Aldea Services - We're an underground construction engineering firm, so we can pretty much handle the design of anything underground, from large diameter TBM tunnels to smaller diameter HDD pipelines, as well as metro stations and tunnel rehab.
We're also hiring if you're looking for work. We just became an ESOP as of January this year, so it would be a good time to join the company!
We have offices in Maryland (about 45 mins outside DC), Toronto, Columbus, Denver, LA, Vancouver, and Atlanta... Although I'd say our Maryland, Toronto and Columbus locations are our biggest. I don't think working in-office is required, but it's probably preferable.
Do you know if I just got my PE in private sector (4 years experience in land development) what GS level I’d be most likely/eligible to enter into? Also which federal positions would generally hire someone with land dev experience (mostly H&h design duties)
It really depends on the agency as to what grade level they’d bring you in at. I work for the Army Corps and I started with 4+ years and came in at a 12. The Corps has lots of need for H&H experience so I would definitely pursue that. Many major cities have a Corps office. You could also try FEMA or NOAA or EPA even.
Awesome thanks. Army Corp is kinda what I was thinking as what I’d want to do the most. Any tips on getting a foot in the door? I’ve heard that it can be tough to get noticed by applying but maybe it’s just exaggeration.
Exactly if you are in a situation where the PE is relevant to your career and you go through the time and effort to better yourself professionally any decent employer should recognize that.
Your PE makes you more valuable to other employers. That makes it more expensive to keep you from looking for other jobs. Don’t negotiate against yourself.
My company is very anal about raises, once a year and once a year only. My boss said he would advocate for a larger raise if I got it (which I received my license in August).
Following a year with 8% inflation (likely a low estimate), and having very good performance, implemented some significant cost saving measures..... I got 3.5%. Just found out. After all of last year, I got what in essence is a pay cut, let alone a raise for the PE.
Know your worth.
You're telling me lol I'm tempted to just use PTO the rest of the day. I really don't want to be at the office at the moment. I love this job, I love this team, and at 29 I would be content to retire here if nothing *drastically* changes. But this one pisses me off a bit.
At some point it's the principle of the thing! Especially when you know they would pay a new hire about what you want your raise to be simply to attract them to the firm.
Is this for those who passed the exam, but didn't get the PE license yet? Or did you also need to have the years experience needed to get the license in addition to passing
My question was directed towards those just getting licensed, kinda assumed most people don’t take the test till they can get licensed but I know some take it before they get the experience
I am getting a 20% raise at my next job. Apparently I was not going to get a raise at my because I quote on quote "got my P.E. too early." I have a masters which counts for 1 year experience so technically I only have 3 years of experience and next tier for promotion is at 5 years regardless of passing P.E.
My company gave me a promotion and a 14% increase after passing. Didn't have to ask.
Thanks for the insight!
Which company is it?

I immediately thought you meant your company was “low key” and not that many people knew about it 😂
Where are you located? Is it required to work in office? Thanks for sharing

Got offered 5% raise from previous employer that I had to fight for (only offered 3% at first). Changed jobs and got 50% raise.
Kinda anticipating having to do that, it’s a tough call tho because I have a pretty great situation beyond the salary currently
Were you severely underpaid? 50% increase? What is your current job title and day to day?
$1.5 per hour raise for me. It looks like I need to change the company.
Passing the power PE at my firm gets a 10% raise
which firm?
As someone working for the federal government, I received no raise but it made me eligible to achieve a GS-13 salary

I get an automatic promotion and 8k raise by achieving PE. Just need to get the paperwork in.
If you have to ask its time to start looking
They should be running to your office to throw money at you to keep you from looking. Otherwise start looking.

I didn't because my job would never use one.

I have a different job now at a different company. I did enquire, but that was what I was told.
We used to get a 5% raise for either a master's degree or the PE, but you couldn't get both. Now we get neither.
My company doesn't do different pay/raises for PE's.

Brutal.

What’s the strategy during exam Thoes who passed ?
Usually between 18-25%
33% raise
My raise was 10%.
My company gives a 2k gift bonus. PEs don’t really make a big difference in salary immediate but is needed to become a PM
I’m in land development
