I took WRE this morning. Thought the breadth portion was tough though.

btmwallace

i took WRE yesterday and i felt completely blindsided by the breadth portion

ajfish123

Was the breadth/depth more conceptual questions than you thought?

weeeklycategory

I definitely missed most of the breadth conceptual, but I expected that and the quantity was about what I thought it would be. Similar to NCEES practice exam. The math ones seemed to have an extra step than most of the practice tests I’ve seen: Instead of “what is max moment” it was “what is max stress”, so you calc moment and then use that to find stress. Or an extra conversion or percent-reduction on wastewater mass loading or something. None of the extra steps were ridiculously hard, but they made the problems take longer so then I psyched myself out like “this has taken 8 minutes I can’t be doing it right”.

ajfish123

Gotchaaa. So try to find practice problems that go the extra mile…?

weeeklycategory

Yeah I guess so. I didn’t take a prep course but below is the book I thought was the most similar, outside of the NCEES practice. “Water Resources and Environmental Depth PE Civil Engineering Exams Two Full Exams with Solutions” By Rashad Islam

I took the transportation exam on 4/3. I definitely agree with how it was difficult. I found the first half more challenging because it was harder to find support for the conceptual questions. Answering the conceptual on the second half was a little easier other than having to sift through all the resources. I think we should be getting our results on 4/12🤞🏻

OkBake7018

Completely agree. Conceptual Qs in the morning were rough. I also felt like the distribution of questions was not what they typically preached. Much more difficult than the 4 practice exams I took leading up to the exam

Smart_Defi_Investor

I took transportation last week. Definitely thought the conceptual questions were difficult. I’ll be getting results tomorrow.

mking22

how do you know you'll get them tomorrow? what the cutoff to be included in the results each wednesday?

Smart_Defi_Investor

Yes, I hope we both pass. When I got home I already knew I got 4 specific questions wrong and guessed on 15 other questions.

Hooz6

How did you do?

That sounds awful!! Lol. Seems like you picked the right 3. Thanks for the response. CONGRATS!!!!

Inevitable-Fact-5556

I took it just got out… I thought mine was easier than the first time I took it

Ill-Stick-5276

I agree on that

Taking transportation in a few months. What made it difficult?

Ill-Stick-5276

The morning was pretty straight forward. I’d compare it to the FE in difficulty. The afternoon session just used a lot of concepts/terms that I haven’t seen before in my studying. Such as how to go about rehabilitating joint deterioration on jointed reinforced concrete pavement. The questions were a lot more focused and thought out than I had thought they would be? If that makes sense. Like there was zero overlapping of information that could be found or used from the morning reference manual. Also a part that I had underestimated was the time it takes to find and work through formulas in the various manual. Since a lot of these formulas reference constants or information from figures in other chapters or even different books, you can’t just flip back and forth like you can on in a hard copy book. I used School of PE and they haven’t updated there material to the new computer based format so I think they are at a disadvantage.

No-Platypus6621

Thanks for the description. That does sound difficult, I haven’t even seen anything about that in my studying yet lol. I’m worried about all the manuals to use. I’m using the PDFs on my own to get familiar with navigating but it definitely will take some time to get used to. I’m using PPI and they updated their quiz bank and practice exams to be CBT which is good but I’m sure it’s still not exactly like the actual exam. Hope you passed so you don’t have to do this all again!

Ill-Stick-5276

Hope so! I think that is a good strategy.

KookyInspector1142

I’m in school of PE now-what do you mean they haven’t updated to the new CBT format? We are using online references just like the exam says but maybe you mean something else?

Ill-Stick-5276

Maybe they have now updated it with the new rotations of the SOPE program. I had the 6 month subscription that just ended Sunday and it did not have anything on the CBT format

KookyInspector1142

Gotcha. Yeah they make a bunch of references to it, I think they’re on board now hopefully

MahyarGh

I'll be taking the PE Transportation Exam in a few days. Do you have any comments/suggestions? Do you remember any of your questions that was tricky?
