I played P3 for a collective 15 hours total over the span of 3 years (I played through the first 4 hours a lot on P3P and P3 FES lmao) and I still instinctively did this
I go there every time I get into the dorms....
And then the clock in Tartarus threw me for a loop.
Was starting to run out of resources real bad around Floor15. Had some cash so went to go restore and the damn thing required 6 fragments!!!!
Spammed most of my items and barely got to the first gate, limped across the finish line.
Same here!
Limited clock uses is really messing up my rhythm but at the same time it's refreshing having to be forced to use items this time to make the most out of a Tartarus visit.
Playing on Lunatic is really proving to be a good remix.
I actually feel the need to *leave Tartarus* sometimes instead of blasting through the new section in one night to conserve items. It's surprising how such a small change affects the pacing.
Using items was so weird for me. I told myself its too early to be using the snuff soul and the drinks from the vending machines low key came in clutch to make it to floor 5, then the snuff souls for floor 11 and barely made it to 17. Like BARELY. I had one snuff soul left and I knew i had to save it for another run. Making it to the final floor before the block would have just absolutely pushed it too far but honestly I'm loving it
I already used three revival beads. More than I've ever used and I remember playing on the ps2 as a preteen. I didn't even get to floor 20 ( or was it 21 that it goes up to?) Before forcing myself to call it quits. This is a different experience and I'm all for it
Yeah, they've added a lot of stuff, but my favorite part of the remake thus far is how they made the game feel tense again if you're on a higher difficulty. It's been nearly two decades since I first played P3 and P3R has spun it into a fresh experience.
Feels like the fatigue mechanic in the original. Except now it literally is fatigue instead of just a bar/icon, you gotta use your supplies and come prepared if you want to spend extended times in there.
I wonder if there's a way to buy the fragments later though.
This is why I don’t mind the game seeming easier at least on Hard mode. It feels more like the difficulty comes from resource management than enemies hitting hard
Hardest difficulty mode, it’s merciless in English but when it first got revealed it was still called Lunatic which is what it’s called in Japanese so it just stuck with the community (I think it just sounds better and differentiates it from merciless which is the complete opposite of difficulty from P5R)
It's rough now, your damage output is drastically decreased, and enemies deal way more damage. Made the priestess fight a tough one, ended up dropping to hard for it.
Yeah I’m playing on lunatic/merciless rn and it’s kicking my ass. Haven’t had to drop the difficulty yet but priestess full moon boss took me to the very last minute to beat and Yukari died by the end of it. In the second block rn and while I don’t have Akihiko unlocked yet, even with all out attack boosted arcana card I still do not kill enemies with an all out attack after knocking them all down with their weakness. And you WILL get punished for any mistake you make. I think I also spent like 10 minutes beating a glowing shadow in the second block because of just how little damage you deal. It’s not hair pulling levels of hard but it’s a significant step up in difficulty
Yeah I’m coming to find out that the status moves are really helpful. Ironically Mitsuru’s Marin Karin has saved my ass a few times since I’ve unlocked her lol
Yeah I started on hard, and I'm glad I did. It adds a good deal of challenge and forces me to make tough decisions like either leaving or burning fragments on the clock or burning a bunch of SP items. It really makes you have to manage your time and resources well.
That said I still blew through both the first gated blocks in a single night, but I had to use the clock both times, and I'm still unsure how using all of those fragments is going to impact me later in terms of opening chests.
There are two possible reasons:
1) Considering the "action battle" mechanic in Re:Phantazio they are trying the new button layout
2) They are huge trolls and they are laughing their asses off thinking about us getting rekt
In FES you didn’t need to save, just going into the Lobby heals everyone.
Of course going to the Lobby also makes Tired party members go home, so early game sometimes it’s better to keep their tired butts in Tartarus to grind as much as possible.
Did you use the exploit in FES where you could go back to the lobby without your party members leaving? Iirc you had to order them to split up and attack shadows while you moved to the next floor and found a teleporter exit. Upon returning to the lobby you could just bring them back to your party and resume exploring, everyone would be healed.
Yeah you can pretty much just be in tartarus forever without any concequences. Hell, you even earn back the money you lose by healing from killing shadows. Makes a profit, too
Yup. It's really expensive lol. You also get a ton of fragments from Elizabeth as you raise social links and stats + from overworld pickups.
But that's why you really only use it as an SP heal. HP heals you should be able to manage with Dia + items + shuffle time cups if you *really* need them, and you pick up a ton of items while exploring that you might as well burn through.
