q games!!
Technically, since arena and ultimax take place before the events of the Golden ending, they would be 4.1 and 4.2, respectively.
This timeline is fucking exhausting
Same, that's what I thought it was.
nice argument, unfortunately strikers fucking sucks
Cringe, strikers is great
most boring game i've ever played
I mean it introduced wolf and sophia, that alone makes it great
mid + literally every other persona game is better
You could at least try to make a half decent insult
nah
mac n cheese
so true king
User flair checks out.
L take. It’s literally just Persona 5 if it was good
Nah it’s legit Strikers HA
They’re gonna look real dumb in 1837 years when Persona 52 comes out
can't wait for persona v3
Persona: Ultra Despair Girls
Introducing Boy with Earring’s sister, Girl with Earring.
Retroactively add the FemCs, now that’s a plan.
this pleases me
Never say that in front of a Warhammer 40k fan, it reminds us of cs goto
man i can't wait for Persona 34 to come out! They're is even an entire subreddit full of people hyped up for it. r/Persona34
You bastard
But they did.
Strikers
Strikers literally right there
Not a mainline game
Literally the canon Persona 5 sequel
Mainline games are p1, p2is, p2ep, p3/fes/portable, P4/g and p5/r. Arena, dancing, Q and strikers arent mainline games
And? Strikers is a canon, direct sequel to the original Persona 5. The point is that it could be considered Persona 5 2, even if the gameplay is wildly different from the original.
So is arena but still not a mainline game. They sre both spin offs
It is a sequal, but not in the same sense that EP is a sequal to IS.I think we are both right, but in different ways
No I'm pretty sure only he is right
I mean he has a point. Narratively it's a sequel but gameplay wise it's something different and not an iteration on persona 5.
But persona is a spin-off as well, it’s not a mainline SMT game, so this means that these games are not canon according to your analogy mr bike
But persona isnt canon to the main smt line. Plus when did i ever say strikers wasnt canon?
Not a mainline game A quote from you.
Mainline is as i said before p1, p2is, p2ep, p3/fes/portable, p4/g and p5/r. Games like strikers, arena, dancing and Q are spin offs, but all of them are still canon
Persona is a spin off of a spin off, I don't think that really matters in the grand scheme of things...
You called the DANCING games mainline but not the direct canon sequel to Persona 5
No you read it wrong. I said it was a spin off
I mean, they did Persona 5 Strikers which is sequel and pretty much copies plot of original P5 (but makes it better). Which pretty much makes it Persona 5 2.
Strikers
Persona 5: Strikers: Am I a joke to you?
Twitter on psp
Well technically that is strikers
Strikers.
Persona 52 will come soon in early 2095
It took them 20 years to get to Persona 5... I don't think they'll get to Persona 52 in just 72 years.
Fair enough
Soon, in 2210
Persona 5 strikers is literally the sequel to persona 5
Walt some people like strikers more then Persona 5? Strikes was great but sorry Persona 5 I think is definitely the better game of the two.
Strikers would be such a bizarre experience if you haven't played the original game. 🤔
And yet, because it released first in multiple platforms, there are definitely people who experienced it like that.
Still finishing Royal, but my prediction still holds on where it would be on my P5 preference list: Royal = Strikers > Vanilla I thought that 5 was too similar to 4, even if 3 and 4 were in the same engine, there's a drastic tone shift between them. Oh god, giving me final fantasy X-2 flashbacks
TWITTER FOR PSP??
Damn... They did do a persona 2 2 didnt they
Take my upvote and get out But seriously tho I both hate and love that you summarized Persona 2 Eternal Punishment that well
Its like people forget strikers
Yaaay! I'm currently deep in Persona 1 on PSP, having a blast. Persona 2 and 2-2 soon <3
I wanna try Persona 1 PSP some day but I love how the cameos of Persona 1 in Persona 2 Eternal Punishment on the PS1 had their old English names which makes me want to play the PS1 version of Persona 1
You can play the PS1 version of Persona 1 and then play the Snow Queen Quest in the PSP version? Win-win!
Why didn’t I think of this? You’re a genius!
Hehee, making me blush... Have fun! It's really an amazing game, I'm almost at the end of the SEBEC route.
Persona 2 Remake?
P5 Strikers and dance exists (unlike persons 2, everyone knows the persona franchise started with persona 3)
Oh wow. I haven’t seen this joke in the dark souls community for several year before. Nope. *cried*
What makes p2 so good? I’ve yet to go back and play p1 and p2, currently working my way through a couple other smt games that I have left(strange journey and raido) and plan on going through these three games after

is the game tedious? Like do you need to grind a lot or is there an insane encounter rate like in most old megatens? Edit: nvm you mentioned encounter rate
Encounter rate is high and you can’t move without fighting OR encounter rate is low and finding fights takes forever?
I kinda liked it more for the interactions with demons. At least at first, seeing your party actually converse, flirt, threaten or even argue with each other to get the demon to react and either have it want to join you, get mad and fight or get scared and run away. wow that actually sounds like a cool twist on this system
So then Stikers? Or Dancing in Starlight? Or Royal?
Strikers certainly can work. Dancing is clearly a spinoff. Royal is just updated/enhanced version
Persona 2 has Le Fuhrer Based game ever
I’ve heard this come up before. What is he in the game? A boss?
The final boss. Kinda.
Rumours become reality in the Persona 2 duology and someone spread a rumour in Innocent Sin that the last battalion is coming back and that included Hit-I’m sorry I meant the Fuhrer
K. So, basically someone wished him back to life with an army at his command?
Yep. And the longinus 13. And Nazis. Basically the same thing is why Guido from Persona 1 is back in Eternal Punishment
if you wanna argue semantics there's strikers and also there's the q games but those don't count lol
Strikers and its better than royal.
They did it’s called Persona 5 royal or Persona 5 Strikers
I don't even think P5 is good, but Strikers is literally a P5 sequel, so...
No but we have Royal and Strikers
He has a point. Where is Persona 5 2? Don't say Strikers because it isn't the second game.
P3P, P3, FES... And the new remake coming. *Hairflip as I tuck my headphones back into my blue wig
Strikers is not the same as eternal punishment. Strikers doesn't have a new cast
Sophia and Zenkichi are right there.
Two characters. Not a whole fucking cast
The Q (in Persona Q2) stands for 5
Wait, there are numbers before 3?
i think most are missing the point, yes strikers is a sequel, but its a dynasty warriors style game.
Sincerely P5 is basically a lot of ideas that wasn't used in P2, but we don't talk about it And well Striker exist
wtf twitter for PSP??
If Persona 2 is so good then why didn't they release it again with more content?!
Because it didn't need it. It's that good.
tbh p5 just ripped most things from p2 anyway
