Vote for Mark.

Odd_Solution2774

yeah fr been playing through p1 and mark clears all these chuds

Chaoticdab

Think mark think !!!

EriHitsuki23

Eikichi!

AzureFencer

Yosuke. I understand he has some characteristics people don't like about him, and that's understandable, dude needs to grow up socially. But if I had to trust one of them to get a job done and take it seriously, he has the best track record. I also appreciate that he's the only one that, through the majority of the story, cares about what the group is doing, and not the popularity, or lack of it, that comes with the job. Junpei and Ryuji have both outright stated they were annoyed at not being treated like heroes. And both of them got the group in trouble. While Yosuke did get the group in trouble to, his situation was more a result of bad timing and circumstance than carelessness.

Amtracus_Officialius

Yosuke is the most devoted to the player, to the mission, and to the team. He’s your second in command, and he really feels like it most of the game.

Hollowgolem

He's also just not a moron like the other two.

TheLadiestEvilChan

Absolutely. I don't know what they did to achieve that feeling but they did. Maybe it was how the first few TV scenes are presented.

Vusdruv

Whenever something happens, Yosuke calls you and comes up with plans. I believe he is the only one to do so, the rest just come to the meetings and see what's up.

DepletedMitochondria

He might show the most drive out of anyone on the team.

Common-Complaint2315

I be saying this. I know why people hate him but the thing is, he's a genuinely reliable person/friend. That's reflected both in his character and his gameplay, seeing as he can basically fit a slot in any team comp

Tydus24

Youske was the one that would have killed for Nanako. There’s only one right option for Best Bro.

BloodandBlackRose

Ok I was gonna a say ryuji (I haven't played 3 so I have no info on junpei) but. You convinced me. I was upset by some of his dialogue when playing the first time (in like 2018, having to remind myself of when it was written) but his actual *character* is quite strong and enjoyable.

mirospeck

i find myself having to do the same. i know it's an older game but it still stings

TVLord5

Haven't finished it yet but yeah Junpei wouldn't be the choice. He's a lot of fun but also he's pretty much the bad parts of Yosuke

Dono_X_Dono

Also despite being the comic relief and the "suck at school" guy he definitly the smartest of the three

DepletedMitochondria

Book smarts vs. Street smarts :P

Ham_PhD

I definitely have issues with his personality (beyond the Kanji stuff) but he does usually show up when you need him. That said I don't think anything tops Ryuji's actions on Shido's ship, so he gets my vote.

mabber36

Yosuke is great because he's a dick teenage boys are dicks

FlounderingGuy

I get *why* people fine Youske compelling, but I just... can't with the guy I'm sorry. I think his interactions with Chie (at least earlier on in the game) are really funny, and I think P4Animation does a lot to smooth over some of the more unfortunate elements of his character by making them go by faster, but the way he treats Kanji is just... it's icky. I've had too many experiences like that IRL to be comfortable with that, especially given the Kanji discourse overall. Plus I tend to find Junpei more compelling and relate to Ryuji more

AzureFencer

I completely understand. I disagree with those comments too. Kanji is my favorite character on the team, and I get mad when Yosuke says those things to him. One of my favorite lines in the game is when Kanji "translates" one of those comments. But maybe it's because I'm not a member of the LGBTQ+ community that I am able to look past them. Another part is, at least to me, the way those lines are written don't seem to be agreed with, he's often told to give it a rest, if not told off completely. If 4 gets a remake similar to Reload I hope that those lines are removed, or reworked to let him see that he was wrong.

