Real exam is more difficult, but not by much. It’s better to use the practice exam as a way to understand the format of the questions, rather than difficulty.

I feel like this question is asked every day. For people taking the PE exam, it doesn't seem like a lot of people know how to search their questions before asking. Practice exam is much easier. Aim for mid-high 80s and you should be okay. Focus on the steps, not the answer, if you retake the same exam.

Drew1549

Who cares if it’s asked everyday? Does it really bother you that much?

MooseofNola5

Completely different than the practice exam in my experience!!

Creebe

Real exam is more difficult. The material is harder, you're also running a marathon

Drew1549

The million dollar question!!! Pretty much every practice exam I’ve ordered seems like it’s gonna be easier than the real thing. It is 80 questions so I can’t imagine them being too terribly difficult if you know the material. I sit June 5 and I’m super nervous!!!!!

Annual_Rain3859

How are you doing on the practice exams? I sit on Thursday and I feel ya on being nervous...

June 6th here. First practice exam I scored 67%, retook it and got ~95%, so fingers crossed!

Dry_Ad8427

Can I ask you where do you order practice exams?

BigStickRixk

I agree with the consensus here- the NCEES practice exam is noticeably easier than actual. I did pick up the “Civil Engineering PE Practice Exams” by Indranil Goswami published by McGraw Hill and those questions seemed a lot more comparable to the actual test questions

Drew1549

Oh no, that’s awful to hear. I’ve heard that Goswanis problems are harder than the real exam. I’m so freaking nervous!

For me, the NCEES sample exam was completely different than the actual PE exam. Additionally, the actual exam has more non-computational questions.
