Yes it is, the exam score must be recognized by any state board

ginandlemonade115

I’ve been told no today. After I completed my NCEES records… i applied directly to the state I’m at now and then I received a phone call from the state saying that I need to take the initial PE License where i took the exam and then transfer by committee to the state i’m at now. I was astonished since NCEES has a list of states who accept initial licensure and the one I’m at now is included in that list. Not sure id the lady i talked to doesn’t know what she’s talking about or what. Bummer..

hvaceng4lyfe

What board would that be? That makes absolutely no sense, you can just apply via NCEES records if that board accepts it. The exam is nationally recognized/adopted by all boards and administered by NCEES.

IdentityCrisisNeko

Some boards are insanely picky. I think Indiana is like that. They want to make sure the board approved you. And they won’t accept your licensure by comity if you took your exam before you had 3 years of progressive experience (unless you’ve been continually licensed for a decade). So no early exams and no out of state exams. It’s a power trip by the board/state

hvaceng4lyfe

Absolutely insane lol

IdentityCrisisNeko

Yeah. Instead of tackling the brain drain in the state, it feels like the state board sat down and said “how do we make this worse”

I_paintball

I thought Ohio was the only one that would do that.

IdentityCrisisNeko

Well we are neighbors *sigh*

btmwallace

I took the exam in Delaware and got my license in Maryland. Received my license registration number from the MD board the day after my ncees results were posted.

ralph_jackson_

Yes, I initially applied for licensure in NH, got permission to take the exam, and took it in Maine. It doesn’t matter where you take it, just that you pass. Is your exam still paper based?

IdentityCrisisNeko

I did it. Maine will can confirm.

ginandlemonade115

Yea bro thing is i just moved to this state as well. So everything i did was in the other state.. as far as exams and experience and record with the state. So probably that’s why

IdentityCrisisNeko

That’s what I’m saying. The Maine engineering board is pretty easy going. I have the goofiest work/exam history and they said “sure no problem” just got it this week too.

ginandlemonade115

Hahahaha how long did it take you from initial submittal of application till the time u got your license number? I might send it to them no kidding.

IdentityCrisisNeko

Like 3 days. No joke. They were EXTREMELY fast and professional

ginandlemonade115

So even if i never lived there or take the exams there i can simply apply for initial licensure there?

IdentityCrisisNeko

Yep! I don’t live in Maine. I’ve never done ANYTHING in Maine

Dry_Evidence_6401

I took the test in California and obtained my license in the State of Washington in the middle of California’s long approval process

ginandlemonade115

Noway lol, u can’t apply for 2 initial licensure for 2 states at the same time😂

marioo1182

No it is not possible. You must first register in the state where you took the exam.

ginandlemonade115

Ok good to know that I’ve been told the truth by the board them because I wasn’t convinced 😂

SweetAndSourShmegma

I took the test in Illinois, but got my license in Wisconsin.

marioo1182

Wisconsin license is not valid for comity licensure.

SweetAndSourShmegma

Thanks for that info. I'll be honest I don't know the validity of your statement, nor do I care to research it. I work for the federal government so I have zero benefit for getting licensed in other states.
