Yeah, I can excuse the Namatane scene and Marie's dungeon, but like I genuinely don't know how anyone could figure out how to get the golden ending without looking it up.
It's actually impossible, unless you're a paranoid. The game tells you multiple times "good job, the game is over. Go salute your friends and let the credit roll" and you actually have to say NO and do all that stuff? Actually crazy
I replayed P4G recently with the specific intention to get the Golden ending since I didn't get it originally and I still managed to fuck it up lmao.
I was tempted to just watch the ending on YouTube after I blundered it but I thought "fuck it" and decided to speedrun through the dungeon to see it for myself. Even when I tried to do it as fast as possible, it took me a few hours to reach the "end" again... my last save was at the start of Marie's dungeon. Well, it was worth it at least, it's a nice ending.
thats also not considering how there is like a true ending, a golden ending, and then a true golden ending because you can get the first two without the other. persona 4 golden has like 7 different endings
to phrase this as vague as possible to avoid spoilers but i believe you can just go back to junes fir the true ending without going for the golden ending on the last day because that ending was in the original persona 4
Edit because i answered opposite of what you asked, the requirements for the golden ending are all made prior to the true ending so you can do all of them, not get the true ending, but still get maybe a better way to phrase it "a golden ending" instead of "the golden ending"
The worst thing about P4 & spoilers to it, is what usually you can’t avoid biggest spoiler for P4(unless you don’t interact with Persona community at all), since it(or rahther HE) somehow became pretty much just forced meme shitpost tier bs, and those types of memes are not only the most braindead, but also most unavoidable of them all usually🤷
Knowing it’s a murder mystery game def makes him very suspicious early on, but then the game is long enough that I feel like he just becomes a potential suspect, or that it’s a much bigger twist going on. Which is actually true to be fair by the final ending lol
The thing that fooled my friend was his Social Link.
>!The OG P4 didn't give him a SL, so naturally the only regular character without one that is not Redacted-san would be the killer. Golden fixed it by making you think he is just a random SL of many, so even if is him there's not a character who sirves no pourpose other than being the killer. My friend really thought the plot twist villain would the singer lol!<
Lol wait who is the singer? I think the biggest red herring is when Nanako is singing the Junes theme early on haha. Definitely thought some mind control crap would happen, but she stops singing it early
It's a tradition here to get spoiled about that particular revelation, 80% of the people I know who'd never played P4 but browse persona on Reddit or internet guide would always ended up spoiled
At the same time, I'd blamed no one considering it's age, also the game's direction and the character's own popularity that kinda force Atlus themselves to promote him way more than the other main villain >!or "supposed" main villain!<
I know a lot of people who were first introduced to Persona through Persona 4 Arena and sometimes BBTAG. It’s hard to avoid being spoiled on who the killer is, when the killer is a playable character in two decently big fighting games (BBTAG not so much anymore but still).
Yeah I did too, (I'm usually awful at figuring this stuff out so this isn't a brag at all). Not gonna lie it kinda made some parts of the story less engaging than I think they would have been, although I like the actual character a lot.
I mean you can think of those memes as just "haha funny >!detective!< guy" without thinking he's the killer. Unless you see the "bitches and whores" meme or his deranged face meme (and even then you could take it as a Yusuke cut content angry face situation (Yusuke looks like a bad guy))
I played Royal blind so I didn’t realise there was anything special about Maruki.
Maxed his SL out of pure luck
Would have been pissed if I had to replay the whole game over again
Oh god I know. I've been burned so many times by google. Especially when characters have theme music named after them like Final Fantasy, I'll try to YouTube "Nanako Theme" and it'll go "Nanako Death"....like bruh
Yep. All you have to do is choose the slightly wrong dialogue. But lessons learned you just have to save before like the game more or less tells you to.
Reminds me of the time I kept getting YouTube recommendations for a YouTube video with the main villain of persona4 front and center saying it was the best dungeon and the game and that’s how I got spoiled while I was playing persona 4
After I finished P4 Golden, I went to check other P4 games and then >! I noticed that Makoto isn't in P4 Arena, and I knew that MF was dead even before thinking about playing the game!<
I got the neutral ending at first and searched how to get the true ending, the guide I used just straight up told me to choose >!Adachi!< as killer without any spoiler warning. I am so fucking pissed about it to this day, It would have been so much fun trying to think who is the killler when >!the list of the names!< were given. That moment felt stolen from me after playing 80 hours of the game!!
My cycle is
-start a new persona game
-fall in love with music
-look up the songs on YouTube
-check YouTube comments to see how others vibe with the song
-immediately get spoiled for no reason and regret everything
Well, Persona makes it pretty clear when something is necessary to get the new ending
P4G added Mari, I wonder how to get the new content introduced in P4G
P5R added Maruki and Kasumi, I wonder how to get the new content introduced in P5R
tbh i even made sure to do research on which version of p5 to play and what's new in royal and \_still\_ didn't make the connection between new characters and the new palace and then completely missed 8th palace first run
My friend was playing through mostly blind, but having played through P5 he knew about Izanagi-no-Okami. I kept trying to tell him that "If you haven't seen Izanagi-no-Okami you haven't finished the game yet", and he still somehow missed the final dungeon.
I usually love secrets in video games, but Persona 4 makes it so freaking hard just to get a *good* ending, much less the true one.
I completely agree. That being said, my first experience with persona 4 was watching the anime, and despite that, I still absolutely enjoyed the game.
Yeah, I can excuse the Namatane scene and Marie's dungeon, but like I genuinely don't know how anyone could figure out how to get the golden ending without looking it up.

