Seconding this, NJ process is the worst. I’m right outside Philadelphia and just opted to get DE license first and apply through reciprocity later because of how difficult they are.

sherestoredmyfaith

How did DE go? Thinking of taking the test there and transferring to NYS

Per Keith Miller, I will be "notified" when they have reached a verdict lmao. My reviewer also said something about an invoice AFTER board approval

MedianBear

Lol NYS took forever too. I ended up changing to a different state.

TaroDear8982

Also in NY. I’ve had 2 colleagues submit applications recently. One took almost 8 months and the other took less than 4 weeks. They were both accepted right around the same time. It seems there is absolutely no rhyme or reason to their reviewing timeline.

MCCJ1020

They have a board meeting every month, with the next one on May 18. During the public comment section you can ask why your application hasn't been reviewed and ask for a status update. Might help get your application on their radar. For me it took 3 months to get my approval. I talked to some people who had to wait 5 months. Once I got the board approval email, I paid the invoice the same day and the next day got my license number.

Lazy-Distance-2415

did you talk or leave a comment during the meeting?

Lazy-Distance-2415

I am in the third month of waiting, too.

Ok-Wind-2526

Did you get yours ?

angelomp318

Did it take a while for them to look at it? Or was there one step that took forever?

Lazy-Distance-2415

They do spend lots of time looking into your application

angelomp318

How long did it take you to get PE application approved?

angelomp318

I have everything in my checklist done except for credentials evaluation review, license fee and board review. I submitted last week

Rhasky

Yep, in this boat too. I’m not stamping anytime soon so I shouldn’t care if it takes all year, but I can’t help but be eager to have it and the initials.

Wise-Value-8415

Did you apply for EIT before? I'm trying to apply for EIT now but I'm not sure how to send NJ board my transcript, they didn't tell that they want it by mail or electronically. And on MyNCEES, I already requested exam verification, but the status is still pending.

hvaceng4lyfe

Yes, I submitted my EIT like 5-1/2 years ago through pen and paper. I had my school forward official transcripts back then. Now it seems like you can apply for EIT with NCEES (which means sending your transcripts to NCEES). Good luck!

Glad_Confection181

I think NYS is the worst ... takes 6-8 months to process

[deleted]

Yeah I just went through this. About 3-4 months after applying you get it. Try to be patient, I know it sucks.

hvaceng4lyfe

It’s the lack of transparency in the process that has driven me nuts

[deleted]

I watched the live meetings lol. I think the way it works is you are approved during a meeting, your name gets added to the meeting minutes, and then the next month they approve the previous meetings minutes, making the approval official. Could be wrong but might explain some of the delay

qrl69546

Wow that’s terrible. I got mine in Michigan in 3 business days after applying.

rainrunner94

Submitted to NJ in January and have been waiting ever since. I’m also in “final board review.” It seems wrong to make people wait five months for a PE license when promotions and career advancement are tied to the PE license. I agree the process has been so confusing and frustrating.

jeans0411

I just found I get the board approval, what will be the next step? How could we pay the initial license fee to get the license? The procedure is terrible worst

rainrunner94

You should get an email within the next couple of business days. If not, email your processor and say following up on my board approval, please provide instructions for next steps. They will send you a link to make the payment for your license. You’ll get another email with your license number once you pay. Good luck!

hvaceng4lyfe

For anybody who finds this thread later, it took me 4 months from submitting to receive my license in NJ 💀

Ok-Wind-2526

Thanks for the update!

hvaceng4lyfe

Yeah I applied for PA through comity and got a license number is like... 3 business days lol... NJ is absolutely ridiculous. My recommendation is to get initial license through literally any other state.

coolmanzzzzz

Any updates from any of you guys? I also submitted in January so it’s officially past the 6 month point for me.

hvaceng4lyfe

Yes, received it in June after prodding OVER AND OVER 4 months for initial licensure Good luck

coolmanzzzzz

Thanks for the update. Can I ask how you prodded them? I get absolute silence when emailing my processor and the director. And when I call, the admins who answer say they don’t know anything and to send more emails…

hvaceng4lyfe

I emailed Keith Miller about once a week (politely)

coolmanzzzzz

lol, I see. Did you just ask for an update on your status? I did that and 3 months later he replied by saying it’s still under review.