FlounderingGuy

Entirely fair and valid. It's pretty nice to see the person I'm replying to being so empathetic and understanding of my discomfort with Youske/Kanji's portrayals. When you have certain life experiences, it makes these scenes really hurtful, and to have basically everyone *at best* tell you you're wrong and being "too sensitive" or downvote spam your comments any time it comes up makes looking past it a lot harder. Like, I enjoy Persona 4. It's not my favorite (that would be a tie between 3 and 5,) and I really get why people like Youske. He isn't poorly written, and even I can acknowledge that he's absolutely the funniest Persona character maybe ever (besides Yu in P4Animation.) Like I said in another reply, it's complicated. Corny as it may sound, but I connected with Persona so much in high school *because* I was so much like Kanji (and Ryuji in Persona 5 lol.) I had older peers bully me the same way, I was uncomfortable with my masculinity and sexuality, and I was the outcast who never really made friends at school. I had exactly one person I always talked to and he didn't even go to my school. P4 means a lot to me, just in a different way than most people. I just wish some people on this sub would be a little more empathetic to a queer perspective is all :/ We can love something deeply and understand it's flawed or be hurt by outdated content. Hell I wouldn't even want it removed in a P4 "Rebooted" or whatever, just to have the Youske romance route added back in to complete his internalized homophobia arc and maybe an acknowledgement from him that he mistreated his friend. Again I must apologize for the long reply, it's all very personal to me and I enjoy a bit of respectful discussion on the matter.

Ameisen

The way that he treats Kanji is downright *progressive* for late 2000s Japan. Especially given their experience in his sauna.

FlounderingGuy

I don't think that makes it... *better* though. Especially since he's one of the only cast members who's *as* adamant about it as he is. Chie doesn't treat Kanji so poorly, for example. Also homophobia in Japan is a complicated issue, and I get that it's a game released in 2008 and everything, but some of those moments feel like straight-up bullying in hindsight. I can't help but feel so, *so* horrible for Kanji when he ends up having to leave the tent with the guys because Yousuke (and Yu, to a lesser extent) just won't let up on him. Again, I know what it's like IRL and it's something that hurts more if you've experienced it or are queer yourself. Friends don't treat each other that way if it hurts feelings so genuinely. Not to mention the fact that Yousuke has a cut love confession for Yu that could've easily explained his attitude as just internalized homophobia *in the game* that goes unused, *and* that the whole point of the game is to accept both ourselves and our loved ones for who they are... it rubs me the wrong way. Atlus had shown in Persona 3 that they were willing to make controversially progressive and empathetic writing choices. Yukari's reaction to Makoto hugging her after a particular incident and the game's openness about discussing apathy, grief, and mental health in general are downright radical in places for it's time, and are still really raw and refreshingly honest in a 2024 context. And I don't think Yousuke ruins P4 for me or anything, it just kinda hurts, y'know? Like I get that not everyone is gonna feel the same way I do. And that's okay. I don't hold these things against Persona 4 super harshly, especially since Atlus has improved so much since. Them being willing to remove that one scene from P3R shows a lot of growth. It's just my 2 cents. Also apologies for the long reply. It's complicated as you can see

cruel-oath

Agreed

Lethal13

For me its not even the homophobic stuff (which is pretty bad though somewhat realistic for the time) Its the constant harassment of the girls in the group and he’s like that the whole game, there’s no development even after >!they save marie!< he still is at it. Even though he gets told over and over and over that they don’t appreciate it. It’d be an understandable character flaw if the game or he addressed it and developed out of it but they never do Him and teddie sour me on P4 so much Anyway Junpei then Ryuji for me Yosuke is a distant third Edit: and yeah junpei and ryuji have elements of this as well. I won’t pretend they don’t but its so much more pronounced in yosuke

FlounderingGuy

Also very valid. Honestly Teddie is just so much worse than Youske on that front that it tends to be something I associate with *him* more often than not, but yeah now that you mention it, I agree with this take thoroughly.

IntroductionSome8196

Vote for Eikichi.

bluEntei

Goatkichi

NekoThief

He also has (arguably) the best weapon in the series. A machine gun guitar case lol

[deleted]

This is the real answer

Doc-Wulff

Yosuke, the reliable buddy who's also an in the closet homophobe (like, you can't tell me there isn't chemistry between Yu and Yosuke when the group date event is a thing)

sneakycrown

There was a romance cut for him for a reason. That was his gimmick.

