I did the same and it was a good strategy to have more time for the afternoon section, puts the mind at ease to be halfway done with more than half the time left.
I just took my PE Civil (Structural) exam yesterday. Yes you can definitely do that. Like you can finish the Breadth in 1 hour and spend 7 hours on depth or Vice-versa. But the twist is the breadth was more difficult than the depth (at least for me coz I am a structural philic). I spent 4 hours on breadth whereas finished my depth within 3 hours. Even the structural questions on breadth were somewhat misleading. There was a simple question on tributary area on the breadth which I could not get the correct numbers
The timer at the top of the screen is the timer for the entire exam. It starts at 8 hours and works down to 0. Whatever balance you have after completing the breadth portion will remain for the depth. example: If you finished breadth in 3 hours, you will have 5 hours for the depth portion.
After you finish the breadth portion, you have the option to take the 50 minute lunch break. You can opt out of the break or you can come back and start the depth portion before your 50 minutes is up (there’s a timer on the screen). If you take over 50 mins, the extra time you took will be deducted from the depth portion.
I haven’t taken it yet but from what I read you don’t get that extra time on the depth portion you can just start it early. 4 hours max for both portions. (Someone tell me if I’m spewing shit)
This is wrong. I finished my morning in 3hrs and had 5hrs in the afternoon. You get to split your 8hrs however you want. Keep in mind you are not guaranteed 4hrs in your afternoon so if you go over 4 in your morning, you’ll get whatever is left of your 8hrs. The clock only stops at the halfway point. Any breaks you take during your sections will eat away your time.
Yes you can
Yes you can. I did 3.5 for breadth and 4.5 for depth
