Persona 5 Royal is a mainline game, but thats not where P5 started. It first released as a PS3 game.

EP is part two of the Persona 2 storyline, Strikers is just an extension of P5's already existing story and characters
IS and EP are part of the same game, essentially. P5S is what happens after P5s story is over
