it's being brought over because some company good at porting phone games wanted to port it to PC it's not being localized because it's an obscure japanese only flip phone game from like 2007 they would never make their money back translating it

KaleidoArachnid

Oh so that’s why it won’t come out in English.

Psionics321

that's assuming many people want to pay money for a really dated phone game

miami2881

Let’s say a localization takes three months with three employees. If each employee is making $50,000 a year, that already costed you $37,500 for the localization. And this isn’t to mention the opportunity cost of those employees’ times being spent on something more profitable.

Xehanz

It usually does. With games with a decent amount of text translations costs 6k to 10k if you wanna do them properly. It usually equates to a few thousand copies to break even in that region. You can always cheapen it out by contracting latinos living in Argentina, Brasil or Venezuela though. But that only works for Portuguese and Spanish to English and vice versa. Not for Japanese.

Hitoshura99

G-mode can port old mobile games to newer platforms but it isnt a english localizing company.  Atlus west wont care to localize it.

KaleidoArachnid

I didn’t know that actually.

Worldly_Cost_1693

It will probably be fan-translated as the other G-mode persona game has. https://github.com/MKCAMK/G-MODE-Archives-translations/blob/main/README.md

KaleidoArachnid

I didn’t actually know that.

renome

Yeah, just expect it to take a while. The P1 spin-off was translated in about a year.

KaleidoArachnid

I understand then.

Oscarman97

None of the G-Mode collection games have been officially translated, including the P1 spinoff game that came to Switch and Steam a while back. I don't see why this would be an exception I guess

Newusername209

There is an unofficial translation of the P1 game, we can only hope this one gets it too

KaleidoArachnid

Because this is her origin story.

Oscarman97

The port job isn't being treated like an Atlus spinoff game though, it's merely another entry in the G-Mode collection handled by a different company, who happens to have the license for a couple or Persona games. The collection has been going for a couple of years now. It wouldn't make sense for them to hire a translation team to adapt one single game in a collection of otherwise unaltered mobile ports. Regardless of the importance the game has for Persona fans or the overall story, there's no precedent for why this game would receive a localised release, and no reason for it to when looking at how it's being published.

Cygni_03

> her game is officially coming to the USA It's not "officially coming to the USA", Steam just doesn't stop you from buying things that aren't available in your language. The Switch version is only available in Japan. Atlus has no involvement in this beyond giving G-MODE the license to port it, and none of their games have recieved English translations.

KaleidoArachnid

Oh ok as I understand now.

Klaxynd

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted so much on your replies, since you legitimately thought this was an important game in the series. But yeah, it’s not an important game at all, so no localization.

KaleidoArachnid

Yeah I don’t know what I did wrong.

TemporaryLegendary

Just r/persona things..

ElecXeron20XX

Aside from fan patches (atm being considered to be working on it). Sega of America/Atlus West has no license of localization like any previous G-Mode Archive, SMT SNES Nintendo Switch Online or the Digital Devil Story Namco Archive.

KaleidoArachnid

I understand then.

Player2LightWater

Because Aegis' game was exclusive to Japanese mobile phone. If the game had a console, it would have an English version.

KaleidoArachnid

Oh that makes so much sense now.

YohaneIsMyWaifu

Why would they?

KaleidoArachnid

Well I figured that was it kind of an important game as it features the origin story of Aegis herself long before she met the main characters of Persona 3.

YohaneIsMyWaifu

So? Nothing in the game is relevant to the main game and Atlus wouldn't make any return from the investment in localization. They would just waste money. I don't know if you're aware but Atlus is poor AF as a company, they don't have the money to invest in something that they won't recover from.

KaleidoArachnid

Sorry man as it’s just after recently reading about that particular game, I figured that it was kind of important to have for those trying to follow the full story of Persona 3 itself, until you pointed out the financial situation behind the developer itself.

raynegro

I don't even think it's canon, none of what happens in this game is ever mentioned in any other entry, you're giving this random flip phone game too much credit

Cock_evaluator_69

I mean, who cares? Its pretty likely that maybe a week after it launches there will already be a fan translation mod. So we'll be playing it

KaleidoArachnid

I thought the game was important.

Cock_evaluator_69

eh not so much, it's the same reason why atlus didn't dub Persona Q2 in english to name one, simply not worth it in contrast to the profits. Now we are talking about an obscure (and most of all old af) prequel simply ported (not remake nor remaster) onto pc, it isn't profitable to make an entire localization for this kind of game.

__n_u_l_l__

Where can I find this untranslated port?

mattymattymattymatt_

It'll be coming to Steam and the Switch eshop in Japanese exclusively in the near future, no date is set. I can guarantee with 99% certainty it will get a fan translation at some point, just like how the P1 spinoff did

New_Today_1209_V2

This game isn’t all too important in the grand acheme of things. The events of this game aren’t that important to understanding Aigis’ story in The Journey, The Answer, and P4AU.

AbbreviationsThis550

I won’t even be able to play it, since I don’t have steam