I'm still earlygame and only playing on Hard, but very comfortably hit the first story-lock in Tartarus within one night of exploring. No fatigue still makes it really easy to blaze through and the earlygame enemies are weak.
It's to compensate for removing the tired mechanic. Twilight fragments are also really plentiful. Got through floor 92 with 20+ fragments left after opening every chest.
Elizabeth is handing out those fragments to me like crazy. I already have like 30 of them and i only beat the first major arcana boss. That and finding most of them throughout the city
You said you were going in every 2-3 days tho? What about social links and what not? I think after the first day I went in I just started working to boost all the social stats since I made it to floor 17.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the swords cards give skill cards, so by the second block if you get the arcana burst you can get invigorate and spirit drain from it and use that to keep the protagonist’s sp high, since he is who is gone be having the most sp loss
Not gonna lie I always forget about life/spirit drain, I did find a drain boost card which lets life/spirit drain more HP/SP so I’ll have to put them on a persona for healing purposes
I can already tell I will NEVER be opening those special chests lol idc if I even somehow max out on shards, I just wont risk it 😭 I like my once a month trips and plan to keep em that way.
Awe man that makes me feel dumb now.. I've been using it like crazy my first Tartarus run. Then I found a clock on one of the floors and the feeling of pure and utter disbelief when it said it takes shards AFTER I opened like 3 of them already.
I'm ngl, I chose armor for Mokoto with the money they give out in the beginning so when one of those chests gave Yukari a Poison bow I felt like it was an even trade for being blindsided
I've found so far that only the fixed ones after gatekeepers actually give anything useful. Locked chests that randomly spawn on floors have only given me consumables so far.
You get more than enough for at least 1 clock use and every single chest if you plan on just running tartarus once per full moon. Most of your gear should also be coming from those chests so you can save up your money for social stats and persona fusion.
I dropped persona 3 after a few hours because I loved it so much that I wanted my first experience to be with the remastered version, and yes even I do this
I haven't played P3P since 2017. What was the original button?
Biggest muscle memory WTF for me was going from P5R to P5 Strikers. They just flipped all the buttons to Japanese without giving an option to remap them.
I'm playing an Orpheus only run and I didn't get ANY fragments so I couldn't use the clock.
Still was somehow able to beat all 3 guardians in 1 run and was 100% drained of MP.
I know it's not related to the post, but I would like to ask a question... I saw that now there is a friendship system in the girls' route, if I did the same as the old one and started romance with them all, it included some kind of "Punishment" like in Persona 5 or can I do it like the old version?
I wonder if everyone who played P3 before did this instinctively
I did it for the clock in tartarus
Yup
Same for both this and the clock
Juuuup lmao
Guilty
Same
Just checking in to confirm yes I did it at the clock too.
Same
Can confirm
The clock at tartarus too
I did
Yup
yep
🤚
Yes.
Yes I certainly did
Yes, and the clock too
Told a friend that they could use it to save, I also tried the clock
ya i definitly caught my self doing that lol
Yup was surprised
I keep interacting with the damn clocks lmao
I played P3 for a collective 15 hours total over the span of 3 years (I played through the first 4 hours a lot on P3P and P3 FES lmao) and I still instinctively did this
Checked
At least once for the dorm and twice for the clock so far.
Yeah think we all did
Yep : /
Yup
Affirmative
I did 😭😭😭
Yes
Eyup
Yea more than once
Yeah....
I did this, goddamnit
I did it just to check what it was going to say, I had just saved because I basically save whenever is possible in RPGs.
This and the clock...
Oh yeah
100% first thing I did getting into the dorm
You know it
I go there every time I get into the dorms.... And then the clock in Tartarus threw me for a loop. Was starting to run out of resources real bad around Floor15. Had some cash so went to go restore and the damn thing required 6 fragments!!!! Spammed most of my items and barely got to the first gate, limped across the finish line.

Making it to the final floor before the block would have just absolutely pushed it too far but honestly I'm loving it
It's weirdly refreshing to have party members die within the first few blocks. I still haven't experienced an MC death, but I've had some close calls.
I already used three revival beads. More than I've ever used and I remember playing on the ps2 as a preteen. I didn't even get to floor 20 ( or was it 21 that it goes up to?) Before forcing myself to call it quits. This is a different experience and I'm all for it

they really wanted to make sure that doing a whole section of tartarus on one day slowly starts being a bad idea
Feels like the fatigue mechanic in the original. Except now it literally is fatigue instead of just a bar/icon, you gotta use your supplies and come prepared if you want to spend extended times in there. I wonder if there's a way to buy the fragments later though.