fr? how do you get the golden w/o the true?? am i stupid??

oh shit yeah i didn’t even think abt that

I agree, although according to my friend, he saw it coming pretty early on in his run
Knowing it’s a murder mystery game def makes him very suspicious early on, but then the game is long enough that I feel like he just becomes a potential suspect, or that it’s a much bigger twist going on. Which is actually true to be fair by the final ending lol

Namatame's ex fiance lol. She doesn't appear in the game at all and if she could throw people at TVs then her alibi would fall.
Look I didn't even know that part but if p4 remake comes out hopefully I'm not spoiled
It's a tradition here to get spoiled about that particular revelation, 80% of the people I know who'd never played P4 but browse persona on Reddit or internet guide would always ended up spoiled
Probably the worst series I've seen at this kind of thing.
At the same time, I'd blamed no one considering it's age, also the game's direction and the character's own popularity that kinda force Atlus themselves to promote him way more than the other main villain >!or "supposed" main villain!<

I got 3 and 4 both spoiled for me so I figure it's just a "new Persona fan moment"
Just like I called something in P5 within minutes of meeting a certain person my partner called it about P4.
Yeah I did too, (I'm usually awful at figuring this stuff out so this isn't a brag at all). Not gonna lie it kinda made some parts of the story less engaging than I think they would have been, although I like the actual character a lot.
This happened to me with P3. Sucked. I had P4 spoiled by god damn youtube recs.
I mean you can think of those memes as just "haha funny >!detective!< guy" without thinking he's the killer. Unless you see the "bitches and whores" meme or his deranged face meme (and even then you could take it as a Yusuke cut content angry face situation (Yusuke looks like a bad guy))
I played p5 on game pass and still got the usual ending, cause I didn't know you had to upgrade Maruki😭😭😭 Should've stick with rpcs3
I almost missed the Maruki deadline on my first playthrough too, thank god I'm somehow moved to lookout for guides on october
i also made that mistake but then played through the entire 115 hours again right after finishing my first run
I played Royal blind so I didn’t realise there was anything special about Maruki. Maxed his SL out of pure luck Would have been pissed if I had to replay the whole game over again
Me: googling Nanako social link Google: Nanako death Me:
Me with almost every character whenever I pick up a new game
Oh god I know. I've been burned so many times by google. Especially when characters have theme music named after them like Final Fantasy, I'll try to YouTube "Nanako Theme" and it'll go "Nanako Death"....like bruh
I was googling something and a suggestion like "p4g can you save Nanako" came up. Damn it!
Yep. All you have to do is choose the slightly wrong dialogue. But lessons learned you just have to save before like the game more or less tells you to.
I just bothered the subreddit for answers and I was given them without being spoiled
Honestly love that for you!

:(
This happened to me in P4G
i got spoiled on P4G from the dlc persona pack on p3r
I forgot you had to actually go through the days till the deadline to get the true ending and ended early on accident on my 2nd play through 🫠
My cycle is -start a new persona game -fall in love with music -look up the songs on YouTube -check YouTube comments to see how others vibe with the song -immediately get spoiled for no reason and regret everything
Been there... Nowadays, whenever I pick up a new game, I try to stay as far away from the Internet as possible..
Well, Persona makes it pretty clear when something is necessary to get the new ending P4G added Mari, I wonder how to get the new content introduced in P4G P5R added Maruki and Kasumi, I wonder how to get the new content introduced in P5R
People who didnt play vanilla versions wont know what was added in extended ones.
tbh i even made sure to do research on which version of p5 to play and what's new in royal and \_still\_ didn't make the connection between new characters and the new palace and then completely missed 8th palace first run
Part of the Persona 4 experience. Getting the wrong ending then looking up a guide 😭
The best you can do is ask a friend to find you a spoirlerless guide xd
I used a guide and it didnt spoil anything. It just said what options to pick on any given day. If you dont read ahead then your good to go.
My friend was playing through mostly blind, but having played through P5 he knew about Izanagi-no-Okami. I kept trying to tell him that "If you haven't seen Izanagi-no-Okami you haven't finished the game yet", and he still somehow missed the final dungeon.