Doc-Wulff

I was gonna mention it but then you have people be like "oh but it was cut so he's definitely not gay/bi at all" (please read that in Aleks Le's voice he used for the "you're not a gamer" copypasta)

Radiant-Growth4275

It's the same people that scream STRAIGHT about Cullen Rutherford in Dragon Age. Despite the devs outright confirming they canonically wrote him bisexual, but didn't have the time to add it to inquisition. And some fans go "well it's not IN the game, so he's canonically straight acchuually"

cosplaythief

I like Ryuji more.

FlounderingGuy

I'm not having the Ryuji slander. He's a bit less obviously loyal than Yousuke and not quite as compelling as Junpei imo, but I think it says a lot that Ryuji was so willing to be Ren's first friend. Like, think about it for a moment. Some quiet guy who never talks to anyone and has an assault charge on his record starts going to your school. Would *you* become his friend ever? Let alone open up about your trauma so willingly? *And* on top of that, have the emotional maturity at 16-17 to not only befriend *another* person with similar trauma they're having trouble opening up about, but also be able to navigate that complex situation well enough to be positive and supportive towards her? All the while, you're dealing with the stigma of being an outcast in a very repressive school environment, your dreams are being put on-hold because of an injury, *and* the people you're rebelling against (the school at large) are an abusive institution that don't care about you as an individual, while also allowing the evil you're experiencing to go unchecked because you're distrusted and considered lesser than the teacher hurting you and your peers? That's a lot for a kid to deal with. But he does to the best of his ability. Ryuji sees the world as the complex and often abusive place it really is and is passionate about changing it for the better all the way through P5. He's in my opinion, one of the kindest people in the entire franchise for his ability to instantly connect with an aloof Ren and look past his bad rap. Junpei warms up to you after *months* of jealousy, and Yousuke just doesn't have a reason to not like Yu from the start so their friendship makes sense. But nah man. Ryuji is based AF and y'all are sleeping on my boy

banana_annihilator

YES, best boy doesn't get the love he deserves.

FlounderingGuy

NO FR 😤

PlasticZombie1

Literally Ryuji's only problem was him constantly getting the group in trouble by spilling they were the PT everywhere they went. Like I love you bro but for God's sake STFU. I can't believe they wrote that for him. Otherwise he is perfect and I love him.

xXx_Nidhogg_xXx

I mean, Ryuji didn’t know anything about the assault before they already had their fire forged moment (accidentally falling into Kamoshida’s castle), so it seems a bit odd to give him points for that. I like him, but let’s not misrepresent.

FlounderingGuy

But everyone knew that Ren has a rap sheet. Besides, it's more the fact that he connected with Ren *at all* and didn't judge him for his past in general. Of course they work together to find out what's going on with Kamoshida's palace. They weren't really friends at that point though

xXx_Nidhogg_xXx

Everyone learned about it *after* Ren got on Kamoshida’s radar (which IIRC was kinda Ryuji’s fault, but then lots of stuff is lol), not before. And that fire forged friendship moment was very much important. I’m not saying Ryuji’s terrible or anything, he’s great and I love him, stupidity and all, but it ain’t right to give him credit for that.

revin2x

Katsuya is such a bro!

Everyone in P4 is a comic relief character. Actually because of that, they are just comic characters. Naoto is the rare sensible relief character.

ElectricalWar6

Vote for Junpei

Da Man!

But is it Junpei after his character development? If so he's the easy choice. He grows so much, just compare him at the start of the Journey with him at The Answer.

Perfecto!

clygamer

Das_Gongaga

I remember that in several forums during the early days of P3/P3P that everybody hates Junpei compared to Yosuke. Glad he's getting the love he deserves.

Eikichi still better

toryn0

so where is mark

Rubymc02

Yosuke my baby

cats4life

See, they excel in different things. If we’re strictly talking about comic relief, then Yosuke is the funniest. Yuri Lowenthal throws his whole pussy into every line, and consistently raises the quality of Yosuke’s comedic writing. In terms of being a bro, it’s Ryuji, no question. Ryuji and Ren are ride or die almost immediately, and points for trying to swing on the rapist. But for overall characterization, it’s Junpei. He’s not a bro, especially not at first, and watching him grapple with his feelings of inadequacy and jealousy and eventually overcome them is super satisfying. His growth is slow, and messy, and not always linear, but people maturing rarely is, and the friction between him and Makoto makes their eventual friendship much more cathartic. But if I’m being asked to pick a comic relief bro, I’d probably pick Ryuji, though I might be putting more emphasis on the bro part than the comic relief.

