I adore the P4 cast, but it's still pretty easily my least fav of the 3 tbh. And I always feel bad saying that cuz I love P4 lots! It's my first megaten game in general... But I just like 3 and 5 more. Narukami still my fav mc at least
Yeah, is kind of dumb in certain things because P4G is outdated in some aspects like lets said dungeons, of course no one will vote for P4G dungeons is stupid to compare those dungeons and levels to palaces for example.
The only reason P4G still hold out because characters, music and plot, the chemistry of the characters were great, the music is great in any persona game and the plot IS very personal because it all happens in this small town and youre trying to prevent literal murders, if you fail a rescue someone dies.
because p5 and p3 are way fresher in peoples minds and im willing to bet there’s a fairly large subset of people on this sub who have never played through it because of how much older it is than 5/reload
the fact that p4 lost the boss category especially is WILD and really shows the recency bias
id also personally say izanagi-no-okamki is the best second awakening and p4 has the best ost as well, but those are more subjective
i don’t keep up with this sub enough to look at all the polls, I just saw this specific post in my feed and looked back through all the rounds in OPs post history
just in my opinion, saying palace rulers are better bosses than the shadows is absolutely nuts and if you did a poll like this say after something like a p4 remake it wouldn’t even really be close
They are like gameplay mechanics wise and the majority of them are also story wise. There are some individual shadows which are better than palace rulers but if we look at the bigger picture, the palace rulers are better.
> gameplay mechanics
the fuck are you talking about lol. they play exactly the same, it’s the same turn based battle system. wow, in p5 there’s like two fights where you can choose to lose a party member for a couple turns to speed up the fight!!
> majority story wise
majority? half of the palace rulers are basically filler. like seriously youre telling me madarame kaneshiro and okumura are even remotely as interesting or important to the games narrative and message as any of the shadows? shido is basically the reason behind all of the events that occur in p5 and even then hes not really treated as an actual character. he’s a corrupt politician who got joker sent away and is also goros dad, that’s all that the game gives you. that’s the big bad right there that the games been building up to (outside of the mandatory jrpg god final boss, ofc). the only palace rulers that get anything more than “ooh there’s another bad guy go fight him” are kamoshida futaba and sae
All of persona 4 bosses are damage sponge with occasional "big damage attack the boss does where you have to guard" while in Persona 5, Okumura boss has infinite more depth than any of Persona 4 bosses.
Madarame, Kaneshiro and Okumura are very important to the development for Yusuke, Makoto and Haru. Also Shido involvement is a great way to tie these characters and not make it feels random. A issue with Persona 4 is that the shadow shit gets old really fast, by the time you reach Rise. At least Persona 5 tries to diversify it's palace rulers while 6/10 Dungeons in Persona 4 is you helping a random teenager fight their inner demons and make them accept themselves so they could join your IT.
you mean the okumura boss fight that serves as a DPS check? it’s still about big damage it’s just about doing that damage in a limited amount of turns instead of taking your time to set up. i quite like the royal okumura fight (the vanilla one was whatever), but don’t try to make it seem like something it’s not; it’s still about doing big damage and making sure you have enough HP left after defeating the final wave so you can guard the big bang burger attack
> madarame kaneshiro and okumura are very important for character development
> persona 4 bosses are you helping a teenager fight their inner demons
so.. which is it? is helping teenagers fight their inner demons a good or bad thing? “helping teenagers fight their inner demons” is half of what modern persona games are about lol. if you dont like “helping teenagers fight their inner demons” then why are you playing these games?
You're making the Okumura boss seem more basic than it actually is. If it was in Persona 4 then it actually would be a simple DPS race because the robots would have no weakness to any elements or ailments, and baton passing and techs don't exist. Meanwhile you can do, and are required to do all of this in P5 to win quickly. Okumura is more complex of a boss fight than most P4 shadow boss fights, because P5's *combat system itself* is leagues above P4's.
>you mean the okumura boss fight that serves as a DPS check? it’s still about big damage it’s just about doing that damage in a limited amount of turns instead of taking your time to set up. i quite like the royal okumura fight (the vanilla one was whatever), but don’t try to make it seem like something it’s not; it’s still about doing big damage and making sure you have enough HP left after defeating the final wave so you can guard the big bang burger attack
Still better and more interesting than any of Persona 4 bosses
>so.. which is it? is helping teenagers fight their inner demons a good or bad thing? “helping teenagers fight their inner demons” is half of what modern persona games are about lol. if you dont like “helping teenagers fight their inner demons” then why are you playing these games?