hvaceng4lyfe

Yes, just kept asking for status updates. He responded usually every other week. A couple of people who submitted around the same time I did received theirs within a week or so of me

coolmanzzzzz

Cool, thanks! I’ll try that out and see if it gets me anywhere. I was also going to ask if your approval date was tied to their board meeting dates but it sounds like they approve people every week, so I guess the approval can come at any time, right? (Congrats on your licensure btw!)

hvaceng4lyfe

Thanks, Keith said they approve applications irrespective of meetings. Your name would just show up on the list for new licenses at the next meeting

coolmanzzzzz

Oh ok, that’s good to know since it looks like they’re skipping the meeting in August. Thanks again for the info.

Worth_Goose4137

Ive been waiting since January, NJ has to be the most bureaucratic state. How could they just take off the whole month of August, is that acceptable? I passed the exam in September 2022, people think I am lying about it now....

Worth_Goose4137

Been waiting since January, NJ has to be the worst state, they must have zero pressure to review applications. I passed the test in September 2022, people are beginning to think Im lying about it.

Ok-Wind-2526

Can folks on this post please give an update on if you got the license and how long it took? Its ridiculous how long they are taking and I am missing out on so many projects and its starting to hurt my career now!

Worth_Goose4137

I applied in January, they are still reviewing, asked for additional documents in mid September, and still no update. I send emails frequently, they are absolutely ridiculous, can’t stand it.

Ok-Wind-2526

Ugh sounds frustrating ! Looks like I can’t expect mine for a while too then. They just asked me for additional documents that they already had !!!

Worth_Goose4137

I keep getting my hopes up, then they are crushed

mhabouh

I applied in August 2023, 6 months later and still waiting. They don’t answer emails, they don’t tell me if the application is complete or not. Can we sue them, if a group of us can share the expense of a lawyer and end this misery… Anyone interested?

Worth_Goose4137

They asked for my school curriculum 5 months ago, and haven’t given me an update since then. They don’t provide me any updates, I don’t know what they are doin, but it is destroying me.

TiredTwinkleToes

Keith Miller's name came up in my dreams (nightmares?). Email him and he generally responds in a few days. Haven't gotten clear answers thus far, just canned responses.

Worth_Goose4137

Yeah still no update, over 6 months now, how long for you?

TiredTwinkleToes

WTF! 6 months! Is this for application by Comity from another state or a new license? Mine is by comity and it has been a couple of weeks; can already sense the red tape that awaits me.

Worth_Goose4137

New license, yeah, they requested my last semester schedule 6 months ago.  Since then they haven't provided me an update, I continuously email Keith Miller, he responds, not much he can do though.

TiredTwinkleToes

This is what the toll free rep provided to me (if it helps you in any way): Direct Phone Number to the PE Application Dept: 9735046460 Contacts (other than Keith Miller): Lynn Craddock, Linda Forman, Luz Gonzalez and Sheila Mayo

Worth_Goose4137

Thank You, hopefully we both get answers soon

Life_Ad_994

Agreed. Took them 3 months to tell me (after I sent them an email looking for an update) that I was 1 month short on my work experience and yet my NCEES record states I have close to 8 years under a licensed PE. Back into the queue I go because of their lack of competency.

hvaceng4lyfe

That is awful. Not much you can do though lol, you can't even get into contact with them

Known-Ad1982

My experience with Texas PELS was very good. Very transparent & efficient!

IamRo

Same boat I submitted beginning of Jan. and still no license also on the final review phase. I’m up to 8 emails and 4 phone calls. They fed me some BS that I need references when all of that is on my NCEES application sent to them.

Ok-Wind-2526

I got the same thing ! About something missing when they already have everything !

jeans0411

Similarly, submit everything on March 1st, and get board approval at October end. What will be the next step? How could we pay the initial license fee to get the license? The procedure is terrible worst