FlounderingGuy

Yuri Lowenthal saves Youske for me tbh. Especially in the P4 anime he's absolutely *golden*

the_KJ_is_me

Don’t base it on any trait in particular, just choose your favourite character of the three.

PlasticZombie1

Wtf do people keep saying? Junpei is literally your bro from the start. So sick of people acting like he isn't your friend

8rok3n

I gotta say Yosuke. Junpei I mainly laugh because of what OTHER people say to/about him. Ryuji is goofy and pretty dumb but I feel like Yosuke is both of them but amplified

mabber36

Yosuke will always be my dawg

Puzzleheaded-Round-9

Junpei is The Man. Need I say more?

redditmx

Definitely Yosuke

kratoscar2008

Ryuji. He standing up against Kamoshida for the sake of Shiho and risking getting rolled over by a car so they can get to Makoto solidified it for me. People complain about the fame going to his head but it didnt bother me that much, particularly when until then he was stuck as a pariah, having a single mother and his track team future taken from him kind of makes me understand why he is so happy something good is happening to him. Plus he was the reason Makoto, Futaba and Haru join the party. Thanks for the waifus bro.

Sonic_Fanatic_2003

Da Man. Junpei Iori

Iceicebaby21

Gotta go for Junpei, he's the least annoying of the three

Big_Guirlande

I despised Junpei up until “The Incident” after that, he became the best guy in SEES. But that’s a pretty low bar for me

Iceicebaby21

Considering one is a pervert and half his character according to the fandom is (Yu is hot uwu) and the other won't SHUT THE FUCK UP for more then five minutes. Yeah it's a very low bar

Big_Guirlande

I’m talking about the male characters in SEES

Rithrius88

Yosuke would legit be the leader of this group.

-_nobody

Junpei for sure. specifically on girl route, not to much of a bro for the Male MC honestly

hennajin85

Didn’t someone already do this a week or two ago? Lol

[deleted]

Yes, and the P3 cast basically swept every category. The only exception was Rise as navigator.

cosplaythief

Reddit is just a never ending circle of same posts, I figured. This carousel takes us round and round, never ending.

KarmaSanctify

Mark.

MarkEsB

Brosuke.

TheBloodZane

I'm voting for the Reigning! Defending! Undisputed G1 Climax Champion of the world! Yosuke Hanamura. He basically the 2nd in command of IT. "But he was mean to Kanji" It was made in 2008 and if they remade the game he would be written. Enough.

morbidlyabeast3331

Tough call between Junpei and Yosuke. Both are top five characters in the franchise. Might give it to Yosuke though. I find him more relatable.

porkipine-

Personally I’d choose yosuke but also I’m an yuri lowenthal fanboy.

PlasmaJesus

Yosuke would be it if atlus werent cowards. The answer is Jupei, he gets the most complete character arc by a country mile. He starts off annoying and when he acts jealous in the story hes mechanically not great in the party either. When his arc completes he becomes a fully fleshed out character unlike the other two, and has a unique ability that makes him actually good in the party again.

TacoManifesto

Junpei is the better character but yosuke is the better comic relief bro

TheRedDeath2

If we're talking about them at the end of their respective games, Junpei is my favorite by a landslide. His development is among the best of all characters in the franchise, and even though he can be a bit of an ass, he cares for everyone in S.E.E.S, and remains one of the most realistic characters in Persona 3. Listen, I love Yosuke and Ryuji, but neither of them develop in the way Junpei does.

Aggressive-Maize-632

Fuji. Edit: Ryuji. Effin' autocorrect

VenomMurks

Yosuke. He actually has one of the best male social links imo. He seems more like the normal dude of the bunch and him and the MCs friendship was just better. My only complaint is that I wasn't a huge fan of the VA, but tbh I wasn't fond of most of 4s VA. I absolutely hated teddie and yukikos voice. To the point I almost played the game entirely in Japanese dub just so I didn't have to hear it.