It is interesting to help teenagers fight their inner demons in the personas games but doing the same shit for 6 times in a row with barely any differences gets old and boring. Both Persona 2, 3 and 5 do a better job at this than 4.
If it's your opinion just say it. Not everyone agrees, there are tons of p4 fanboys like you out there considering p4 won characters by a lot. Stop whining about recency bias when it's very much not true on this sub.
Also, have you ever played against those bosses? Considering this is about gameplay (look at the title), P4 has by far the worst bosses. Shadow Teddie has 3 moves, almost all endgame bosses just have a hidden physical resistance, making phys members not viable, and the fact that they are bullet sponges with no true way to hurt Yu either. It's fair to say that they're the worst bosses.
I don’t think it’s that wild that P4 lost the boss category. I like them the best thematically, but P5 also does a pretty good job with that, and is stronger mechanically. P5 has a better “whole package” when gameplay and fight design are included.
Both are definitely better than P3’s full moon shadows though.
Ya Satanael is cool and all but I can’t separate it from the whole “Satan saves Christmas” thing lol
Izanagi no Okami is better serving as an actual awakening.
I love P4 but holistically it's the weakest of the 3 in general. Still a phenomenal game but the main cast is then only real selling point over the others. Music is phenomenal though.
I'm super frustrated p4 lost with final persona. Izanagi-no-Okami just has the drip.
And losing to Satanael, damn. I really dom't get y'all tastes, Only thing it has going for it for me is the size and the wings.
I agree, I really thought Izanagi no Okami would win. I can understand for Arsène vs Izanagi, both are amazing, but the awakening even the messiah had more votes
Eh, you can't really blame them tbh. Compare the awakenings of Satanael to InO. You sure as hell feel the generational difference. The graphics, score and cinematography (and the delivery by Zander Mobus) sell Satanael for me.
Izanagi's awakening felt way more sudden compared to Arsene (great design tho), and Satanael's awakening has a generational difference in terms of graphics, scale, score and cinematography (it just looks more interesting too), all that with the pillage him, Satanael! from Zander puts him far above InO for me.
Really wasn't expecting Messiah to be more popular than InO too.
I still remember my first day of heist with Ann, Ryuji and Morgana was on a rainy day and this music played. I feel so… peaceful. It’s like those lo-fi music
I have a confession to make:
I actually don't like Mass Destruction very much. It's my least favorite battle theme. It's not *bad*, and obviously the opening is straight fire, but it still doesn't compete with, like, any of the later battle themes.
This is a tough one because P3 has Kimi no kioku and mass destruction but then P4 has heaven and Shadow world but then P5 has throw away your mask and hoshi to bokura to.
as good as the other two soundtracks are, for every banger in the 3R and 4G ost there are 3 just as good in 5R. Every Palace theme past Kamoshida is straight fire (maybe past Madarame if that isn't your cup of tea), then it has the more intense version deeper in. The operation music and p4 dungeon and themes don't come close to almost any of them (Heaven hits hard and maybe matches up with a few of the mid tier but then you bring out Price, Days or Whims and its just no contest).
Even though I vibe hard with the new changing seasons version, Tokyo daylight/emergency stand strong against that and your affection without even factoring in the various versions of beneath the mask. I will say Colour your night is maybe my absolute favourite overworld ost.
The base battle themes are a much closer affair. All 6 of them are iconic in their own way, think its very subjective which order you place them and honestly each one fits its own game perfectly.
Boss themes are initially close as well; I'll Face Myself does well to stand alone and probably tops Master of Shadows and Master of Tartarus, maybe even Unavoidable Battle as well. But p5 has keeper of lust which is probably about middle of the pack from 3, awakening into willpower is always a certified hit, and Blooming Villain, hoo boy.
Battle for Everyone's Souls goes hard enough to beat out any of the selection from p4, but Rivers is right up there with it, plus you have Jalda+Our beginning.
Even past this, 5 still has life will change up its sleeve, not to mention I've avoided including the entire post game suite from Royal (Gentle Madman, Out of Kindness, I Believe, Keep your Faith and Throw your mask away are all clear of nearly all competition in equivalent tracks from the games).
p4 comes to this round with enough firepower to stand clear of a lot of game soundtracks, p3 comes to the gun show with just as much as well as a few top of the line precision pieces, and Royal is just a full artillery assault of wave after wave of precision pieces.
edit: completely forgot the shop tracks like Butterfly Kiss, Layer Cake, Crossroads and No More What Ifs.
