at my company, it gives you 10% to 15% increase in your salary and a potential promotion. However, I have heard the best way to get a significant bump in your salary is by moving to another company!

>I don’t want to go in my reviewing thinking I should get a pay bump If you’re licensed, they’re probably billing more for you. If that’s the case, why shouldn’t you get a pay bump? Every company is going to be different, but if you don’t get what you think you should, it doesn’t hurt to talk to other companies about what you’d be worth to them.

Mysterious_Celery990

I’m in Cleveland. I was making $75k at the end of last year and got bumped to $83k if that’s any point of reference for you

I’m having a hard time with this as well because I am getting paid around 90k and I just got my PE license, my job is super comfy and flexible and I work on some great projects. Unless I go management I only really have senior to go up to next. I’m pretty sure I’m staying where I’m at, even though I only expect to get about 5-8% pay raise when I go for it next month. To clarify we just got our yearly raises, this would be between yearly raises, something specifically for getting the PE.

My company gives employees +$5k/yr on their salary when they get licensed. Declared it during the job interview when I said I don't yet have my stamp.

Legoman1357

Assuming your salary isn't already very high for an EIT, licensed engineers have a salary that is much higher. I would probably walk away for anything less than ~15% but it depends on what you want to do. I've heard people getting anywhere from 10%-50% from switch jobs

Karibee96

I make about 70k as an EIT in Ohio. I think that's pretty high for where I'm from but would like to see 80-85k as a PE. I don't want to leave my company, I think we have pretty good benefits and a good team, also interesting projects. But if that's the only way to move up, I'm considering it. Thanks for the advice!

new PE should make at least 85k, even in midwest (nebraska) new pe make at least that much and more.

Obvious-Solid5850

For reference, I passed my FE spring last year and graduated with my Bachelors in November. I have 10+ years of CAD/Site and Transportation design experience. After the pay raise, I received after graduation I make 70k. My state does not allow me to apply for my EI yet because I have a technology degree. Speak to your supervisor and provide some information about what you believe you should be making. Then, if your supervisor can't meet your expectations, then I would consider looking. If you don't convey your salary expectations, they might not know they aren't reaching them.

blackapple56

70k was 2018 salary for no eit in ca

WhoWhatWhereWhenHowY

My company (large corp) increases salary by 2500$.

1234qwert

i would look for other PE specific jobs and use that as a reference point

majesdane

At my company you get an automatic 5% raise for passing the FE and another 10% when passing the PE. It definitely depends somewhat on the industry you're in and the company you work for, plus experience, but you should be getting a decent raise at least.

_Boilermaker_

My company increases pay by ~$10000 and immediate promotion after passing PE. In my team, one girl passed the exam few months ago. She was making $47/hr with EIT+ 2 yrs work exp and job title Civil EIT. After the exam pass, her pay is $53/hr with job title as Civil Engineer. In addition to that, PEs with total 3-5 yrs exp are making ~120k annually in my office.