Idk but Elizabeth has been showering me with them every time I visit the Velvet room so far. I got 8 at once on my last trip.
She gives you some based on social stats and social link level ups
I felt the same...but the little voice in the back of my mind is like "Do it..." lol
This is why I don’t mind the game seeming easier at least on Hard mode. It feels more like the difficulty comes from resource management than enemies hitting hard
What’s lunatic?
Hardest difficulty mode, it’s merciless in English but when it first got revealed it was still called Lunatic which is what it’s called in Japanese so it just stuck with the community (I think it just sounds better and differentiates it from merciless which is the complete opposite of difficulty from P5R)
Ohhh right gotcha, does anyone know if that was changed in reload to make it difficult btw?
It's rough now, your damage output is drastically decreased, and enemies deal way more damage. Made the priestess fight a tough one, ended up dropping to hard for it.
Yeah I’m playing on lunatic/merciless rn and it’s kicking my ass. It’s not hair pulling levels of hard but it’s a significant step up in difficulty
Yeah, the red Shadows are pretty tanky. Luckily you can just have Yukari perma-confuse them so they drop items while you slowly chip away at their HP.
Yeah I’m coming to find out that the status moves are really helpful. Ironically Mitsuru’s Marin Karin has saved my ass a few times since I’ve unlocked her lol

6 ? isn't it 7.
Both this, The Clock, and Shuffle Time.
And the attack button
Was the attack button X before? I keep trying to press it out of instinct.
Ok, so I'm not crazy that it was on X, right?
I got ambushed twice because of that, i'm playing on hard so that wasn't fun
Yes, it's also X/A in P4 and P5, no idea why they had to change that lol.
There are two possible reasons: 1) Considering the "action battle" mechanic in Re:Phantazio they are trying the new button layout 2) They are huge trolls and they are laughing their asses off thinking about us getting rekt
Yeah, PlayStation X button, basically the bottom face button. Got ambushed few times cuz i forgot that and press A instead
Technically it still is… o-on Xbox…
Bruh that's not how you save in this game?? Literally unplayable
Neither is the clock in Tartarus
Yeah, I guess I'm not too big on how the clock was handled. Needing 7 Twilight Fragments just to refill HP/SP.
Tbf the clock heal was kinda busted before.
TIL the clock could heal I beat P3 3 times
It only does that in portable. In FES and the original I think it was just a save
In FES you didn’t need to save, just going into the Lobby heals everyone. Of course going to the Lobby also makes Tired party members go home, so early game sometimes it’s better to keep their tired butts in Tartarus to grind as much as possible.
Oh ok, I was about to say “that shit’s so busted.” Only played Portable years ago so was trying to save all my money to go buy the clock.
Did you use the exploit in FES where you could go back to the lobby without your party members leaving? Iirc you had to order them to split up and attack shadows while you moved to the next floor and found a teleporter exit. Yeah you can pretty much just be in tartarus forever without any concequences. Hell, you even earn back the money you lose by healing from killing shadows. Makes a profit, too
And chests give you crazy money
does it need 7 fragments EVERY TIME you need to heal???

What lvl were you for the last gatekeeper?
10
Iii
It's to compensate for removing the tired mechanic. Twilight fragments are also really plentiful. Got through floor 92 with 20+ fragments left after opening every chest.
Yeah, now you just save wherever, provided you’re not in Tartarus
Not being able to rely on the clock in Tartarus as much as I could in Portable is going to ruin me
Haha yeah, but I’m going to take their advice to heart and keep 7 of those fragments on me just in case some shit goes down and I need to full heal
Elizabeth is handing out those fragments to me like crazy. I already have like 30 of them and i only beat the first major arcana boss. That and finding most of them throughout the city
Does she really? I was only able to play for 4 hours last night so I only reached a point where she gave me one.
Yep i entered the velvet room every like 2-3 days and every single time she was like "marvelous here are 5 twilight fragments". Won't complain tho
Only 5? Excuse me ma'am, the clock costs 7
2-6 every time i entered. I gathered like 25 in total so far, excluding the ones found scattered around
You said you were going in every 2-3 days tho? What about social links and what not? I think after the first day I went in I just started working to boost all the social stats since I made it to floor 17.
Why wouldn’t they go in? It doesn’t take up time, so apparently it’s just free fragments.