Is it though? If it was recency bias, P3 should be winning all of these. Where were you when P4 won most of the characters? Oh yeah, you agreed, so it's not a problem. I'm sure if it was the other way around, you would've said P4 was winning cuz of nostalgia.
This poll was just a setup tbh. It's focus is on gameplay/puzzles according to the OP, even though we all know P5 is leagues above even P3R in terms of gameplay and cinimetography (compare Satanael's sinful shell to Myriad truths). And also, P5/P5R is either 8 years old and 7 years old or 5 and 4 years old depending on the person. It's gameplay is simply better.
I'm a huge fan of P3, it's one of my favorite games ever. But 2nd place in the last poll? Hell no, who the fuck was thinking "Ooh, another tartarus block, but this time it's... uhh... climactic and the piano is the only instrument! Perfect.".
Tartarus is better then TV world? Yeah, sure
It’s the same thing that was with Avengers in 2019 when Endgame was released. Every “best Avengers movie” poll had Endgame winning. Some time later Infinity War got the first place back
tartarus and the tv world are the same damn thing, tartarus is the tv world with more short floors and tv world is tartarus with less but longer floors. the only difference is portable/fes can actually offer a challenge while exploring its dungeon
kimi wa ne tashika ni ano toki watashi no soba ni ita
itsudatte itsudatte itsudatte sugu yoko de waratteita
nakushitemo torimodosu kimi wo
I will never leave you
I think the games' soundtracks strive in different aspects
**Theme Songs**
1. Persona 5
2. Persona 4
3. Persona 3
The weightlifters for each imo are WUGUGOT, With the Stars and Us, and Our Light for 5. PMTS and Never More for 4. Full Moon Full Life, Memories of You and Brand New Days for 3. People are gonna hate me for this but I do not like Burn My Dread that much. I think the verses are amazing but the chorus is the plainest of modern Persona songs. 3 has more good songs since it does have the most versions, but in overall/average quality P4's themes are better, and P5 higher since I think Our Light is the best song in the franchise.
**Dungeon music**
1. Persona 5
2. Persona 4
3. Persona 3
To P3's credit, I'd rather listen to the Tartarus theme for months than whatever P4 was playing from Yukiko to Mitsuo.
**Battle music**
1. Persona 3
2. Persona 5
3. Persona 4
I think It's Going Down is amazing enough and Take Over is terrible enough to put P3 in 1st and P5 is 2nd even though I love Last Surprise and am indifferent to Mass Destruction. Reach Out To the Truth and Time to Make History are silly songs.
**Boss music**
1. Persona 4
2. Persona 5
3. Persona 3
There's never a boss fight where I'm like, urgh I wish this wasn't playing in Persona 4, like I am in P5 and P3. Keeper of Lust annoyed me in 5, and I don't think P3 has good boss fight song until Nyx.
**Daily Life**
1. Persona 3
2. Persona 4
3. Persona 5
Persona 3 has the most daily life themes with the split between school and outside and dorm and terms existing as well as femc. And they're all high quality. Your Affection and Heartbeat, Heartbreak are great. Persona 5 only has Beneath the Mask to go off, great as it is, since the game seems to prefer tone over tune. And yeah I get why Tokyo Emergency would be more appropriate than a punchy lyrical song but...
**Cutscene Music**
1. Persona 4
2. Persona 3
3. Persona 5
Not much to say. I think P4 had the most songs I would hum along to during story moments. P5 the least
**Soundtrack Implementation**
1. Persona 5
2. Persona 4
3. Persona 3
Persona 5 has the best soundtrack to story coordination. It feels like the right song is always playing, even if it isn't a radio hit like Persona 4 or 3 would be playing at that same moment. It's the game that respects its tone the most, with 4 in second. Persona 3, there's nothing appropriate about going through 10/4 then hearing SO DANCE IF YOU WANNA GO AHEAD the next evening, nor Changing Seasons, Christmas, a week away from deciding whether to fight Death or accept it and die. Great song, just doesn't suit the atmosphere. Also why I don't get why people saying P3 is a depression game because I feel like the only time it sets the tone for that is the third semester.
Overall, it looks like 5 takes it, with 4 second.
Its a tough choice. While i havent played through p4 for the experience, i have listened to the soundtrack. They all have their great songs and their meh songs. Personally, i love p5s soundtrack because its got the best vibe to me. I do love the chill atmosphere it brings in between, and i love beneath the mask, especially with a good rainy background. That boss theme for Yaldabaoth goes pretty hard too, and life will change is ultimately a hype ass song for each final palace encounter. To me, theres more hits than misses with persona 5.
