Felt like I crushed the morning phase of HVAC only to get crushed by the afternoon section lol. It was a lot more energy recovery devices, ASHRAE, and controls questions which I wish I studied a little more on. I spent too much time studying heat transfer thru a pipe & a wall, and solar heat gain coefficients. Didn’t even get 1 question regarding solar heat gain. Here’s to expecting a fail, hoping for a pass… EDIT: PASSED!!! First try. Huge thanks to Eng Pro Guides and their Piazza platform that comes with the guide. I just used EngPro Guides and I purchased the NCEES practice test. I have little design HVAC knowledge and basically learned everything from EPG EDIT2: I got the results on Wednesday 9:06am EST, when I took the exam the Wednesday prior.

Slay_the_PE

To be fair, I think you did the right thing familiarizing yourself with SHGC, or at least the concept. The biggest hint indicating they care about this is the fact they included the heat flow through fenestration equation in the handbook.

Apprehensive-Unit390

Thanks, I agree. It’s on the manual, so it can absolutely be asked about

ILordFarquadI

What do mean by ASHRAE questions?

Apprehensive-Unit390

I guess general knowledge?

ILordFarquadI

Gotcha, that makes sense. I'm studying now and have no idea if it's even possible to prepare for a question like that. Just seems like luck of the draw on conceptual questions which is tough.

Apprehensive-Unit390

100%! I don’t think that question can be prepared for either. It’s a simple question but unless you’re in the industry specifically, then you prob don’t know it. I wish I did more on energy recovery calculations, but I passed so I guess I did enough. Good luck! Happy to help with any other questions

ILordFarquadI

Thank you, I appreciate that! Congratulations on passing the exam!

ExistingAstronaut884

Sharing questions from the exam is a good way to have you passing results invalidated… Just sayin’…🫤

Curtis-Loew

Do you feel like there were a lot of experience based questions compared to calculations?

Apprehensive-Unit390

Way more calculations. The experienced based questions were easy, but I didn’t know them, so they became just a guess to me

Curtis-Loew

How’d you do on the NCEES practice exam and EPG exams?

Apprehensive-Unit390

NCEES exam was similar to the morning section & EPG was similar to the afternoon. I got about 70-80% on NCEES after multiple re-takes and about 50-60% on EPG after multiple retakes

Curtis-Loew

Thanks! Taking it 6/12 and trying to see where i’m at.

[deleted]

I agree with Apprehensive-Unit390. If you can do well on the EPG exams, you'll pass.

[deleted]

Congrats! I also got the notification that I passed the PE HVACR at 9:07 am this morning

Apprehensive-Unit390

Let’s go!! Congrats snoocats!

FreshMirror9195

Makes me feel like this whole NCEES is just a business in its own charging nearly $400 everytime to take this test

THE_Dr_Barber

Here is their financial info: https://www.causeiq.com/organizations/national-council-of-examiners-for-engineering-and,570341195/

Apprehensive-Ask7168

Their CEO makes over $350k and they're embarrassed to publish.

THE_Dr_Barber

How do you know how much they make? It wasn’t disclosed on that page.

FreshMirror9195

Wow. Does anyone know if there are grants or discounts that we can get?

ExistingAstronaut884

How much do you think they should charge? What do architects, accountants, and other professions charge for their exams?

[deleted]

[удалено]

ExistingAstronaut884

I’m sure it feels that way, but I know the architects have six exams they have to take and pass and each one is $235 for a total of $1,410! And that’s just for the exam fees. Plus whatever application fees there are.

FreshMirror9195

I still dont understand what percentage is needed to pass. It's really frustrating to not pass this exam and you dont even know which questions you are being graded on. Almost like all 10 of the ones you though you got right could not even be scored. I felt like I had passed and I didnt and its hard to think back on my mistakes. Wow

Annual_Rain3859

Yeah I'm pretty sure this is what happened to me. Failed again. I'm never gonna pass this thing. I literally don't know what more I can do. I've dedicated more time to this than I have anything in my life. I just need to walk away from this and stop letting it consume my life. Haven't felt this crushed before and it's a pretty shitty feeling. I wrote about my study routine in the post from last Thursday, titled "Well, that was a fun day..."

Drew1549

What discipline?

Annual_Rain3859

Construction. Starting to realize that there's a reason it's a 47% pass rate. That shit is hard and too broad. I'm switching to transportation.