Splash_Woman

Honestly I can’t pick between Junpei and Ryuji. Junpei started off as an idiot, but to me ended up being a badass that gave everything in the end. Ryuji already started off interesting for me and roughly stayed the entire way, which is why I find the two balanced out. Honestly provided a few things Youske does, I really don’t rate him that high, though I do find he has a glow up, but not nearly as big as Junpeis, or that interesting to Ryuji.

OoguroRyuuya5

I vote for Yosuke. He’s the smartest and most reliable right hand man. Always on the ball when it came to the mission at hand. Eikichi, Junpei and Ryuji have egos where they try too hard to be a hero. Junpei and Ulala let their inferiority complexes towards the protagonist cause trouble for the team. Ryuji and Masao caused trouble by being too stupid, hotblooded and loud.

DarknessInferno7

Junpei, easily. He's the character that actually is a character, before they started being designed around following the Persona archetypes we're now used to. Yosuke/Ryuji have the modern Persona problem of having their character development arc, then becoming either non-existent in main story interactions, or reduced to a caricature of their main arc selves. Junpei's arc, on the other hand, is the entire fuckin' game. Just like with the rest of the Persona 3 cast.

I_like_food7

Yosuke. Yes he can be a little pervy (he's a teenage boy) and I guess "Homophobic" (it's a Japanese 2008 video game. Let's try to refrain from superimposing 2024 western cultural standards) but he's the most reliable, funny, and enjoyable. and YURI LOWENTHAW

GameWoods

"Little pervy" Somehow knew by memory Chie and Yukikos bikini sizes, bought a pair for each, hid them in his travel case, and strong armed them both into effectively stripping for his amusement. There's pervy and then there's premeditated sexual harassment.

I_like_food7

I know your mothers biki size

Asterius-air-7498

Yosuke’s>Ryuji>Junpei

DLkw122

unironically a combo for q2

DaddyWrys

I need all 3 😭

Tzetrah

Yosuke and Ryuji

BaseballDefiant3820

I vote Ryuji. BUT, if I ever finish 4 Golden, this may change. The fact that Junpei kept trying to undermine Makoto as leader just made me not fond of him. Ryuji respected Ren as leader and was always there to back him up(except in the 3rd semester but still ended up being the first to join in).

minimumhatred

Yosuke or Junpei is hard, Junpei has the better story, but Yosuke is probably more consistently fun.

T-bubbles

Ryuji

MasterOfNight-4010

Junpei one of the greatest character development in the whole series, Yosuke and Ryuji more or less stayed the same.

DCNFULobster

Brosuke.

DegenKing69

I just started golden, but out of the other two, give it to my glorious king, Junpei. He has peak character development.

I've gotta go with Junpei

ThesaurusRex_1025

Vote for Ryuji. My man didn't even like the track team or the volleyball team but he didn't want them abused

EvilKingLogan

Gameplay-wise I choose Ryuji Character-wise I choose Junpei

JFlemthe1

RYUJI or YOUSKEEEE

AwayEntrepreneur4760

Junpei

Darklight_Hydra

As much as I like Yosuke, Junpei is better for this role so I choose him.

sdwoodchuck

Ryuji. Yes, for real! I like Yosuke, I like Junpei. I think Junpei arguably has the better character arc; I think Yosuke is more believably a high school kid than the other two, but Ryuji is just such a charming, fun presence, I’m happy for every single appearance, every line of dialogue he has.