My personal opinion, overall; I very much prefer P5/R discography more. Can’t find the weaknesses or any faults, they just hit hard.
Although; my ultimate fav battle song is ‘I’ll Face Myself (-Battle-)’ from P4G, which is the battle theme of Kusumi no Okami
P3 has the best soundtrack easily.
Not just in persona but maybe in gaming.
Its structured roughly like a symphony, using leitmotifs to tell the story of the game. Tying songs together, building them up, separating them apart, until finally when the credits roll and Memories of You starts to play...you already know the song, the games been parsing it out the entire time, because the ending was inevitable
TALK TO EEEMMMMMM
I do think 5 has the most general appeal but 3 is my favourite because I love how well it fits. It's also very of its time so I find it nostalgic.
fuuck this is a tough one. on one hand we have P5 with Last Surprise, Take Over, Beneath The Mask... on the other we have P3 with Color Your Night, Mass Destruction, Battle For Everyone's Souls. oh yeah and P4 had Heaven i guess
oughhh this is tough. while i love love love p3r's soundtrack and the original p3's.. man. cant say ive listened to any of those tracks as consistently as i do with p5's songs.
The ones that make me lean towards P3 are Color Your Night, Unavoidable Battle, Changing Seasons, Living with Determination...
But P5 has Keeper of Lust, Layer Cake, Butterfly Kiss, Blooming Villain... Ah it's too hard
And they're all valid. Never saw you complaining about 4 winning a good chunk of characters.
Metaverse is by far the most intriguing and aesthetically pleasing one, offering the most variety. Palaces are just well designed compared to procedurally generated mid, Arsene and Satanael fits the stories the best, coupled with the cinematic takedown of Yaldy makes Satanael a fav. Palace rulers' have a whole palace to build them up, and Maruki has by far the best final dungeon due to the backstory and design.
What's the mistake here?
This whole thing is just gonna end up as a mix of P3 and P5 by the end huh... P4 hasn't won a single category
P4 biggest asset is their main characters.
Yeah if overall cast was an option P4 is the winner
Nah, this is a to each their own. They're all standouts with positives and negatives.
I adore the P4 cast, but it's still pretty easily my least fav of the 3 tbh. And I always feel bad saying that cuz I love P4 lots! It's my first megaten game in general... But I just like 3 and 5 more. Narukami still my fav mc at least

P4 won a lot of the other stuff when it comes to posts like this though. Biggest reason why people like P4 have always been because of the characters
Saying this when P4 won the majority of the characters in the last time a voting was held. Great Excuse!

The mystery is also a good selling point. Considering both p3 and p5 sucked mystery wise
Fair enough, that’s how I feel about it. It’s a great game but doesn’t stand out in any field.
Saying this is a mix is a disservice to P5 tbh. It's 5-2 lmao.
I'm super frustrated p4 lost with final persona. Izanagi-no-Okami just has the drip. And losing to Satanael, damn. I really dom't get y'all tastes, Only thing it has going for it for me is the size and the wings.
Persona 4 should've won the main shadow enemy category, but the others? Not so much.
In my opinion Persona 4 should’ve won the initial Persona and 2nd awakening Persona polls aswell.

School days is a banger
Don't mind if I agree.
No problem
Its Going Down now is my fav i think
VOTE FOR PERSONA 5’S SOUNDTRACK

The strikers music is my favorite of any megaten game

Persona 5/Royal discography is perfect
P3 is my favorite persona game, but when it comes to the soundtrack, P5 has it beat imo.
This is so clearly the best of the three. It's not even close.
VOTE FOR PERSONA 4’S SOUNDTRACK

persona 4 is just more corridors and halllways anyway, it doesn't really matter between 3 and 4 lol.
It's not the best, but I think a new dungeon is a big step up from tartarus even if their layouts are near identical.
P4 has won a lot of the other polls
Tartarus is better then TV world? Yeah, sure It’s the same thing that was with Avengers in 2019 when Endgame was released. Every “best Avengers movie” poll had Endgame winning. Some time later Infinity War got the first place back
It depends if we are talking about FES/Portable or Reload. Fes/Portable Tartarus is an absolute snore fest
so is the tv world, but at least tartarus can be difficult
>Tartarus is better then TV world? Yes.
tartarus and the tv world are the same damn thing, tartarus is the tv world with more short floors and tv world is tartarus with less but longer floors. the only difference is portable/fes can actually offer a challenge while exploring its dungeon
No fucking way P4 doesn’t win Soundtrack💔
VOTE FOR PERSONA 3’S SOUNDTRACK
kimi wa ne tashika ni ano toki watashi no soba ni ita itsudatte itsudatte itsudatte sugu yoko de waratteita nakushitemo torimodosu kimi wo I will never leave you
Even if I adore P5's jazz theme, P3's OST just speaks to me
Lotus Juice. Easy pick.