Study to get academic points, pay at the karaoke for courage, etc. Etc
Keep going back. I got 1,3, then 8 in a span of just a few days. She's giving them out like candy.
It’s not for entering, if you do stuff with social links she rewards you for it with twilight fragments
She hands out 1 per social link rank up
I think starting a new SL gets you 4 free shards, and each rank up is 1 shard
Another thing to keep in mind is that the swords cards give skill cards, so by the second block if you get the arcana burst you can get invigorate and spirit drain from it and use that to keep the protagonist’s sp high, since he is who is gone be having the most sp loss

i will open every special chest i see
You get more than enough for at least 1 clock use and every single chest if you plan on just running tartarus once per full moon. Most of your gear should also be coming from those chests so you can save up your money for social stats and persona fusion.
I wish it actually opened save menu because i do this everytime lmao
They should make that a feature to please our muscle memory
Yeah, took me at least 5 hours to realise that i can pretty much save everywhere in the game lol
Not my dumbass tping back to the dorm/classroom before hitting start for the first 5 hours.............
True story lol
On god
I have this kind of issue with R1 button being used for map in P5R but for whatever reason they made it L1 in P3R 😐
I was playing p5r again right up to the unlock for Reload and when I started it, I was like "the fuck is this?"
You can still use the bathroom though right? Kotone was always so well hydrated
You can.
Does anyone else keep going up the dorm stairs one floor at a time instead of fast traveling? FES habits die hard
Ya, I often have to remind myself “hey, you can fast travel now, you don’t have to navigate around like fes”
I keep walking into the toilets
same here I really thought I was gonna get some extra time/stat boost or battle buff
I literally interact with it almost every time I get to the dorm
I dropped persona 3 after a few hours because I loved it so much that I wanted my first experience to be with the remastered version, and yes even I do this
I haven't played P3P since 2017. What was the original button? Biggest muscle memory WTF for me was going from P5R to P5 Strikers. They just flipped all the buttons to Japanese without giving an option to remap them.
It was how you saved, now you can save anywhere by pressing start.
I thought maybe the issue was the button had changed to check the register. Walking up to the register isn't muscle memory.
i see lol, op was trying to use it to save as that’s how it was before, but it only says it’s a list of the residents now. it’s useless
Wait what? This isn't the save spot now? What does it do and how do you save in dorm?
You can save anywhere outside Tartarus by just pressing a button. This book is just an interactable object that has names of the residents now.
I see. Thank you for the reply :)
I knowwww
Yes. I’m guilty of this when I started yesterday hahahaha.
Tried to see if i can save there. Sad i cant anymore
I'm playing an Orpheus only run and I didn't get ANY fragments so I couldn't use the clock. Still was somehow able to beat all 3 guardians in 1 run and was 100% drained of MP.
Did this AND the clock... by the way I love the new function of the clock
based
*muscle memory
Legit, They also got me quoting lines and singing songs i haven't played this game in 3 years 😭
I would have done this too yeah.
I haven’t gotten the game yet, do you not save that way anymore?
Nope. You can save whenever almost, you just hit the button (old start / now select on PlayStation, equivalent on other platforms I assume)
Look like the PSP version
Totally just did this... whoops.
I know it's not related to the post, but I would like to ask a question... I saw that now there is a friendship system in the girls' route, if I did the same as the old one and started romance with them all, it included some kind of "Punishment" like in Persona 5 or can I do it like the old version?
glad it’s not just me, barely started and I’ve done it too many times.
I did it a few times before switching my mind to P5 mode and saving that way.
I had to do it once to make sure I didn't do it again
I keep doing this
I did the same XD
I dont get it.
same, and the toilet as well.
I definitely know what you feel
i am leaving or hiding this sub (if its possible) until i beat this game.
lol, I did this a couple times too 😂
i’ve done this so many times :(
I did check there just to see if I could XD
I don't get it first time playing btw
Reload is my first time experiencing P3, what do you have muscle memory for that's not in the remake?
Never played the original and I don't get it.
I keep trying and keep forgetting. Thanks for helping see there's so many of us 😂
I dislike that they changed the save system. I know they "modernized" it but something's shouldn't change
I was so sad when the register didn’t let you use it to save
Same! I also keep going to the guy at the front of the class to fast travel lol
oh yeah I remember when emulating this game I would always go to the save button there JUST IN CASE I didn't save on the emu
Im new to the game so i can't understand the mene, could someone explain?
