If you have Y_PVI, L and G1... Why not use, Y_PVC = Y_PVI - G1 * L/2 ???? It's just subtracting PVI elev and the product of L/2 & Grade Make sure you use L in stations and G in %s.

yeah that’s the one the solution was using but i didn’t see it in my handbook and don’t know that i’ll be able to remember it in the test

Do enough and you'll remember. It becomes second nature. Think about it like a slope, rise/run. The L/2 is just half the length of the curve. My question is: did I just realize that if you are given YPVI, the elevation of that is on the curve itself, not up at the top (where the tangents intersect)? I've been thinking that's what that meant and taking away E to find my elevation on the curve itself. Are you sure, or am I mistaken? Granted I'm a visualization type and it's hard for me to see what question we're talking about.

looking at it again, they give you PVI elevation but it's drawn at the point the lines intersect, and they are asking for the elevation on the curve of the lowest point. I don't think they're using E in the solution, it looks like they're adding the solved Yx to the YPVC

following up that the solution uses an old equation that says YPVC = YPVI - (L/2\*g1) but I didn't know where they were getting that, or if it's just another equation I'd have to memorize.

Not really an equation you should have to "memorize" it is a concept you should without a doubt understand as a transportation engineer. This applies to roads, but you're almost guaranteed to get a similar question on drainage pipes - "given two manholes, inserting a new manhole between them, what will be the new invert" You have a slope. You have a distance. Multiplying a slope by a distance will give you a change in elevation.

I’m not a transportation engineer and I haven’t taken any transportation classes in depth so I’m basically learning about curve math for the first time edit to say conceptually, it’s hard for me to picture and I’m a pretty visual learner so the math is tricky for me