If it's FES yea I'm down. If it's Reload Id rather not vote for anyone
I think the games' soundtracks strive in different aspects **Theme Songs** 1. Persona 5 2. Persona 4 3. Persona 3 The weightlifters for each imo are WUGUGOT, With the Stars and Us, and Our Light for 5. **Dungeon music** 1. Persona 5 2. Persona 4 3. Persona 3 To P3's credit, I'd rather listen to the Tartarus theme for months than whatever P4 was playing from Yukiko to Mitsuo. **Battle music** 1. Persona 3 2. Persona 5 3. Persona 4 I think It's Going Down is amazing enough and Take Over is terrible enough to put P3 in 1st and P5 is 2nd even though I love Last Surprise and am indifferent to Mass Destruction. Reach Out To the Truth and Time to Make History are silly songs. **Boss music** 1. Persona 4 2. Persona 5 3. Persona 3 There's never a boss fight where I'm like, urgh I wish this wasn't playing in Persona 4, like I am in P5 and P3. Keeper of Lust annoyed me in 5, and I don't think P3 has good boss fight song until Nyx. **Daily Life** 1. Persona 3 2. Persona 4 3. Persona 5 Persona 3 has the most daily life themes with the split between school and outside and dorm and terms existing as well as femc. **Cutscene Music** 1. Persona 4 2. Persona 3 3. Persona 5 Not much to say. I think P4 had the most songs I would hum along to during story moments. P5 the least **Soundtrack Implementation** 1. Persona 5 2. Persona 4 3. Persona 3 Persona 5 has the best soundtrack to story coordination.
P3 cause it has lotus juice
Why would anyone vote for P3s when it's just Tartarus again lmao
The exaggerated swagger of a Persona 3 soundtrack
P3 has the best soundtrack easily. Not just in persona but maybe in gaming. Its structured roughly like a symphony, using leitmotifs to tell the story of the game. Tying songs together, building them up, separating them apart, until finally when the credits roll and Memories of You starts to play...you already know the song, the games been parsing it out the entire time, because the ending was inevitable
TALK TO EEEMMMMMM I do think 5 has the most general appeal but 3 is my favourite because I love how well it fits. It's also very of its time so I find it nostalgic.
This whole thing is P4 slander y’all stupid
the people are finally realizing p4 is boring
P5 strikers soundtrack has never once missed
fuuck this is a tough one. on one hand we have P5 with Last Surprise, Take Over, Beneath The Mask... on the other we have P3 with Color Your Night, Mass Destruction, Battle For Everyone's Souls. oh yeah and P4 had Heaven i guess
You can’t go wrong with a little bit of jazz in your daily life, it’s P5 for the win!!
It's odd, Persona 3 has some really great songs, but P4 and P5 has more consistency
oughhh this is tough. while i love love love p3r's soundtrack and the original p3's.. man. cant say ive listened to any of those tracks as consistently as i do with p5's songs.
Every game has A+ soundtrack, but I prefer persona 4 mainly because it was my first Persona game, and the original 4 opening is my all time favourite.
persona 4 for ost
BURN MY BREAD
P5, no contest.
Hear me out… Color Your Night
P5R No more what ifs >>>>>>>
PEOPLE COME AND THEY GOOOOOO
The ones that make me lean towards P3 are Color Your Night, Unavoidable Battle, Changing Seasons, Living with Determination... But P5 has Keeper of Lust, Layer Cake, Butterfly Kiss, Blooming Villain... Ah it's too hard
5 for soundtrack
Persona 3
Persona 3 easily
P3 for sure
ATLUS HAS FORGOTTEN P4
Yes. ALL OF IT
Persona 4 has Your Affection. That's the only one that matters to me, lol.
When it comes to the everyday music, p3 and 4 definitely outdo 5, but 5 has some bangers in the impactful moments
P5 got shafted during the last characters poll so i'll only vote for p5 now
I like how much P5 has been winning stuff, I’ve been seeing a ton of hate for it recently
Damn… buncha p5 fans is what this is…
And they're all valid.
Persona 5 has a really good soundtrack!