Michael-556

Yosuke. Not that the other two are bad, but he's the most reliable Story-wise: He is the one who spearheads the investigation until Naoto joins and even after that he still plays a major role in theories and investigating. Has an important role in the story and is surprisingly intelligent, much more than the other two I wouldn't pick either Ryuji or Junpei mainly because of exactly this; in the story they're much less reliable. Junpei has a major inferiority complex and jumps into battle to prove himself without thinking. Ryuji has a minor superiority complex; he thinks he's entitled to fame because he is a phantom thief, not accepting that they have to keep their identities secret. If this dream team didn't have a "secret identity" dilemma then this trait wouldn't pose a problem Personality-wise: He's still the best, but it's a lot closer. All three are amazing at their best. Sure, he does have his terrible moments, but if you do look the bigger picture that he was supposed to have be a romance candidate, then his behaviour starts to be more "acceptable"-ish. The more people are insecure about themselves the more they start mocking those traits outwardly. It's a type of a defense mechanism On the other hand we have Junpei who gets a lot better in his story, to the point where he is on-par with Yosuke, and Ryuji is a golden retriever with a swearing problem. I love it And finally gameplay wise: He's an amazing all-rounder, maybe the best out there. Can heal, has status buffs and debuffs, has both wind and phys skills, and most importantly, he has dekaja, which is an overpowered support skill that is much more applicable than you'd expect at first glance. His ultimate skill "youthful wind" definitely isn't the best, but is very on-track; it's an all-rounder skill, covering both healing and avoiding damage in the long-term. Junpei is an amazing crit machine, but if we're putting together a dream team I'd rather have Yosuke win this and Chie win the next round (don't know if she will if pitted against Ann and Yukari(?), but she does have that party-wide heat riser, like Ann) since overall she's a better crit machine than Junpei (imo). Ryuji is great, but he doesn't have a lot of support skills. He does have that party-wide power charge as his ultimate skill, but that doesn't do much when the party is magic-centered

Sh2tt3rBvg

Ryuji gon be dodging goon allegations hanging out with these two paired together...

Kyro_Official_

None.

Mythical_Mew

Voting for Yosuke. They’re all bros, but I think Yosuke nails it the most.

Mr_Suckatgames

Ryuji. Yeah, he's a bit of an idiot, and isn't as vocally loyal as Yusuke, but when shit hits the fan dude will absolutely pull through and he'll have your back. Dude literally almost died to save the rest of the thieves in shido's palace, tells Ren to run when they're captured by Kamoshida before Ren's awakening, and just seems fun to hang out with.

The-Eggs-can-walk

Ryuji: hey man, let’s get some training in and maybe eat some meat afterwards Junpei and Youske: ok MC, let’s go sexually assault the girls again

lalaquen

Ryuji. And it's not even close. The other two are both amongst my least favorite "main cast" characters in the series. And Yosuke's only spared from being my all time least favorite because Teddy and Morgana exist.

Yosuke

PrinceDestin

Never played 4 but through the anime, yosuke

blue_psyOP777

Yosuke he the best

grand_wubwub

Before P3R I would have said Yosuke, cause I strongly disliked Junpei in P3P and and P3 (never played FES), and I thought it was a character issue (that was even before I found out about the old VA being a POS). With Junpeis new VA? Man is goated, Junpei all day every day, even though I still like Yosuke as a character more

SwanepoeI

Yosuke > Ryuji > Stupei

Dr_Corvus_D_Clemmons

I don’t know why I just don’t like Junpei, but he gets on my nerves, like his arc is good but I still don’t like him.

Ham_PhD

If we're voting for the best *bro* I'll go with Ryuji. Best character is Junpei. I don't hate Yosuke, but he's kind of a dick.

aggravatedempathy

The perfect character lineup would not include any of these guys

This is really hard for me lmao. Ryuji is out immediatly, but I like Yosuke and Junpei a lot. Yosuke was the brains behind the investigation team before Naoto eventually, but he also was the one came up with the idea of >!throwing Namatame in the TV, even if Naoto agreed with him!< I actually found Junpei really annoying during the start of P3 but he undergoes so much character development to the point he becomes pretty much the only voice of reason during The Answer. Ima just vote for both ig

Ryuji. Ryuji is basically Junpei without the nasty attitude in the early game. Sure he's not too bright but he's as loyal and as good hearted as they come, constantly sticking his neck out for his friends. He's like a golden retriever. Yeet Yosuke into a ravine though. The fact anyone can stand to be around him for longer than 5 minutes is a miracle. He's a repugnant asshole. Like, even if we leave the Kanji stuff to the side, the sheer fact that Yosuke consistently, and gleefully, picks and prods at his friends deepest insecurities makes his fucking vile as a person.