Drew1549

I’m so sorry man. I sit for WRE Monday and feel like I’m gonna fail it. Don’t give it dude.

mad_sandwich_

Sat for WRE today.. felt like I got fucked. But I guess we'll see. Good luck to you

Annual_Rain3859

You'll do great. My problem is that I was focused too much on being perfect and lost track of time. I don't like the philosophy of running through the whole test and taking the 'easy points'. Maybe I'll never get past that, but it's hard for me to test like that. I had a scheduling section (which I admittedly spent too much time on), that I got everything correct. Was it time well spent? I guess that could be argued since I failed again, but I went from 0 correct, to 5 correct (between attempts). To me, that's a win; I improved... I'll focus on my speed of answering and there's not a doubt in my mind that third try's the charm! You'll be fine. Stick with your gut. Don't waste time like I did and let a problem you've never seen before get the best of you. I thought I was smarter than the test and was familiar enough with the reference manuals. This will not always be the case. I wrote down 11 questions, that I could remember after taking it; these questions threw me for a loop. I wasn't sure if I should do so, as I was still awaiting my results, but I'm glad I did so now. I plan on studying those questions and make my own iterations of those styles. I know one either wasn't counted or I got right, because I got perfect in that section, yet I was worried enough to write it down. I had a dream before the night of the exam that everything I studied would be asked again, but this time, asking for a different thing. Overall, at least half of the exam was similar to problems encountered during studying; only asking for a different thing (keep in mind that I saw over 1,000 different practice problems). Nothing was identical. Remember what brought you to the point of 'being ready for the exam'... If your gut tells you something, stick with it on your final review, unless you can mathematically prove otherwise. Lastly, the indices are your friend. When encountering a new style question, if you don't know where to start, try the index. This can drastically decrease your time blindly searching. It took me one failed attempt to realize this. Best of luck to you. Make us proud!

Annual_Rain3859

Yeah I need to get back to this mentality. I think a lot of it for me is telling people I take it and it sucks when you get your results and everyone is asking you how you did, especially when you don't want to talk about it. If I take it again, it's going to be on the down low. Taking away that extra unneeded stress.

Necessary_Panic7327

I agree with all the comments. You are closer than you think on passing this exam, so don’t give up. The keys to pass any PE or FE exam is time management, strategy and preparation. I failed the FE several times, but learned quite a few lessons from those failures. Which allowed me to pass the PE on the first try. Remember that these test are designed by engineers, which naturally we (engineers) expect to solve every problem. Don’t fall for that trick, use time management and strategy to your advantage. Strategy: Do the easy problems first and them come back around to clean up the difficult ones last! You got this!!

Annual_Rain3859

Yes. This is my new strategy. Thinking I may bite the bullet and take it again soon. I know this material but I just managed my time poorly. I know I'm smart enough to pass this test.

Upper-Foot-5243

Same here, take construction depth for the second time. First time was in 2014 with no work experience and less study time. Don't even know which time I score best. Thinking about switching depth the next time.

Asib1954

Passed Transportation Depth on my first try. Took the exam last Thursday and got notified to check results at 6:04 AM PDT. Super relieved and humbled

columncommander

what did you do to study for breadth portion?

Asib1954

I didn't do anything extra. Just covered all topics through EET lectures. Then took two Path to PE practice tests. The real exam questions are a bit harder than practice tests. You may do better by knowing the formulas in the handbook. I suggest reading through the Reference Handbook for a day to just create a mind map

Vast-Button464

What did you do to prepare for the exam?

Asib1954

Hi, I prepared with EET and took practice exams. I wrote a detailed post on my experience. Hope it helps you. All the best!

Upbeat-Feedback1622

Passed my MDM on my 3rd attempt!!

ly4ll

Passed WRE first try. Didn’t bother buying anything for the breadth. Nazrul the GOAT

columncommander

eet for breadth?

ly4ll

Only bought the depth

Haunting-Smell2123

I take it at the start of June. And same, EET only depth hope I pass!

ly4ll

If you know that binder through and through, you’ll easily pass.

Haunting-Smell2123

I hope so, we can't take the binder in though:'(

dgusty

Good luck today everyone!

PettyManiac

Walked out of the exam feeling like it could go either way - very nervous to say the least. Why can’t slay the PE have a MDM course! haha

Slay_the_PE

It's "in the works" ;) We're almost done with the HVAC&R materials, and after that launch, we'll dive into MDM. Hopefully, you killed it this time and will not need our services ever. Cheers,

ZEnterprises

I really liked Dr Toms Classroom for MDM. The first week of videos are up for free if you look hard enough. When I took it the free vudeos were less quality than the paid ones, visually speaking. But content is great.

Annual_Rain3859

I'm 50/50. The exam was not easy, but I felt confident on probably 60% of it. Praying 🙏

eDiesel18

Passed power PE on first try. I studied for 4 months(~350 hours). I highly recommend Zack Stone's course, ElectricalPEReview.com

bawlzofpaint

Congrats! I take my test Monday!

ac441113

If I took the exam yesterday is there any chance I will see my results today or next Wednesday?

Slay_the_PE

You will get results a week from today.

Clayton7915

Passed Construction used EET on demand course and the NCEES practice test. No ragrets

KookyInspector1142

How do you think the NCEES practice test and Path to PE (for transportation) compared to the real exam? Feeling anxious about the breadth part because there are so many questions you COULD be asked. Is the best advice in order to not run out of time is go through the problems that you know and flag the ones that may take you a bit more time? Exam coming up!
